The headlamp on the driver's side went out while driving home. i replaced it with a new one. it would not work. i got a second bulb and tried to replace the light again. still would not work. i took the truck to three different repair shops and none of them could fix it. i was told it might be the fuse box.

Airbags recall when to have it checki and the dash board broke apart like peanut brittle. theay said they could not replace the dash board. *bf the consumer stated while performing the airbag recall the dashboard broke apart. the dealer would not repair the dashboard. also the cargo light caught fire and damaged the headliner.*js

Just caught fire burned up common problem lots of fires

Tipm/fcm failure, intermittent turn signals/hazard lights. turn on left turn signal right signal comes on, other times no signals at all. problem occures wether in park, driving, with engine off. extremely common issue that has not been addressed with replacements costing over $400.

Speedometer not working, abs and broke lights not working. found a forum with hundreds of others having this same issue.

Takata recall. i have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 quad cab. i am having issue finding mopar-oem bell crank part# 53032456 ae. if you go to the dealer in elk grove ca, they are on back order 270. or on the morpar website they are on back order too. when driving the vehicle the truck has ( ) with a lighting volt. you loose all power and the truck stays at high idle about 1800 rpms. difficult braking when this happens. the transmission shutters.

Blower motor quits working when hot....blower motor wiring

Tl* the contact owned a 2004 dodge ram 1500. while the vehicle was parked in the driveway for over twenty-four hours, without being started or driven, it caught on fire. the fire department was notified and extinguished the fire. a fire report was filed. the contact stated that a special investigator was dispatched from fca to inspect the vehicle. due to the age of the vehicle and no determination of what caused the fire, the contact was informed that the manufacturer was not responsible for providing additional assistance. the contact was provided case number: 30972693 by the investigator. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000. the vehicle was destroyed.

A malfunction in the under hood engine compartment caused a fire which destroyed the engine, front of the vehicle and severely damaged the interior. the vehicle was parked on my driveway and had not been started nor driven in over 24 hours up to the time the incident occurred.

2004 dodge ram 1500 i've been complaining since the truck had 90000 miles on it about the headlights going out and not turning back on. i have been told it's the headlight module and i replaced it with a new aftermarket one but the trucks still doing the same thing. i was driving and the headlights went out and i couldn't see and hit a deer at 20mph on a back road . police were not called because the damage was only the bumper . but if this doesn't get fixed someone could get hurt as without light you can't see to drive and the lights won't come back on. this is just like the ford recall i received for my car... *tr

When stationary and no key in the ignition: the electronic automatic door locks disjunction. sometimes, when the vehicle is not intentionally locked, the doors will lock on their own without a person pressing the lock button on the door or the key fob. at other times, when the door is locked then after returning to the vehicle at a later time, the doors will be unlocked. this happens on a fairly regular basis. this could be a real problem for theft of items in the vehicle. on occasion, when driving the vehicle in motion or stopped with the engine running, with the headlights on and the lights on the dash panel all lit the truck randomly has all the lights turn-off and blink a few times and then, normally, come back on within seconds. this has happened during the evening hours in heavy traffic. this is a huge safety issue that could cause an accident. there is some sort of issue with the electrical system.

Turn signal, winshield wipers, and speed control has a mind of their own. half the time not working the rest of the time the when signaling to turn right the right dont work then when signaling left the right side blinks instead of the left. the winshield wipers just randomly swipe sometimes when not even cranked and keys not even in the ignition.

Tipm replaced in a 2004 ram 1500. replaced defective totally integrated power module (tipm). fuel pump wouldn't shut off, wipers turning on by themselves, both sides of my tail lights blacked out, no power. found out the ground to the tail light relay in the tipm failed . had to replace the tipm on 1-20-16 at a dodge dealer. all problems happened when the vehicle was either stationary, in motion, on a city street or a highway or turning. i also received a ticket for no tail lights. without tail lights caused by a faulty tipm it created the unsafe condition and caused a safety risk of getting into an accident

Faulty instrument cluster fails, shorts out causing door locks to constantly unlock cycle kill battery & electrical failure causing engine to die. i have read countless stories of others with the same problem in 2004-2005 dodge ram pickups. dealership charges $1000 dollars to fix & admits it is a manufacturing defect but refuses to help. fiat chrysler automobiles customer service also refuses to help.

Today i went to the dodge dealership so they could diagnose an electrical problem i was having in my truck. they told me that part # 56045112ae, 56051949ad need to be replaced. which are the ignition switch and the ignition wire harness. problems i was having were the power windows would not go up or down without the steering wheel all the way in the up position. the motor blowers for my a/c and heat would sometimes not work. and my air bag light was on in the cluster panel. they told me that the wires were burnt, but could not tell me the source of the problem. i told them that there must be completely too much current going through those wires to cause a problem like that and they agreed. i was then told that because of the wires being in that condition the airbag could possibly go off at any time and/or cause a fire. why is there not a recall on this issue. when doing some research on the web this is an on going problem with dodge trucks and jeeps. also part number 56051949ad has been discontinued so how do they expect to fix these problems. my truck also has the stalling problem when coming to a stop and accelerating.

My truck is a 2004 dodge ram 1500, that only has 77,965 miles. in the last month it has begin shutting off while driving, with the air on. after traveling for about 10 miles a red light flashes on then the check engine light comes on. when i wait for about a couple of minutes and start my truck back up the red light goes off but the check engine light same on until the next time i drive my truck. i looked up the code for this problem and realized that it was a clogged throttle body. i feel this should not be happened on a truck with less than 100,000 miles, especially when my truck has been in two recall in less than a month apart.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. while driving at 20 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the air bag warning light illuminated. the contact heard a buzzing noise. in addition, the horn failed to sound. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v770000 (air bags) and 15v313000 (air bags); however, the parts needed to repair the vehicle were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 101,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. while driving 10 mph, the vehicle stalled and the temperature gauge and check engine warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle restarted after the brake pedal was depressed several times; however, the failure recurred approximately every 15 miles. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 234,000. updated 09/03/15*lj updated 10/26/2017*cn

The dash modual that controls the interior lights, dash lights, and interior signals no longer works. the guages work and the signals work but there are no lights. this poses a safety issue because you cannot see your speed, oil, temp, and battery guages. im not sure when iy went bad, i got into my truck one night and none of my interior lights worked.

My parking and tail lights stopped working. , found out this is due to the design flaw of the engine fuse box as the connectors are exposed to the weather elements , thus shorted out the circuit board that sends the a negative signal to the park lamp relay at 86 ,. the cost of the repair is 500.00. dodge is fully aware of this issue as the replacement now comes with a splash guard plate to help protect the connectors. if you google 2004 dodge ram parking light issue , you will see that a lot of us have this very same problem, they should honor this recall as it can be very dangerous to drive at night with out the taillights,. *tr

My vehicles running lights stopped working and i was unable to be seen by other drivers behind me in a snow storm because my fuse box just corroded out and stopped working causing the parking lamps relay to fault. now my vehicle has no running lights working anymore and dodge did not recall this. *tr

Horn sounding for no apparent reason....checked online and found that numerous sites carry information about this issue. everything from shrunken rubber horn pad to contact inside the horn. vehicle has never been in frontal collision and bags never deployed. removed fuse and forgot about it and should have removed relay as other circuits were still open and killed a good closed cell battery. so fuse out, horns disconnected and still looking for relay. dodge claims no knowledge of issue....bull jive............... *tr

I purchased this 2004 dodge on january 5th 2015. i was to return on january 7th to have different tires & rims installed. on the way i stopped and filled the gas tank. afterwards every stop sign i came to the vehicle stalled out. it started right back up but continued to stall at every stop sign. the mechanic at redding truck & auto diagnosed that the crank sensor was bad and replaced it at no charge. it ran fine until i filled the gas tank again and started having the same problems with it stalling out. so now if i fill the tank it will stall out until i drive it for several miles or until i run some of the gas out of the tank. i was told not to fill the tank which is not a fix for this problem. *tr

When braking, the vehicle engine stalls as i slow down. the issue was intermittent, but now happens each time i break. i have to pull over with no power steering and restart the vehicle in p or n. sometimes, i have to wait a few minutes before it will let me restart. *tr

Truck lost all power, throttle lamp blinking. stalled on roadway, would start but would not give throttle to move the truck. turned key off then back on a few times and would let me apply throttle for a few seconds, then back to no power. i did this a few times just to get off the roadway. there is no throttle cable so it is a computer control problem. *tr

I closed my driver side door and locked it with the key less entry. when i came back to the car key less entry would not open my driver side door and lock is stuck in the down position. the only way to get into the truck on the driver side is to open the back door and reach around from the inside. i have read hundreds of complaints about this, why is there no recall??? *tr

The truck stalls out when stopping, turning, or just sitting at light. have replaced egr, throttle body, pcv, and had pcm updated; but truck is still stalling. dealer can't find any trouble codes and can't figure out what is causing the problem. dealer has put in calls to chrysler star, but no responses yet. from looking on line, i can see that there are many other owners with the same issue. i just know that this is a safety issue, especially when the truck stalls in the middle of a turn in traffic. i can't believe that there is not a fix or a recall on this issue. yes, this is a slow speed issue; but it is still dangerous. please help! *tr

Left rear brake light was going out intermittently, the "lamp out" light was illuminating on and off as if the bulb was going between working and not working. changed the light bulb with the recommended 3057 bulb but it didn't fix the problem. changed the bulb holder but still didn't fix the issues. checked the fuse but it was good. finally went under the rear to check if the wiring harness was loose and saw the wires for the rear lamp was pinched against the frame of the vehicle and the wire for the brake lamp was cut. there was really no give to the wiring harness; it was pulled extremely tight. vehicle has never had any issues and nothing electrical has ever been touched before. the right tail lamp is working fine but the harness for that side was not checked. all wiring is original from factory. vehicle was bought new from a dodge dealership and we have been the only owners. we feel this is a safety concern if the brake lamps are not working all the time. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled, the cruise control failed, and the speedometer failed to function properly. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 77,000.

Vehicle died opened hood to check alternator while hood was open noticed burned wire on alternator harness. spark ignited portion of valve cover near firewall unable to put out fire vehicle burned totally. *tr

I found out that i don't have a turn signal for the trailer tow on the left side it was later determined that the problem is in the fuse box. now i can't tow a trailer until the problem is fixed. this could've caused a wreck.i'm not the only person who has this problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, all of the instrument panel gauges illuminated and there was a loud noise as the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the connecting rod failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure was reported to the manufacturer. the failure and current mileage was 139,338.

Remote unlock stopped working on drivers side door and can't unlock with key. the door will open from the inside and the passenger side is working ok. have seen hundreds of this same complaint online. *tr

First it was fuel light coming on then the engine light started coming on. got that off then the blown light started coming on change all blown fuses and lights but light wouldn't go out and engine light came back on. paid to fixed after 1 year it started up all over again.

I bought an 04 ram 1500 5.7 hemi that had around 80k miles on it when i bought it in oct 2010. it was awesome the first and a half i had it, only minor repairs i.e battery, idler pulley, ignition switch. i did regular maintenance on it as well as oil changes. in late march 2012 i went to put gas in my truck and it would not let me put more than 10 or 15 cents in before it would "back fill" i was trying to figure out what the problem could be with that, then in early april 2012 i was driving home after running some errands, the truck had run great all day just like normal, but about 8 miles from house i hear this "thunk" and i have no power and i had this awful shaking and rattling noise. there were not even any warning lights telling we that there was something wrong, i called someone to tow it home that night. i did thankfully have another car to drive. in the months since i have been slowly tearing the engine apart with my dad, this week we finally pulled the heads and discovered that my # 6 piston was completely disintegrated and had punched a hole in my block! my original thought was that this was just a random fluke and it was just mine, but after reading on some dodge forums i see that it was not just mine! this is ridiculous for an engine that has no more miles than this and had been properly maintained. my parents have a 1999 ford f150 that has almost 300k on it and has not been maintained nearly as well... as my dad puts it "it has been run hard and put up wet" this engine has run like a champ! it even still has the original battery in it! there are many more reports of this happening to this engine both in the durango with that year hemi as well as the ram on this forum http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f1dd4b2/270. *tr

I was driving at freeway speed, around 70 mph. suddenly, i heard a noise from the rear of the truck and i noticed my speedometer went to zero. i was still moving at the same speed. the fault code identified a failure in the speed sensor in the rear differential. i was out of warranty, so i pulled the differential cover off and found what was left of the speed sensor in the bottom of the housing. i also found pieces of what was later identified as c clips from my lsd clutch assembly. the inductive portion of the speed sensor protrudes into the differential housing and was hit by the flying pieces of c clips. the carrier bearing also had a grove cut into it by these clips as they worked their way out. i am told that if i had not caught this, it would have resulted in carrier bearing failure and lock up of my rear axle. i removed all of the metal c clip pieces and removed the remaining c clips that had not yet fallen out. i don't know if there is any connection, but my left rear leaf spring cracked in half on the lower main leaf. i had to replace the spring assembly at my cost. i now have a permanent whine at low speeds and currently have 125,000 miles on my truck. i am certainly glad that i found these metal pieces when i did! there appears to be many complaints regarding this failure in my truck model, ranging from model years 2003 through 2006 ram 1500 equipped with the 5.7 hemi. at this time, chrysler has not acknowledged the patterned failures in these rear differentials. *tr

The door lock actuator has quit working. this prohibits any of the power door locks from working and the fob wont work. cd player has a cd stuck in it and will not eject. these issues are well documented on websites as prominent problems. *tr

2004 dodge ram 1500 power distribution center or front control module for no reason is bad. the dealership said it just corroded. *tr

2004 dodge 1500 ram hemi 5.7 quad cab with faulty cruise control. turning on cruise control and off functions normally. selecting "set" on the left hand side of the steering wheel fails to engage cruise control desired speed with cruise control on. this happens 10-15 times out of 75-90 times selected during a period of a month. also, periodically during the 10-15 times a month, cruise control will be engaged with a current speed "set," and while driving the truck slows down and prevents re-engagement of "set" on the left hand controller of the steering wheel while cruise control is still on. changed battery with no effect. throttle body is functioning normally. no blown fuses. seems that temperature extremes of 45 degrees or below and 90 degrees and higher heightens the effects of this deficiency. when turning ignition from off through intermediate to on position (not start) with trip button held in greater than 15 secs, c-code displays 67 15 then displays 00 00. truck has 66945 miles currently. *tr

My 2004 dodge ram 1500 pick up with a 5.7 liter engine began to stall upon braking and coming to a stop. the engine would lose rpm and die (stall) leaving me with no brakes or steering. it would restart easily but occur again frequently. took the vehicle to a repair shop and after extensive and expensive diagnosis was found to have a failing throttle body and associated electrical failure. a new throttle body was obtained from dodge (different part number from original) and installed. total cost for the work was approximately $2,500.00. my research shows that this problem is extensive in this model and is dangerous.

Tail lights and park lamps on my 2004 dodge ram keeping failing do to i defect in the power distribution center/fuse box almost caused to get hit by a tractor trailer at night cant even order part because i've been told it's on backorder and dealer keeps denying fault or chrysler wont replace unit this is happening on thousands of 2004 2005 and 2006 dodge rams. *tr

Had just filled gas tank fifteen minutes earlier. driving on mountain rd. slowed for curve and engine quit, almost ran into logging truck headon. this has happened several times after fillup. once while driving 65 mph on freeway. slowed to let another vehicle in front of me and engine quite as soon as i touched the brakes. when i fill gas tank it usually die at first stop. does this until i have used up some of the gas. have asked dealer who sold the truck to me to look into this several times before i get killed. no response. i no longer drive that road just after fill up. have checked the internet and found that several 1500 ram owners have had the same problem. it will be like the ignition switch problem. people will have to get killed to get it fixed. *tr

While using a tire inflater the plugs into my cigarette lighter of my 2004 dodge ram 1500 the truck caught fire behind the dash. turns out the fuse did not blow heating the circuit until it started burning the plastic in the dash the fuse that was in the dash i purchased from harbor freight a couple of years ago i had not known there was a recall on the fuses. now what? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. while the contact was driving approximately 30 mph, a fire ignited from the instrument panel without warning. immediately, the engine was turned off; and the contact exited the vehicle. there were no personal injuries. the fire department was called to the scene. a police report was filed of the incident. the vehicle was completely destroyed and towed to the residence. the failure mileage was 57,000. the vin was not available at the time of the complaint.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that all of the lights on the instrument panel illuminated as the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure but advised replacing the speed sensor, which appeared to be defective. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but offered no further assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 88,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 dodge ram 1500 quad. the alternator caught on fire and burned the engine. he contacted the dealer and the manufacturer in reference to recall# 04v385000 (electrical system:alternator/generator/regulator). he was advised that because his vehicle identification number was excluded from the recall, they would not assume any responsibility. he was in the process of having the vehicle repaired. the failure mileage was 68,000.

i contacted chrysler and voiced my frustrations at a problem i had been having since november 2009 wherein my truck arbitrarily stalls and misfires. to date, the technicians at rothrock in allentown, pa have not been able to find out what is causing this problem. heads were replaced cylinders were swapped coils were swapped plugs and wires replaced computer checked wiring harness replaced....still the 1, 3, 5, and 7 cylinders stop working and the truck becomes unsafe. rothrock has had it for 8 weeks. i am without a truck, they can not figure out what is wrong with it, and i will not take it back while it is in this condition as it is extremely unsafe. it had stalled at least half a dozen times while i was driving it, plus it stalled in my driveway on numerous occasions. needless to say, i was aghast to find the following bulletins that showed this is an ongoing problem that chrysler minimized and closed- nhtsa defect investigation #ea05018 engine stall: power train:automatic transmission:control module (tcm, pcm) ** closed no recall issued ** this defect investigation is filed under 2 related vehicle components. 2004 dodge ram -- analysis of the complaint, field report and warranty data shows that the majority of stalling incidents in the subject vehicles appear to be related to the engine calibration concerns that daimlerchrysler addressed with service bulletins releasing revised pcm software. analysis of the complaints and odi's survey of owners of vehicles that received engine management software updates under tsb #18-013-05 show that these stalling incidents have the following characteristics: - they occur at low speeds, often during parking lot or driveway maneuvers; - they occur during decelerations, such as braking for a stop sign or traffic signal; and - the operator is almost always able to immediately restart the vehicle. *tr

The turn signals, wipers, and high beams on my 04 dodge ram 1500 have been giving me issues for the last year. this started out as an intermittent problem and has gotten worse over time. at first it was just the turn signals. when i would signal left the right blinker would come on, or visa versa. then sometimes it would work fine, and other times it would not come on at all. it's gotten worse over time and now i am at the point where only when i signal left will the right signal come on; nothing else works. my hazard switch at one time would work the left signal, and the left clicker would work the right signal but now that does not work either. at this point my hazard switch and left clicker now only work the right blinker and i have no way to work the left. as for the high beams, sometimes i am un-able to disengage them which is very dangerous for on-coming traffic. at this point i do not risk it and just don't use them, which can be dangerous to myself at some times. the wipers have a mind of their own. sometimes when i have them on full speed/fast in heavy rain they will all of a sudden reduce to the lowest or middle setting. sometimes they will just not turn on at all. i almost got into a major accident because of this and now just avoid driving in the rain if at all possible. *tr

My 2004 dodge ram driver side stop working my keys got lock inside the only way to open is by using the remote and climb through one of the other doors which now it is impossible since none of my doors open anymore specially the driver door that it is supposed to open either with the original key or the remote which i can't do either, this is very frustrating because i am an older woman and can't be climbing through my window to do perform this. please help *tr *js
