Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2000 Dodge Ram 1500

First is the dash. i bought the truck in feb 04 with 74,000 miles on it and shortly after i noticed a crack in the dashboard, since then the dash is falling apart and is more brittle than a sporting clay. if you snap off a piece and look at it you can see that about 1/5th of the way down from the top is brown since it has cooked in the sun. so that proves that dodge uses very cheap plastic for the dashboards. i looked into replacing it about 6 months ago and the top piece of the dash cost about 200$ and now that i have gotten my tax returns back i was going to get a new one but the price is now 375$. i guess dodge finally realized the problem with these dashboards and decided to cash in on them. the torque converter went out on the drive home from the dealership also, but 50 bucks from me and 2100$ from the warranty people fixed that. second is the asd relay which means automatic shutdown relay and it isn't kidding with the name. a couple years ago when i started my truck it would shut off right away and wouldn't run right until i feathered the gas for a little bit, after replacing the throttle body control solenoid, the idle air control motor and mass air flow sensor i did a little more research and found it to be a 10 dollar relay from napa. the third problem is a whooping noise coming from the engine that i still can't figure out what it is. the truck makes the noise when its sitting still so i know its nothing in the suspension, although its louder when idling over small bumps. the fourth was the speed sensor in the rear differential, abs and brake light came on but didn't affect performance at all, replaced the sensor and didn't have any more trouble from it. fifth problem is the back window leaks but i'm going to fix that with a generous blob of welder glue inside when i finally get around to pulling the headliner down. *tr

Dash cracks, fell apart. *tr

My 2000 dodge ram 1500 has a cracked dash that i thought nothing of for the longest time, of course i wasn't happy with the fact i had a cracked dash, but once i realized that it could actually affect my airbag at deployment it became an immediate concern. *nm

I own a 2000 dodge ram 1500, the dashboard was severly cracking, and had a few pieces break loose. luckly the pieces didnt hit me. these cracks apeared about 3 yrs ago, and have gotten alot worse. i could find no solution but to replace the top part of the dashboard that was cracking at a cost of $850.00 installed. *ak

Dashboard cracked and caved in. totally destroyed by cracking. *ak

Purchased 2000 dodge ram 1500 pick up used in 2003. in the same year the dash board started to crack ,it now has large pieces missing. spoke to dealer who was not able to help. i know three people who own dodge trucks similar years, all three have cracking dash boards. *tr

The entire top dash is cracked and the dash around the gauges is also cracking. it rattles pieces are starting to come loose and expose wiring. it is a safety issue due to sharp edges and flying pieces in the event of an accident, some may be smashed into someone's face by the airbag. this has been getting worse over time. *tr

The dashboard of my 2000 dodge ram started cracking shortly after purchase. it has completely disintegrated and leaves sharp corners and working parts exposed to the occupants of the vehicle. *tr

Dt: contact stated the dashboard started showing hair line cracks and have progressed into spider webbing. pieces broke off and spilled over underneath the dashboard, including the radio, heater, and passenger air bag area. where the pieces broke off, the dashboard was very sharp, brittle and posed a safety risk. he was afraid that if the air bag deployed one of these pieces could project and hurt someone. because the vehicle was no longer under warranty the manufacturer and dealer offered no help. the vehicle has not been repaired. *ak updated 12/27/05. *jb

The dashboard on my 2000 dodge ram 1500 is crumbling. i am concerned that it will cause a failure of the passenger side airbag in the event of a crash. the dodge dealer would not replace it unless i paid for the repair because they claimed it was cosmetic only. *jb

The dash on my dodge ram 1500 is completly falling apart. this started when this truck had 30,000 miles but now the wiring ,controling radio, speakers lights, etc is being affected - this has now became a safety hazard. *tr

I have a dodge ram 1500 p/u truck bought new in 2000. in 2004 the dash board began cracking in multiple places. according to local dodge dealership my truck was out of warranty and this was expected in the florida sun. within 6 months after the crack started, the middle of the dash caved in - the entire dashboard is now very brittle. i do not feel a dashboard should only last just outside the warranty period. the replacement cost of the dash from dodge was $1000+. how do i proceed with this issue. this is not fair to the many dodge customers. *tr

The dashboards of our dodge survey truck have failed and had to be replaced at our expense. not only have the dashboards failed but the transmissions as well, and again replaced at our expense. *tr

I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 pickup truck, just a few years after normal use the plastic trim and mainly the dashboard just cracked and pieces have been falling off exposing the wiring and electrical systems to the scorching sun. how many complaints does it take for our government to step up and order a recall. the dashboard and all the plastic trim in this vehicles is of poor quality, just do a research on google and you'll find how many people have the same problem , it's on every dodge vehicle from 1998 till 2005, it just broke sitting in the driveway i have parts of the dash missing exposing the electrical to the sun. i'll have to purchase a new dashboard and pay $300.00 for it and $400.00 to have it installed. *tr

The dash in my 2000 dodge ram is cracked, broke and falling off in chunks . dodge is aware of the problem but not willing to fix it......... this is a huge problem with alot of customers. *tr

I have a 2000 dodge pickup. the dashboard has been cracking in several laces over the last few years. it keeps getting worse every time i look at it. i contacted dodge and they told me to get an estimate from my local dealer. when i contacted them back with the estimate i was told there was nothing they could do about it. i know i'm not the only one with this problem. hopefully there will be a recall after they get there bailout money. *tr

Entire top of dash developed several large cracks within few years of purchase. *tr

Dash started to crack ,then falling apart, took to dealer under warranty, they said it was not warranty and gave verbal quote around 700.00 dollars to replace. *tr

The dashboard of my 2000 dodge ram 1500 has at least 20 cracks in it with one large hole from pieces falling in. i understand that this has become a huge issue with dodge owners, but daimer-chrysler has done nothing to resolve the issue. i have not contacted a dealership local to me as i have seen all too often that owners are being rejected by them. where is our protection as consumers? *tr

I have a 2000 dodge pickup 1500 and my dashboard is crack, large pieces have broken off. wire, air vents and other items are exposed in the open and to the sun. i have experience problems with my air condition and radio speakers. i noticed that my dashboard had cracks 5 years ago, i called and email dodge to informed them of my situation, but they had no recalls and no manufacturing defects that been reported for this problem. but i researched the internet and found many websites stating their concerns and issues with their dashboard on dodge pickups. i hope this problem can be resolved and that dodge will take responsibility and acknowledge their mistake with the dashboard for dodge pickups. *tr

The dashboard is cracked and caving in. there are large pieces of the dash just crumbling. i have read hundreds of complaints by other consumers with the same problem. obviously a factory defect with cheap plastic. dodge states the dash is "upholstery" and is not covered under any warranty. *tr

Cracks on my dash board are spreadin on my 2000 dodge ram....... its a saftey concern i have *kb

I bought a 2000 dodge ram 1500 in august of 2002. in january 2003 on a fairly cold morning on my way to work, i drove over a small speed bump and my dashboard cracked from one end to the other. the crack has spread on two other occasions just by hitting small bumps in the road. *nm

I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500. the dashboard is cracked extremely bad and dodge has no interest in helping repair this problem. there are many other ram owners in my area with the same problem. *tr

The dashboard in my 2000 dodge ram 1500 slt has been slowly cracking for the past 6 years or so and has now a sizeable hole from a piece breaking off. my concern is the "dry insulation" that causes dust to filter into my ventilation system and blows into the cab for me and my passengers to breath. not healthy at all. this product should be recalled or paid for a replacement. there is no solution other than to replace. *tr

The dashboard in my 2000 dodge ram cracked to pieces. i have learned this is a common problem with this model vehicle. *tr

Dash is cracked all over and has cracked into passenger air bag cover.*ak

Dash board has literally shattered!! started with what looked like a stress cracked when vehicle was 2 years old, then cracks appeared every where. have brought in to dealer a few times to complain, but was told there was nothing that could be done. they have received other complaints but until there was a recall nothing could be done unless it was at my expense ($550). dash is now duct taped together (what pieces remain) and have purchased a dash mat to cover. concern is that pieces are falling through and this may cause malfunction in electrical system and/or air bags. *nm

I have a 2000 dodge ram truck and the dash is all cracked. i called dodge customer care and they cant do anything are don't want to do anything. it isthere fault they should fix it. *tr

I purchased a 2000 dodge ram 1500 new in 2000. at 50,000 miles the dash began to crack at 2 yrs old. although i purchased an extended warranty to 75k miles, i was informed by a dealer that trim and upholstery was not covered. now the dash has completely failed, a huge hole has emerged, it rattles this has caused the defrost vent not work properly and possibly the passenger airbag may be compromised due to the dash becoming unsecure because the plastic has broken from around the screws. i recently went to another dealer to get a quote of over $1000 to repair. the dealer tells me that chrysler has been fixing these trucks if the original owner still owns it regardless of warranty expiration. because of the product failure. so i then call the 800 number given only to be told that it is basically too late now because my truck is 8 yrs old. this was hard to swallow because i tried to repair it under my extended warranty when only 2 yrs old. i am very, very dis-satisfied with the product and service of chrysler corp. i know that there are literally thousands of have experienced the same problem and i look at every truck the same body style as mine, and they all have cracked dashes. i went online to find several websites of dodge owners with the same problem with warranty and service. this is a factory defect that chrysler should at least offer a substantial amount of assistance with the repair or lower the cost of the parts to repair so that people can afford them. *tr

Dashboard cracking. started with 1 crack from windshield to front of dash. more cracks developed. replaced original with part from dealer. new dash cracked in almost same pattern. edges of dash cracking and falling off. *tr

I have a 2000 dodge 1500 p/u every since we bought the truck we cannot get any help to replace the cracked dashboard. its a hazard while driving, the trucks value is' 0' due to the cracked dash. dodge should be 100% responsible for replacement of defected part! we did nothing to cause damage, we cant even wipe it when we clean the truck. i am in fear that my new grandson could get cut from the sharp edges if he were to put his hands on the dash. plus me & my stroke. *tr

Dashboard cracking after being taken care of properly. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the dashboard was severely cracked. the contact also stated that small pieces of the dashboard fractured while driving various speeds, causing minor eye injuries. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on several occasions, but no assistance was provided. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 7,000.

The dashes on the 2000 dodge ram they just fall apart. *nm

My dash board for no reason started cracking while my truck was still under warranty, but nobody would take responsibility for this problem. now the problem has escalated to the point of parts of my dash board is actually falling out. it is cracked over the entire dash board and is starting to spread futher. i am concerned that this problem isn't going to stop until my dash board is falling in my lap. the way i look at it is, a 2000 model vehicle that i paid over $20,000 for should not be having this problem in only 3 years! someone should be responsible for this problem and it shouldn't be me! *ak

My dash boar dhas cracked and is falling in.i'm scared it might catch fire with all the wires in the dash. y back window leaked every time it rained so i had to replace it with a after market one for $325.00.*ak my truck some times makes a whinny noise in reverse and i was told that is how dodges are. know some times when i stop and go to take off the transmission won't catch and i look at the rpms and it's showing no rpms but the truck is running.i had the truck put on the machine and nothing came up being wrong.

Goodyear invecta gl tires experience uneven and premature wear, dealer states tires are wrong type for vehicle, dodge states tires are correct, tires caused vibration and caused vehicle to drift, tire size p235/75r15. bezle was loose on driver door panel, rear doors leaked, dealer adjusted and aligned both rear doors due to excessive gap. vehicle experienced coolant leak. consumer hears wind noise. air conditioner would not cool properly. there is a loud noise from the exhaust. vehicle gets poor gas mileage, only gets around 9 miles per gallon. *slc

The passenger quad door speaker buzzes, dealer replaced speaker, the buzzing noise is still present. *slc

Dashboard failure on 2000 dodge ram 1500 truck. the dashboard has fractures / cracks that propagate to airbag area passenger side. i have shut airbag off on the passenger side in fear of airbag ignition and flying shards of hard plastic coming from decomposing dash. it is apparent that this plastic material is defective considering the vehicle is garaged and has only 46,000 miles on it's od. dash area on drivers side has completely fractured with pieces beginning to dislodge and fall into wiring harness above steering area. fear is chaffing occurring at wire harness locations from dislodged plastic shards and creating the potential for electrical interior fire. *tr

I own a 2000 dodge ram 1500 quad cab. over time the top dash has been crumbling to pieces however now it has completely collapsed in. this concerns me because i have looked for recalls on poor manufacturing for this and have found none. now the instrument panel is rattling around and i'm concerned that it may fall in my lap while driving down the road as i have read several complaints of this happening. i have looked into replacing it myself but the cost is ridiculous and i feel that dodge should have to repair and replace their own poor quality dash. if this isn't enough now the plastic hinges snapped in two which made that fall off the dash. please help not only me but other dodge owners get what they have rightfully paid for, not poor quality manufacturing. *tr

2000 dodge ram 1500 the dash has cracked and is completly disinagrating. i am afraid that this could effect my air bags. *nm
