Dash falling aprt deterioating. *js
Shortly after we purchased the vehicle back in 2000 the dashboard started to crack. throughout the years the plastic dash has become more brittle and the broken pieces have the strength and texture of peanut brittle but are rather sharp. we would find pieces all over the cab of the truck and if you dropped something down in the dash and tried to retrieve it, you would often come in contact with the sharp edges of the plastic that was still attached to the rest of the dash assembly. here recently the inner-frame that is also made of the same faulty plastic which holds the radio, temperature controls, headlight switch, airbag control switch, instrument panel, etc has also started to crack and the components are beginning to detach from the rest of the dash assembly. the main concern that we have recently noticed is how the passenger air-bag cover snaps onto the cracking dashboard plastic, if the air-bag were to deploy sharp plastic shards would be sent towards the passenger with the airbag. we have filed multiple complaints with our local dodge dealer and the dodge corporation directly and they simply tell us the vehicle is out of warranty and there is nothing they can do and offer for us to pay for the dashboard to be replaced. we should not have to pay for the mistake of the company due to them using defective plastic to mold the dashboard assembly. *js

While warming my truck up on a cold morning i turned on the windshield defrost once the truck was warm. i heard cracking and popping. when i turned the defrost fan off i noticed the dash had cracked into approx 24 pieces causing the dash to fall onto the wires. when i contacted dodge i was told that they were aware of the issue however there had been no recall but they could replace the dash for $900. i looked at molded dash overlays to repair the problem but there is nothing left to adhere it to. *tr

The dashboard is falling apart. it is cracked in multiple places and could turn into sharp flying objects if airbags are deployed. *tr
The dash on my 2000 dodge ram 1500 has cracked to the point that there is barely any left. i feel this is a safety issue because the broken pieces could fly at someone and cause serious injuries. also upon impact the dash could have further pieces break off and cause damage. *tr
The dash started to crack in this time frame and continues to crack into pieces which may fall into the housing. these pieces are sharp and in an accident could easily break away and cause bodily harm. this is a well known issue with the dash and also the black cover in this vehicle spanning a number of years. the plastic is obviously sub standard and defective. it is not only a cosmetic issue but a safety issue in that further damage could occur from further deterioration of the defective materials. *tr
Driving at approx. 25 mph an a residential street, i hit a pothole. the dashboard, which was badly cracked as a result of manufacturer defect, suffered catastrophic failure, collapsing in pieces. the bezel fell forward, obstructing the gauges, and two pieces fell near the pedals. i was able to pull over without further incident. *tr

Dashboard is cracking in chunks and flying around in truck while window is open. *tr
Dash board caved in. now frame that holds the instrument panel, fan controls, and light controls is broke and brittle. the dash board has tendancy to tilt toward me when accelerating. *tr
Dash of 2000 dodge ram 1500 cracking in several areas and is now falling apart causing loose pieces to become lodged below the dash area that could interfere with the deployment of the airbag or become flying pieces in an accident. *tr
The front cover and top of the dashboard on my 2000 dodge ram 1500 has been slowly falling apart over the last two years. i have removed the front instrument cover due to dangerous sharp edges. the top of the dash has split into four sections with numerous cracks radiating from the bolts near the windshield. had a 6"x10" section of the top dash pop out and land in my lap when i hit a pothole. *tr
Dash cover has self destructed into many jagged and broken pieces. i have had pieces drop into the dash and my biggest concern is that in event of an accident this will come loose with impact or be propelled by the deployment of the airbags and become missiles inside of the vehicle. *tr
I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 extended cab and the hood unexpectedly flew up going down the highway and smashed my window and the hood is destroyed. this is the second time, very very dangerous, for me and the drivers behind me. the grill flew off and possibly damaged the cars behind and next to me. the first time it happened was a couple years ago and i was very lucky it was not a busy road and i was only going abut 35-45 mph. to correct it i had to buy a new hood, grill and all parts pertaining to the hood replacement....oh also a new windshield. thanks dodge! *tr
Severely cracked dashboard...cut thumb / hand. *tr
The dash board has shattered and fallen into the vehicle. pieces of the dash fly out at you when you turn the fan on. the pieces of the dash are allover the floor and get into everything. if we ere to be in an accident the air bags would come straight out the top and hit the windshield. the dash board provides no support to the vehicle and would not help anyone in the front seat if they were to be in an accident.. *tr
2000 dodge ram 1500 cracked dashboard. i have wires exposed the airbag can be seen, pieces of plastic fall and fly around the car daily. updated 03/12/10

2000 dodge ram 1500 with a disintegrating dash. we bought it used with a tiny crack in the dash, had no idea it was such a major problem. in a few short months, the dash has started disintegrating before our eyes. large jagged chunks are breaking off, opening up the whole dash, even around the air bags. i am concerned that if there is a crash, the air bags either wont work or the dash will break off into a million shards and kill us. this is ridiculous! my son actually cut his finger picking up something from the dash the other day! *tr

I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500. and the dashboard has completely cave in. it has happen to lots of trucks this model and year of truck. *tr
Dashboard is cracking and will not safely support deployment of a passenger airbag. *tr
Dash in my 2000 dodge ram 1500 is falling apart, and where it's cracked edges are like razor blades. *tr
Bought used 2000 dodge ram 4x4 this past summer. it only has 61,000 miles on it. about three months after buying it, we noticed a very large crack in the center of the dashboard going from window to edge of front. i had read about this fault with this model truck, but when we bought it, it had no crack. i am afraid for our safety now. there should be a recall as it is a safety problem! but, of course, dodge won't recall anything.........like the defective ball joints, front ends, etc. *tr
2000 dodge ram 1500. dashboard is severely cracked in several places. vehicle never involved in any accidents. i feel that cracked dashboard could pose an additional hazard in the event of air bag deployment. *tr
For the last few years i have watched my dashboard slowly deteriorate. it started with small hairline cracks that have evolved into huge cracks. every bumb causes the cracked sections to cave in, requiring me to lift those sections with a screw driver. i take very good care of my truck, cleanin and polishin it twice a month. i receive compliments from people telling me that my truck looks as if it was just drivin out of a show room except for my dashboard. i'm terrified to think of what might happen if some sharp pieces were to fly in my or my passengers eyes in the event of an impact. ( please) bring this matter to dodge's attention, lets not wait for a statistic to make us think, yea, we should have done something about it. *tr
Dash is cracking in several spots, could interfere with the air bag deployment in the event of an accident. new cracks start and old ones grow in size. *tr
No matter what i do to take care of it the dash just keeps cracking more and more. there are rattles in the dash from the pieces that have broken off. i fear that some day the dash is going to break loose while i am driving causing my foot to get stuck on the accelerator. *tr
Dodge ram 1500 dash board is about to fall off in my lap while driving and i am afraid when it does it will cause injury or my death...it has already caused a minor injury to a fiend of mine in the passenger seat. we were driving down the road and the glove compartment fell off on her foot and caused 2 hairlinr fractures. the hinge had cracked and broken like the rest of the dash its just a matter or time before gets killed. my electrical system is malfunctioning lights go on and off at night this issue is going to get people killed. *tr
2000 dodge ram 1500. the dash is faulty and falling into pieces. due to the dash literally falling apart, electrical wiring and electrical components are exposed. concerned about the risk of fire or electrical shock. also concerned about occupant safety if a crash occurred due to the lack of integrity of the dash. *tr
I own a 2000 dodge ram 1500 4x4. the dash board is cracking. if this continues the dash will fall down. i believe dodge should recall these trucks & repair them... *tr
Piece of my dashboard broke off and fell under my brake pedal. *tr
The dashboard developed 2 large cracks in it. i am worried about flying debris from this if there was a crash in this truck. *tr
