Problems with 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 STRUCTURE

Had to replace dash due to multiple cracks at approx 68k miles. *tr

There is a large cracks on the passenger side of the dashboard,it has cracked into several small pieces,if the air bag were to deploy these pieces could become deadly,i have turned off the air bag as to keep this from possibly happening,i have taken very good care of this truck,64,000 miles and its a 2000 dodge ram 1500 quad cab. i know this is a problem in this truck. *tr

I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 pickup that i drove off the dealer lot new in january 2000. the dash began to crack, then the cracks developed into holes. chunks and shards of plastic have fallen down into the dash. the cracks extend down to the passenger side airbag which has now been turned off due to the risk of flying plastic missiles if the airbag is deployed. this was not due to excessive sun since the truck has been parked in shady areas for most of the time i've owned it. nothing has ever been allowed to be placed on the dash to cause any kind of stress damage. this truck was assembled in mexico according to the tag inside the door. i am concerned about the safety issue involved with the sharp, brittle plastic and the fact that this is clearly a result of poor quality plastic. thank you. *tr

I own a 2000 dodge 1500 pick-up after about 4 years of ownership the dashboard developed a small crack at the passenger defroster vent. the crack increased in size until the top of the passenger dashboard was in many sections. this may cause a problem if the passenger air bag was deployed by sending flying pieces of dashboard out with the force of the air bag. ak

Plastic dash and facia has cracked and is breaking off in large pieces leaving very sharp edges on dash and facia. *tr

The dashboard and front plate are disintegrating. pieces are falling inside the dash body. it is so brittle just closing the doors causes additional cracks. to prevent a possible malfunction of the passenger airbags i shut it off. *tr

I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 quad cab. this is my 4th dodge ram truck and i have never had this problem before. i first noticed a small crack in the corner and then another, and another...now i can probably fit a basketball or something in there the hole is so big. this is absolutely crazy. you pay $30,000 for a vehicle and then you tell the dealership about it and they don't want any part of it except to try and sell you another new vehicle. i have called and complained to the corporation and they want nothing to do with it either. i am not sure of the exact date of when this happened, but it was around the same time that my clear coat came off my truck as well, that i used to wash every other week and take very excellent care of. they told me the problem of the dash and the paint was because my truck was black and i lived in florida. when i let them know that this was my 4th dodge truck and i have owned all of them in fl, one was red and the other 3 were all black as well and they never had any problems, they just got really quiet and tried to change the subject. when i wouldn't let them and kept pushing the issue, they never had an answer for me and basically blew me off. pretty sad when you think about it, you spend that much money on a vehicle and you take excellent care of it and then it falls apart because they use crappy parts of something and they don't even care. myself and my step dad talked to the guy who sold me the vehicle (phil bobbit) and he told me that he would "take care of it for me" and to just bring it into the paint and body and they would fix it up for me. well when we showed up for that they looked at me like i had a third eye or something. they knew nothing about this discussion with phil. then i left several messages for him and he never returned my calls. *tr

The dash on our 2000 dodge ram is cracked to pieces. daimler chrysler says that it's not a defect. i have researched this and found it to be common. i am worried about air bag deployment and the possibility of one of the shards being projected into someone. we bought the vehicle last year, the dash was cracked when we got it and that's why the gentleman was selling it. however, now it's falling apart. it's no longer just cracked, but in pieces. the incident date indicated is around the time we got the vehicle as i have no way to find out when the problem began. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated the dashboard cracked above the steering wheel, and in the corner by the passenger window. the cracks continued to get worse until the crack above the steering wheel grew to 16 inches, and the one near the passenger window became a hole 3 inches in diameter. the cracks caused the wiring under the dashboard to corrode slightly. the vehicle was taken to a private repair shop, who determined that the dashboard needed to be replaced. the mechanic also noted that between 1994 and 2001, the dashboards on those vehicles were all cracking.

Dt: the consumer stated that 2000 dodge ram 1500 had a brittle dashboard. the driver stated that when he touched the dashboard pieces fell off and they were sharp like glass. the dashboard corroded for about 8 months to a year. the maintenance department reported this to the dealership. consumer did not know if the manufacturer had been called. this was not consumer's truck, it belonged to the county of manatee, florida. no one tried to do any repairs to the dashboard. *ak

I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 4x4 sport and the dash looks like somebody put a hand grenade on it and blew it up. it started cracking about 4 years ago and today there are more pieces of it broken off than there are still intact. i didn't think it was a very common problem but it is extremely common. i like dodge but i would be ashamed if i were them for making something so cheap built and then not standing behind it to fix or replace it. that's not good for business especially for return customers. i think it could also be a safety risk. if those razor sharp dash pieces are launched off the dash fast enough, they could slice right through you. they should grow a set and replace these dashes!!! *tr

I have a 2000 dodge ram that the dash cracked and is now falling out in huge pieces this started about 4 to 5 years ago. i'm worried that this will affect the air bag on the passenger side of the truck and the wiring under the dash. when i called the dodge line they said it would have to do a diagnostic test at the dealership we had already talked to a dealership and they said there was no problems with the dashes in the dodge trucks and it would cost around $800.00 to replace. *tr

`like thousands of other dodge ram owners, i have a severely cracking and collapsed dashboard in my 2000 ram 1500. the cracking started around 60kmi and had started on the passenger side originating from the bolts securing the upper dash to the inside firewall. eventually a crack will form from all of the bolts, with some crack connecting with others causing pieces of the dash to collapse. once this happens, the upper (5) bolts will be providing no support to any part of the dash, except for those pieces directly connected to the bolts. this vehicle was assembled in the mexico plant. i believe that the problem is with the installation. my theory is that when the dash is originally installed, the dash is rested upon (2) bolts at the bottom under the side kickplates and then the top (5) are used to bring the dash into its final resting position. while doing this, there may still be residual forces on those top bolts pulling the dash down even after the (2) lower bolts are tightened. the procedure should be to push or hold the dash in place until the lower (2) bolts are tightened and then the top (5) bolts are there only to secure the upper dash only. i would like to recommend installing a center shimmy brace that would be used to position the assembly in the final resting position that would connect between the dash subframe and the inside firewall. once in position the dash the lower (2) bolts can be torqued. then the (5) top bolts would not be attempting to hold the dash in place. i consider this a safety hazard during an event where the passenger side airbag is deployed and potential sharp pieces of the cracked dashboard are thrown about the cab area. *tr

A crack in the dashboard of my 200 dodge 1500 ram quad cab 4x4 started 3 yrs. ago. the local dealer said they would charge me 100.00 for diagnostics. " the dash is cracked " so badly, that i use a felt cover to hide the embarrassment. how can i ever sell this truck like this. *tr

Dash had started cracking bad,had to have a new heater core put in and when the mechanic removed the dash it fell to pieces,bought a cloth cover and had to have an air conditioner put in so when the removed the damaged dash it fell apart more. *tr
