Problems with 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 STRUCTURE

The dashboard of my 2000 dodge ram 1500 quad cab has cracked in half twice. the first time happened after the dealership replaced the air conditioning evaporator. i paid 50% of the cost with them to replace it with a new dashboard. this new dashboard has now cracked in two places and the instrument bezel is cracking as well. i have heard that this is very common with 1995-2003 dodge rams and it can cause electrical failures. *tr

2000 dodge ram 1500 lariame slt- dashboard is cracking in multiple pieces and looks as if will eventually come apart exposing vital internal electrical parts. i think that this faulty part and chyrsler needs to recall /replace these dashboards. the cost for labor is outrageous because of how parts were constructed. air bag is located in the dashboard, i wonder if this will deploy or be damaged by the continuation of the cracking of the dashboard located surrounding and above it. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the dashboard was cracking and had a hole just above the instrument panel. the dealer stated that they could replace the dashboard but since there was no recall and the warranty had expired they would not repair it at no cost. the contact stated that due to the numerous complaints that the manufacturer should issue a recall. the failure mileage was 149,000.

The dash cover on my 2000 has cracked to the point there is virtually no cover left. the interior of the dash is exposed, what dash is left is jagged and sharp, and i shudder to think what might happen in an accident. now, the instrument bezel has begun cracking, and the clips that attach it are gone - they are part of the now missing dash cover. the electrical wires behind the dash are exposed and the insulation has started to get brittle. the edges of the dash are jagged and pointed. the bezel interferes with driving the truck. *tr

I own a 2000 dodge ram 1500 pickup truck. in 2005 the dashboard started with some fine line cracks which have gotten longer and larger until this year . the dashboard has totally caved in and broken into several large pieces. my concern is with the area beneath the dashboard that was now exposed along with the condition of the dashboard. i have experienced a electrical problem of the truck , not starting. like the battery was dead. i have replaced the battery at least twice and the starter and alternator professionally checked by 3 different mechanics trying to locate the problem. also, we have tried to trace the system for a short. i was wondering if the caved in dashboard has exposed some wires to the elements. we live in florida and try to amour all moisture the dashboard and use a sun screen for protection. at first i thought it might just be my dodge truck, but my daughter has a 2001 dodge 1500 and the dashboard started cracking for no reason. is this a dodge problem? i happened to catch a news story about this same problem and found that we are not alone, that this seemed to be a problem with the dodge trucks along with potential electrical problems. you can contact [email protected] for more information on the data he has collected concerning this issue. if would seem dodge needed to look in to the problem. *ak

The dash on my 2000 dodge ram 1500 quad cab began cracking about a year ago. at this time i have two large cracks that have met to form a half moon shape that is sticking up from the rest of the dash. i also ha have two smaller cracks that extend from the windshield to the edge of the dash where it curves down to the airbag. i am certain that should the airbag deploy in a crash sections of the dash were the cracks are will fly off and cause further injury to anyone in the passenger compartment. *tr

I purchased a used 2000 dodge ram 1500 in november 2006. at the time of purchase there were no visible defects. however, since that time the dash has cracked and collapsed almost entirely. the left front speaker and air conditioner no longer work. there was no impact or trauma that brought it on. it was at first a small crack on the passenger side that spread towards the driver side. we now have a gaping hole through middle and right side of dash with new cracks developing on the driver side. *tr

This is a dodge 1500 2000. i bought this used and it did have a hair crack in the dash. within 6 months this hair crack turned into more than a dozen throughout the dash with the area of the vent starting to fall through. could this be a hazard. *tr

The entire dashboard becomes brittle and falls apart. it is very thin to start. when i call around to buy a replacement dashboard at local junk yards,i'm told that if i can find one, i should play the lottery,that's letting me know that it is a large problem that affects all the trucks. i personally know 6 people with the same year trucks that all have the same problem. *tr

There was a news story on 5/1/07 about people's dash cracking and caving in on there 2001 dodge ram trucks. i own a 2000 dodge ram truck 1500 and have had the same issues with the dash cracking in several places. my father-in-law owns a 1999 dodge 2500 and has the same problem. i would like to know if dodge is aware of the problem and if the plan on having a recall to correct this problem. *tr

Dashboard cracking and falling in. in approximately late 2006, my dashboard developed minor cracks. soon the cracks got larger until pieces started falling into the dash cavity. i went to my dodge dealer with the concern about a recall, but there were no recalls for this symptom. dodge said it would pay 1/2 of the repair, a total of about $2,000 of which i would have to pay about $1,000. i could not afford this at the time. since then, the dash has continued to crumble apart. now, the air conditioner unit has a hole in the evaporator core. to repair this, the dash would have to be removed. you can imagine, the dash would be removed in pieces. i believe the crumbling dash has caused the hole in the evaporator core. dodge should replace the dash and replace the evaporator core too. what's next? the heater core, electrical components, headlights on a dark back road somewhere? dodge needs to take care of it's customers. *tr

The dashboard on my 2000 dodge ram 4x4 1500 truck has been cracking for quite some time. after researching the problem on the internet, i have observed that there are several people having the same problem. i too am now concerned that the dashboard breaking apart and potentially collapsing is a safety hazard and could affect the airbags and/or electrical systems of the truck possibly causing injury to any driver/occupants of the vehicle. i believe this is a problem that dodge should recall and repair. *tr

Complete collapse of plastic dashboard and gauge bezel. the top of the dashboard had so many stress cracks that there were no gaping holes in the top. it was possible to access all of the wiring through the top of the dashboard. this seemed to be a safety issue as there was no structural integrity to the dashboard now if the airbags deployed. *ak

The dashboard on my 2000 dodge pickup truck has cracked and fallen in in several places. i have read articles where people have had electrical problems such as driving at night and the lights go out etc. read several articles stating that the problem is wide spread and dodge needs to have a recall. i wanted to write and complain as it appears as though there could possibly be a danger involved with the dash board breaking. not sure when the majority of the cracks happened so i'm estimating in the fields below. *tr

Upper dashboard is cracking. the first crack appeared in 2004 and has since increased in size to 6". the second major crack appeared in may 2006 and has split to 7". the second split goes right into the airbag enclosure. *nm
