When you try to start car it is not connecting

I was riding down a busy highway and doing 55mph my car started to stall and just cut off, i couldn't get over to the slow lane alot of traffic. it cutoff and i had to get out the car and wave other cars off so they wouldnt hit me. as i got to a safe area from help of another driver the check engine light was on. i cut the car off and called my husband and he said after 10 to try and start it back up and it did it crunk back up and i drove slowly home with hazard lights on and when i got home and cut the car off i let it sit for 10 minutes again and when i turned it back on the check engine light was off. this was scary for me and when i researched this problem it shows it's a recall for a crankshaft position sensor but my car is not in the recall and i cant understand why not this could have cause me and my family to have died because of this dodge need to include all dodge journeys as i see alot of people are having this issue my mileage is 68000.

The engine just shut off while driving.. no warning, no lights just off. loss power steering, lights, all power. luckily was able to glide over to side of road and was able to put car in park and hit engine on button and it started up as normal.

Vehicle nearly stalls at highway speeds. total lossof power. turn vehicle off and restarts. taken to dealer and found to be bad crank sensor.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge journey. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to san leandro chrysler dodge jeep ram srt (1444 marina blvd, san leandro, ca 94577, (510) 254-3294), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the contact stated that the failure was similar to nhtsa campaign number: 16v461000 (steering). the failure mileage was 62,292.

Vehicle simply turned off on its own while i was driving. i had just began accelerating from a stop light and in the midst of a turn when the vehicle failed. after stopping then the check engine light illuminated. i was stuck at a large intersection for a few minutes as trying to turn the vehicle back on resulted in it just kind of jerking/stuttering initially. eventually i was able to turn it back on and drive a bit down the road when it turned off again but at least i made it to a business' parking lot. i had the vehicle towed to a repair shop and they could not find an issue. no error codes and would not cut off on them as it did me. i still had them replace the crankshaft sensor as the technician said that is usually the issue when a car cuts off during driving.

My 2016 dodge journey experienced a crankshaft position sensor "a" circuit malfunction (obd code p0335) while i was driving, resulting in an engine stall and total loss of power. nearly resulted in a crash. i've since observed from other drivers that this is a very common failure on the dodge journey, and a serious safety issue. a recall for this problem (safety recall s89 / nhtsa 16v-907) was issued in february 2017, but applies only to a limited number of vehicles built from may to july 2016. based on my own experience and that of other owners as reported online, i believe the issue is more widespread than the nhtsa apparently believes, and i suggest that the existing recall be expanded considerably.

While driving my journey will stall and i lose power steering and brakes with no warning. it also randomly happens when stopping. this has happened while sitting in traffic at a red light and when it turns green my car doesn't move. had to put it in park and restarted with no issues. this happened when stopping at a stop sign. had to put it in park and restart. this happened when slowing down to turn left. lost all power steering and brakes. almost had a head on collision and rear ended with 2 children in the car. after i got the car to stop i had to put it in park and start. every time this issue happens i have to put it in park and it starts right back up. i have taken to the dealership twice, same issues and they say nothing is wrong because they are not getting an error code.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge journey. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. on some occasions the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the failure recurred several times. the camshaft sensor was replaced by an independent mechanic however, the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken to the landers chrysler dodge jeep ram dealer, located at 315 e goodman rd, southaven, ms 38671, where the camshaft sensor was replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the contact was not concerned that the repair was not sufficient to fix the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

2016 dodge journey power shuts off while driving on a city street. replaced once already and same code came up: crankshaft. this will be the second time replacing it in under six months.

Car was driving when the engine turned off. lost all power steering and ability to brake. this is happened two times today. i have read forums where older models have had this same problem with recalls to the ignition switch. this vehicle is unsafe to drive.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge journey. the contact stated that the vehicle completely shut off while driving 25 mph. in addition, the check engine indicator illuminated, the power steering seized, and the brakes stopped working. the contact steered the vehicle to the side of the road and it rolled to a stop. the vehicle was towed to fred martin superstore (3195 barber rd, barberton, oh 44203, (330) 753-4444) where it was diagnosed that the crankshaft position sensor failed. the dealer confirmed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 42,194. *bf consumer stated there are recalls on other 2016 dodge journeys for problems with the crankshaft sensor. i think they need to include other models. *jb

I was driving my 2016 dodge journey crossroad and the abs lights came on and then i felt my car jerk like it was going to stall. i tried to get off the freeway and my car stalled out. i put it in drive and it would stall again. it sounded like the engine was going to fall out of my car. it would stall out even in reverse. it would only run in park. the tow truck driver said it sounds like the crank shaft or transmission. my car is only 3yrs old and well taken care of. no check engine light came on, the scanner wouldn't read any error codes. i am currently waiting on the mechanic to look at it this weekend, my 9month old niece and i almost died by being rear ended by traffic coming off the off ramp.

Car is losing power. red lightning bolt, car and engine light on

For the past week, while taking my children to school, on a residential street, the car stalls. i will be on the road and go to slow down because i am coming up on a car at the stop sign and the car stalls out. i have to put it in park, turn it off, and then turn it back on again. again, this happens every day.

Vehicle was in reverse. as soon as the gas was pressed the engine stalled out. we were pulling out from a parking spot when it happened. this is now the fourth instance in 4 weeks this has happened. clearly chrysler hasn't found all its vehicles produced with this problem simply because the vin# says it should be fine

Vehicle was in drive when the engine cut out. all control of the vehicle was lost. this has happened twice within one week

Takata recall- will not shift past 40 mph

Vehicle stalls randomly. mostly at low speeds or slowing down.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge journey. on several occasions, while driving approximately 45-60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that there may have been a failure with the fuel pump sending unit. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. rick hendrick dodge chrysler jeep ram (1468 savannah hwy, charleston, sc 29407, (843) 352-6931) was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v907000 (engine and engine cooling). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 104,000.

The car was in motion on a city street the first time the engine just turned off then we where on the highway with big rigs behind and on sides when engine just suddenly shut off it was my husband driving the first time andwe had our kids in the back and a friend also it was a very frightening experience i told my huband dont panic push the starter button to turn off the car because u couldn't give it gas because engine was off but car still on in gear then thankfully the first time we it was not busy at the time we my husband pushed the start button and car was in off mode and then waited a few minutes before turning car back on by pressing the starter button and then we proceeded to enter the highway and about two miles down you feel a pull and the engine turned off again at speed from 75 to quick decrease in speed he veered off to the shoulder with cars and big rigs around us to the shoulder and pushed the ignition button to the off position and waited a few mins prayed and the car started after pushing the ignition button took it to the dealer the next day as that was night and it took a day for the dealership to say the car was fine it might be..exact words the engine crank shaft but it was working fine for the techs so it was at my choice to have it changed or not. it seemed to be working fine. the engine light that had turned on after the engine shut off was off so i decided it was just a glitch and car was ok. here i am 2 weeks later and the car keeps doing the same thibg on the highway and street it is aweful, i have a all power train warrantee and the dealership says the engine crankshaft is not a part covered by warrantee please help others not get seriously injured or even die from a crash due to this not to detectable defect.

The reverse has quit working and the radio goes in and out and changes on own and turns volume up and down keys pop up not detected while driving

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge journey. while driving 60 mph, the engine stalled. the contact was able to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road. the vehicle was towed to glenbrook dodge chrysler jeep (100 w coliseum blvd, fort wayne, in 46805) where it was diagnosed that the crank sensor harness plugs needed to be replaced and the throttle body needed to be cleaned. the vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v907000 (engine). the approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

Vehicle is shutting off while driving. on multiple occasions.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge journey. while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. when the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle stalled in the middle of an intersection. the contact attempted to pull the vehicle to the side of the road prior to the failure. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. cornerstone mitsubishi (580 main street, wilmington, massachusetts, 01887) and lawless chrysler dodge jeep ram (196 lexington street, woburn, massachusetts 01801) were contacted about the failure. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the crankshaft sensor (dtc) was a potential cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 58,000.

During rush hour, i was on the way to pick up my daughter from day care. as i slowed down into the turning/merge lane at an intersection, my car just turned off without prior warning. i came to a stop and attempted a restart, but it would not allow a restart until the 6th try. my hazard lights would not turn on, so i had to wave angry drivers to go around me. it was very stressful because i was afraid of being rear-ended while waiting for it to restart so i could move out of harm's way. i purchased this vehicle, brand new, in april 2016. i didn't have problems with it until it was 2 years old. for the first year, i even commuted to work 3 hours daily. now, i am afraid to drive it 3 miles. the engine will simply turn off while driving. we researched it online and found it was most likely a camshaft or crankshaft sensor issue. even after having both sensors replaced, the problem has continued. mechanics are at a loss because the problem is intermittent. sometimes, i can drive it a few days in a row without any issue. i simply cannot believe that my particular vin was not part of the recall to replace the sensors and that there seems to be no solution to this dangerous vehicle. i cannot drive my 2-year-old car anywhere for fear of an accident!

While the vehicle is in motion on the highway the check engine light and traction control light appear. when this happens, the vehicle loses all power and brakes. at this point i am unable to accelerate to move to a safe area where the car needs to be turned off and restarted. once the vehicle is turned off and back on the check engine light stays lit and the traction control light will turn off momentarily. upon driving the vehicle again, the traction control light will turn back on and the previous steps need to be repeated.

My acceleration doesn't work well, i have to make sure there is a lot of space to pull in traffic, other wise i will get rear ended because the car doesn't move fast enough, it just stalls.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge journey. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. the contact was forced to turn on the emergency lights and depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. in addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated as the vehicle was restarted. the contact drove to freedom chrysler dodge jeep ram by ed morse (815 e camp wisdom rd, duncanville, tx 75116, 972-427-4019) where she was informed that the crankshaft and the other wiring needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. a year later, while driving 55 mph, the vehicle shut off again without warning. the contact turned on the emergency lights and depressed the brake pedal, but the failure continued. the contact restarted the vehicle and continued to drive. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and provided a case number. the contact was informed to take the vehicle back to the dealer. upon taking the vehicle back to the same dealer, the contact was informed of had two other unknown and unrelated recalls on the vehicle. the dealer stated that the failure was again due to the crankshaft; however, the repair would not be covered under warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 32,000.

Driving my daughter to school this morning, slowed from 25 mph for upcoming stop sign. lost all power and steering. all electrical components in the vehicle were blank. seemed a bit difficult to stop but not sure if that was a brake issue. stored vehicle. put it in park. lights on components came back on immediately and button start indicator still lit in run position. stepped on brakes and pushed the button and the vehicle started fine. no issues on return home. almost exactly 2 hours later tried to take my son to school. hit unlock button on keys, no response. tried multiple tonnes and any/all buttons- no response. used "valet" key to unlock door. no component lights or indicators came on. left the drivers door open, opened hood, looked around, no obvious problems. shook battery cables- all tight. closed hood hazard lights started flashing. got in and pressed on the brakes, pushed start button and vehicle started. did not drive it at that time. barely 2 hours later i started the vehicle too drive to work. let it warm up for about 3 minutes, then took city streets. about 1 mile into the drive i stopped for a red light. vehicle again lost all power, no lights on components, nothing. had a vehicle coming up behind me so quickly put it in park and restarted the vehicle. oil indicator light came on. looked at vehicle info and temps were all within mid-range. got to work (approximately 1 more mile away) and turned vehicle off. i have started it on each break (every 2-3 hours) and none oil light is on and no other issues have occurred. i bought this vehicle on january 5th, have driven it practically every day, put almost 400 miles on it (now at 14,807) and no issues until today. scared to drive it now but must get to work to pay for it!

I was driving 65 mph in a middle lane on the freeway when my engine suddenly stalled out. i lost the ability to steer or brake, and my vehicle quickly lost speed. i barely managed to get to the side of the freeway before it completely stopped. i called my husband to come get me, and he managed to restart it and drove it home while i followed in our truck. about 5 miles down the road, the engine stalled out on him. we took it to the dodge dealership, and the mechanic who took it for a test drive freaked out when the problem happened to him with my husband in the passenger seat. however, they found nothing wrong with the vehicle and refuse replace any of the recalled parts from 2016 dodge journey's relating to the engine stalling out because they insist my car was manufactured a couples of weeks before the recall goes into effect. my concern is for my three toddlers who were sitting in the back seat and nearly got killed. i have called dodge repeatedly about this, but they haven't fixed it yet or given me a reason why my one year old car is so dangerous.

Wife was backing out of driveway and engine stopped / stalled as she entered the road and started to turn while backing. radio and electrical systems were working. had to push starter button to off so i could start it again. attempting to start it already in the run position failed with an error i don't remember and did not write it down at the time as she woke me up to tell me what happened and i went out to driveway and check. unknown reason why and have not contacted dealer yet. reporting this here as it may seem to be a trend after doing a google search. has not happened before with this vehicle.

The car cut out traveling down the highway with engine light fault and lose of power, brakes and steering. this is a common problem with the crankshaft position sensor (code p0335) and needs dodge to recall on this and fix this lethal fault of complete lose of control at speed. yesterday was the 3rd time this has happened and i had my family in the car this time...updated 10/23/17 *bf updated 10/25/17 *bf updated 10/30/2017*js updated 11/2/2017*js

I was driving on the highway, at about 60mph, was slowly the car down because i was going to be making a right turn. out of nowhere my steering wheel started to lock up, as did the brakes. i had no control of my car. my car came to a stop by itself and i did not have control of it again until i turned it off and restarted it. i was almost in a very serious accident

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge journey. the contact stated that there was an internal failure and the radio shorted out. the dealer (lawton chrysler jeep dodge ram, 215 se interstate dr, lawton, ok 73501, (580) 350-6000) diagnosed that it was due to a hardware failure, but provided no solution. the dealer advised the contact to notify sirius xm. the contact notified sirius xm and was informed to notify the warranty company to service the radio. the radio failure was not resolved. the vehicle was recently purchased less than 30 days ago and the dealer provided no reason as to why they had not completed the recall repair for nhtsa campaign number: 16v907000 (engine and engine cooling) prior to selling the vehicle. the contact was uncertain if there was also an internal electrical failure with other components besides the radio. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 17,300. parts distribution disconnect.

Engine shut off on 7/7/2017 appox 2:40 pst the vehicle was stopped at a stop light on a busy surface street when the light turned green i pressed the gas to move through the light and there was no power coming from the engine. i was able to pull over, put the car in park and turn the engine off. i push button started the engine and the car operated as normal. on 7/8/2017 approx 1:30 pst i was completing a left hand turn when the vehicle stalled with no power coming from the engine. i put my flashers on, put the car in park, turned off the engine. within seconds i push button started the vehicle and it started up normally.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge journey. while driving 70 mph on the expressway, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle on the first attempt; however, the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (haddad dodge, 3000 harris rd, bakersfield, ca, 93313), but they were unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted or made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v907000 (engine). the failure mileage was approximately 21,000.

My vehicle randomly shuts off. loses all engine power, power steering, etc. has been at the dealer 3 different times and no one can find the problem. once we were stopped at a light, 2 times we were pulling out of parking spots, and this last time my vehicle was in motion on the street and the engine shut off.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge journey. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle surged and the service engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle lost all power and was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the cam position sensor needed to be replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 2,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge journey. occasionally, while driving approximately 45-70 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently and then stalled. the vehicle was taken to towbin dodge llc (275 auto mall dr, henderson, nv 89014, (702) 558-3800) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to verify the failure. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v907000 (engine and engine cooling). the vehicle was repaired per the recall; however, the failure recurred. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 30. *tt the consumer stated the vehicle began trying to stall out then turned off while driving. at time the vehicle would not start. *js

The car stalled out with no warning on the highway. luckily i was going slow because i was going on an off ramp to get onto the highway. the car siezed up completely i had no control i barely was able to limp it into a parking lot. i was lucky. the car restarted with no problems after that. i took it to the dealer and they spent 3 full days diagnosing the problem. they found nothing. i looked online and there are similiar complaints about this vehicle. and the same thing is said over and over again.........nothing is known about the problem thus nothing can be done about the problem. meanwhile i am stuck driving a car that could at any time do the same thing again. it is like playing russian roulette. i do not want to drive this car again i do not want this car anymore.

While driving my brand new dodge journey just purchased almost 2 months ago, the engine stalls out suddenly while driving. this has happened 3 times now, with the last time being on a major highway almost causing a major accident. the engine shuts off, steering wheel and brakes lock and car just coasts to a stop. after a minute the car can be restarted. no lights come on to signify a problem during this time, it just stalls out completely causing a major potential for an accident. brought to the dealership who says they can find nothing wrong with the car. i have 3 children and this happened with 1 in the car, putting us in serious danger.

I bought this car with 11 miles on it . a couple weeks ago i was going about 30 mph and i stopped at a 4 way stop . i did a complete stop the engine turned off the steering wheel locked and i was stuck in the intersection luckily i didn't get hit . i had to put it back in park and it turned on . scary situation . today i attenpted to turn on the ignition and it just turned and turned for 30 seconds and car didn't start. i turned it off and tried again the car started but check engine light is on still don't know what's wrong will take to dealer asap

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge journey. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the contact stated that the electronic throttle control warning indicator was illuminated. the contact was able to drive to a nearby parking lot. the vehicle was taken to cecil atkission motors (located at 2630 e main st, uvalde, tx 78801, (830) 278-4124) where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 56,237.

I had 2016 dodge journey bought from superstition dodge in mesa arizona. the engine shuts off by itself while braking and one time while driving. when engine shuts off the car looses power steering and brakes. this could cause fetal accident and may be death. i contacted dodge tempe arizona. i went to them after it happen first time and they said no error code and it could be a glitch!! then when it happen for second and third time and i was about to make an accident, i contacted them again and contacted dodge company. they open a case # 29588743. and tempe dodge took again for over a week and they were not able to find the root cause. they want to give me the car back and i am afraid about my family safety and people and cars in the street. i contacted dodge again and the case manager name is [xxx] . she said there nothing she can do and she wants to close the case. they do not care and they want to give the car back to me knowingly that the car could have an accident again if the engine shuts off and the car fail to brake and steer. what happen is when driving, sometimes "3 times" when brake "2 times" or when slowing while running "1 time" the engine shuts off and the ignition button still shows run and ac is still working on the battery. when engine shuts off no brakes so car keeps moving and steering is very hard to control because of loss of power. it is life threatening and could cause death to pedestrians and or passengers. please help, i do not want my family to get injured or die and i do not want people in the street to get injured or die. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Vehicle stalls randomly while decellerating, braking, stopped or driving. all electrical components remain operational (a/c. radio, gauges, etc.) but braking and steering become difficult. you must come to a stop, park and restart the vehicle. this has happened three times now, twice to myself and once to my wife. two dealerships have found no issue so nothing can be done. i am at the end of my options and fear for the safety of my family. please advise me of my options before one of us is hurt or worse.

Takata recall on 4 or more occasions my vehicle has shut down while driving. this normally occurs when slowing down or after tapping the brake. the first time was about 2 months after purchasing the vehicle after leaving work and stopping at a stop light. it has died while slowing down to take a curve and also on a busy highway out of town tapping brakes in heavy traffic going about 50mph and almost getting rear ended. each time i would have to come to a complete stop, put it in park and restart the vehicle.
