The radio will randomly turn stations and just completely go black. the a/c turns itself on and off. the airbag lights keep randomly coming up and then go away.this all happens rather i'm driving fast, slow, or stopped at a light and has happened since purchasing the car a year ago. i'm also having an issue with the check engine light coming on with it being the p0420. i only use mid grade gas and only from exxon or chevron. i also make sure the gas cap is on tightly. the check engine light will be on one day and not the next.
My vehicle has shut off without warning three times in the last month. all three times were at low speeds while pulling into a driveway. i then put it in park, pressed my ignition button to off, then pushed the ignition button with my foot on the brake and it started all three times on the first attempt. when it shut off, i lost power steering all three times, so thankfully i was at low speed. i do currently have code p0016 when i scan it with my reader. i had a local mechanic change 1 of my camshaft position sensors because that is what autozone recommended. that didn't solve anything. then i made an appointment at dodge of bloomington, mn to have a lugnut repaired and my check engine light further diagnosed. they replaced the lugnut but told me they didn't have time left in the day to look at light, and said no rental vehicles were available, which is odd considering the 500 vehicles in their lot. so i made an appointment at coon rapids chrysler and they dug around for three hours, told me they couldn't find anything but charged me $500. again no rentals here either. how far do we dig, i have 297,000 miles but other than this recent issue, vehicle has been good. happy to include anything extra you would like. i did have coon rapids chrysler replace a camshaft in spring of 2019 when engine was ticking. that solved the ticking. i did notice my tick is back to about 75% of the sound it was in the spring after my november 29th attempted diagnosis at coon rapids. typing on my phone, so i apologize for a few missed capitalizations. first shutoff was november 15th, recent one was december 15th and then one in between.
Our 2014 dodge journey's engine is consuming oil with no warning. with no warning light/alarm or puddles of oil on the ground, i had to add over 3 quarts of oil to the engine. due to this, the engine has failed beyond repair. this was presented in the manner of harsh clanking and banging within the engine while driving down the freeway. after having it towed to a local shop, it was found that metal shards were contained within the oil filter. the vehicle now doesn't run correctly even when not in motion.
I bought my vehicle in 2017. before a year of owning it i got into a wreck because my cruise control wouldnt turn off and instead started accelerating more. then i started having issues with my catalytic converter took it to the dealership and they said there was no way. shortly after the rest of my systems started to go along with it now it's been about 6 months and i have a vehicle that can no longer move or so anything. once my catalytic converter went out it started clogging the rest of my system. as of september 2019 my engine is now completely gone because of all the back up not being processed by my catcon
My cruise control quit working and the traction control light came on and it wouldn't turn off. the doors started locking and unlocking by themselves. i went to church and stopped at food city afterwards. i started the vehicle and put it in reverse and i can smell something weird and it was like the brake was stuck and it was holding back. i proceeded because i was in traffic and needed to move. acceleration was limited but i made it home which was less than a mile. when stopped there was smoke rolling out from under the front passenger side area and there was fluids running all over the ground. this was a very dangerous situation because i had my children in the car. there is a scrubbing and pecking noise but it sounds like it's coming from the rear end. i have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. check engine light is on but it's been on. i've had it checked and shows nothing wrong and had it turned off and it continues to come on. alternator has been replaced as well as new battery. it seems to have electrical issues with the doors locking and unlocking. so dangerous! affects steering and control of vehicle and could cause a fire and not be able to get out of the vehicle. after seeing all of the reviews and problems with these vehicles they all need to be recalled because none of them are safe because it's obvious that the dealerships don't even know how to fix them. if they attempt one issue there are even more issues that occur. the repairs are costly and this is happening way too often with too many journeys. then we are stuck with a lemon to pay for and no vehicle because of these costly repairs along with the dangers imposed. please recall these dangerous and repair costly vehicles! they don't need to be on the roads. problems started not long after purchase but they have escalated and have gotten more serious, dangerous, and costly.
I went into my church for about 2 hours and came back out and started the car to let it cool down for my kids. as it sat idling all of a sudden my check engine light is on, my etc light is flashing, and my esc off light is on. shut it off and turned it back on and the engine light was on. started driving and the etc light started flashing and esc off light came on. my car slowed down from 60mph on the highway and i couldn't speed back up. i had to pull over and turn car off and back on 3 times to make it back home. to make it home i had to put cruise control on and hope i didn't get behind someone going slower than me because all the lights would come back on.
Tl* the contact owned a 2014 dodge journey. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle began to shake violently and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact also noticed that oil was leaking under the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to courtesy chrysler dodge ram of superstition springs (6130 e auto park dr, mesa, az 85206, (480) 569-2986) where it was diagnosed that the left cylinder head failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the manufacturer not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000. the vin was invalid.
Since owning the vehicle, bought brand new, every so often while driving the radio and all the lights would turn off and then come back on. recently when driving my check engine light came on. at that point it was a friday night my mechanic was already closed so when he opened back up on tuesday i called to bring the car in and on my way there the car started making a horrible noise. while driving down a busy road i felt the acceleration give and i could not get it to accelerate so i started to make way off the highway when the engine just died. had it towed to my mechanic where he cannot figure out why it died. there was no water, all the fluid levels were perfect. he was baffled as to how the engine could just die. he said he has never seen this happen for no reason. finally found an engine to replace it a month later, but that engine has 96,000 miles on it.
I've had my throttle body fail twice in 8 months. both while driving, it causes the car to not be able to accelerate. almost was in a horrible accident.
The air bag warning light is on. have to take it to a dealer to find out what's wrong. also the oil filter manifold cracked and leaked oil. had to get it replaced.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge journey. the contact heard loud, abnormal noises coming from the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. smolich motors (1865 ne hwy 20, bend, or 97701, (541) 389-1177) diagnosed that the camshaft and lifters needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 15,000.
Like others on this site, i experienced a check engine light indicating a misfire on cylinder 3. i had the vehicle repaired under warranty at champion dodge in indianapolis, in. the shop stated they replaced the entire cylinder head due to a leaking valve. upon retrieving the repaired vehicle, the same issue immediately arose. i took the vehicle back to the shop and the shop is now surmising they received a defective part. i find it hard to believe the same issue occurred twice within a day due to a defective replacement part. either the shop did not replace the part, or chrysler has a serious problem with their cylinder heads. this issue appears to be common, was recognized by chrysler on the 2011-2013 models, but is now an issue with my 2014 model. i have contacted a customer care representative at chrysler who made one attempt to call and is never available.
Appears that the gasket between the engine and transmission is leaking oil. this vehicle is only 4 years old. i still owe alot of money on this vehicle and have changed the oil on a regular basis. now this !!!! not right !!!!
Engine light on: the issue is a design flaw in the head and cylinders of the 2014 v6 engine of the dodge journey 2014. the flaw allows burning fuel vapor to escape and cause burning and carbon around the cylinder head. the hazard here is the continued disintegration and carbon damage can cause the engine to lock up while driving.
There's a few recalls on my 2014 dodge journey awd sxt that i've called and they said they don't have the parts and to call back in a few months. i just called now and they gave me the loop around transferring me to the front then back to service where i was placed on hold and then it rang to the front desks number and i had to leave a voicemail. totally incompetent. this is at the dodge dealership in colorado springs. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge journey. while being operated at a low speed, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was towed to arrigo dodge chrysler jeep ram west palm beach (6500 okeechobee blvd, west palm beach, fl), but the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
On may 15, 2018, approximately 10 minutes after i cranked my vehicle and left for work my vehicle caught on fire. i was approaching a 4way stop in gaylesville al 35973 at intersection of highway 35 and highway 68. luckily there was a truck stopped in front of me and the driver jumped out telling me vehicle was on fire. before i ever got out of vehicle flames were shooting out from under the hood. the engine cover caught on fire and totaled out the vehicle it burnt the engine all the wiring the hood and front axles
These cars have massive oil leaks from bad seals on the oil cooler and filter housing assembly. this can cause your engine failure or a fire.
Vehicle was in motion and suddenly just shuts off without power to any of the hazard lights. it can get a lot of people killed with such a safety glitch. does it, then turns back on maybe after 10 to 40 mins of being off.
I own a 2014 dodge journey with about 51k miles on it. since yesterday, this vehicle has been shutting off and stalling while i am driving. the radio will flicker on and off and the instrument cluster will show all warning lights in a flashing manner, after a few seconds of that, the car will completely turn off while still in drive. on october 3rd, i was making a right turn, and the vehicle shut off mid turn. the brakes became stiff, lost the ability to steer the wheel and also lost functionality to my hazards. this morning, i was driving this same vehicle to my local dodge/chrysler dealership and the car once again shut off on me. this time i was in the process of taking off from a red light when the vehicle stopped in the middle of the intersection. again, i lost the ability to even use my hazards. i am going to have it towed to my local dealership within the next few hours.
My wife was driving our kids around town and the vehicle stalled out as they were approaching a stop sign. no check engine light or any other indicators were triggered. the vehicle appeared to still be running and she could not shut the vehicle off immediately. she eventually lost power steering as well. after a few minutes she was able to start the vehicle back up again and it functioned normally as expected and she was able to drive home. we were expecting some sort of light to come on so we could get a troubleshooting code but nothing. i researched online and was alarmed to find out that this problem seems to be somewhat common and there was a recall back in 2011 for 2010 dodge journey models that were stalling out. i have not seen evidence of a recall for later models. i am concerned that this could happen on the open road like a highway where the vehicle is going at high rates of speed and stalls out causing my wife to lose control of the vehicle. i plan to take the vehicle to a dodge dealership but from what i have seen online it seems no obvious resolution has been mentioned. i am very concerned at this point.
Vehicle shuts off while driving it. car starts back up and running fines. it has shut off going through and intersection. lucky no traffic was coming from any direction. car will start back up every time. have seen lots of complaints about this vehicle and issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge journey. after the vehicle had been serviced for an oil change, the contact drove home and observed oil leaking from the vehicle. the dealer diagnosed that the oil filter adapter/housing failed and needed to be repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and had the vehicle repaired. the failure mileage was 59,000.
Since 2015 this car has drained approximately 5 batteries. i purchased this automobile brand new 11/11/14 with 14 miles on it. this car was first taken to orange park chrysler jeep dodge ram 7233 blanding blvd., (904) 777-5500 in jacksonville, fl because of a drained battery and the car has to be started by pop-a-lock per my state farm insurance provider. the record shows that this occurred approximately three (3) times. each time the car was returned with supposedly a new battery with no problem found with the last incident on 11/6/16. i relocated to north augusta, sc and on 11/23/16 and on 12/12/16 my car battery was drained again, state farm roadside assistance (all american road se 706-631-3580) was called once again and the car was taken to bob richards chrysler dodge jeep ram 1666 jefferson davis highway in graniteville, sc (803) 349-4910. this dealership stated they found no problems, and after keeping the car the entire week end returning it to me "fixed". 1/9/17 this car will not start again, notified state farm roadside assistance they again referred me to all american roads se 706-631-3580 the car was jumped and started, but the "check engine" light remained on. 1/10/17 the car will not start again and i called chrysler customer care where an appointment was set for the car to be serviced on thursday 1/12/17 @ 10:00 am with milton rueben chrysler dodge jeep ram 3508 washington road augusta, ga 30809. pease help me, i am 67 year old senior and don't know what to do. the vehicle was stationary each time.

We purchased a 2014 dodge journey on 8/04/2016 under the assumption that the vehicle was certified. we eventually got the dealer to agree for us to bring the vehicle back to be certified and address all the other concerns. we picked the vehicle up in ny, heading home to pa and the car caught on fire while driving on the highway with my wife, our only daughter, two youngest sons, and myself. we were stranded, the dealer and manufacture did nothing including the warranty company. although, the vehicle had factory, we just purchase the vehicle including "required warranty" for $2000, we were denied any assistance from dodge and the dealership. we have been in constant contact with the dealer via different mediation and to this day, we are still on our own with out a vehicle that is safe to drive. *tr
I took my vehicle in to the dealership for the recall to update the computer. after having the recall fixed in may 2016, i was turning left from a complete stop at a stop light and the vehicle started missing, it would not accelerate properly, and the engine light started flashing. this was on 6/2/16. the vehicle was running really rough, as though it was going to stall. i came to a complete stop at the next traffic light , the engine light quit flashing & appeared solid. it stopped missing, but there was a definite lack of power and acceleration capability. i got the vehicle back to dealer on 6/3/16. again unable to recreate incident, so they reran the computer update from the recall, cleared codes & turned check engine light off. on 7/2/16, i was once again sitting completely stopped at a traffic light getting ready to turn left. while idling at stop light check engine light started flashing again & the vehicle started running rough. i was turning into a parking lot for a shopping center. as i attempted to pull into a parking spot the vehicle stalled half in the parking spot. i put the vehicle in park and was able to start it back up and pull the rest of the way in the spot. after being in the store about an hour, we came back out, the vehicle started, but again had a definite lack of power. after driving it less than a mile, it stalled out again while slowing down to come to a stop. we were able to start the vehicle back and get it back home, still with a definitely lack of power, and park it for the holiday weekend. after the holiday, on 7/5/16, i took the vehicle back to the dealership. once again they can't find anything wrong, have cleared codes, turned off check engine light & advised me to come pick it up. i chatted with dodge customer service and they claim to be unaware of the issue or any resolution. transcript attached.

Key fob doesnt always unlock/lock/start with push start, usually its delayed or vehicle will say vehicle is running but the ignition wont kick on start with push start. will be dropping my daughter off at school and with an open of the door the vehicle signals that the key has left the car. i have replaced the key fob and batteries and continue to have this issue. biggest concern is not being able to start the vehicle when needed or being locked out. also, the touch screen and radio dials don't always work on steering wheel.

Hello my name is [xxx] and i a single mother of two small children. i have been the owner of a dodge journey for a little over a year and i have already received two recalls on my vehicle. with these risks come serious consequences and i do not feel safe driving my children in this vehicle. i have contacted the dealership and they told me they are unable to provide me with a loaner vehicle. at this time i am highly upset because basically i have to play russian roulette with mine and my children's live every time i drive my only mode of transportation. i do not think it is appropriate for a company to knowingly allow anyone especially children to drive around in a defective vehicle that can at any given moment cause serious injury or even death without providing an alternative until the problem can be fixed. i am very upset and am considering looking into getting a lawyer to defend my rights as a consumer. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

One of the biggest problem is the back doors not locking when in drive like they use to. my sons door didn't lock like normal (inside door child lock was locked too) but worse of all my car didn't even show that the door was open in the back and i didn't hear him fall out and it open and he fell out while driving, my check engine has been on and my outside temp on car dash reads 185 all the time, it loses power while driving, the radio also turns volume up and down and channels changes by itself. my wipes back and front sometimes go and don't turn off. my right fender is no longer on the car because when i got a flat aaa lifted the car from the under carriage and the fender just came off on one side like bolts weren't even place on there i bought this car for safety for myself and kids and this car is not safe and dodge won't help and i'm very upside down on it, im a recently divorced mom waiting for disability for my back. i can't afford to trade it with more money down. i paid a down 6500 and pay 400. per month and never thought i would have to worry that my kid would fall out while child lock was on and when the doors should lock, . now this new recall with the engine makes me worried to drive my three kids to school or anywhere for that matter.
