I received a recall notice for my vehicle back in 2013 or 2014 regarding the wireless ignition node (win) module. chrysler recall number is: l25 nhtsa recall number is: 11v-139. recall date is: march 1, 2011. i have had my vehicle completely shut off on several different occasions which has almost gotten me in a wreck. i have been fortunate to be able to get out of the way of traffic but the last two times this has happened i was barely able to avoid an accident. one time i was driving on a toll road in austin, texas and going over a bridge and had to pull as close to the center cement wall as possible and restart my vehicle and hurry to get out of traffic before i was hit. this last time that it happened i was driving on my way to work on again a busy 4 lane road and was able to pull into an entrance of an apartment complex and restart my vehicle. both times it has been a close call. my local dodge dealership keeps telling me that there is currently no replacement part available. this is becoming very frustrating and also very scary at the same time. can you please advise me as to when this replacement part might be available. like it said i have. *tr

I've already complained about this issue at least 3 times. when trying to start the car it will not start. nothing happens. the only ways to get the car started at that point is: moving the battery around, removing and putting the battery cables on the battery (to reset it), and put the car in neutral and turn the key. so you tell me, does this car need to be recalled??? i'm still paying on this pos (piece of [xxx]) which makes no sense. i need this car recalled and money be returned. i've been complaining about this car since 2009, will i ever get assistance??? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

My cars check engine light came on, had it hooked up to a find out what the code was. came back the tipm was defected. since i purchased this car back in 2010 i have had recurring problems with the car not starting at will. sometimes after sitting for an undisclosed time it will restart only to shut it off and have it happen again. i was told the tipm may very well be responsible for the problem. after contacting chrysler they stated they have no knowledge of the issue

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while reversing from a parking spot, the engine stalled. in addition, the check engine warning light illuminated prior to the failure. the vehicle was able to restart. the failure occurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition win module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was included under the nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system) but the part was not available. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 82,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving at 40 mph, the engine stalled. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received a notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system) and believed the failure was related to the recall. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000. updated 09/03/15*lj updated 10/26/2017*cn

After starting up the vehicle, the radio and information display will not function at all. when the vehicle is then shut off the battery will drain rather quickly( within 8 hours) and kill the battery. if the battery is disconnected and then reconnected the radio and display will then work. this happens frequently depending on how many time the vehicle is started and stopped.my mechanic has traced it to the tipm ,totally integrated power module. *tr

Tl* the contact owned a 2009 dodge journey. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. as a result, the contact lost control of the vehicle, swerved into the next lane, and crashed into a tractor trailer. the air bags failed to deploy. it was unknown if a police report was filed and if any injuries were reported. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

Vehicle will stall without warning for no apparent reason at any speed. on oct 3, 2014 i was taking my child to school when the car stalled in an intersection. after the light turned green i proceeded to the intersection and stalled upon entering the intersection. i was able to put the car in neutral and restart within ~10 seconds. this issue repeated itself at least twice while en route from my home to a nearby service shop (foltz auto) which determined there was no issue the battery or ignition. on 10/5/14 i took the vehicle to heritage chrysler (21234) and had the car serviced for two reasons: the main reason was the above issue and a secondary issue was the main odometer (not the trip odometer) at some point had reset itself leaving a display of an incorrect mileage much lower than the actual mileage. the dealer could not recreate the stalling issue or offer any solution, but noted that another electrical issue was causing the odometer to display an incorrect mileage; the fix was to replace the instrument cluster assembly. after having the instrument cluster replaced, the issue did not reoccur until 12/26/2014, when the car stalled three times without warning at ~40 mph, leaving the car completely "dead" each time, and once causing the car to veer quickly towards another car as i was in the process of turning the wheel around a slight curve when the car locked up. the car restarted in neutral and continued on in each incident until i was able to safely reach my home - i did not further drive the car. my concern is that the manufacturer knows, or show know, of multiple issues where this model and model year vehicle has randomly stalled without warning and can not offer a solution to the problem. consumers are left to guess which repairs to undertake at significant expense, while driving a car that could continue to have the same issues. *js

The vehicle wouldn't start was just making a clicking sound. had it towed to the dealer and they said it was the battery . replaced the battery drove home a week later same thing happened vehicle wouldn't start had it towed back to the dealer where is resides now they stated its the tipm module they wanted $1,500 for the parts and labor i just bought this vehicle from them in july 2014. they also stated they didn't know when the part would come in since its on back order. *tr

I have complained several times about these issues with this stupid car, and its crazy that im still paying for it!!! the car was purchased brand spanking new and i've been having the same [xxx] issues since day one. when i put the key fob in the starter switch the car goes dead. the only way the freaking car will start is by try to put the car in neutral. if that doesn't work then i move the battery around until i hear a click for a connection. if these don't work i disconnect the negative and positive on the battery. eventually the car will start after spending an hour or so trying to get it started. im disabled and truly have an extremely hard time with this car. this entire car should be recalled!!! the other issue is that the alarm doesn't work. once the alarm goes off, the key fob will not open the car and will not turn the alarm off. also the "key within the fob" doesn't open the car door when the alarm is on. all i can ask is that you help all of us who are having these crazy issues!!! do something [xxx]!!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I was driving along a 4 lane highway, hit a bump and the ignition turn off. i was in the inside lane and had to maneuver my vehicle across two lanes to the side of the road so i could put the vehicle in park so i could restart the car. *tr

I backed out of a parking spot and started to drive and the car shut off. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled and all of the cylinders ceased in the engine. the check engine and tire air pressure indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 161,414.

I'm writing to complain that my 2009 dodge journey has been issued a recall for the ignition switch.the vehicle will shut down completely. despite the fact this represents a significant safety hazard and this recall was initiated almost 7 months ago, chrysler still does not have the necessary parts to make the repair. i have contacted them on a number of occasions and they have no solution or can offer an alternative to driving this dangerous vehicle. we don't have the option to stop using the journey. what responsibility does chrysler have to make these ignition parts available in expeditious manner? i would assume there must be a time limit to make these recall repairs. every day i drive the journey is like driving a bomb-you never know when it will go off. *tr

I've completed a complaint form before (earlier this year) regarding serious issues with the engine. since purchasing the car the issues with the engine has never been fixed. when starting the car the engine will not turn over to start. some times when turning the key fob the engine has no sound and there are no lights on the dashboard. other times the engine will click 5 - 10 times before finally starting. there is also issues with the battery. since 2008 the battery has been replaced 5 or 6 times - something is draining the battery. i've brought the car to 2 separate dealers and a mechanic for these issues. the dealerships could not find why these things are happening. the mechanic thinks its the alternator or starter or definitely something between the ignition switch and the engine. *js

For almost a year the doesn't start when it doesn't want to i get in the car and everything lights up and the engine just clicks i've had the starter replaced the battery the some module with new keys the shifter and nothing has helped im at a loss the car has been towed more times than i can count i've been stuck with my children in dark parking lots far from home it happens way to much and the fact that they cant fix this problem is ridiculous no one should have to deal with this i have now been in a rental for 3 weeks im sick over this i lost my car in sandy and bought this stupid one to replace that and now im trying to fix my home and a car i pay cash for. *tr

While driving on the freeway @ about 70 mph suddenly the steering locked up and there was no power. while i was trying to merge over to the side of the freeway( i had to cross 3 lane, i was almost hit by multiple cars. i had no control of the car. i managed to get off to the side off the freeway and happened to look down to see the ignition key turned to the off position. i dont have any other keys attached to it because i had just had the starter replaced maybe 1 week before & was advised not to. i started the car thinking maybe it was a freak thing and it wouldnt happen again. it did 2 days later. this time i was approaching an intersection turning left on a green arrow. just as i started to turn the car turned off making it very difficult to turn and barely missed a group of people on the sidewalk where my car ended up before stopping. i had the car towed to the service center the dealership i bought the car from. this was not a dodge, chrysler, or jeep dealership either. i was told that rwi module had to be replaced and it was not covered under my warranty and dodge would not cover it either. while the car was being repaired i came across recall l25. but was told my vin number was not included in the recall. the car was in the repair shop for 5 days. it cost me over $600. the day i picked the car up i came across documentation of the expansion to the l25. i was then again told the vin was not part of the recall & an investigation was being done and eventually the vin would be in the recall but i could not be given a date as to when this would happen. i called dodge corporate offices and was told the same thing. i feel like i own a coffin on wheels. . all in all i have had this car in for repair for the key turning to the off position 3 times now. something needs to be done now before someone is seriously hurt or killed in a crash because of this defective part. *tr

The car stopped as i was driving. i was able to coast to the side of the road to wait for a tow. also, twice now the vehicle has not started, had to be towed once the other time it was at home. if i wait several hours the car will start again. when i call the dealership they said they are not aware of any issues and the car would have to be doing it when it is there for them to figure it out. when i call chrysler, the lady said that they are not aware of any issues with car. i told her when i went online that the computer was blowing up with people with the exact same issue. *tr

While pulling out of a parking lot onto street, the car stalled in the middle of the street. this is the second time in approximately a month this car has stalled. i do not remember the date of the first incident, so i did not enter it. this car was purchased used on march 3, 2014. after some research, i do believe there was a recall on the 2010 model regarding this issue, but do not know if this vehicle was included in that recall. my 5 year old son was with me when this happened today and thank goodness i was able to escape collision. *tr

Our car will not start all of a sudden for no reason. *tr

First incident was sometime in april 2014. while driving the engine stalled (turned off) three time daring that same day. i submitted an incident report to this office. called dodge corporate office and spoke to a representative named [xxx]. she help us get the local dealership fix the pcm flash throttle body, which the dealership stated was causing the problem. dodge has a recall on for this pcm problem on the 2010 and some 2009 journey models. my vin number was not covered according to dodge, but not vin numbers are stated on the recall notes. the second incident happen around a week an half after the first one and after the dealership say it was fixed and safe to drive. my wife was driving with the kid on board and while exiting the freeway, the engine stalled (turned off) and had to use the emergency brake to avoid hit other cars. called [xxx] at corporate and took car back to dealership. dealership now is saying the problem is the win module, which again is on the recall for the 2010 journey, but not on the 2009. asked dealership manager ([xxx]) if this would fix the problem. he stated he is not sure, but that is the next diagnostic step to take. i also asked how much it would cost to fix he stated $700 and they would not cover it, because my vin number is not covered under the recall. [xxx] at corporate was trying to reduce price, but dealership is not willing to work with dodge corporate. misty authorized a rental car, i'm having to pay for the insurance incase i have an accident. this needs to be investigated and all 2008, 2009, and 2010 need to be covered under the recall. all models are having the same problems. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Car has overheated several times. i have replaced hoses and coolant reserve tank twice temp got so hot that it melted holes in it, brakes on front hash been replaced 6 times since 2014 also replaced rotors twice replace brakes on rear twice. *dt

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning causing the contact to crash into a ditch. the air bags failed to deploy. the police report was filed. the contact sustained a concussion which required medical attention. the failure had occurred on another occasion. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v139000 (electrical system) but the contact was not sure if the recall was related to the stalling failure. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

I have been having trouble with 2009 dodge journey sxt overheating. been to dodge dealer 4 times. the first 2 times, they could find nothing wrong with it. 3rd time they said it was a pinhole in the water pump. so timing belt and water pump and battery were replaced. it has now overheated for a 4th time after spending $1000 and been stranded twice with young children in another state. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled but was able to be restarted. on a second occasion while making a u-turn, the vehicle stalled. the failure occurred on several occasions. the contact mentioned that the failure was getting progressively worse. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on two occasions where the failure was unable to be replicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 23,000.

The vehicle will not start intermittently. after several costly repairs the issue persists and the dealer and manufacturer deny knowledge of the problem or report that they cannot duplicate it. this seems disingenuous since all car sites i evaluated prior to this complaint list this same issue in abundance. i also have had to repair or replace the brake systems and am currently receiving warning lights for the esp and bas. the model year is poorly manufactured and the manufacturer is not taking responsibility. it has also been extremely dangerous (multiple incidence of stranding in the middle of winter without heat up to 2 hours with small children after which the car will miraculously start.) *tr

The car will not start. it comes with a faulty win module that has given many consumers grief. the car has left me stranded before due to the same issue. *tr

Service inspection found 3 of 4 engine mounts had failed this was found before any traffic incident. *tr

I was driving on the highway, with my daughter in the car, and my truck completely lost power. i was luckily able to pull over and restart the vehicle. it was very scary and my life and my daughter's life were in jeopardy. this happens approximately one every 3 weeks. today, 11-25-2013, my fiance was driving around a roundabout, the car died and she was hit lightly from behind. also, the controls on my driver's side door do not work properly. they rarely roll down the windows correctly and right now, the back driver's side window is down. i had to duct tape plastic on the door. i am taking it to the dealership tomorrow to try and fix these problems. i just don't know why this series of 2009 journeys were not recalled. we are scared to even drive the journey especially because of the lost power issue and with really no money to have it diagnosed. *tr

On multiple occasions over the past few years my 2009 dodge journey will not start. there is no warning and it's become a gamble to drive my car and risk getting stranded somewhere. the vehicle will just click when i turn the keyfob and sounds like a dead battery, but all lights, radio, windows etc work fine. i have replaced the battery 3x as suggested by my local dodge dealership but they fail to identify why this is a recurring problem. i have also been waiting for almost a year for repairs related to recalls they are unable to correct since the parts are not available. my vehicle also has a history of the panic alarm going off when pushing the unlock button the keyfob (i've made sure the panic was not hit by accident - this is not operator error). once the panic alarm is sounding the keyfob becomes useless and won't work. i have to take the key out of the fob, unlock the door using the key, get in put keyfob in car turn car on, turn car back off, take keyfob out of ignition and click the unlock and/or panic buttons to get the alarm to shut off.

Car all of a sudden shuts off while driving down the street at various speeds.35-70 steering wheel locks, you have very little control. very very dangerous has been hooked up to certified auto shop diagnostic computer all codes come back fine and they can not tell me why this happens. i already replaced crankshaft sensor to test if that was what was wrong with it. i am not going to go thru all these fixes for testing. dodge needs to do a recall on this problem. i called dodge direct to start a recall process. something needs to be done before a fatality happens! *tr

The vehicle keeps overheating. i've added coolant. there doesn't seem to be a leakage stain in the garage or driveway. it happened yesterday after leaving the office for lunch. i barely made it home before the journey completely shut down. i allowed the engine to cool off, added coolant, and it wouldn't restart. i took a different car back to work and was able to start the journey upon returning home. i let it sit overnight and it started right up this morning. however, upon driving 15 minutes during lunch today, it overheats again. the red warning light appeared and the ding sounded. the journey coasted into my office parking spot where it will stay until i leave this evening. hopefully, after adding more coolant, i'll at least be able to make it home. i will be trading this vehicle in asap! ps. the tire pressure light is always on, irregardless the proper amount of air in the tires. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and all of the warning lamps on the instrument panel illuminated. the contact mentioned that once she turned the vehicle off and back on it began to function normally. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer to determine the cause of failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was 55,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, there was a sudden loss of power and smoke was seen coming from the end of the vehicle. also, the contact stated that the low oil pressure and check engine warning lights were illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic test. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number : 08v247000 (electrical system). the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 84,000. the vin was not available. *tr

Recently my 2009 dodge journey has been experiencing starting problems. at first i thought it was the battery because it would start by jump starting it. then it became progressively worse, and i had the battery changed. that worked for about a week, then the problem began getting worse. you would drive the car for about 10 to 15 min, turn it off and when you come back it would not start. after a few tries it would finally start. when it did happen if you waited for 10 min or so it would start right up. then one morning i drove 7 miles and had to turn the car off, came back and it would not start. tried for 10 to 15 min and even tried to jump start it with no luck. i proceeded to get a ride to work, then came back that night and it started right up. i immediately took it to a pep boys ( a national chain) (dealership was closed) and left it there. they ran electrical, starter and ignition test on it the next day and found no problem. they started over 40 times over the course of the day and it started every time. now is working, but for how long. i have searched this on the internet and seems to be a common problem with the dodge journey. there is no real solution, just a bunch of guess of what's wrong. dodge needs to recall this vehicle. *tr

While driving to work the engine started making a clunking noise i stopped and checked under the hood the oil was very low it was not ready for an oil change yet and no lights came on i parked it and called to have it towed, the dealer says it is not covered under the factory warranty because it does not transfer from the original owner i bought it used, there is absolutely no reason for this to happen on a newer lower mileage car and to not have chrysler stand behind it is unheard of. i have completed all required maintenance on a timely basis. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled and all of the warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was able to be restarted after several minutes and on some occasions the vehicle would have to be towed. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure and the current mileages were approximately 38,000....updated 04/25/13 *bf the consumer stated the dealer flashed the power control module and advised to continue to drive the vehicle until the failure was constant or the code remained on. updated 05/31/2013 *js

As i was driving home from work and turning into my neighborhood i noticed smoke coming from the back of my car as i looked in the rearview mirror. there were no warning lights on other than my gas light which had just come on about a mile before. i pulled into my parking space and the car immediately began smoking from the underneath the hood, enough to alert all of the neighbors who came out thinking a house was on fire. i saw flames coming from the hood on the passenger side as i was exiting the car. about a minute after i got out of the car, there was a loud explosion from underneath the hood, and the car started to kick out more smoke than before. my neighbor came over to open the hood after a few minutes. there were no more flames, but the heat shield metal had melted from the heat, as did parts of my engine, the engine cover, hoses, and metal connections. (unsure of the true mechanical lingo). the incident was reported to my insurance company as a loss. *tr
