We have classified the 92 complaints from 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
The sliding driver's side door will not unlock either electronically or manually. this is a safety hazard as that door can no longer be opened. also, the sliding passenger door will no longer lock except manually.
Driver's side rear sliding door stuck shut and locked. will not unlock. will not open. just pulled in the driveway and went to grab laundry from the backseat and the door will not open
The latch system in my sliding doors are going out. apparently this is a very common problem with dodge vans, especially 2016 models. i only have 58k on the van and have only owned it 2 years. i maintain the van well. this is ridiculous. a loud buzzing sound occurs anytime i push any buttons or exit the vehicle.
My passenger side sliding door stopped working. i tried opening it manually and with the key off and dome switch, but not doing anything. even with vehicle in start and also parked.
Driver side sliding door is stuck in the lock position. it wont unlock with the remote, button inside or manually. keeps showing error messafe if you try to open it that the door needs to be unkocked but will not unlock. very unsafe since minivans are for family's and bow in the case of emergency i cant open that door. especially since the vehical has less than 60k miles on it.
This is regarding my 2016 dodge grand caravan (only 45k miles). both sliding doors were working fine, then on may 20, 2019 the driver's sliding door just froze--can't open it electronically or manually. the lock is stuck in the locked position and the power door lock switch won't move that door's lock to the 'unlock' position. when i try to move the lock/unlock button/lever on that sliding door, it's stuck in the locked position--even with a bunch of force i can't move the lever to the unlocked position--i feel like i'm going to break the lever if i force it too much. so the door is basically unusable right now. i have four (4) children and this is a major safety issue as they cannot exit the vehicle in a safe manner in case of an emergency. the dodge dealership i go to stated that this is a 'known problem' with dodge grand caravans and that dodge refuses to address the issue. the dealership said the cost to fix the issue is $506.59 the bigger concern is that i went on various dodge 'blog sites' and i counted over 100 other posts where people have had the same issue. i hope that you can help in getting this issue resolved. i cannot see myself paying $506.59 to fix an issue that is obviously a manufacturers defect. i look forward to your respond.
Passenger rear sliding door intermittently stopped working. would not open, make a buzzing noise. took to dealer to have it diagnosed. they said the door motor was faulty and could fail closed locking the rear passengers in the back seat. i had it repaired at a cost of $1300.00. a month later the driver side rear door failed closed. i am now looking at another $1300.00 repair. these items re not covered by the extended warranty
The drivers side sliding door is stuck in the closed position. it will not lock or unlock even manually. the passenger sliding door is now making a grinding noise everytime the front doors are locked or unlocked and could fail soon causing my children to be locked inside the van. only 68,000 miles on this van and the repair is ridiculously expensive around 1200 dollars. needs to be recalled. major safety hazard.
Takata recall, marine corps. veteran and my 2016 dodge grand caravan r/t driver side rear sliding door stuck shut on lock position i have tried removing fuses and still nonthing. after only 10 this is a major safety issue due to the fact i have 6 children that occupy the rear. i have gottten the quote from 1k - 2k to fix this issue which is very exspensive and can not afford. i have read several similar complaints on this vehicle ranging different years of the same model vehical.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge grand caravan. while the air conditioner was activated, the front passenger side vents blew out hot air without warning. the vehicle was taken to mcclane motor sales (618-783-2372, located at 702 e jourdan st, newton, il 62448) where the technician diagnosed and replaced the passenger side actuator. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 35,082. *dt consumer stated the report is incomplete in that it does not state that there had been a recall on this vehicle because of this problem with the recall on those manufactured up till may, 2015. obviously, the problem was not solved as our van was manufactured in sept. 2015. additionally, we've taken this van twice to have the van worked on. for the vehicle to have very slow acceleration. *jb
Driver side rear passenger door randomly froze and stopped working and is stuck in a locked mode. manual button will not release door and also all controls on remote, door panel or button on ceiling will not open door. safety issue if grandkids or passengers can't exit through door in an emergency. this should be a safety recall. it's not covered under warranty and is a safety issue. multiple complaints from others and dodge does nothing to resolve the issues $1300 repair to fix on a 2 yr old car is ridiculous. please make this a safety recall, i am afraid to take passengers in my van for god sake. i didn't buy a van to not did use it, but i have no money to fix it and i am locke into an expensive car payment not expecting to have expensive repairs.
I've been having electrical problems since i got the van at some point while i'm driving all the gages would start flashing acting like it was trying to die some cases it did some cases it did not but when i stopped the dashboard had lost all power to it no ignition whatsoever i still had working radio headlights and everything else whenever i would park the car it could take up to an hour or more to get in the vehicle because it would not respond to the key fobs you would be sitting down minding your own business and then all the sudden it would work left me stranded trying to get to work my child to school and then last night while i was driving down the highway i started hearing a noise and then all a sudden the transmission started slipping revving up to 6000 rpm while i'm crossing over a bridge on a major highway barely was able to get across the bridge leaving me stranded in an unsafe part of town i ran a code scanner on the vehicle it shows code u0141 that was stored and p083b which is the transmission fluid pump and it never turn on a check engine light until i was less than a mile from the dealer after i had to drive to the dealer because the roadside assistance number i had i could not contact them. i do know that some of the vehicles were under recall i'm not sure if this one was and it was fixed or not but is not showing an active recall but it is not safe the images i shared i was actually driving forward and as you can see the lights came on and at 1 point it actually showed me as being in reverse it beeps and goes crazy
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge grand caravan. after the vehicle was parked, the rear driver's side sliding door failed to open. the contact stated that the failure recurred once. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
The passenger side sliding door will not open or unlock. i have tried manually unlocking the door but it will not open.
Left power sliding door stopped working and unable to open manually affraid my grandchildren will be endangered if i'm in a situation and need to get them out from the left side
The passenger sliding door has locked shut. i am unable to open it at all. this occurred randomly, while my wife was by herself, 39 weeks pregnant with a small child and a toddler inside the vehicle.. i have researched this malfunction and it seems to happen often to this make (dodge and chrysler) minivan in the past several years. in my opinion, this seems like an extremely hazardous malfunction. i have a 4-year old, 2 year old, and a newborn all in carseats in the van. in the case of an emergency, and this door was unable to open, i would not be able to get all of my children out.
While in my driveway (vehicle was stationary), i attempted to open the driver side sliding door. the door was not working manually or electronically. dashboard screen said unlock door to operate, but the door is stuck in lock.
Not sure about the mileage as to when this happened (since i am not currently in my car) 1the car had been parked at home before attempting to unlock the door, when the sliding door (drivers side) made a "buzzing" sound and now the door won't unlock. we have tried to get the door open by manually moving the locking switch and it just doesn't move. we are currently only able to use the passengers side sliding door.
Passenger side air vents blow only hot air on vent and air conditioner settings with the dial on cold. the driver's side works fine.
Passenger side rear power sliding door is locked shut. it will not unlock manually or via key or interior unlocking button. there is no way to open this door. this is a safety concern; if anything were to happen to require this door to be used as an emergency exit, there would be no way to get the passengers out of the vehicle.
Driver side sliding door will unlock with the key fob, nor manually, it will not open at all there is no way to get out other than the passenger side. this is a defect an should covered. it is also a safety hazard.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the driver's side sliding door failed to unlock electronically. the failure progressed without warning. autonation chrysler dodge jeep ram south columbus (2201 victory dr, columbus, ga 31901, (706) 522-2089) was notified. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge grand caravan. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle began to ride roughly and the engine hesitated. while the contact was inspecting under the hood, a burning odor was present. it was discovered that a wire harness had melted. the vehicle was towed to steve white dodge(3470 hwy 70 se, newton, nc) where it was diagnosed that the wire harness, battery, and alternator were faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and a representative was sent to inspect the vehicle. the failure mileage was 10,000.
When vehicle is parked, side door ceases to function and will neither unlock or open. has happened to both passengers doors and is extremely dangerous as it is impossible to exit the car through the passenger space at any time.
My 2016 dodge grand caravan blows only hot air on passenger side. i tried to turn ac on and found driver side is blowing cold air but passenger side is still blowing hot air. should this be a recall?
The passenger side rear door lock actuator failed causing the door locks to get stuck in the lock position. the door lock will not move to the unlock position and the door will not open. this happens on the street while driving and passengers had to exit the vehicle from another door. this is extremely dangerous as if i had an accident no one would be able to escape from that door. looking online it appears this is common with this model.
The driver's side passenger sliding door is permanently locked due to a faulty actuator. this poses a serious safety issue for those riding in the back of the van, if the other slider is damaged, the passengers could become trapped in the vehicle. in researching this problem i have encounter thousands of others with the same probably in model years 2014-2017. the power locks work fine, then suddenly the one slider will not operate. this is an expensive repair that should be issue a recall for safety issues. i have contacted dodge concerning this issue, with no response.
Been for repair twice in 3 months first time sliding door on drivers side would not unlock .second time sliding door on passenger side won't lock . i feel these are safety issues
i bought a 2016 dodge grand caravan with 77,438 miles. the vehicle ran great till the end of november 2018. at which time we started having major issues. 1st the vehicle will self accelerate with to excessive speeds over 80 mph with no assistance. you have to hold the break to keep it under control. 2nd you can take the key out of the ignition, close the door and the car continue to run. 3rd when starting the van the transmission goes into limp mode not allowing you to shift the car to reverse or drive. to release the you have to hit the safety override switch place the van in gear and then you are only able to drive to the speed of 30 mph. we have taken this van to the shop that drive time warranty company directed us to which was pep boys. they were not able to do the work the vehicle needed but still charges us $50. drive time said we would be reimburse for but never happened. then drive time directed us to take the car to meineke the diagnosed the vehicle we paid the deductible $100. drove the van home 1 week later it was back at meineke to be repaired again. meineke advised that the part that was under warranty cause sever damage to other components of the van. drive time authorized the work. we went to pick up the van as it was completed meineke advised us it would be $2700 for the repairs as drive time was not paying for it. we contacted drive time on this they advised us to pick the van up and not to pay meineke anything. so we went round and round with drive time and meineke finally getting our van back. now 10 days later it is doing the same thing. i have 4 children and a wife that is in this vehicle that is unsafe and is an accident waiting to happen.
Takata recall - our problem is that the sliding side doors will not open. one played out about 6 months ago and the other played out a week ago. i've took it to be checked out at auto zone and none of the fuzzes were blown out. by it being considered a new vehicle the side doors shouldn't be having any problems!
The transmission is all messed up. when you get in and start up the van and put it in gear it acts like you are feathering a manual transmission and it will slowly start to take off. when sifting through the gears it will sometimes slip, the rpms will rev up and down then jump into gear. sometimes when it down shifts it will jerk when we are stopping, i have learned that this is call a bump stop by the techs.also if we have 3 or 4 people in the van and we try and back up it jerks violently, it feels like you are on a bucking bronco. i have taken it to the dealer, audobon chrysler in henderson ky. they keep telling me that they can't duplicate the problem, and that their are no recalls on this van. it's funny that i can go on line and find all kinds of recalls about the power train and many other problems with the 2016 dodge grand caravans, but the dealer can't seem to find any recalls??? i can't recall the exact date when we purchased the van, i would have to look it up,it was about a year ago and we are still fighting with the dealer as of 10/24/2019 because the problem is ongoing and getting worse??
Driver's side sliding door will not unlock or open in any way. it cannot be unlocked with keyfob, electrical unlock button, or manually pushing the lock. the door cannot be opened by pulling on the handle (inside or outside), pushing on the door open button next to interior handle, or pushing the door open button on ceiling control panel. door is entirely unusable. the vehicle was parked in the garage overnight without any incident or interaction taking place. the door worked the evening before, then did not work in the morning.
The passenger rear sliding door, makes a very loud buzzing noise anytime i lock or unlock it. it also does not actually lock, you can open the door while it's locked and it will set off the alarm.
Az - 2016 dodge grand caravan r/t, approx 63,500 mi. 2 weeks ago i went to start the vehicle and it wouldn't start. i assumed it was the battery because its a fairly new vehicle. i gave it a jump and the vehicle started. i set the time as it had reset to 12:00am but radio stations were still programmed. i went on a 3hr drive back home with no issues and figured the battery was charged by the time i got home. before i went inside for the night, i attempted to start vehicle up and it started with no issues. the next morning i went to start the vehicle and it would not start on the first or second attempt. i noticed the display on the dash would alternate from "run" to "off" each time i would try to start it. the third try the vehicle started for a good 3-5 seconds then died. the next attempt the vehicle started. i had the same issues after work and each time i would think it was the battery because the car would try to turn over and dash would alternate start to off and the clock on the radio would reset to 12:00 am. this has been going on for 2 weeks now, i reached the point of replacing the alternator. i also had the new alternator and battery tested, both tested good. what kept leading me to a bad alternator/battery was the fact that the clock would reset and the first few attempts to start the vehicle would not work. my thinking started to change as the days passed. i thought that had it been a battery or charging issue the battery would have been dead by now. today i went through the same routine, tried twice to start, then it would start then stall, of course the last try it would stay on. same thing in the evening, after work, but this time while driving the vehicle stalled out while driving in traffic at 45mph. no warnings or check engine light, i pulled over, vehicle started right up. a search of the symptoms lead me to tipm issues earlier models were having.
The drivers side rear sliding door will not unlock preventing the door from being opened. it is stuck shut and will not unlock manually, electronically, or with the fob.
About 3700 miles the a/c stopped blowing cold air. vehicle equipped with r134a. put my gauges on vehicle way low add some stop leak w/leak detector. found that the valve in rear a/c leaking. around same time driver rear sliding door stopped unlocking and opening, the child lock lever moved by itself. so i moved it back to disable and that worked for about a weak. then it started to make a noise like gears were jammed or rubbing together and then it just stopped. dorr remains unlocked now w/no sound from actuator. transmission seems to slip and lose power.
Vehicle at 36500 miles the passenger side sliding door buzzing when starting or locking vehicle. upon visiting the local dodge dealership was informed that the door actuator was defective and would cost approximately 300 to 500 to repair. the full dodge warranty ended at 36000 miles. the door will not lock. automatically this is a serious flaw and risk to occupant while driving if the doors are not verified manually locked. this is a risk for children, in the event of an accident, located in the center seats of the vehicle while operating.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge grand caravan. upon attempting to open the vehicle's sliding doors, the sliding door on the driver's side failed to open. the passenger side sliding door failed to lock and made a loud buzzing noise when the contact attempted to lock the door. the vehicle was taken to napleton ellwood city chrysler dodge jeep ram (1000 lawrence ave, ellwood city, pa 16117) where it was diagnosed that the locks on both sliding doors failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that they could not assist due to the extended use of the vehicle. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
This vehicle was purchased with less than 2k miles on it and in the month timeframe i have had it, it has stalled 3 times on me. once while driving on a busy road and twice in my driveway. the time on the busy road was when i was keeping up with traffic at about 40 miles per hour. the second and third time was when i was in my driveway and i had no sooner started the van that it shut off immediately. both instances i have had 1/4 tank of gas. when towed to dealer, no codes came on so i was told there was no way to determine what went wrong with vehicle.
Purchased this brand new several months ago. drove 8,000 miles to and from work. twice within the past week the van has completely just turned off on the highway. i have no idea why. i was just driving down the highway and the van just turned off. it's as if someone were to grab the keys and turn it off. i put it in neutral and restarted and kept driving. fortunately, i was quick enough and my children and i were safe.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the key would not turn over to start the vehicle. in addition, the instrument cluster shorted out and all the gauges and warning indicators randomly flickered. lastly, the vehicle randomly stalled several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transaxle oil pump needed to be replaced and that they would further diagnose the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the vin and failure mileage were not available.
When the outside temperature is 85-90 degrees, our van has a computer glitch. it has occurred both when first starting the engine or going down the road. it has happened several times beginning july 2016. the wipers come on and cannot be turned off. there are no gages on the dash and the display reads "no bus." the turn signals and brake lights do not work. there is no radio, a/c or heater, and some of the windows won't work. we are not able to tell how fast we are going with no gages. this problem did happen one time as we were going 75 mph down the interstate. it was truly an unsafe situation with no turn signals and brake lights and no way to know our actual speed. this lasted for about 40 miles until the outside temperature dropped. we have had the vehicle to the dealer 6 times for a total of over 40 days in the last three months. they were able to duplicate the error one time for about 20 seconds but the problem resolved before the tech could get the scanner hooked up. the tipm and another module have been replaced but the problem continues to occur. chrysler customer care has closed our claim, saying that because they cannot duplicate the problem now that the weather is cooler, they cannot do any more. our concern is that the problem will arise again when the weather warms up next summer.
Takata recall the tipm in my brand new dodge grand carvan gave out and caused a fire in my starter which caused smoke to come out of cars engine. bought car on 4/20 on 4/22 with 71 miles on it while turning a corner the tipm gave out causing the starter to keep turning over and made a horrible screeching noise then we turned car off and car started to shake and shimmy when we tried to turn car back on it was dead nothing would turn over. had to have car towed to dealership where they tried to charge me for towing. ivoq n n n n 15 v n n
