We have classified the 92 complaints from 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
I have a 2016 grand caravan with 52000. the driver side rear sliding door is stuck shut in the lock position. i can not get it unlocked to open door. it had been working good all day. i got home to take my kids out of their car seat but the door wouldn't open. tried with the fob, door lock switch and manually unlock it but it won't budge. what's it going to take to get a recall on this. my child getting killed (god forbid) and me sueing dodge and nhtsa . there are certainly have been enough complaints about this happening.
Driver's side back sliding door is stuck shut and in locked position. will not open with remote or manually. can't get it opened at all. passengers side sliding door makes loud buzzing noise when unlocking it.
Van makes a loud buzzing sound when lock and unlock or open doors . there has been many complaints by owners of same model posted on carguru.com etc. it appears this should be a recall item as it is very loud and frightening to passengers etc
Driver's side rear sliding door, all of a sudden, will not operate. notification on panel says "unlock door to operate" even though all doors are unlocked. this is a safety issue as the door will not open and passengers can not escape on the driver's side in the case of an emergency. many, many other people have had the same complaint.
I approached my car and hit the button on my remote to open the driver side sliding door. i placed my items in the car and pushed the door close button. i drove to my destination and when trying to open the door to retrieve my items the door will not open. i have tried using the remote, the button in the car & manually opening. the door seems to be stuck in the locked position and will not open. my husband has tried all of the above and checked the fuses to make sure it wasn't just a blown fuse. my door is now stuck closed and i drive around with my children in the car all the time. now i am worried if we are in an accident that the door cannot be opened.
While driving, several dash panel lights flashed, lost power steering, lost ability to increase speed with gas pedal. engine stayed on but only at idle. able to get out of traffic onto side road and stop. turned key to off and then tried to start car again. it worked on the second try. seemed to operate normally with only the clock reset to 12:00am. this same sequence happened twice, about a week apart. no rain either time both during daylight.
We stopped to get gay gas while on vacation, everyone exited the van and shut all the doors. when we came back and i pushed the button on the key fob to open the slider doors open o ly the passenger side door opened. i went to open it from the inside and it wouldn't budge. i unlocked all doors and still won't open. it feels as though the manual lock is jammed on lock position!. i feel this is a safety issue. if there were a need to open that door in an emergency it would not work! i have also read on multiple chat sites of other people with this problem. i feel it needs a recall so it gets fixed.
2016 dodge grand caravan, driver side rear sliding door. door lock makes a loud buzzing sound when it locks automatically, or using the fob. it happens while driving and the van hits 15 miles an hour with the auto lock, and when stopped using the lock button on the arm rest or with the fob. this appears to be a common problem with this vehicle.
We have problems with both the rear passenger and rear driver side sliding doors on our 2016 dodge grand caravan r/t. the van had about 37,000 miles on it at the time of the first incident. the rear sliding doors were not unlocking to open them while we were stoped, and in park. this happened in a public parking lot. the issue with this is, we couldn't open the doors to let our kids out of the van. the open/close sliding door switch in the van would not open them, neither would the key fob. we tried to unlock it manually on the door itself, but the lock was stuck in the locked position. i used a lot of force to unlock it manually with no luck. the actuators that power the mechanical locks felt like they were jammed and wouldn't let us unlock the doors manually. i finally was able to get it unlocked by forcing and holding the manual lock in the unlock position while hitting the key fob unlock/lock feature over and over again. it took me 10 minutes to troubleshoot this in order to get the kids out. it now works for awhile just fine, and then gets stuck again when you least expect it. i thought after i had it working that it wouldn't happen again. this has now happened five more times after the first incident. this is why i'm reporting it. if we have a emergency and need to get out of the vehicle fast, these defective doors could potentially cause injuries or death. the scariest part about this is, i never know when they will act up. i would leave the doors unlocked while driving, but they automatically lock when you reach a certain speed. i shouldn't have to disable a safety feature to feel safe driving this vehicle with passengers in the back.
Safety issues with both rear sliding doors. the passenger door stopped working all together. it is closed and will not open using automatic openers or even by hand. the passenger side slideing door now makes a loud buzzing noise any time you unlock the door. the door still unlocks and locks normally and open and closes normally but the buzzing noise just started about a week ago. it does this whether the vehicle is running or not. only makes the noise when unlocking the door, not locking.
Doors buzzing noise when lock or unlock
I live in maine and when it is cold out the automatic doors freeze up you cannot open it by yourself it clicks and clicks. doesn't seem like a big deal but my kids have to jump through the front to get in and i have a newborn baby who we have to stick the car seat through the passenger doors the scary thing is i wonder if there was an emergency and we had to get out of the car so the car is smoking or something the doors would not open i would have to try to pull the infant seat out through the front and the kids would all have to jump out through the front i don't get how this has not been recalled.
Passenger side sliding door is stuck in locked position. door will not open with key, key fob, or manually. when i try to open the door i get the message to 'unlock to operate'. definitely a safety issue! my small children ride back there and i need to be able to access them quickly if something happens.
While driving through a intersection turning right the engine shutoff without warning. along with the engine shutoff, power steering was lost and everything on the dashboard including the speedometer, rpms, radio. with the loss of acceleration and power steering it made it very difficult to maneuver to safety. once stopped i was able to place the vehicle in park i turned the key to off and restarted the vehicle and it started back up normally. absolutely no engine lights or warning were showing before or after this incident. i suspect that the issue is the tipm but can't be exactly sure.
Back sliding door has began making a loud buzzing sound anytime i hit the unlock button. it is really loud.
Driver side rear passenger door lock will not work. the lock actuator fails and does not engage the lock. this occurs at 15 miles per hour when the door is supposed to auto lock.
The passenger rear door makes a buzzing sound and does not lock or unlock.
Passenger rear sliding door will not unlock or open. i cannot open the door to get my kids in or out. the door unlocked and opened with no problems when putting my kids in. i drove five miles, stopped shut the van off and tried to open the door and it wouldn't unlock or open
The sliding door makes a buzzing sound upon locking the door. the vehicle was stationary.
Shortly after purchasing our used 2016 dodge caravan r/t with under 30000 miles, the passenger side sliding door lock began making a loud buzzing noise whenever locking or unlocking. now at 33000 miles the drivers side sliding door is doing the same thing. this costly repair is clearly a manufacturing defect considering the low mileage of the vehicle and how common it seems to be after a little bit of research.
Passenger siding door wasn't locking at all with power lock. now it will lock and unlock, but buzzes loudly when doing so. this is a very common problem for this make and model, and appears to lead to the door not working at al.
Rear passenger sliding door makes buzzing noise when unlocking. the lock and unlock doesn't always work.
Passenger rear sliding door makes extremely loud buzzing noise when any doors lock or unlock. there had been no damage done to the vehicle and this came completely random. very disappointed in dodge! i walked out hit unlock on the key fob while vehicle was stationary in my driveway. heard buszzzzzzz super loud got nervous couldn't figure out the noise. i figured it out when i turned the ignition and the doors then locked and the noise happened again. has now happened everytime since then and it's extremely loud.
Buzzing noise in the passenger side rear sliding door every time that i unlocked the door, from inside the car and with the key.
The power lock actuators on the side sliding doors have quit working on both the driver's side and passenger side. the malfunction is unsafe because you are unable to unlock the doors manually or open the doors. the doors are stuck in the locked position and stuck closed. if you had to exit the door in an emergency such as a fire or flooding, the rear passengers could not exit through the sliding doors. currently, the passengers have to climb over the front seats to exit in the front.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge grand caravan. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle hesitated and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the rear driver's side door made an abnormal noise, wires were exposed, and the rear passenger door did not open. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the coil and spark plugs needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer and dealer were not notified. the failure mileage was 60,000.
Both sliding doors have failed. the passenger side accuator is failing and the locking mechanism on the driver's side is stuck in the locked position. i cannot open the door at all and this is a major safety issue. the door does not open when car is in park and off or on.
2c4rdgcg8gr[xxx] 2016 dodge grand caravan with >28,000 original miles. vin # 2c4rdgcg8gr[xxx] 1st ' a few weeks ago the original key fob began not always unlocking the doors or starting the car. i had a new battery put in key fob but the problems continued. i had aaa test my car battery and it was good. 2nd - cluster lights began randomly flashing and dinging a few weeks ago after the key fob problems began. this last week or two the digital speedometer also began spinning upward and downward at a high rate of speed, randomly. these problems have progressively worsened becoming more frequent and with more systems flashing. one red light has even appeared under the green letter n, for neutral. no name and no symbol, just a red light. on wednesday the 21st, i had my battery tested again and the alternator tested at auto zone and o'reilly's, both said they are good. i had the original fob plus another new fob programmed to the car on wednesday, aug. 21, 2019 at courtesy dodge in mesa, az. the next day, thursday, 1 fob started the car and took us to walmart without incident. however, the fob would not open any door nor start the vehicle when we were ready to leave the store. finally called my son-in-law and he brought the other fob. neither fob would do anything for quite awhile, then finally 1 worked. i'm quadriplegic so having an unreliable vehicle and being stranded away from home in 114 degree heat is extremely dangerous. on friday we took the dodge to auto zone, they again said my car battery was fine. on saturday the 24th napa and auto zone checked for codes on the dodge. came up with u110a. today, sunday, aug 25, 2019 neither fob worked again. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tt
The driver's side rear door would not unlock with fob or manually. i had to have the actuator replaced for $500. a safety issue for passengers.
The vehicle was operating as normal, and without warning, the driver's side rear sliding door will not open. it won't open with the key/fob or manually. it is permanently locked.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the vehicle would not start. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that a win module was needed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 67,000.
Takata recall i brought my 2016 dodge grand caravan sxt, on 04/17/19 it has 30,000mile on it. passenger side sliding door locked again last time it happens 2 months ago i spend $1200 it happens again
The driving side sliding door has become stuck in the locked position. it is unable to be opened manually or with the remote or buttons. i was able to open the door with the remote to put my child in the car. when we arrived at our destination i was unable to open the door. this is a serious safety concern as if we were in an accident or an emergency situation i would not be able to get my infant out of the car quickly and safely.
A few months ago the passenger side rear sliding door on my 2016 dodge grand caravan stopped operating with my children in the vehicle. the door is stuck in lock position and i am unable to open the door at all. today the other sliding door (driver side rear sliding door) stopped working, locking my 4 month old, 2 year old and 4 year old in the rear of the van. we were able to climb over the middle console in the front seat to get the children out. if this was an emergency situation, all of our lives could've been in danger due to the doors not opening. i've researched it and it seems to be a very common problem among dodge/chrysler vans in the last 10 years.
The drivers side sliding door will not unlock or open. we have tried every way we can to unlock it --- key fob, overhead door opener, drivers side electric lock, and every combination of the above --- but it will not open or unlock!! this is an extreme safety hazard..... no one can get out of vehicle in case of fire or accident, the door will just not open no matter what we try!! according to the internet.....hundreds of dodge grand caravan's have the same problem!! this problem happened overnight, with no warning. we came home, unloaded groceries that evening and locked the doors. the next morning the door wouldn't unlock or open. all other doors open and are working fine.
Drivers side rear sliding door is locked and unable to be opened using the key fob or buttons inside the vehicle. vehicle cannot be opened manually either. when attempting to open via all methods the message 'unlock door to operate' shows on the message panel in the dash. attempts to unlock the door manually and via key fob and buttons inside the vehicle have no effect. this happened suddenly one day, no intermittent failure leading up to this. it has been this way for one month. this is a safety issue because if we were to get in an accident it would be difficult to remove children from the back seat who are unable to unlock their own seatbelts.
The driver side rear sliding door is locked and will not unlock. i took it to the dealership and they said nothing was wrong. two days later, the same issue happened. the door has been locked shut for 1 month now. when i lock/unlock the doors from the door handle, sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. i noticed that the driver door would occasionally lock, but not unlock when the passenger side doors would unlock. the entire lock system makes me very nervous if i were to get in a wreck. since there are no manual locks, it's possible that all doors be locked and my family (3 kids) would not be able to get out of the vehicle. i took back to the dealership and they said it's a common issue with this make/model. it will require a technician taking front dash apart and replacing a wireless sensor. if this is so common, why no warranty when it's a clear safety issue? 55,000 miles, 2016 model.
Sliding side door locked shut and cannot open. this happened to the passenger side first. dealer quoted $900. now drivers side is locked shut. this is a real safety issue that must be addressed. passengers in back cannot get out in case of emergency. if electrical lock goes bad, door should still be able to open manually. internet blogs show this is very common on these vehicles. chrysler should recall and fix.
The actuator on both sliding doors have been a problem with this car. they both have been stuck where the door does not close and lock. also the door has been closed before where my child has been almost hurt due to door not opening back up due to safety option with the door. i have had other issue where the the tailgate door does not open and close in the back it work went wants to. most incidents occurred in stationary and motor running cases. the actuator locking mechanism happens while driving 15 mph. if lock the doors this occurs to. had dealership look at these issue and they charged to fix one of the sides already. now the the other side is happening. they want almost a 1000.00 to fix. have been reading complaints of other owners of this year has been a issue with this model of car. needs be addressed and fixed out the dodge maker not the owner.
Drivers side sliding door does not unlock. causing vehicle door not to open on command. was told it has faulty actuator. to manually unlock it is extremely difficult for small children. could become hazard in an emergency.
Both electric door locks on the sliding doors make a noise every time the doors lock and unlock. one of the doors stuck in the lock position and would not unlock or open. had it fixed but is making the noise again along with the door on the other side. could be a safety issue if i can open the doors! one of the back windows will not roll down anymore and the entertainment system doesn't work anymore. all electrical problems!
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the rear driver's door was stuck in a locked position. enterprise car sales (5718 s lindbergh blvd, st. louis, mo 63123, (314) 842-6899) was contacted and stated that many clients experienced the failure and would cost $100 to be repaired. the contact did not purchase a warranty when she purchased the used vehicle. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 40,000.
Ret'd from a week long trip into my driveway, ready to unload clothes, etc. driver side sliding door would not activate, nor could i open it manually. tried, tried, tried - both manually and with key fob & with button above dash, to no avail. in early am left military facility lodging in indiana - no prob. took to local hertrich dealer pocomoke city, md. indicated 'actuator' at a cost of over $700. decided to check recall possibility as a true safety problem if my great grand children were inside. started copying all the 2019 complaints only to find out that out of 222 complaints the large majority are related to this problem. surely dodge should put out a recall. sudden, unexpected, had bought 2016 dodge as used car w/remaining warranty. had to fix passenger side door while still under warranty because of a growling sound in mid 2017. hertrich dodge can provide those details. yes, i want this covered, after seeing all the complaints just in 2019. will inform my dodge dealer re this complaint & await a recall surely! car has over 79k miles. at 81, don't need someone killed or injured on my watch because they cannot exit in an emergency! 7/2/19 - am lvg lodging fine; home in driveway it occurred.
Sliding doors loud buzzing when locking or unlocking the vehicle passenger back sliding door started first then 2 month later driver back sliding door. while driving or in parked position with key in egnition or without the key
Left side sliding door locking actuator will not unlock with keyfod, overhead door open button or even the manual button. so the door will not open at all stuck shut and locked. this is a safety issue due to if there is an emergency and you needed to get someone out of that side they are stuck. this just all of a sudden happened. there was not warning or noise made. here is a link to a blog with tons of people with same problem. i have only 56600 miles on my van.https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t41910_ds866499
The car was parked in the parking lot at my son's daycare. i went to open the passenger side rear sliding door with the key fob, and the door did not open. it was fully functioning that same day, and now the door is stuck in the locked position. i cannot unlock the rear sliding passenger door manually or with the key fob. so, i am unable to access that side of the vehicle at any time to help buckle/unbuckle his car seat or to open the door in an emergency.
The sliding door behind the driver's seat is permanently locked. it doesn't unlock with the key nor does it unlock manually. this is a safety hazard as if i were to be in an accident, the kids cannot get out of the car safely.
On june 21 2019 my wife and i drove to our ivf doctors appointment from our home in waco texas to houston texas. on our trip back home the air bag light came on as she was driving our 2016 dodge grand caravan. she took a picture of the dashboard the light went off maybe about 30 minutes while driving and we noticed the light of the airbag came on seven times more while we were driving on our way home. we would like legal advice please.
The driver side rear sliding door is unresponsive. the door doesn't open or close manually, with the power button, or with the key fob. all the other doors work as they are supposed to. when the button on the fob is pressed, the vehicle lights flash, acknowledging the command, however nothing happens. the vehicle was parked at my home, and while trying to load my infant children into their careers, we discovered the door was inoperable. the problem is not with a fuse, because the passenger slider is on the same fuse and works fine. i can't open the door to inspect the wiring harnesses; but it would have to be a poorly designed wiring harness or problem with the actuator. if my vehicle were in an accident, i would be unable to free my children from the vehicle.
The lock on the driver's side rear sliding door will not unlock. the door is stuck and will not open since the locking mechanism is stuck. it will not open manually or automatically. it causes a safety hazard due to the fact that if an accident or something happened, the door cannot be opened to let my children out.
