Problems with 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan ENGINE

On average, the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 99 469 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

The tmpi on a 20008 dodge grand caravan needs to be recalled. used car lots are disconnecting the horn and selling the 20008 grand caravan for up to 10,000 dollars to customers who are unaware that any time the caravan will become disabled while driving on any street or highway because the tmpi is faulty and caravan wipers will spray continuously wiper fluid on windshield. ( the horn will blow continuously if not tampered with and disabled. as in this situation with the 20008 dodge grand caravan. resource '. customer reviews and complaints filed against dodge chrysler corporations) caravan will not excel over 30 miles an hour. when caravan is finally parked the engine will not turn off. caravan will not go into drive or reverse. engine continuously idles while on the back of the wrecker/flatbed with the keys removed and then finally shuts its self off. another issue.... the used car lot owner will then repossess said vehicle and sell it to another unsuspecting customer who will buy the caravan that needs to be recalled because the cost of said vehicle repair part (tmpi) is $1,080.00 and $115.00 labor cost to fix the repair an hour. because buyer cannot afford the repair costs and the caravan payments and full coverage insurance ..which does not pay to replace the altered or defective tmpi. even though there have been recalls on the same identical tmpi part on two other chrysler/dodge vehicles. note... battery has to be disconnected while parked.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact stated that the check engine indicator remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to doug henry jeep dodge ram (4051 w vernon ave, kingston, nc 28504) where it was determined that the vin was included in four pending unknown recalls. the dealer informed the contact that there was a steering wheel sensor that needed replacement, which would be at the contact's expense. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 210,564.

I just bought my van used and the tire pressure light stays on (pressure has been checked) the check engine has now come on and remains on along with all the abs, traction control and brake lights have come on as well. the traction control light flashes while driving and the van will decelerate while driving. this happens while driving the vehicle. every time driving the vehicle

While driving on city street (between 20 and 30 mph) the vehicle engine shut off. the power steering and power brakes also stopped making the vehicle difficult to stop or maneuver to a safe stopping location. there was no warning of a failure and the only indication was the traction control/stability dash indicator. after the vehicle was stopped it was placed in park and restarted, then drove fine. there were still no indications of a failure (cel or ses light). no diagnostic codes were stored on the computer. because this happens completely unexpected, if it were to occur while going around a curve or in an intersection there is a safety concern.

While driving and while stopped at a stop light, the van will power down completely. engine turns off, power steering fails, and all electrical. the egr valve dangerously causes the vehicle to quit even while driving in traffic. this is a huge safety issue. i was traveling down the road at 40mph with all four of my kids in tow, when the power steering went out and vehicle completely quit. thankfully, i was able to pull hard on the wheel to pull over. after several tries, i was able to restart the van. the valve is apparently failing to send fuel to the necessary areas of the engine causing it to shut completely down. this has now occurred on numerous occasions and i no longer trust this vehicle as a safe and dependable family vehicle.

On saturday, july 21, 2018, a fire started in the engine, which resulted in an explosion and the van was determined to be a total loss. fire dept. and police arrived at the scene. the vehicle was in motion on a city street. a puff of smoke started, pulled vehicle to side of road. exited vehicle as the fire had started.

Van started shaking violently while driving. gets worse when i release the gas and when i put on the breaks. the shop has found that both the motor mounts and transmission mounts are broken.they said it is a known problem with this van and it is un safe to drive. also wire harnesses in sliding doors wont stay in the track

I was driving on a busy main city road at night, traveling around 35 mph when my van shut off and the wipers and horn went crazy. i lost all power steering and brakes. headlights also cut out. i struggled to get to the side of the road and into a parking lot. the front wipers stopped when i turned the key off, but the back wiper and horn continued for about 10 min. i did not have tools to disconnect the battery. suddenly there was a flash of all the lights in the car and everything seemed to be back to normal with the exception of the check engine light appearing on the dash. i was able to restart the vehicle and drive another half mile to my home. this is the first time this has happened while driving, that i have lost all engine power and steering, it is not the first time the van has acted out. wipers will suddenly start moving when i am driving or the horn with suddenly sound and radio will cut out. i have also had it go crazy with windshield wipers moving, horn honking, locks malfunctioning and fluid sprayed all over the car when i unlocked it. my wife once had my kids trapped inside of the care for 10 mins until i could i drive over and disconnected the battery. i have been told it is the tipm acting up. it has happened more than 10 times. i do not trust the vehicle. i have read about many more instances online. this could cause an accident if it was in rush hour or on a busier road.

In june had the tipm replaced as it was causing the horn to go off and stay on, the wipers to go off and stay on and other electical issues. these symptoms returned in the last month (i was traveling during the return of the issues) and this time, about two weeks ago, while doing 55mph down a secondary highway, the car's horn and wipers came on and the car completely shut off - the engine shut down. the dealer replaced the tipm again.

Driving down freeway and van stalled. coasted to road side. wipers go crazy when car is parked and drain all the cleaning fluid out. have not been able to clean windshield of excess dirt to see more clearly. car has gone crazy. everything electrical goes berserk randomly. never know what may or may not work.

Several times my van, whether i have warmed it up or just got in and took off, will spontaneously die. usually with in the first mile of driving. usually i just slip it into neutral and restart. this doesn't usually bother me since i live over a mile from any significant traffic but, it happen twice over our family get together in st louis. scary sitting in a busy intersection and your car is dead. has always been while the van is in motion. not really associated with any turning. this happens about 4-10 times a month. started about 3-4 months ago. *tr

When driving the engine stalls, the anti slip sign is on, i lose all power. the steering wheel is locked and no brakes! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. while stationary, the vehicle started on its own and the engine ran for over an hour. the failure occurred numerous times. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 187,147.

When driving the vehicle it has just completely shut off and you can put on the brakes or turn and it can cause a very bad accident. the hole van just completely shuts off while driving on highway in motion.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. while driving at any speed, the contact noticed a foul odor in the vehicle. the contact opened the hood and observed coolant leaking. the vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was leakage from the "v neck". the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 46,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.

This van dies while in operation, most often within the first 5 miles of driving in the morning. it has gotten to the point where it happens every single day, sometimes multiple times a day. it appears to happen most frequently when decelerating (upon taking our foot off the gas, the tachometer bounces way down (~500rpm or so), then stutters a bit, then the vehicle stalls/dies. this has happened while turning at an intersection several times, and we narrowly escaped a collision. we have had 2 key fob recalls performed, as chrysler had attributed the problem to faulty fobs/ignition switches....the most recent recall was performed less than 6 months ago. no change was noted after the recall work was performed. the problem rarely happens on the highway, although it did happen to my wife last week while she was at highway speed on the interstate. i'm listing today's date in the field of "when did this happen?", as it did happen to me today while in an intersection, turning left - i immediately shifted into neutral and restarted it, narrowly missing the car to my right which was also turning left...but it happens virtually every day now.

Car dies without warning. acceleration, steering and braking compromised and dangerous. happens randomly, when stopping, when accelerating when cruising at highway speeds. engine hot and cold. new ignition installed as part of recall program and the problem has gotten worse since the "fix".

My van was sitting in my driveway. i used the key fob to attempt to unlock the doors and instead the horn started honking, wipers going, washer fluid spraying and lights flashing. it did not stop and the doors would not unlock. i had to use the hidden key in the key fob to manually unlock the door to open the hood and disconnect the battery. i reconnected it and attempted to drive it to my mechanic. it stalled after about 50 feet. i ended up being able to drive it to the mechanic four days later. my mechanic said it had 6 recalls on it (which i was not notified of) and needed the tipm replaced, which was not a part of a recall. he said chrysler would not allow him to buy the part and i would have to take it directly to the dealer. he said the part is $780 and does not include labor! i cannot afford this and i need this vehicle! i have three kids! i did some research online and saw that this part on my van was a part of a lawsuit. when they settled the lawsuit, they did not include the 2008 grand caravan. this is the same exact faulty part that is in the other vehicles that are covered by the lawsuit/recall! there is absolutely no reason i should have to pay for any of this.

Van has been stalling out since i have owned it. i purchased new in 2008. it is at second dealer performing recall for the ignition for the second time. i have been with out a vehicle since 3/26/2016. first dealer dutch miller dodge kept van from 3/26/16 until 5/6/16. released vehicle back to me with same problem it went in for. i have filed a complaint with dodge . after having to schedule a appointment with a different dealer and wait for a service date of 6/20/16. the vehicle is at the new dealership i 77 ripley. they are redoing the recall from a year ago that dutch miller had performed. this is the fourth week they have been working on the vehicle and recall problem. i have requested many times for a rental car and both the lifetime warranty i purchased with the van and dodge have both refused to provide me a vehicle. i have been since march 26, 2016. without a vehicle and i have had to borrow cars from family and beg for rides because dodge can not or will not fix my recall on my van .i have been very patient with this situation but something needs to be done. if this vehicle i paid $41,000.00 for in 2008 is not repairable and not safe to be on public roads due to recall then i feel they need to reimburse me and compensate for my transportation problems. .

Car just quits running at any time. recall was done to fix some control module and new fobs. not fixed.

The van engine shuts down while in drive. this has happened 4 times with in a week. it has shut down completely at an intersection. even the hazards would not come on to show other drivers that i was broke down. i received a notice last year about a recall for the ignition module and i was put an a long wait list to have it fixed. on january 3, 2016 i had the recall taken care of at sherwood service in salisbury, md. i have never had the engine failure happen before having the recall fixed, and now, it is happening. when the engine shut down the last time, my husband who was driving had to call the police to direct traffic around the van until the tow truck got there so he would not be hit! it blocked an intersection for 30 minutes until the van was towed away, when the van got home on the tow truck, it started up with no problem. every time this has happened, the van has been in gear and driving when it completely shuts down and it has either gone over a small bump or been turning. i would also like to add that i had an appointment with sherwood chrysler in salisbury, md today(3/22/21) and they said that they could not find anything wrong with my van and tried send my husband home in the van without fixing the problem! he insisted that they drive it (which they would not do today) to see if it happened again. they still have my van.

Sept 2015-my engine shut off while driving at 25mph and the horn and wipers went crazy. i was able to pull car to side of road safely. feb 2016- took van in for recall for new key fab. the following week the car went crazy when i pushed unlock button to get into the vehicle using the new key fab. horn went off, wipers squirting fluid and doors locked on me except for the rear hatch. took into dealer they changed the clock spring. march 2016- vehicle went crazy again (horn, wipers, doors) i got into vehicle through rear hatch, unlocked hood, turned key to start to see if i could unlock, car started. i tried to turn off and engine kept going without key in ignition. i got out disconnected battery cable and the vehicle. was still going crazy and the engine was still running for about 10 minutes. i took vehicle into dealer they first stated it needed new battery cables.. i told them that will not fix the issue.. it is more than that. keep the vehicle until you find the real solution. now the dealership is telling me it is the integrated power module ($950) on top on the clock spring that they replaced for ($550). i feel like the dealership is just reaching for solutions and ion the meantime i have to keep paying for their testing.

While driving the van shuts off and looses all power to include power brakes and steering. also the traction control light comes on. the following has been completed to fix the problem without the problem being resolved: replacement of battery and check of battery cables, recall complete of win module, replacement of o2 sensors and egr valve, and check of all fuses and wiring. after all of the aforementioned repairs the van still shuts off while driving. when the van shuts off the check engine light does not come on and there are no codes present for the mechanic to diagnose problem. this issue is an extreme safety issue and it appears there are numerous reports i have been able to locate on the internet. my wife will not drive the van not because of the problem. when the van shuts off you can place it in park and restart the van and continue to drive. the van has shut off on me while i have been driving it and there does not appear to be any indicator that it is going to shut down, ie stuttering or irregular operation. the speed that the issue has occurred ranges from 20 mph to 55 mph.

While driving around 45 mph on southbound ga125, the water temperature started to fluctuate and i smelled antifreeze burning. i stopped at a gas station and steam rose from hood. under the hood, fluid had sprayed from the heater hose "y-pipe". antifreeze saturated the under-hood blanket and covered the engine. all of the antifreeze was purged onto the ground and in the engine bay. this is the second time i've had to replace this exact part. the first time the vehicle was about 3 years old (2011) i had it replaced at my local dodge dealership (cass burch valdosta, georgia) today the same part failed in the exact same manner. please investigate a manufacturer's recall, or at least a better quality replacement part. plastic and hot fluid apparently don't mix.

Parts #4781537ac(connect water pump to radiator, made from metal) was purchased at napleton's dodge (arlington height's ill ,60004) dealership at 05/07/2015..today middle of oktober 2015 and i must change this parts again because of antifreeze leakage(same problem was before) very costly !!!!!more over dangerous, can bring engine to overheat.was lucky catch this at my driveway ,but if long distance or highway ,or on the middle of nowhere.... ......should go back to mechanic and pay again for installation..why dealership sell same cheap parts as any regular parts store for higher price ...?

For a few days my van has been having issues starting.(not battery) every light on the dash bored has been popping on. then all the dash lights go out and so do the head lights. we were driving at night. parked the car for a minute and let it run. it shifted out of park into drive and drove up a little knoll and into a parked car.no one was in or around the van. my bumper was damaged. luckily no one was hurt. i am a mother of 4 young children. this is a very dangerous situation. today it rain a bit but prior to today it was not raining. when in parked, lights and wipers were in the off position but they continued to stay on. at a very fast rate it would idle up and down quickly. we refuse to even turn on the van for i am scared of what may happen.

We had taken the vehicle to the chrysler dealership in bloomfield hills, mi 3 days prior to our trip. we had it all checked out, they charged us around 400 for flushes and such, the rest was great and ready according to the dealer. 2 days into our trip, we got a check engine light. we went to the dealership in atlanta, left it for 2 days, and rented a vehicle. they said no issues found. we started for florida only to find the check engine light would always be on after then. when driving back, in kentucky going about 70 miles an hour in the mountains, the gauges all went to 0 and the entire dash went black. this was very scary and i assume unsafe. i maintained my lane and speed, as i was assuming there was no power steering or power brakes for the ten seconds it took for the power to somehow come back. we have lost power on this vehicle multiple times, and chrysler/dodge dealerships have attributed it to the key fob. we have had several replacements. this is unacceptable to loose power on a vehicle when driving and multiple dealerships to misdiagnose the problem. please help.!! :(

Over the last year i've had to replace the heater hose 3 times in the last year. each time costing me $400. recall!! i've already had 5 recalls since i bought it so obviously they are made poorly.

Overheating when driving. coolant leaking at heater hoses, shift over heat. problems after recall repair service performed.

The y pipe is defective and leaks coolant.

Beginning in february of 2015 the vehicle has had intermittent problems where it will shut off unexpectedly. this occurred all all speeds and resulted in the loss of power, power steering and power brakes. the dodge dealer replaced the wireless control module under an open recall that was intended to fix this stalling. after recall work was performed vehicle continues to stall unexpectedly.

I was driving about 25 miles down the street, when the car suddenly shut off and jerked to a stop. the windshield wipers in the front and the back of the vehicle started moving without my turning them on. the horn started honking by itself. i was in the middle of the street and cars were driving past my vehicle extremely fast and i feared for the safety of my two children. i continued to try to start the car to get out of the way of the fast moving cars, but the vehicle would not restart for another 20 minutes. once i was able to get the car out of the intersection, the horn would not stop honking and the windshield wipers kept going even though i did not have the key in the ignition. the doors kept locking and unlocking on its own and i was unable to get out of the car with my two children without assistance from my family members who arrived to assist me. the car has not been driven since this incident and remains parked. *tr

Engine shuts off while driving!!! dangerous situation if i was going faster i could have crashed with my 7 year old daughter in the car. isn't this the same thing that happened to gm and they had lawsuits? respond please: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Call switched from on to acc . there are no additional keys nor key chains on the fob. why is it taking so long for recall repairs to be made???????? *tr

The first thing that happened was; we were driving down the road and the van just stopped running. luckily we were only going 20 miles per hour and there wasnt a lot of traffic. the power steering wasnt working but my husband was able to steer the van off the road to safety. we called aaa and my husband went to the store to get dry gas because we thought that there may have been moisture in the tank from condensation. when he got back to the van he put in the dry gas and he decided to try to turn the van on and it turned over. we went home after that. after that the van seems to work for a while, then one day my husband came home from work and tried to shut the van off, but it would not shut off. the horn started blowing and the wipes, wiper fluid, lights and door locks were all working all by themselves. we unattached the wires to the battery but that did not work and finally started pulling fuses until it all stopped. he drove to work without the fuses until we could get it fixed. i called chrysler and they said that there was a recall around may 2015. we brought the van into the dealer and they replaced the ignition module and gave us new key fobs. the van stalled again on the way home from work and we called aaa to get the van and take it back to the dealership. they said that they checked all the electric and ran a purge monitor test and others. the dealership said that they could not find anything the matter with the van and charged us $200. just recently we were driving in traffic at around 20 miles per hour and the van stalled again. this time we did not have time to move it and a truck driver helped to push us out of traffic. my husband took the wires off the battery and put it back on and the van started. we went to the toyota dealership and bought a car that day. we still own the van, but i am afraid to drive it.

I have trouble with the ignition . when trying to start the vehicle sometimes it will just click. the module has been replaced, still have problem. sometimes the key fob sticks and engine keeps trying to start. i then turn the ignition off manually. starter has been replaced already too at my expense. i have replaced the strut and spring assemblies, but i get rough ride still.when turning i get a snapping sound in the steering.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge grand caravan. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was serviced under nhtsa campaign numbers: 11v139000 (electrical system) and 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system) on two occasions; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the egr valves needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 75,000. the vin was not available.

The vehicle started on it's own, along with the doors locking and the lights came on. the keys were not anywhere near the vehicle and it does not have remote start. it just came on completely by itself. *tr

I was driving at 45 mph when suddenly van revved up from 1500 rpm to 3500 rpm, and speed went down to 30 mph. somehow i got my car to my work place and parked it. i suspected my transmission had gone bad. i decided to take my car to a transmission shop. i drove the van at 30 mph at 3500 rpm to the transmission shop. their technician drove the van around, did some other inspection and reported that there was no problem with my transmission. however he mentioned there was a electrical power loss which made my van go into limp mode. remarkably my van started driving normally after the inspection. i took my van to authorized dodge dealer. they pulled some codes from the computer which indicated power loss to several equipment. they suspected the tipm module, but did not have hard evidence from the codes. they advised me to leave van overnight at the service area, and have them check it out. i declined because arranging alternate transportation was difficult. today morning, while driving the van, wiper blade suddenly started running. it stopped on its own after few cycles. now i am unable to start the van. reading through forums where drivers have experienced similar issues, i am confident it is the tipm on my van. it is a safety issue, since i drive on the freeway a lot, and if van goes into limp mode, it will be a hazard. looks like dodge is aware of this issue. why don't they accept the situation and deal with it by issuing a safety recall and fixing the tipm. please force dodge to issue recall, else i will need to spend $1000 atleast to fix tipm. *tr

Vehicle stalled on short trip through neighborhood driving at local speed. we took the vehicle to a repair shop for inspection/repair and nothing was found. we have since experienced multiple stalls during low-speed driving scenarios and had the vehicle looked at again with no findings (throttle-body was cleaned). we have most recently experienced a complete non start of the vehicle (no turnover, no dash lights, etc.), tried to start multiple times and nothing, waited a half-hour and it started. similar non starts have happened (estimate 1 to 3 times a year) since we purchased the vehicle in 2008 but it has always started within a short period of time, we've shrugged it off due to infrequency and lack of gravity of the situations (e.g. sitting in garage).

I was driving down the road, the wipers came on, the horn started honking the engine stalled and the lights went off- sat on the side of the road for 30 minutes and it started back up -tipm needs to be replaced. *tr
