2005 dodge durango limited, 5.7l hemi v8 stalls while backing up. first time it happened the truck started right back up immediately. the second time on 11/28/11, it took 3 times to restart the vehicle. this has only happened while in reverse. apparently this is a common problem with the hemis and there is a tsb #0802404 to "reflash" the engine and update the software. the forums state that this is a fix for some vehicles, but not all. i am scared to be in this car with my kids now-what if we stall on the highway and get into a wreck? please fix this issue! our safety is my number one concern, and should be yours as well, dodge! *kb
I purchased my 2005 dodge durango, 5.7l hemi, used from a dealership. a check engine light came on and i took it in for service and they flushed my transmission fluid and said that if it did it again they would try replacing the solenoid in the transmission. after that, the engine would just shut off while driving - mostly when i was just starting out, but one time it just died (no warnings) when i was doing 70 mph down the highway! now my car is starting to buck (feels like you hit something) at @ 45 mph - not when accelerating, stepping on the gas or decelerating, but rather when staying at a steady rate of speed. i have young children, my husband works out of state, and i fear for our lives every time we drive this vehicle! it is my only form of transportation and i have a loan on it! i have read hundreds of complaints about these same type of symptoms. i want to know why dodge has not done anything about it! the federal government bailed them out before, now it's time they take responsibility ...

2005 dodge durango stalls several times a week at low speeds, while braking, turning, parking. this has happened on curves, sending us into oncoming traffic since power steering goes out. this has happened in a school parking lot several times, creating a hazard. no particular date, as many incidents have occurred. taken it in to dodge twice for service and they tell us that nothing is wrong. obviously they are wrong as this has been reported before. we want this fixed. we like the truck otherwise. it would be great if we felt completely safe in it, but this is hard to do when it stalls with no warning. *tr
1999 dodge durango. stall out while driving for no reason! look at some of these websites.... http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/durango/1999/electrical/vehicle_shuts_down_without_warning.shtml 120 complaints of the same nature! do something about this!!!! *tr
This has been an ongoing issue with our durango. the first time it happened was about one month after i bought it used with approx 60k miles on it. it is totally at random. i'm always able to pop it into neutral and start it back up again as if nothing ever happened. the biggest problem with this is not only that the engine totally shuts off(as if that isn't a huge issue in itself), but that the power steering/power brakes go out as well making the possibility of an accident a huge issue. it has always had a stutter when driving. after taking it to the dealer, being told they couldn't replicate the problem or pull any codes. in order for them to find the problem i would have to pay them to locate their defect. at this point dodge needs to resolve this since i am not the only one experiencing this huge safety issue. i urge everyone to also submit this problem to the nhtsa. *tr
I bought my durango at a used dealers. it had 56000 miles one owner, 2010, center column panel over heated and you could smell plastic burning. the radio shut off the air condition controls well actually everything was so hot you had to turn off truck to let that center panel cool down before you could turn them off,the next thing i started hearing a bad shifting noise and it banged really loud like from the rear end i assumed. no matter if you were driving slow or fast the truck would downshift and sounding like a rod or something was going to come through the floor. i have all of the maintenance down when was told but this didn't help at the time the downshifting started it was 90,000 miles ,now i am at 93,000 -or 98,000 miles and something is really knocking to me i thought it might have been a fan hitting the radiator but not the case, it also stalls out in the rain and engine wont start until after rain has stopped, it stalls out on sunny days for no reason. you still here a thud noise or it downshifting hard at 15 miles ...
Transmission in my 1999 dodge durango has begun to slip and its pulling hard. it won't go into 2nd or 3rd without me depress the gas pedal. i've tried transmission fix lubricant, changed the fluid and filter, and tuneup. i've been reading from several websites that people are having the same problem with the transmission and dodge won't do anything about it. people work too hard to have their vehicles maintained and getting a rebuilt or brand new one will cost thousands of dollars that normal people like myself don't have. is it anything you can do about this so that people like myself can have a peace of mind knowing that the transmission is in working condition and its safe. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 1999 dodge durango. while driving at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the contact was able to restart the vhicle after waiting approximately forty minutes. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the mechanic stated the engine would have to be rebuilt. the contact had the vehicle repaired, however, the failure continued. the contact believed there was a failure with the pcm module in the transmission. the approximate failure mileage was 152,305.
Have had ongoing problem with the engine cutting out for last 18 months. replaced plugs and wires. problem still persists. usually occurs while not giving gas. occurred once will turning into a parking lot. power steering went out and vehicle maneuvered into oncoming lane right of way. no collision occurred. *tr
