We have classified the 191 complaints from 2014 Dodge Durango about EXTERIOR LIGHTING into the following categories.
The racetrack light on the rear of the vehicle was replaced in 2017 due to water seeping inside the light component. less than one year later, the replacement racetrack light has filled with water and the light has stopped working.
Water pooling inside left side of race track taillight on deck lid, noticed problem at 45,000 miles of use. one element is now burned out resulting in less visibility to other occupants on roadways. safety issue please address.
Rear led raceway taillight fill up with water. part of the light is dim and cannot be seen
I reside in massachusetts, where winters can be long and harsh. either raining or snowing. i purchased my 14 durango with 29k in mileage back in june and around december i noticed there to be a puddle of water moving back and forth in my left side light that is attached to the tailgate (not the brake light). maybe a few days later a few of the led lights burnt out and i now have no lights on the side.i have since tried contacting the dealer and the company that i have an extended warranty through and neither of them will fix nor replace the led strip of the racetrack light. the light itself costs aroun $1,000 and i shouldn't have to worry about something like this. i shouldn't have to keep my vehicle in doors while it rains or be concerned about the safety of my daughter if anything were to catch fire due to electric unit hitting water. i have since joined a dodge durango page on facebook bringing the matter up and a lot of people have experienced the same issue. this should be a recall and fixed immediately. if dozens upon dozens of people are experiencing this from2014-2016 dodge durango's i think something should be done about it. i bought a farely unused car in which i put $4,000 down and now 7 months later i have to pay $1,000 for an entire light strip that should never get water in it? it blows my mind that i have to worry about something like this. please help us durango owners.
The rear taillights accumulate water and have no way to weep/drain. this is now a safety concern due to the fact that the taillights have failed.
My led light bar at rear of truck is taking on water and shorting the light. clearly a manufacturer defect.
The lift gate tail lamp housing is full of water because when manufactured the housing was not made to be water tight. this is a very common issue in this vehicle and affects not only the lift gate tail lamp but also other aspects of the vehicle's electrical system. i have several lights that have shorted out because of this issue.
The rear light in the center of the tailgate, commonly referred to as the "racetrack" light, is not sealed properly by the manufacturer and is susceptible to water and condensation building up inside of it - this can come from the vehicle parked in a driveway/parking spot during rain, driving down a wet road, or during a car wash. the result of extended water within the light is several burned out sections of leds on both sides of the "racetrack" were discovered while the vehicle was parked at night, preventing the full rear lights from illuminating.
Racetrack tail light assembly has water inside and bulb has burned out
Standing water in the race track tail light for the 3rd time in 3 years. dealer has not found the root cause, just keeps replacing it. causes the tail lights to flicker on and off.
I purchased a 2014 dodge durango on nov. 2017. i returned the car 2 days later because of the tail light had water in it and the part of it was not working. the dealer replaced the tail light. shortly after that the rear camera and license plate lights were not working and water got in the tail light which caused it to flicker while driving. the tail light eventually stopped working. the dealer referred me to a dodge dealer that eventually replaced the tail light in march of 2018. it is now february 2019 and part of the tail light stopped working due to water that seeped in the tail light. i've had the tail light replaced twice in less than 1 1/2 yrs of ownership and now the tail light needs to be replaced again.
The taillights on this model are called "racetrack" lighting as deemed by dodge. these lights are all led and run the entire width of the vehicle. over time, it appears that the material used to construct the assembly develops cracks. the assembly may also allow water to enter the unit and pool. eventually, this will impact the led components of the unit thereby rendering the vehicle a safety hazard as the taillights will no longer be as effective as designed due to unit failure.
Led racetrack lighting on rear hatch has water in lens and is causing the lighting to malfunction. this poses a visability hazard. the vehicle is garage kept and has never been in an accident. there are no obvious cracks or damage to light lens. this is a dangerous problem and very common as i am finding out.
Water pooling inside race track tail light, my truck barely has 30000 and i've taking it to carmax in laurel, md and they say it's not covered through warranty it should because they should have better race track tail lights to prevent water from going in the light and the light bulb going off
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. the contact stated that there was water in the tail lights and they were partially inoperable. the contact also detected a burning odor. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to mcgrath chrysler jeep dodge ram (4610 center point rd ne, cedar rapids, ia 52402, (319) 393-4610) where it was diagnosed that the tail lights needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 60,000. the vin was invalid.
Rear light bar has shorted. there is water inside the assembly
There is a leak on the led taillights. water is now trapped inside my taillights. this is causing my taillights to short circuit making it extremely dangerous to brake and drive at night. i have heard from many other 2014 durango owners that this is a common problem.
Water getting into the rear hatch light [bar] on lift gate, causing the l.e.d. light to burn out. seems to be not sealed properly from factory. whether it is sitting, or mobile, the water still gets into the assembly.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. while raining, water entered into the exterior tail lamps. due to the water intrusion, some of the tail lamps failed to operate. the contact stated that some water also leaked from the tail lamp area. the airport chrysler dodge dealer was contacted and diagnosed that the tail lamp assembly would need to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 28,000. updated 10/17/17*lj *tr
Tail light is taking up water and condensation that is mostly pooling along the driver side. bottom lights in turn have shorted out.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. the contact stated that the tail lights retained water, causing the lights to short out. the vehicle was taken to rairdon chrysler jeep dodge ram of marysville (360-653-5664, located at 16610 smokey point blvd, arlington, wa 98223) where the tail lights were replaced; however, the failure recurred 19 months later. the dealer stated that the warranty expired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the warranty expired. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 38,000.
Water inside racetrack light
2014 dodge durango citadel 5.7 liter rear racetrack led lighting burned out at lower right side bottom. it appears water has entered and burned out the led bulbs in that area.
The rear lift gate led "racetrack" taillights can become filled with water. this appears to be a common problem with many. water in the tail lights can cause a short which could be a fire hazard. tail lights may also stop working with is also a safety hazard. vehicle owners that are outside factory warranty are forced to pay over $1,000 to have lights replaced. vehicle was parked in driveway overnight during heavy rain storm. please view more affected people in the following link http://www.dodgedurango.net/forums/durango-discussions-2014/16295-water-led-light-assembly-lift-gate.html
Led sign her tail light fills up with water and shorts out the led bulbs there's no way to change the led bulbs have to replace the whole thing
Rear track lights accumulated water resulting in light flickering possibly shorting out. no idea how no physical damage to vehicle.
The rear sensor beeps non stop even though there is nothing behind it. i took it to the dealer and they said that they couldn't diagnose it even though i sent them a video to show them what i had been dealing with. i have also been dealing with the key fob, every time i go to lock my car it beeps once to lock and after the first beep it beeps 3 times and then unlocks my car. when the car is on and i go to open the driver side door, even with the key in the car, the car beeps and tells me the key fob is not in the vehicle. the race track light was beginning to fog up and with time we started to notice that it was filling up with moisture. it filled up to about and 1" and we managed to release the water but part of the race track light is burned out now. i still have the warranty but the dealer said that those lights are not covered and the pricing would range from $1000-$1200 to fix.
Water and condensation is trapped inside the rear brake lights. i think the name of this is called "race track" tail lights. water is stuck in there and has burnt out one side of my led light. it just sloshes around with no way to escape. the other side is submerged too but hasn't yet burned out. the entire piece has to be replaced and its very expensive. the part is on "national back order". i'm sure it wont pass inspection and i could get a ticket for it. my durango is not under warranty any more as i just hit the 3 year mark and i am sickened that this part is over $1000. i wish this would be a recall for faulty equipment.
Water pooling in rear tail light causing led to burn out. vertical line crack in center of rear led assembly.
Water and/or condensation in rear lift gate taillight is causing the led light to start burning out. this seems to be a manufacturers glitch as i have seen this in several other durango's on the road, and a few of the newer style chargers (same exact burning out location). working with the dealership they have ordered the replacement part (extremely expensive and will fight with chrysler on this defect) as from a mileage standpoint i am out of warranty, and will attempt further reimbursement for these expenses, however the part was ordered back in the middle of march 2017, and is still on back order as of 4/26/17 with no release date. this sort of back order tells me they know there is a problem and they don't have the supply for all the others with the same issue!
Tail light and center lift gate lights are pooling with water and causing dark spots in the track lighting and other lights to fail. there has been no damage to this vehicle. this is the factory light assemblies and there have been multiple complaints of this happening with the 2014 and 2015 dodge durango
The rear center tail light (racetrack) is collecting water which caused the led's in the bottom corners to stop working.
Center rear taillamp on tailgate is getting water inside of it that puddles and collects in bottom of assemble. concerned that led units in the lamp may short out.
Rear track light has moisture inside and a portion of the lights are burning out leaving dark areas.
Rear tail light failure with low mileage on vehicle. running and brake lights stop working. likely due to water intrusion causing short in electrical system.
The light on the liftgate collects water while raining. the water stays inside the light and has made the led lights go out where the water was collected. this happened twice now. the light was replaced by the dealer where purchased and within one year it happened again. the part is close to $1000 and from what i can tell it will just happen again. the design is flawed and really needs to be fixed. i have noticed multiple other vehicles identical to mine with the exact same issue. while searching for others who may have the same problem in search of a fix i have realized there is so many others with the exact same issue. i have also realized there is no fix. anyone who has had this problem and replaced the light ends up having the problem again. i do not think this is fair to the consumer to have to spend close to $1000 every year to have a working light on the back of the car. i am submitting this in hopes something will be done to fix the design flaw. this issue is on my 2014 dodge durango r/t which i bought brand new. like i said i have replaced the light once already and i do not feel like i should have to keep paying to keep a working light.
The passenger side tail light and the center tail light (mounted on tailgate) fill with water. this results in the passenger side tail light often not working. the center tail light is occasionally totally inoperable and now has leds permanently burned out in the lower portion. neither tail light fixture has ever been damaged and the problem with each one appears to be the result of manufacturing (or design) defects.
Water leakes into the rear "race track" light assembly that is on the rear lift door. vehicle is stationary when problem is notced. i have to remove bottom bolt on rear of assembly to drain water and then it fills up again. a section of the lighting no longer works. i have had intermitted times where all rear light are out( no brake/ turn signal) not covered under warranty. i have notice many vehicles with same problem and have seen many complaints thru many websites. there is no fix offered thru dodge except purchase replacement part for $1200.
This has happened twice, the first time was a month or so ago but it happened again last week and the wound was much worse. the exposed edge of the left and right rear brake light are extremely sharp and exposed anytime the rear hatch is open/up. i thought about making a video showing how it could peal and apple or watermelon skin. my right arm has a short 3/4" scrap (1st) and now an almost 3" long scrap that is taking its time to heal. if your skin touches those edges and has any amount of force it will scrape the skin. this happens during unloading if a package shifts while unloading. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. the contact was concerned that there was no oem replacement option for the headlight assembly on her vehicle. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer (safford chrysler jeep dodge ram fiat in winchester, va, (540) 667-5532) to have the headlight assemblies repaired. the manufacturer was unable to provide replacement oem light fixtures because the parts were no longer in production. the dealer installed aftermarket headlight assemblies, which failed to attach properly to the vehicle's bumper. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact to work with the dealer. no further assistance was provided. the vehicle was not properly repaired. the failure mileage was not available.
After a year of owning this vehicle i noticed the rear hatch break light was collecting water. this large cluster cracked down the very center almost as if the weight of the two ends was not supporting putting pressure on the center. once it fills with water all the lights that are submerged in water burn out.
The tail lights (commonly referred to as the 'race track tail lights) mounted on the exterior of the rear hatch constantly fill up with water which is burning out the lights. this is apparently a very common problem on these vehicles. this part should have been covered by the manufacturer. this happens any time it rains and in the seattle area that is very frequent.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge durango. the contact stated that for the sixth time there has been water entered the taillight on the rear tailgate of the vehicle. the dealer dick's country chrysler jeep dodge 767 sw baseline st, hillsboro, or 97123, (503) 746-9621, replaced the lights for the sixth time. the dealer stated that the parts were covered under a 24 month warranty. the issue recurred again and the vehicle was taken back the dealer. the contact was informed that permission from the manufacturer was needed from the manufacturer to replace the taillight a seventh time. the manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. the failure mileage was 9,000.
I was following a dodge durango suv in heavy traffic on eisenhower expressway going into chicago at dusk and the lights surrounding the tail lights and across the rear of the durango were so bright i could not see all the other traffic satisfactorily. i couldn't get ahead of the suv, so had to slowdown and change lanes to drop far enough behind so i couldn't see the irritating lights.the lights were so bright, i felt i was driving into headlights.
