We have classified the 443 complaints from 2005 Dodge Durango about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
Upon filling up at a gas station. my 2005 dodge durango slt will spit fuel back approx 5 secs after clicking off at the pump. my truck was built jan 2005, 1 month outside of the orginal recall window and subsequent new window. i have checked the www and it seems alot of owners have similar issues. i would suggest that the original clean/ dirty point provided by the teir 1 supplier was incorrect and infact did not capture all vehicles with this issue. i believe this is a huge saftey issue that should be changed to encompass all 2005 durangos as it it obvious that the current clean point was ineffective.
My 2005 dodge durango's tank overflows when refueling. i have contacted dodge and am waiting on a response. this is very unsafe and i know their is recall but my vin doesn't seem to be included. *tr
Anytime i fuel, my j2005 durango spits a lot gasoline out of the filler neck. it does not matter how fast i fuel or whether or not i top off the tank. i called dodge and was told that chrysler/dodge will not include my 2005 durango vehicle in the fuel tank recall as noted in your campaign number 09v003000 or 05v3400, even though i had the same issue the recalls were to fix. i was told my mileage was to high to be included in a recall. the first incident was in feb of 09 & now it is every time i fuel. *tr
Vehicle gas tank overflows when gas is pumped until gas pump autostops. a large amount of fuel spills out in 1-5 seconds after. i have had this happen over two years now. dealer seems to not want to fix. recalls are conveniently not for the vehicle in question. seems small amount of vin qualify. *tr
2005 dodge durango slt/hemi. when filling the gas tank, the pump handle will stop, then the tank burps and gasoline blows out of the tank through the filler neck. your website shows a recall for this, however dodge and the dealerships say it is not for my vehicle. i have not had it repaired yet due to the cost. i have been covered in gasoline when this happens. this recall needs to be expanded to my vehicle as well. the gas tank recalls are exactly what is going on w/ my vehicle. i have been told by several mechanics that this is an issue and some dealers will take care of it and some will not depending on if it fits in the recall range. *tr
Fuel spurts out of the gas tank filler opening when filling the gas tank. about 1-2 cups of gas comes back out after the filler nozzle shuts off automatically. it happens approximately 2 out of 3 times filling the tank. when the fuel comes out of the filler neck it has gotten onto me and my clothes and of course it ends up on the ground at the filling station. i took it to the dealer to investigate the problem, they confirmed there is excessive pressure when filling the tank. the solution they proposed is to replace the gas tank and filler. i have not had this repair completed yet. *tr
2005 dodge durango, fuel spill out when filling tank, happens virtually everytime. it gets gas all over the side of the vehicle and anyone near the gas pump. there has been a recall on this, but my vin is not part of the recall. *tr
I own a 2005 dodge durango limited. recently, every time i fill up the gas tank, the gas pump shuts off when the tank is full, but immediately thereafter, a great deal of gasoline erupts from the filler tube of the durango. this occurs every time i fill the vehicle and with different gas pumps. research reveals that chrysler actually issue a recall for this exact same problem for a limited number of vin's for 2005 dodge durango's, but since my durango's vin does not match the recall, chrysler will not fix the problem as a safety issue, potentially requiring me to pay a $700 repair bill. this is a significant safety issue that should be addressed, but chrysler is failing to recognize that it's initial recall should be broadened to cover all dodge durangos. *tr
Fuel spit-back from 2005, dodge, durango (manufacturered 03/2005). according to nhtsa recall campaign number: 09v003000, this problem was solved on all vehicles manufactured after 11/30/04 and the complaint closed. it is time to revisit this problem, as indicated above, my vehicle was manufactured after that date. i and fuel station attendants are "dodging'" the violent eruption of fuel from the filler neck. seems to me a new recall is necessary. *tw
2005 dodge durango. when filling the gas tank with fuel, after the pump nozzle clicks off, the gas shoots back out of the filler neck soaking the ground and the side of the vehicle. there is a recall notice on this problem but not on the vin # of vehicle i have. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that every time he tried to put fuel in his vehicle, the fuel would spill out the filler neck. the dealer was contacted and they stated that the vehicle was not included in recall 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap). the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 70,000.
When putting gas into the tank of my vehicle, it spits gas back out. at the same time, we are getting surges in the speed of the engine, seems to be more frequently when speeding up from low rpm. the internet is full of instances of this same problem, but my dealer says no recall pertaining to this matter. they are replacing the gas tank at no charge, but say that i must pay for a diagnosis and a replacement sensor for the surging. they claim that neither problem is a recall, nor covered in my expensive extended warranty. i am being charged close to $300, including rental car. *tr
After allowing gas to fill vehicle completely, the gas nozzle stops pumping. once i remove the gas nozzle, gas spits out of the fuel filler neck all over the vehicle and myself. this condition has occurred three times. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact noticed that when attempting to add fuel to the vehicle, gasoline would spill back out onto the ground similar to nhtsa campaign id number: 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap). the dealer advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer informed the contact that there were no open recalls for his vehicle. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the current mileage was unknown and the failure mileage was 60,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated while refueling the vehicle, fuel would escape from the fuel filler neck. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing or to be repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap). the failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 42,000.
I have a 2005 dodge durango that spews gas violently from the gas tank once you fill it up. this is a know recall from dodge but my vin # was not included in the recall. this recently started happening with my dodge and has happened the last 5 times we purchased gas. this could cause a fire and puts my family and others in life in jeopardy. *tr
I have a 2005 dodge durango vin# [xxx] . it has 71,000 miles on it. when filling the gas tank, it blows the gas back out the filler neck every time i close the pump nozzle to stop filling the tank. everytime i stop pumping gas it blows approximately a half gallon of gas all over me, the ground, gas pump, vehicle, and whatever else is around. this a very dangerous situation. it has the potential to catch fire and burn down the gas station, vehicle, and innocent by-standers etc. it also has the potential to get into the water through run off. i brought the vehicle to a dodge dealer to find out what was wrong with it. they told me that it was a faulty check valve in the filler neck and that the whole gas tank had to be changed. they also told me that there was a recall on some durangos for the same exact problem but, the recall did not cover my vin#. i don't have the $650 to fix it. i am hopeful that the recall would be expanded to cover my vehicle and all the other i found on the internet. those that are having this problem and are not cover under the recall are just as dangerous as the vehicles that are covered. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. he stated while filling the vehicle with gasoline fuel, it would spew back out spilling all over the contact. there were no recalls on the vehicle and he had not taken it for repairs, to date. the failure mileage was 45,000 and the current was 70,000. the vin was not accepted.
There is no particular event leading up to the following failure--it happened and then never stopped happening. every time my 2005 dodge durango is refueled, the gasoline backwashes out of the filler tube. a significant amount of fuel gushes out of the filler tube requiring that i dodge the fountain of fuel. this is a serious safety issue. my research revealed that a recall had been placed on this model for the same symptoms, but dodge claims that my vin isn't wasn't included in the recall. they suggested i take it to a local dealer for a diagnostic, which cost $70. the diagnosis is that the charcoal evap canister is filled with "liquid" caused by overfilling the tank and dodge refuses to cover the repair. i contend that the evap issue is caused by the very problem of the fuel backwash. my visit to dodgeforum.com revealed that the fuel overflow is a common problem. given the existing recall, it's obvious this is a safety problem that dodge should be required to correct. *tr
1. the car requires gas. 2. when filling, gas shoots out of fill pipe when full. (1-2 cups) 3. problem same as described in action #rq08005 and recall campaign# 09v00300 but my vin not included in recall. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. fuel escapes from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling. the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was notified, but because the vehicle exceeded its warranty, no assistance was provided. the current mileage was approximately 31,000. the failure mileage was approximately 30,625.
Every time i fill my gas tank gasoline sprays out just after the gas pump clicks off. there is a current recall for this issue for my type of vehicle , 2005 dodge durango, but it does not cover my vehicles vin. the recall is daimlerchrysler e01. i contacted the daimlerchrylser recall center and was told that they can't fix my vehicle free of charge because it is not covered by the recall. *tr
Gasoline shoots out the filler neck and does not shut off automatic fuel pumps. this happens all the time unless i manually fill the tank at a very slow rate for the last few gallons. gas spills on whoever is filling car, soaking clothing with gas and can spray in attendants face due to the height of the filler neck. *tr
When filling vehicle with fuel, gas spews out all over car ground and people, creating a fire hazard at a very bad time . *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that when refueling the vehicle, gasoline would spew back from the filler neck and the fuel pump would not shut off when the fuel tank was full. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage tank assembly but was advised by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 105,000.
I have 2005 dodge durango that spills gasoline all over the outside of the vehicle when filling it up and the gas pump turns off. this happens everytime the tank is filled completely up. contacted dodge but they said my vehicle identification number isn't part of the recall # 09v003000. others are having this same issue when i searched the web for information. here is just one website that folks are reporting the issue: http://www.fixya.com/cars/t592484-fuel_overflow_recall_2005_durango here is the info i found on the nhtsa website: nhtsa campaign id number: 05v034000 on certain sport utility vehicles, the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve may not fully close at the end of refueling. this could allow some fuel to escape from the vehicle filler neck. fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire. *tr
My vehicle spits back fuel everytime i fill up. i believe it is being cause by stuck inlet check values in the fuel tank filler tubes. there is a recall on my model vehicle for this problem. the nhtsa action number for this recall is rq08005. but i am being told by the dealer than my vin number is not included in this recall, however i am having this problem. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. whenever the contact adds fuel to the fuel tank and attempted to remove the pump the fuel leaked out of the filler neck with force onto the vehicle and the contact. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. the current and failure mileages were 78441.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve does not fully close at the end of refueling. this allows fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling. he called the manufacturer in reference to recall # 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). he was advised that since his vehicle identification number was excluded from the recall they were not obligated to assume responsibility for failures. the failure mileage was 75,000.
Every time durango is filled, gasoline pours out of the spout. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango which was purchased in 2008. while adding fuel to the vehicle, the filler tank would not shut off and caused gasoline to spew out of the vehicle. the failure has occurred numerous times. the manufacturer was contacted and there were no open related recalls. the manufacturer stated that they would assist with any liabilities for the failure. no repairs had been made. the failure mileage was 59,000. updated 01/14/10
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. when inserting fuel in the fuel tank the gasoline will regurgitate. also the fuel gauge on the instrument control panel displays inaccurate readings. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. although he experienced identical failure, his vehicle identification number was excluded from recall campaign id number 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap). the failure and current mileages were 64,841. the vehicle identification number was unavailable.
I have a 2005 dodge durango slt i had 3 separate incidents, at 3 different gas stations in which i would go to fill the tank and gas continues to overflow. i checked for recalls regarding this and found that chrysler has one for this, which is h45 or 09v003000. i notified chrysler at the number given (ref #18975878) and was advised that eventhough my vehicle was not in the recall campaign, i could go to a certified dealer and pay the diagnostic fee and if they found that i had the defect described, they would cover the repair. i went to holden dodge in dover, de and they found the vehicle to have the exact problem described in the recall where my inlet check valve sticks open. when they contacted chrysler, holden dodge was advised that my vehicle was out of warranty and i was the 3rd owner and they would not honor the repair. it should not matter if i was the 50th owner, it is their defect!! i was advised that this recall was for vehicles manufactured in october 2004 and my vehicle was manufactured in january 2005. it is hard to believe that they corrected this malfunction in 3 months since i am experiencing this defect. i want chrysler to honor the tank replacement under warranty since a certified dealer has confirmed that this was my problem. i oaid the $80.00 diagnostic fee as advised and chrysler did not hold to their promise when i originally called. was given a quote of $669.00 to replace he tank, which i cannot afford. so right now, i do not fill the tank with gas. please help me to get this issue resolved and have chrysler honor their defect!!!! *tr
The fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve does not fully close at the end of refueling. this allows some fuel to escape from the vehicle filler neck spraying on my wife every fill up. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. while filling up the fuel tank, the fuel would shoot back out of the tank instead of stopping when the tank is full. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that her vehicle was not included in recalls 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap) and 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). the failure mileage was approximately 100,000. the current mileage was 111,520.
When completed pumping gas into the vehicle and removing the gas pump nozzle, the gas comes shooting back out of the tank. suv was taken back to place of purchase and a new gas tank was installed in approx. beginning of october 2009.. the problem is now occurring again in june each time gas is pumped into the vehicle.. looked up online recalls on vehicle. there is a recall on vehicle for this year make and model for fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe: and cap.. when i called the dealer phone # i was told the recall was vin # specific and my vehicle was not included in that recall. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact observed that an excessive amount of fuel spilled from the fuel tank. the failure occurred whenever fuel was dispensed into the fuel tank, followed by fuel spraying out of the tank. the fuel nozzle stopped when the tank was full; although, fuel continuously sprayed out of the tank. the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction. there was concern of the potential safety hazard. the failure mileage was 50,000.
2005 dodge durango fuel overflow/splash. about a year ago i noticed the fuel pump would not shut off when refueling which cause a great amount of fuel to splash back at the person filling the tank. i took my vehicle in for maintenance and was told by dodge that it was not under recall and it would cost me $600 plus to fix. i went to a different dealer recently and was told the same. this is a severe safety issue! believe this is related to nhtsa action number : rq08005. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. contact stated that while refueling, fuel would escape from the filler neck. the dealer and the manufacturer were contacted who referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly: filler pipe and cap) but advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 86,000.
Fuel spits back from filler neck when filling the tank. the fuel spit back and spillage is occurring at the last portion of the fill about five seconds after the nozzle kicks off. *tr
Every time i fill up with gas, fuel comes gushing out of my fuel tank. at first, i thought it was the gas station nozzle, but realized that after using several different stations, this was not the case. after completing some research online, i saw there was a safety recall issued for this same complaint. i then contacted chrysler and was informed that the vin on my vehicle was not covered under the recall. i asked for my next steps, and was told to contact the dealership, which i did, and was told i could pay the $100 diagnostic fee to determine the cause. but, i was also informed that since my vehicle was not covered under the recall, i would have to pay "several" hundred dollars to get it fixed. the first time this happened, gas spewed all over my hands and feet. so, after cleaning myself up the best i could, i drove home smelling gas fumes. i have to listen very carefully and look at the gallons on the fuel pump to determine when i need to stop adding fuel. i then go turn the key to see how full the tank is. i then proceed again with the same steps until i think i have enough gas or at times, gas comes spewing out. i would hate to think of an injury that could occur to my eyes if gas got in them due to me listening so closely for the sound of a "full" tank. i have seen several complaints in which the vin number wasn't covered, and i think this is ludicrous, if there is a safety issue, it needs to be resolved. will it take the actions of my lawyer to get this resolved?
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. fuel escapes from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and was she was advised that the fuel tank inlet check valve was previously repaired according to recall number 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). the manufacturer was notified, and she was waiting for them to decide if she will receive a free remedy. the failure mileage was 82,000.
Fuel spills out of filler neck every time i try to fuel up no matter what station or how slowly i try to fill. i get gasoline all over my vehicle, myself, and the ground. dodge dealer told me it needs a fuel tank replaced at $750. i find a recall on this exact problem for 2005 durangos, but they tell me it doesn't apply to mine. same problem, same vehicle - are they yanking my chain? *tr
Ticking sound and a exhaust smell in vehicle caused me to take my car to a local repair shop to have exhaust manifold gasket replaced. the technician found that a bolt had broken off a was sitting in the heat shield. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. he stated that when filling the vehicle with gasoline, the gasoline would spew back out of the filler neck. he was able to locate a recall campaign for his year, make and model describing the same failure he was experiencing (nhtsa campaign id 09v003000: fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly) and contacted his dealer. the dealer advised him that his vin was not listed under the recall campaign and that repairs would be at the owners expense. the dealer stated that the entire fuel tank needed to be replaced. the failure mileage was 65,000 and the current was 71,300.
When filling the gas tank, the gas will spill out of the hole when it is about full. this will occur every time you try to fill up the tank unless you stand beside the tank and listen to when you think it is about full. since this has happened, we have had the gas tank replaced. daimlerchrysler put a recall on 26,000 vehicles for this same type of complaint. it is complaint # e01, but when i called them, they are stating that since my vehicle was not listed, it was not part of the recall and are doing nothing about it. it is the exact same complaint that the recall was for. *tr
When my durango is filled with gas it will not automatically shut off the gas pump but instead gas comes spitting out the fuel opening. this occurs every time that i fill my vehicle up. i do not fill it up anymore because i don't want gas all over my clothes, shoes or down the side of my vehicle and not to mention the puddle of gas that accumulates on the ground. i notified my local dodge dealer as well as daimler-chrysler but was told by both that my durango was not in the recall notice even though it was doing the same thing as what was described in the recall. they advised me that my fuel problem was probably something else all together without even checking it out. i am on a limited budget due to unemployment and i cant afford to have the fuel tank replaced. i don't feel like i should have to replace any part on the fuel system because i truly believe that my inlet valve is faulty due to manufacturers error. in reading over the recalls it states that the problem was fixed and no other vehicles were involved but dodge doesn't even want to consider that maybe there was a problem with all of the 2005 inlet valves. i just want to feel safe again in my vehicle and not afraid to stop and get gas. *tr
When filling gas tank, fuel pump shuts off when full, then gas is expelled from the tank. my car was manufactured in dec 04 and the recall covered cars manufactured through nov 04. is there any recourse or appeal available to get this recall extended. clearly dodge didn't solve the problem as soon as they think they did, judging by the hundreds of us with the same problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge durango. the contact stated that when refueling the vehicle, gasoline would spew back out from the filler tube and would occur frequently. the dealer advised that there were no related recalls on the vehicle. the vehicle was neither inspected nor repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000 and the current mileage was approximately 65,000.
I just bought a used 2005 dodge durango last week. each time i've tried to put gas into it, it spits it right back up. in order to put $20 worth of gas in, i have to pump and let go about 20 times (about every dollar inteval) and even then, some gas squirts out or atleast gurgles around the opening when i pull the nozzle out. i read about the recall online and had a new gas tank put in today, free of charge of course. the problem is as soon as i left the dealership and tried to put gas in, the same thing happened - maybe even worse. the pump now cuts me off every 2-3 seconds. it takes forever!!!! i went back and was told the recall was just for the tank and it's "probably" a problem with the fuel filler tube???? he quoted me 264 + tax just for the parts of something that is "probably" the cause. should the filler tube have been replaced as well? i can't believe that i am still experiencing this problem. oh yeah, most people with this complaint say that the fuel spits back when their tank is full. well it doesn't matter how much gas my durango has in it. even if i have less than a quarter of a tank, the same thing happens. this is damaging the paint since the gas is constantly running down the side of the vehicle. *tr
