Recently reported ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING problems on 2004 Dodge Durango

2004 dodge durango with 5.7 hemi engine was purchased in 2007. in july and august of 2010 i experienced several occasions of stalling and hesitation, many times while traveling at highway speeds of 65 miles per hour as well as 30 miles per hour in local traffic. vehicle has stalled with no power in traffic. several times this has occurred during raining and sunny conditions. various times check engine light has come on and vehicle was taken to dealership for service and keep for days. chrysler dealership charged for sensor replacements and complete tune-up of plugs wires, adjustments, etc. this all happened in the summer of 2010. the vehicle had been allow to sit in our driveway for several weeks to cut down on driving it due to the performance issues and trips to the dealership. on november 25, 2010, thanksgiving day, i when out to start the vehicle and a loud thumping noise came from the engine without any previous warning of this type of problem. my neighbor told me that it sounds like a blown piston or rod in the engine. i have then found many similar incidents and complaints on the website describing this same dangerous and defective vehicle and engine as mine. someone will be seriously injured or killed if chrysler is not forced to replace or repair these defective engines. if this were toyota, you would have no problem taking action against the manufacturer. you must do the same thing against chrysler who has given the public a bad and defective product with an extremely high cost to repair and should not be shifted to the consumer while the company is provided the ability and protection to ignore their responsibility. please do your job as the american public depends on you for justice and recompense on products that are inferior and unsafe. please take action for recall and replacement and/or repair of all 2004 and later 5.7 hemi engines right away. there are more than sufficient cases and reports as i found out that i am not alone. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. the contact stated that the pistons on the vehicle have started to disintegrate. the failure caused the vehicle to stutter and then stall. the check engine light illuminated prior to the failure. the dealer performed a diagnostic test which indicated that the number six cylinder misfired. the dealership took the vehicle to a regional test site, dismantled the engine and found that the number six cylinder was disintegrated. the dealer stated that the engine had to be replaced. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 92,000 and the current mileage was 92,600.

2004 dodge durango w/5.7 hemi engine. piston went through the engine when the car was started. i had bought the car with over 60k miles and i put less than 20k on it from the time i purchased until the time the engine went. the car was 15k so we still have a car note on it. i have no vehicle to drive but still making payments. my husband is out of work and we don't have money to replace a malfunctioned engine. this is not normal wear and tear maint. vehicle looks new and have had all required maint done on a reg. basis. *tr

2004 durango all maintenance kept up, car was running fine then one day went to start car made loud knocking noise, dealer said blown cylinder. *tr

I own a 2004 dodge durango 4.7. the miles are 117,000. my wife noticed a loud ticking sound coming from the engine. after doing some research online about the durango i came open another owner that reported it being the exhaust manifold. i bought a new exhaust manifold gasket and when i went to install it i noticed that 6 of the bolts had been broken off. on the drivers side the heat shield was completely missing. i went to the dealer and purchased a new heat shield and replacement bolts. after i installed them the ticking continued, i took it to my mechanic and he told he was sure it was an exhaust leak and to go ahead and replace the drivers side manifold. i purchased the manifold from the dodge dealer and once i got the old one out i noticed they did not match. the factory exhaust manifold that came with the vehicle did not have the two holes closest to the rear of the car. i believe because of this it cause excessive heat causing the bolts to break off. i believe it also to be a fire hazard. i have contacted chrysler i have not heard back yet. *tr

I have a 2004 dodge durango with a blown engine. my 5.7 hemi has approximately 96,000 miles on it. my vehicle's engine has been properly maintained for the four years i've owned it. i've kept the oil changed every 3,000 miles, have run only high octane fuel in it, and put less than 10,000 miles a year on it. my 17 year old daughter was allowed to drive it to her dental appointment which is thirty miles from our hometown. however, she was not able to get out of the driveway. she called and told me the engine was "banging," and i don't mean slang for awesome. so, she took her old maxima with over 200,000 miles to her dental appointment, and when i got home, i found out what she was talking about. the engine has thrown a rod. i called chrysler to ask if there is a recall on the vehicle since i researched my problem on the internet and found that my engine failure is not an isolated incident. i understand completely that i have no warranty on the vehicle, but at such a low amount of miles, i assumed that dodge had realized that they have an obvious mechanical or engineering defect that needs to be corrected. unfortunately, chrysler does not agree. after talking to several agents at chrysler, i was assigned a case manager who had come to the conclusion that i was on my own, but they wanted to offer me four complimentary oil changes! i did not make that up. four oil changes for my blown engine. i've babied this vehicle; most of the miles on my durango have been highway miles. i've only hauled a trailer a handful of times. this vehicle should not be worn out. i still have two years to pay on it. as a poor school teacher who relied on this vehicle for transporting his family safely, i am severely disappointed with chrysler's choice to ignore so many people who have experienced this very same problem of counting on chrysler to protect our families with a reliable vehicle built to safely carry our families in traffic and through all types of weather. *tr

2004 durango 92,000 miles. properly maintain. no issues. one morning started making in clanking noise from the engine near the oilpan. rod bearing broke. replace engine cost $7000. *tr

On a 2004 dodge durango, when accelerating, the car basically dies and gets no power. the lightning bolt light come on. this is happening during acceleration on the highway causing a huge hazard and is now a safety concern. *tr

2005 dodge durango stalled at 60 mph in interstate traffic, oil light came on. had to coast with steering wheel locked across two lanes of traffic to arrive at shoulder. vehicle was towed, would not restart immediately. days later vehicle restarted but stalled again less than one mile from repair shop while making u-turn. car left with mechanic, a series of things have been attempted to repair.. another oil change, battery service, alternator service, oil pump repair, only remaining options, fuel pump or. rebuilt engine. not willing to pay for engine repair, especially on a defective well documented part. *tr

I own a 2004 dodge durango slt 5.7 hemi, under heavy rain, engines starts to misfire. it has been over 2yrs with this issue. this happens only under heavy rain. water is apparently touching a coil or cable which makes the car shake as if it wants to cut off, if under extreme rain engine light turns off. it is horrible. i have not found a remedy for this and i find no recall as yet. i have taken to the dealer and complained but they cannot find anything. when i did a tune up feb 2010 at the dealer, mechanic mentioned that he found the coil moist, which was odd. but this is a problem as i cannot drive the car under heavy rain conditions. im afraid of getting stuck in the rain or engine going bad if i don't fix this. *tr

Vehicle: 2004 dodge durango limited with the 5.7l hemi v8 engine. 130,000 miles on vehicle. driving vehicle at highways speed (50 mph) it suffered a catastrophic engine failure resulting in a hole in the side of the engine block. rod failure. connecting rod simply broke in half for no reason. failure is not the result of neglected maintenance! the maintenance schedule as prescribed in the operators manual was strictly followed using the recommend oil (mobil 1 5-30w). mechanics summation of cause was "poor quality connecting rod from manufacturer". the internals of the engine showed no wear and was very clean. replaced engine with used engine cost was over $3000. *tr

I purchased the vehicle on 8/27/2010. on 9/4/2010 while driving on the highway at 70mph, the car made a jerking movement then stalled. i looked out of the rearview mirror, and there was smoke coming from the exhaust. i was unable to stop due to the power brakes going out and rolled into a ditch. i immediately called the car dealership. the car dealership told me to have it towed there and they would diagnose the problem. two weeks later the dealership stated that the engine was overheated and stalled. there was no indication while driving the car after one week of purchase that the engine was overheated. the car dealership refused to pay for any repairs stating that it was due to my neglect. the car dealership repaired the engine through their own mechanics and i was forced to pay $4200 for a used engine. i explained to the dealership, while doing some research that this is a common problem with the dodge 5.7: hemi engine and that many formal complaints were made. although the car was under a 30 day warranty, the dealership would not pay for the cost of the repairs. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. the contact was driving 65 mph when the oil warning light illuminated and there was an unusual ticking coming from the vehicle. the vehicle then stalled and the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to her residence where it was examined by an independent mechanic. the mechanic advised that there was a thick layer of burned oil sludge on the engine valve covers. the manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 100,000.

We have experienced our 2004 dodge durango stalling at low speeds while in the process of turning the steering wheel. the dealer has said they could not find anything. i have seen an investigation on your site with the same problem for a 2005 model. this issue is becoming more frequent and it is scary when it happens. this has occurred 5 times in the past 6 months the most recent event was monday july 12, 2010. *tr

Purchased new 2004 durango limited 5.7 hemi: after 3 1/2 years and the warranty expiration, when driving in city traffic or highway and it starts raining the engine starts to hesitate violently, to the point it will stop. this occurs if the suv is parked in the rain and the engine is started. i have to wait for a few minutes then the engine will start, but have another heart attack as i drive down the road.. i have had fuse panel, engine wiring, ecm checked and no one can find any problems? the engine recently started missing and my scanner showed p0308 : i removed the spark plug, checked the coil, wiring, injector, spark plug ..all ok and erased the code: the engine has about 79,000 miles on it and is properly maintained and garaged at night.. a stalling engine in inclement weather is a very very dangerous thing that dodge/chrysler seems to be ignoring..the fact is evident that there are hundreds of dodge customers with the same dangerous problem i feel we should not be partners to dodge/chrysler's defective dangerous vehicles and intervention by our federal government based on the number of complaints should be implemented immediately. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. while driving at an unknown speed the contact stated that it seemed like the vehicle had a flat tire so it was pulled over. upon examining the vehicle there was no flat tire. the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop where the contact was informed a rod in the engine was broken and it punctured the transmisssion, which caused a fire. the vehicle was not serviced for the failure. the failure and current mileages were 85,000.

Traveling uphill at 65 mph traffic came to a halt, i removed my foot from the gas pedal to apply the brakes and then the engine stalled. i was in the fast lane, my speed at this point was 5 mph (coasting , no engine) i had to put the transmission in park and restarted the engine. this has happened once before with less than 10,000 miles in a simular stiuation. i also own two 2010 dodge challengers with the same type engine, i have spoken to many of the 2008-2011 challenger owners and they report the same thing happening. i believe that this stituation is wide spread troughout chrysler with the hemi engines, computer system. this can become a very dangerous situation and needs to be looked at. many of the people that i have spoken with, have mentioned this to their dealer's service department and chrysler, however they have not received any satisfaction to the problem. *tt

Engine failure at 70 mph - no warning, no prior engine problems. rod goes through side of block. 5.7 hemi. *tr

The piston broke and block the engine and caused the engine to seized. i got a 2004 hemi limited dodge durango. *tr

I bought my durango at a used dealers. it had 56000 miles one owner, 2010, center column panel over heated and you could smell plastic burning. the radio shut off the air condition controls well actually everything was so hot you had to turn off truck to let that center panel cool down before you could turn them off,the next thing i started hearing a bad shifting noise and it banged really loud like from the rear end i assumed. no matter if you were driving slow or fast the truck would downshift and sounding like a rod or something was going to come through the floor. i have all of the maintenance down when was told but this didn't help at the time the downshifting started it was 90,000 miles ,now i am at 93,000 -or 98,000 miles and something is really knocking to me i thought it might have been a fan hitting the radiator but not the case, it also stalls out in the rain and engine wont start until after rain has stopped, it stalls out on sunny days for no reason. you still here a thud noise or it downshifting hard at 15 miles an hour or if you go any speed it continues to down shift shaking the vehicle. the windshield washer button broken off from under the hood the rubber around the hood keeps falling off inside panel lights are shorting out. whats wrong with this truck good care fantastic vehicle love it but it has issues bad issues. not drivable 930000# *kb

2004 dodge durango 5.7 l hemi purchased in 03/05 w/34 miles on odometer. problem started with all dash lights illuminating and rpm/speed indicators briefly redlining; power loss followed by temp inability to start. last incident towed to mechanic who said engine had seized & that dodge has a problem w/this type of engine. engine completely locked & needs to be replaced. all recommended maintenance performed prior to failure incl'g oil changes every 3k miles. checked edmunds.com blogs & numerous complaints of exact same problem plus over 500 complaints to odi. out of warranty so chrysler refuses to acknowledge a problem. previous occurrence on highway at speeds >65 mph which caused loss of power steering but was able to navigate to roadside without incident. *tr

I have a 2004 dodge durango w/ a 5.7 hemi. drove this vehicle back and forth to work everyday without any problems. i loved this suv! it was by far the nicest vehicle i have ever owned. friends joked that i babied it more than i did my children. i took very good care of this vehicle mechanically and cosmetically. being an ex-mechanic, i am very aware of the necessity of regular maintenance. i parked the vehicle friday night and all day sat. wife went to go do the grocery shopping sun morning and claimed that the engine turned over a little and then there was a thunk noise and wouldn't restart. i went out and tried to start the durango. on the third try, the engine started. there was a loud clicking noise coming from the engine. it sounded like the bendix was stuck on the starter. i tried tapping on the starter to disengage it to no avail. i replaced the starter with a new one and got the same sound. i called a local mechanic about the problem and he came to my house to hear the problem. when we started the engine, the noise was noticeably louder. after an hour of crawling around under the vehicle it appeared to be an internal engine problem. on further inspection we found a small crack on the drivers side of the block. i can not afford to have the engine replaced even though i am still making payments, insurance, and tags. after all the other research i have done and the hundreds of people i have found with this same problem, i just don't understand why chrysler hasn't released a recall. i was very lucky that this didn't happen while traveling down the highway. the durango has approx. 95,000 miles on it. this type of failure should not be happening this early to this amount of any vehicle. updated 08/23/11 *tr

Vehicle engine started knocking, the vehicle lost power and shut off. took to a mechanic and diagnosed it as a camshaft failure. the car does not start. *tr

Suv would stall while driving then start back up. heard a ticking noise when turned key over, then heard a loud noise and louder ticking then engine gave out. looked under suv and there was oil and pieces of the metal on the ground. towed it to a shop and was told engine failed due to internal engine failure most likely due to piston. mechanic showed me a hole in the engine block. 2004 dodge durango with apprx. 86,000 miles. also told that whatever happened with the engine destroyed the starter as well. replaced both the engine and the starter. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. while traveling at speeds of 35 mph, the vehicle would stall without warning. the dealer advised the cam and crank sensors would need to be replaced. there were no repairs made to the vehicle. the current mileage was 49,800 and the failure mileage was 49700. updated 05/18/2010. *lj

2004 dodge durango 4x4 w/5.7 hemi engine. catastrophic engine failure: all service performed as per manufacturers specifications at an authorized dodge dealer. turned the ignition to start the truck and heard a loud noise. afterward, the ignition would not turn over and the vehicle made a ticking sound. had the truck towed to the dealer thinking it may be a failed battery. after replacing the battery (the service technician also suspected a battery) the car failed to hold a charge. upon further inspection on the rack the mechanic identified a significant hole in the engine block and a significant crack in the transmission to engine interface. the mechanic deduced that as an engine component blew, the force of which shorted the battery, the starter and cracked the transmission interface. after removing the battery, the terminal to the negative ground was dislodged, the battery was bulging at the sides, and the engine is dead. chrysler motor company says they have no prior knowledge of any problems with hemi engines, and given the car is out of warranty..sorry nothing they can do. this is a problem that exists and is documented on nhtsa and other public forums. the option presented by chrysler is $5500 plus labor for a re-manufactured engine. estimated labor is $1900. the dealer doesn't get much of a break from chrysler for this engine, but gets all the hassle for the shoddy work the company sells. this is a heavy duty truck, an engine should not die at 125,000 miles. *tr

My 2004 dodge durango (5.7 l) shut off while my husband was driving it. we were making a left hand turn into a parking lot and the truck shut off. he barely missed hitting another car because the steering and the brakes went out. it took 4 tries to get the truck started back up. this has happened to me 2 others times when i was sitting at a red light, thankfully i was not driving. the truck also stalls out everytime there is a heavy rain. the check engine light has not come on so every dealership i've spoken to says that there is nothing that can be done about it, but they are aware there is a problem. i use this truck to drive my children everywhere and i do not understand how this problem has not been addressed. *tr

2004 dodge durango 5.7 stalling at low speeds at intersections. starts up right away but causes a safety hazard when stuck in the middle of the road with traffic coming. happened 1 time about a month after i purchased the vehicle in 2007. has happened 4 times in the last month. *tr

When driving at low speeds it stalls. i am able to restart it but it is not always easy to tell when it has stalled, because all electrical things still work radio, lights, etc. steering wheel does lock though and it takes almost a minute to get it into neutral and start it again. also while driving as you press the gas pedal it acts as though it is going to die and then lunges forward. i have not yet corrected either of these issues. *tr

After having bought the car used from a dealer i worked for checking to see that was one owner and service records were on file with another local dealer. vehicle had been properly serviced and was continued to be serviced thru a dodge dealer at 98,564 miles with no warning at all the motor threw a rod thru the side of the block. replacement was made costing us $7000, none of which chrysler would take responsibility for. now 2 years later we are approaching 82000 miles on the 2nd motor again maintinanced properly and i'm experiencing that i can be driving on the interstate or anywhere and it will just die. i have 4 kids this is our main transportation and it is very dangerous as there is no steering or brakes when this happens. please hold chrysler accountable for these problems as your sight reflects over 650 complaints for the same things on this particular vehicle!! does someone have to die prior to them being held responsible?! *tr

I do not know what happened this feels like this dream. one day my truck is running great and then bam oil every where. one day i started my truck up after about two weeks of letting it sit in the drive way and it had a ticking noise so i immediately turned it off. i called a mechanic he checked it and said it was a sticky lifter.i then called dodge to get professional advice because my mechanic is not a certified dodge mechanic. a service adviser at dodge dealership on rt 112 in medford and he told me that if the problem started while the truck was sitting, to just start the truck and let it run for a while. so i did and maybe five minutes of it being on and ticking i heard a noise and saw oil on the ground. now what do i do.........i have a hole in the engine block and a fully paid piece of junk. i have records of all my regular oil changes this truck was my baby i took great care of it, i loved it and its dead. i'm not the only one with this truck and this problem when will dodge own up to its responsibility and recall the 5.7 motor .it breaks my heart every morning walking by my 2004 dodge durango to start up my old beat up 97 nissan pathfinder with 246k its sad to say that this rusted old piece of junk gives me no problems with its motor or transmission, but my new truck crapped out at 116,000 cars not are suppose to die after 100k especially heavy duty trucks. i never even got the opportunity to carry a load or tow something. dodge made it seem like this was something that was suppose to happen because the truck has 100k...that makes no sense to me and i wish i would have done more research on this truck. but right now i just pray that dodge helps me out with this problem. this is my family vehicle that i invested hard earned cash into and now it is just sitting in my driveway rotting away. can someone please help? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. the contact stated that water penetrated the engine numerous times causing the vehicle to stall. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic that located the failure at the windshield cowscreen. the manufacturer denied assistance with the repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 150,000.

Vehicle upon exiting interstate blew the engine. steering and braking functions were disabled. 4,000lb suv remained uncontrollable until it careened into an embankment. someone has to do something. there are countless people with this same issue of engine failure with the same engine. is there nothing that can be done? we paid large amounts of money to support chrysler and their is no positive return for the buyer. please see link http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f1dd4b2. *tr

2004 dodge durango slt with 5.7l hemi engine. engine only has 114,000 miles and has been meticulously maintained. upon starting the car on 11/20/2009 the engine suddenly without any prior warning broke a rod and punched two holes in my oil pan. after researching this on the internet and contacting dodge this is a common problem with the 2004 model that was fixed on the 2005 model. chrysler refuses to repair any defective engines that are out of warranty even thought they admit to the engine having a problem. *tr

While slowing down, or at stop light, or starting to accelerate, the engine cuts out with out warning. usually while taking my kids to school. this is very dangerous, it happens a few times a week. i have done my own research and it seems to be a major problem. dodge has done nothing to correct the issue and probably wont until some one dies. its a shame that some one has to die to get the attention of the right people to solve the problem. i have read so many complaints about this problem that i am disgusted with dodge. i loved my truck until this started. some one needs to act on this and get dodge to take responsibility before someone dies. *tr

I have a 2004 dodge durango 5.7l v8 with 74,000 miles on it. every couple of weeks the engine stalls without any prior warning. the vehicle just shuts off and i can't use the brakes to stop or anything. i've taken it to the dealership on multiple occasions but they keep telling me they can't find anything wrong. i've read several other complaints from owners of this vehicle experiencing the same problem. i don't feel safe driving the vehicle. luckily, i haven't been in an accident yet, but i'm fearful that it's only a matter of time before i am in an accident due to the engine stalling. *tr

2004 dodge durango 5.7 hemi dies when coming to a stop or in reverse happening several times a day for past eight months. dealer did a reflash but it did not fix it. *tr

2004 dodge durango, equipped with 5.7l v8 hemi, stalls sporadically with no advanced warning. the engine can generally be restarted immediately with little or no modification to the vehicle's configuration. when the engine stalls occur, all power steering and braking functions are rendered inoperative. stalling events appear to be unrelated to weather conditions, or usage of automobile functions (i.e. air conditioning, radio, etc.). most instances occur during low speed maneuvers, to include parking lot and driveway operations, and pulling away from stop signs or traffic lights. however, on several occasions, stalling has occurred during straight-forward driving, with little or no maneuvering on freeway or city streets. *tr

2004 dodge durango 5.7 hemi slt, stalls with no warning. usually stalls while slowing down at an intersection or when making a turn. has stalled on the freeway. happening for over a year on and off. dealer said nothing wrong with vehicle. also stalls while backing up. *tr

I have had the cam position sensor fail approx. 5 times. when the sensor fails or starts to fail the check engine light will come on intermittently and occasionally while the light is on the engine will shut off when the engine shuts off the brakes will not work. the said situation when the brakes will not work has occurred 7 times. at times the check engine light will light up and be not lit when the truck is restarted. on one occasion my wife was driving the truck, the light came on for the cam sensor, the engine shut off, the brakes would not work and she rolled through an intersection unable to stop the vehicle. *tr

The vehicle dies when i decelerate or turning in to my driveway. the vehicle has also died driving down the highway at 40 or 50 mph. i have felt the vehicle cutting out as i'm driving on the highway at 60 mph. when stopped at a stop light, it feels like it is going to die, and i have to give it some gas with the accelerator pedal so it won't die. recently, it died as i was turning in the driveway at work, and it took six times of trying to start it before it would start again.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. the contact stated that the vehicle has been randomly overheating. the failure occurs while the vehicle is being driven between 30- 55 mph. the contact must pull the vehicle over and wait for it to cool down. if the doors on the vehicle are opened for more than five minutes, the vehicle will not start. in order for it to restart, the vehicle must be jumped with jumper cables. the vehicle has not yet been taken to the dealer. through online research, the contact found nhtsa campaign id number 07v092000 (electrical system: instrument panel). the manufacturer stated that the recall did not apply to her vehicle. the failure mileage was 40,000 and current mileage was 80,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 dodge durango. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the engine was replaced. a year after the failure occurred, the contact was driving 50 mph when the vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired when the complaint was filed. the failure mileage was approximately 61,000. the current mileage was approximately 73,000. updated 06/29/10 *bf the consumer stated the second engine failed at 73,000 miles. the #1 cylinder was found in the oil pan in pieces. the dealer stated a foreign object may have been in the cylinder head, but could not find positive proof. updated 07/16/10.*jb

The vehicle stalls without warning in different driving conditions. it has happened multiple times and it seems to be getting worse. in two cases, accidents were close to occurring if it were not for the other vehicle's ability to stop or swerve around. the power steering in the vehicle stops, which is the first indication that the vehicle has stalled. there is no power and the vehicle shuts off. the vehicle turns on again with no problems and we are able to proceed without problems until it happens again. it usually doesn't happen within the same trip, at least it hasn't happened yet. *tr

Suv stalls while driving or stopping, ruff idle. this thing is a death trap, have you ever tried stopping or steering while the car is not running, not safe and i have kids, save lives and fix this before someone gets killed.. *tr

Hello i have a 2004 dodge durango hemi 5.7 and it stalls while driving and sometimes at stop lights,it stalled today while driving almost causing me to crash. it has done this several times.. *tr

The problem started about a month ago, i had experienced my car overheating in the winter with temperatures in the teens. i took the vehicle (dodge durango) to my local dealer, he stated he will run a diagnostics report, 3 days later he called me to say the vehicle if fine, however he noticed the fan ran slow therefore he decided to replace the fan clutch and a belt also replaced the thermostat, i paid him 600.00 dollars and within 3 days it's overheated again and i had to return the vehicle back to the dealer. he stated he will look at it and he cannot make any promises. i declined to let them service the car. i have now placed it in the hands of my mechanic, after several days trying to trouble shoot this problem he replaced the water pump, this would not relieve the problem, after many hour on the internet i came across a review that suggested the problem was with the radiator. we decided to replace the radiator; the mechanic discovered the radiator was not able to support the engine capacity, which caused it to overheat. *tr

Recently our durango began making a loud ticking noise at initial start up of the vehicle, which would decrease and ultimately go away as the car warmed up. i took my car to my local service shop (not dodge) to have other work performed and asked them to try and determine the cause of the problem. the said that the back two bolts connect the manifold to the block of the engine and the heads of the bolts that secure the heat shield were broken. they instructed me to contact the dealer because it looked as if the heads of the bolts and the bolts themselves had just broken off, probably due to heat from the engine. my vehicle has 68,000 miles so i called to see if it was covered under the 70,000 mile warranty. without looking at the car, they told me that someone had to have broken the bolts off, because that just wouldn't occur. i told them that the engine had never been worked on other that routine maintenance. they said they would not cover it because i have not used them for other service, so they did not know if the bolts had been broken off by someone else. i paid for the repairs and they started the vehicle and the same two bolts on the passenger side have the same issue and is causing the same noise. when questioned about this, they stuck to their initial response that someone in the past has broken the bolts, even though i stressed again that no other work had been done on the engine or exhaust. when asked to have the owner of the dealership give me a call concerning the issue, the call was never returned. so, i guess i am going to have to pay to have the repairs made to the passenger side as well, even though it seems to be an issue with the bolts that were used to secure the manifold and the heat shield. *tr
