We have classified the 25 complaints from 1999 Dodge Durango about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Abs parking brake light on. no code comes through scanner. transmission drags and shifts improperly throughout. during slippery snow conditions not able to brake with abs is very dangerous for my family and others on the road. there are many reviews regarding this issue with the dodge durango and this should be a very important matter due to all the dodge durangoso on the road. i have been to a couple mechanics that don't exactly know what the actual problem is and that is not ok. safety first!
I was driving 60 miles a hour on montauk highway in ny, vehicle just shuts off, no codes or lights, and then after pulling over, and almost getting killed, losing engine power and power steering. it then shows no bus error on dash, after it cools down, it restarts. it happens several times, and it was the pcm. apparently, this is happening to thousands of durango's, rams, and other chrysler vehicle. i did a google search. this is a super unsafe problem, and i cant understand why it has not been recalled. there are thousands being replaced. please investigate this super dangerous problem. *tr
Engine shutdown, out of the blue. nobus appeared on odometer. all gauges were on 0, but all other electronics worked. starter would crank, but ignition would not ignite. i'm not sure if fuel pump went on or not. vehicle would not start back up for apx 20 minutes. a couple days later, it happened again, then twice in one day. the quickest, but temporary, solution is to cool down pcm. an ice pack works great! but this is not always convenient. needless to say, problem is worse on hot days. once this happens, you need to replace pcm because solder joints are broken within. when unit cools, metal contracts, and contact is made again, and truck will start. but keep in mind-the solder joints are still broken. when unit heats back up, metal will expand, and connection will be lost again, causing engine shutdown and no bus to electrical ignition system. the very first time this happened, i had gone over a bump, which is probably what initially "broke" the solder joint. a new pcm can run $400. one from a junk yard could work, but there's always the risk that, it too, has the same problem-maybe that's why the truck is in the junkyard to begin with! and if it was in front end collision, good chance it won't be any good either! i've owned my durango for 13 years, and it has never really left me stranded. but now that it has this problem, combined with bad design of front hub assy, vehicle is very unsafe and it's time to retire it - even though motor still runs strong. *tr
Vehicle stalled at 60mph. speed and tach went to zero. vehicle wouldn't start. would start after cooling down about 20 minutes. would stall again. same thing over and over again. finally it stalled for good. had it towed to dodge dealer. dealer said the problem was the pcm. paid $2000 to have pcm installed with a new ignition coil. it lasted about 4 hours and 200 miles and it stalled again. samething over again. had it towed to another dodge dealer paid an additional $260 had another ignition coil installed and it still doesn't run right. the dash warning lights come on intermittently, the security system engages for no reason and continues to stall. dodge can't seem to find the cause of the problem, can't fix the problem, or simply doesn't care. my vehicle currently won't start and is grounded. all this after almost $2500 repairs from dodge that didn't fix the problem. i have all the repair invoices from the dealers. *tr
Vehicle shuts down unexpectedly. was traveling 55mph down a crowded two lane highway. the vehicle just shut down. no steering no brakes. feared for my life. *tr
Just started shutting of after it runs about 5 min or it is over 75 degrees my wife was driving and she did not no what to do i told her to coast to side of road and called to get towed in got it home and it started right up but died a few min after that again still don't have it fixed , we do not have the money it cost for the parts need something done there is a lot of problems from what i red about these problems on the dodge durangos have 2 dodge trucks and never had any problems so they really should be a recall on them. *tr
Vehicle dies with no notice, problem is pcm. this is a widely known problem with several years of the dodge products. the pcm fails and the car can lose power while in operation. this is a dangerous situation because the car can lose power while operating on the highway or at any speed! dodge refuses to acknowledge the problem. a replacement pcm is reported to resolve the problem temporarily. some complaints indicate that it's an overheating issue, however mine stalls and dies in various weather conditions. usually, i can unplug the connectors to the pcm and plug them back in to reset the computer and the vehicle will start and run again for a period of time. since this problem is so unpredictable, the car is not safe to have on the road. *kb
Warm weather the engine quits. 3 time within two weeks driving 65-70 mph on highway while pulling a boat all 3 times. the problem is the pcm on the passengers side of the engine compartment. gets to hot and shuts the engine down. no brakes, no steering! this problem is documented in dodge forums thousands of times with everyone quoting the exact same issues with nothing being done nor any fixes that will work. *tr
Car shuts down randomly when driving, in various weather conditions (hot, cold, warm, wet, etc) problem is with over heating pcm - see other peoples issues here http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/durango/1999/electrical/vehicle_shuts_down_without_warning.shtml *kb
1999 dodge durango---while out driving during the hotter months, the truck would just shut down while i was driving. the brakes stopped working, the steering wheel stopped working and the odometer read "no bus". when i finally stopped the car by running into a curb, it would not start for another 30 minutes. finally got it started and two miles down the road, it happened again. after talking to other durango owners, i was directed to change the pcm. well that is a $1000.00 job. it was explained to me that the pcm box over heats because of where it is placed under the hood. that section where the pcm box is is not receiving any air flow to keep it cool. the cooling fins are nested too close to the body of the truck. this is a manufacturing problem and should be recalled . this is a safety issue, because you cannot control the car when it shuts down. you also have no warning that the car is getting ready to shut down. the first time it shut down my kids where in the car with me and we were on a very busy expressway. we were almost rear-ended. and we almost rear ended the car in front of us. please, please i beg dodge to check into this. i know that there have been several complaints on this truck because of this issue. i hope it does not take someone's death before the company steps up and takes responsibility for the manufacturing of this vehicle. *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 1999 dodge durango. the contact stated that the vehicle would stall spontaneously and without warning. the dealer diagnosed that the power train control module (pcm) was defective. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 125,000.
1999 dodge durango. stall out while driving for no reason! look at some of these websites.... http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/durango/1999/electrical/vehicle_shuts_down_without_warning.shtml 120 complaints of the same nature! do something about this!!!! *tr
I bought a 1999 dodge durango slt 5.2 ltr engine as of 3 to 4 yrs ago, and in some cases like mine, it absolutely does mean it can be an absolutely unreliable & absolute dangerous vehicle!!!!! ..everything that can happen, has happened to this vehicle. engine stalls out, the front differential exploded on the highway 4 miles after i had to put in 4 wheel drive & almost caused me to wreck,i had to replace the whole front differential axles.. the back (rear) breaks have never worked since i bought the thing, the exhaust manifolds got so hot that the bolts that connect it to the manifold pipes burned off and is now, and has been sitting for a month since i can't keep it together. right now all three of my front brake lines have rotted into, at the connector from the master cylinder that sends the fluid to the front 2 wheels!!.. that's just the start of all of the terrible danger that it poses to me and other drivers on the road. this vehicle should be considered a complete recall of the 1999 dodge durango slt. the dodge manufacture should not get by with this. its almost like selling a device to get hurt in. i paid over 4,000.00 for this durango, just to spend that much more money and the chance of getting hurt or worse while having it rebuilt where it is suppose to be safe. ....other things that have stopped working also.. motor oil & transmission leaks & slips, windows (2 of them) have stopped working up & down, glove box latch broke, ash tray broke off, rear hatch will not open, hatch wiper shorted out, front end tires spraddle out like they are going 2 different directions, the paint finish has completely faded from the hood & starting in other places, starter solenoid clicks 10 to 30 times before it will crank the engine...there is more also!.. this is not a safe vehicle!! i have never had trouble like this with any other automobile in all of my 45 driving years. *tr
Engine failure , dodge durango, complete loss of power and very dangerous, computer is mounted under hood next to motor and over heats and shuts down the vehicle. it needs to be remounted inside the cab of vehicle. *tr
Back in the summer of 2008 i was having issues with my 1999 dodge durango shutting off for no reason. i did some online searching and found the pcm,ecm unit was over heating, after cooling it with an ice pack for 5 minutes the car would start again. after 3 months i finally bought i rebuilt pcm on ebay, they programmed the unit for my car and it ran better then ever. well today 6/4/2010 don't you know it did it again but this time the unit is completely dead, i still have the old unit and popped that in and wow it started. we need to fight dodge on this to relocate the pcm on the firewall near the battery where it stays cool. all the heat from the engine is blown to that side of the car causing this issue. how to do we get dodge to fix this like others have said someone will get hurt and i hate to trash a car with only 74,000 miles on it. *tr
1999 dodge durango, heard a noise under vehicle and stopped on berm where vehicle fire observed. *bf according to fire department officials, it appeared the vehicle had broken transmission parts. (ohio traffic crash report # 10-0244-91)*jb updated 08/05/10 *bf
Transmission in my 1999 dodge durango has begun to slip and its pulling hard. it won't go into 2nd or 3rd without me depress the gas pedal. i've tried transmission fix lubricant, changed the fluid and filter, and tuneup. i've been reading from several websites that people are having the same problem with the transmission and dodge won't do anything about it. people work too hard to have their vehicles maintained and getting a rebuilt or brand new one will cost thousands of dollars that normal people like myself don't have. is it anything you can do about this so that people like myself can have a peace of mind knowing that the transmission is in working condition and its safe. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 1999 dodge durango. while driving at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the contact was able to restart the vhicle after waiting approximately forty minutes. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the mechanic stated the engine would have to be rebuilt. the contact had the vehicle repaired, however, the failure continued. the contact believed there was a failure with the pcm module in the transmission. the approximate failure mileage was 152,305.
Component: electrical system details: i own a 1999 dodge durango it has 130000 miles on for the past 2 months it just shuts off no power to gauges and engine dies just like i turned the engine off doesn't matter where you are just have to wait about 30 min and will start back up this is very dangerous to my family after searching the web for this problem i noticed several other people have the same problem this happens daily several mechanics have looked for the problem but it has not been found dodge needs to step up to the plate and repair there defective vehicles. last year i had to replaced the master brain was told this was the problem. now one year later after the warranty is out it is doing it again, no one can find out why it is cutting out again, been in shop several time with told nothing is wrong. i have had this 1999 dodge durango since 1999 and always taken care of it as far as maintenance goes. someone please tell me what is causing the problem. i do not want another suv to roll over because of cutting out and not being able to control the suv. i bought a dodge because this happen once to my ford and i almost lost my family (3 children and husband) that time. i did lose the full use of my left hand. this problem need to be taken care of please help i see i am not the only one. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 1999 dodge durango. the contact stated that while driving at low speeds, she attempted to make a turn and the vehicle independently wandered out of the lane. the contact was able to regain control of the vehicle and continue driving. the failure recurred whenever the contact was traveling in rainy weather. a certified mechanic inspected the vehicle however, the diagnosis was not provided to the contact. in addition, the transmission failed to shift out of gear properly. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000. updated 01/09/15*lj the consumer stated the pcm was replaced and the transmission shifts. driving in the rain proved to hazardous especially when braking or turning. updated 6/2/2015 *js
1999 dodge durango-so many problems with this vehicle. had to replace the computer due to overheating-common problem i hear. now the upper and lower ball joints are bad and need replaced or my tires could fall off? lots of information that this is an extremely common problem and very very dangerous. other years of derange have been recalled because of ball joints being bad. i have not had an accident yet and am hoping not to. can't afford all these repairs for things that seem to be a common issue with this vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 1999 dodge durango. the contact stated that as he started the vehicle, the brake, check engine, and anti lock brake warning lights all illuminated. the contact was able to drive the vehicle but with very limited power. the vehicle was resistant to acceleration yet the engine exhibited an abnormal increase in rpms. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the contact was told that the transmission would need to be rebuilt. the transmission was rebuilt. the brake and check engine lights continued to illuminate and the vehicle was taken to a second independent repair shop where the brakes were replaced. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 140,000.
I own a 1999 dodge durango, and like many, almost scary amounts of other dodge customers, am having numerous issues with this vehicle which provide extreme safety hazards to the drivers and occupants. one of which is an upper ball joint issue, which was recalled on the 2000 model year, but not other years with the same design flaw. another of which is the automatic transmission not shifting properly, or at all rendering the vehicle 'in neutral' at times while in traffic. also, a problem, which is starting to occur involves the vehicle to shut down out of nowhere in traffic, leaving the driver to try to navigate this beast to the side of the road without power brakesw/steering etc. if you search the internet, you will find literally thousands of people with these problems, severely endangering every man, woman and child who occupy these trucks. dodge dealers constantly give owners a runaround and deny they have heard any other claims of these problems. these trucks are unsafe! chrysler needs to know that, and do something about it! *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1999 dodge durango. while the vehicle was parked at a boat dock, it shifted out of park and into reverse. the vehicle landed in the water. the vehicle was declared to be destroyed by the contact's insurance company. there were no injuries, but a police report was filed. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id numbers 01v077000 and 07v555000 for the 2001 dodge durango for the automatic transmission column shift component. the dealer did not assist and the manufacturer has not been notified. the contact stated that he could provide the police report and original production sticker, if necessary. the current and failure mileages were 136,000. updated 11/25/08. *lj updated 1125/08. *jb
My 1999 dodge durango would shut down and all the gauges would go to "0." lost power steering and power brakes. my wife almost had a t-bone crash with a semi truck in orem, ut. after doing my research, it is obvious that dodge failed in their responsibility to the consumer. the pcm (powertrain control module) goes bad in specifically the 1999 durango's and below are a bunch of testimonies that it is a common problem. this is dangerous and someone could end up dead. - http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic91464.htm - http://www.carsurvey.org/viewmorecomments_review_41149_4.html - http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/durango/1999/electrical/vehicle_shuts_down_without_warning.shtml the below website will show that this is the biggest problem with the 1999 dodge durango. http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/durango/1999/electrical/index.shtml i just spent over $1,000 replacing my pcm to fix the problem. mor importantly, my wife and kids almost got in an accident. i would like to see this recalled, as it could potentially cause death or injury. this problem should be fixed by dodge as a recall, not by the consumer. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1999 dodge durango. the contact stated that the vehicle has failed without warning on several occasions. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle failed and shut off without any given notice. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop and several unknown repairs were made at the cost of $1,000. the vehicle failed again after the repairs were made. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the battery cables failed. the vehicle was repaired again at the cost of $150. the vehicle has continued to fail after the repairs were made to the battery and battery cables. the vehicle was taken to the dealer again and they stated that the pcm failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer stated that no compensation would be made because the dealer stated that the vehicle has not had any failures besides the battery cables, battery, and pcm being replaced. the contact was advised to call the manufacturer back for further assistance if the failure recurs. the failure mileage was 75,000 and current mileage was 80,000.
While driving at 65 mph heard a loud noise and smoke coming from under the suv with loss of speed. pulled over and saw a fire. i put it our and had the truck towed. upon returning home and inspecting the transmission it was split all the way around and was spraying transmission fluid on the exhaust. transmission was replaced and new dodge transmission lasted 7 months and lost reverse. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1999 dodge durango. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle struck a light pole while attempting to avoid crashing into two other vehicles. the drivers side air bag failed to deploy and the contact sustained a large bump on his head and a cut on his upper lip. the contact has a police report and the report of the damage to his vehicle. the vin, purchase date, and engine size were unknown. the current mileage is 167,883 and failure mileage was 1676,833. the consumer stated have been through alot with this vehicle prior to the incident he has had the engine replaced twice in the car and rebuilt the transmission prior to the car having 38000 miles on it and now he has a defective air bag. the consumer stated would like chrysler to pay the remaining balance on the car. the consumer provided pictures of the vehicle. updated 07/10/07 *tr
I had been experiencing vibration throughout vehicle while driving so i took to our mechanic. had to replace all four ball joints and u-joint and get an alignment. i now have a lot of play in the steering , and am constantly correcting it just to go straight. had looked at again and they could not find any problems. i found out that the ball joints had been recalled for years 2000-2003 ,but why not 1999?? *ak
1.engine increased in rpms without properly shifting into 3rd gear, have to let off throttle entirely to allow transmission to shift 2. transmission is starting to fail 3. tbd whether or not to sell or salvage
Over the last three years of operating the vehicle (2005-2007): 1. fire in the front wheel assembly after 1.5 hours of 4-wheel drive - 1100$ replace 2. speed sensor failure ($500 work) 3. engine failure on the highway @80 mph - $7000 replace and other costs, lucky survived 4. joint balls replace (about 400$) 5. ac failure ($960 repair) 6. now parked - transmission/engine joint oil leak, estimated $1200 repair. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 1999 dodge durango. at 30 mph the gear shift malfunctioned and the contact was unable to shift gears. once the contact's foot was removed from the accelerator pedal the vehicle began to shift gears properly. the mechanic stated that a new transmission was needed. the failure mileage was 129000.*ak
Pcm failure. was driving on highway at 75mph when i lost all power( i.e. steering, brakes, etc.) and the engine died. tried restarting and the odometer flashed a warning code. 30 minutes later it started. i only got about two miles away and it happened again. contacted local dodge dealer and they said that it was a fairly common thing but since my warranty was over that i was on my own. a week later i was driving it and the same problem happened. this time i ended up in a ditch because i lost the ability to stop and steer. i replaced the pcm and the problem was resolved. it should have been covered by dodge seeing that there are over 300 cases alone that people have put on the web about this exact issue. does someone have to die or something for dodge to take credit for their mistake? 4 months ago the abs system went out as well. again, found that 100's have reported this same issue to dodge. *tr
Car stalls, idles erratically and stalls when falls below 500 rpms. a/c blows hot air when idles falls below 1000 rpms. this has been happening for months, no rhyme or reason, no codes. sometimes so bad that car stalls as soon as you let off of the accelerator to go around a curve. when will a recall be issued? there is obviously a problem. dodge needs to step up to the plate. does someone have to die before its fixed? do a search on the internet. complaint are everywhere.
Going down the road and occasionally at 50 mph the entire vehicle would turn off no power anywhere. repair shop could not duplicate problem, finally after 2 weeks at the shop they said it needed a new power train control module. the computer number they gave me is a re-manufactured number. so the power train had already been replaced. this vehicle was purchased with 24,000 miles in 2001. now the cost just for the part is $535.60. that makes 2 power train control modules for 1 vehicle. *jb
My dodge durango (1999) started stalling at random times two summers ago. it took me many trips to the dealer and alot of research on the internet and a yell fest with the dodge field rep. but i got it fixed. they had no idea what was wrong with it, it is the pcm(power control module).....finally convinced them they didn't want a lawsuit on their hands if my family was killed due to this major defect in durangos, mainly 1999 from what i have read. pcm replaced, no problems with stalling since. *tr
I have e a 1999 5.9 liter 4x4 dodge durango. this spring it began to just stall out intermittently. it will turn over but not crank for sometime 30 minutes but then suddenly start and run fine until it stalls again. it will stall while driving with no warning. it is july 25th and it has been in the shop all summer with no codes being found. i have had it in 4 shops now the third being the dealership and they said something no one else said and wanted a ton of money to fix and i took it for second opinion and they said the dealer was wrong. as it is i have about $1000.00 in parts that have been changed trying to fix this and now they are saying it is the pcm. i am at my witts end because i do not have my car and it is very unsafe when i do have it because there is no warning when it stalls it just suddenly dies and you loose steering and brake power. it is very dangerous. i have searched the internet and found tons of the same troubles with other people. i think a recall is needed because dodge must know of this issue. the dealers all want different prices to change the pcm and when you call looking for them around the country suppliers say they can not keep them in stock for the dodges. please help!! *nm
Dt*: the contact stated that the engine malfunctioned in the vehicle as early as june first of 2005. the vehicle was taken to the dealers and left with them for one week to under-go diagnostic testing. the dealer determined through the testing that the problem was pertaining to the fuel pump and replaced the part. the vehicle began to experience more problems concerning stalling and all the warning lights illuminating. the vehicle was taken back to the dealers who replaced the water pump. one week later, the vehicle experienced similar problems including water dripping from the bottom of the motor. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced gasket of the water pump. the vehicle stalled while driving on the highway during morning rush hour traveling at 30 mph. it was towed to the dealer who determined that the #3 cylinder had no compression, the coolant was coming out of the freeze plug, transmission fluid was dripping and the motor was shot. there were no further services done to the vehicle due to the extensive costs.
I purchased a 1999 durango in jan of 2000. i have had numerous problems including rebuilding the transmission. my biggest complaint is the engine sludge and spark knock. i have had the oil pump and screen replaced twice as well as the upper intake gaskets. it is my understanding that the upper intake gaskets leak internally causing oil consumption, spark knock, and eventually oil sludge and engine failure. chrysler should do something about the thousands of vehicles that are experiencing these issues. *jb
Defective joints & tie rods, faulty oil pump, transmission shifting problems, faulty water pump, bad rotors. *nm
I have a 1999 dodge durango with 73,000 miles. we had the transmission replaced and other major repairs done to it last year. since then it has given us nothing but trouble. this car is our family car so we travel everywhere with the kids in the back. it has stalled and died on us often. at times on the freeway in the middle of traffic and other times in the middle of intersections. the power steering goes and so do the brakes. i have been lucky so far in avoiding accidents. the mechanics can not find out what is wrong with it so nothing is done about it. the fuel lines have been checked and replaced and so has the fuel pump and the same problem continues. *jb
I have had repeated problems with my '99 dodge durango that started with the engine light going on in september 27, 2005 and is now the need for a new cpm. the car intermittent stalls while riding down the road at 55mph or after idling at stop light & turning left (power steering goes out and car blocks intersection/traffic) - "no bus" appears on mileage, everything shuts off. seems to happens on days when the environmental temperature exceeds 75 degrees and disappears once car has sat (wherever it stalled) for 20-30minutes. no diagnostic code appears when put the car is put on the computer and i was advised by more then one dealership that the problem had to get worse and produce a code before dealership or anyone else could diagnose the problem. now that the 8 yr federal powertrain warranty has expired for me, it seems the problem is &always was that the powertrain control module (pcm) is malfunctioning &needs to be replaced. this major component is covered thru 8yrs/80,000 mi by federal law but even though problem began prior to 8th year, because this problem was not diagnosed until after my 8 yrs had been exceeded, it is now my $800-$1200 bill to pay (since sept '05, have replaced most components of coolant system, intake manifold pan gasket, head gasket &still have problem with alignment/ball joints& repeated window modulator problems). *tr
In january of 05 had to have both upper and lower ball joints replaced, control arm, front brakes and new tires as a result of bad f/e suspension. now today the speed sensor (and i am hoping that's it) has gone out on the transmission. i have had two window motor failures, a sudden drop in oil pressure causing the truck to stall and there is something wrong with the electrical system. there have been many complaints in regards to these failures and the dodge durango and although they have recalled other dodge trucks for these issues - they have yet to have recalled the 1999. i have contacted dodge since january of this year regarding this issue and they responded telling me that they hadn't had enough complaints to issue a recall. i find this hard to believe seeing all the complaints made to nhtsa and to consumer affairs in regards to this year and model. i also believe that the dodge dealer i bought this truck from (used) sold it to me knowing of these problems - although this i doubt i could ever prove. i am thankful that the front wheels stayed on as long as they did as i have read of the ball joint issue causing wheel separation. this could have been a deadly situation for my family (4 small children - we rely on this as our only transportation) and i hope that the problem is fixed but have serious doubts. *nm
Transmission not shifting right, engine reving to high. transmission had to b transmission went out 2nd gear bad not shifting right. transmission had to be rebuilt, this car had only 67000 miles on it. transmission was serviced at 35000 miles never had trouble before.i think transmission should holdup longer than this. also car har idle problem when engine is warm after restart, when coming to a stop at redlight car idles ruff acts like it wants to die. when driving more smooths out, runs fine then? this car has always been serviced on time! last year was in to dealer twice for hard start & idle problems! spent over $500.00 for air idle speed part & r throttle posloch! seems to me computor parts should holdup longer! t
Dt: consumer states: the upper and lower ball joints on the front end on both sides are completely gone. vehicle shakes and rattles uncontrollably. bought used a year and half ago, also, the u joints were replaced 2 weeks after purchase. have to have both hands on the wheel to control. talked to chrysler , and they recognized there was a problem, and will pay for upper ball joints, consumer will hav eto pay for lower joints and labor.*ak
At christmastime our transmission began acting up. we believed the harsh winter weather was causing the problem bc once the engine heated up, the vehicle drove just fine. at any rate, we took in to be serviced in march and had the 4x4 rear differentials flushed and serviced and the fluid changed. while it was in for that repair (at a dealership) they called and said the 2 front ball joints needed to be replaced. we knew about the recall, so asked them about it, but it just figures our vin was not included. so, $1600 later, we went and picked it up and seemed to drive just fine. well, then 3 wks. later i was driving to the grocery store. i was stopped a red light, and when it turned green i went to go and it just barely accelerated. luckily, the red light was right in front of the garage we normally use. i was able to turn the vehicle around and get it to where i was parked in front of the garage. i went in and told the mechanic what happened. the truck was in the shop for 2 wks. it needed a new transmission after having just been serviced! it cost $3300! over the past 2 months we have spent $4600 in repairs on a vehicle that we are still paying for! i am irrate! we even bought the extended warranty when we purchased the vehicle 5 yrs. ago, but now with 108,000 miles it's not covered any longer (warranty only went to 100,000). 2 yrs. ago i was involved in an accident with durango where the front drivers side wheel popped off after another vehicle hit it. we don't believe he could have hit it with enough force for that to happen if it had not been defective to begin with. his wife even spoke to me about this last christmas after the recall came out. i am fed up with this truck and i want dodge to know it.
Started with rebuilt transmission, then sludged in motor. had to replace motor with only 120,000 miles motor and transmission 5,000. also had to replace ball joints, tie rods and bearings cost $1,000*ak
While driving at approximately 70 mph there was a crack in the transmission. owner had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and owner was informed that the transmission appeared as if the driver had been going 80 mph, then suddenly shifted the vehicle into park. then, owner contacted the manufacturer, who claimed that vehicle had too many miles on it, and there was nothing else they could do. *ak
1999 dodge durango speed sensor failed as well as the upper and lower ball joints. ***no answer required***. *mr at 49,000 the transmission went out. the speed sensor failed for a second time. *jb
My durango steering had been out of control i took it to a mechanic and both front ball joints are bad and it is leaking transmission fluid from the front seal.it is costing 700.00 to be fixed. this is money i do not have. i have owned the car 1 and a half years.it was supposed to be reliable transportation. *ak
