Car stuck in gear, cant reduce speed, powertrain module needs to be replace, i've had the car only for 1 1/2. *tr

while driving my car, the electronic throttle control light came on and the car lost power and would not accelerate. i have researched this problem and it seems that it is a common occurrence. please recall now for safety reasons! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the electronic throttle control failed without warning. the failure recurred three times over a period of eighteen months. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnosis or repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000. updated 03/31/14*lj the consumer stated on 3/9/14, while driving, the etc light illuminated again. all power to vehicle was lost. the consumer pulled over and restarted the vehicle. the consumer was then able to continue home. updated 04/01/2014 *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the voltage indicator began to illuminate and the engine would not accelerate. the contact was able to maneuver the vehicle into a turning lane with less traffic. the vehicle was then towed to the dealer. the dealer diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that they were unable to find a failure. the vehicle was taken to a personal mechanic and the alternator was replaced. two weeks later, the failure recurred and the contact remained on the side of the highway for three hours, at which time she was able to successfully start the vehicle. a week later, the failure recurred again. in each instance the vehicle would start and have power, but would not accelerate. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 91,631 and the current mileage was 93,046.

While pulling out from a stoplight and accelerating up a grade, my 2008 dodge avenger made a loud popping noise and began to sputter and lose power. the car would not go over 10 mph and a lighting bolt symbol appeared on my dash display. i drifted the car to the side of the road and could not move. after letting it sit and turning the car off and on, the lighting bolt image on my dash disappeared and the car could be driven. since then, the car sporadically stutters for no apparent reason and i then pull off the gas fearing a repeat of the above incident. *tr

I was leaving work for the day and started my vehicle as usual, but was unable to shift from park to reverse or any other mode for that matter. i at first thought maybe i had not applied enough pressure to the brake or maybe i did not turn the key all the way. i started over, ensuring that i did both and was still unable to shift out of any other mode but park. this has happened almost daily since april 9th, 2012 with the only remedy being that thousands of others have complained and blogged about it online and posted quick fix remedies for the exact same problem. if thousands of other dodge drivers are having this issue, why hasn't a recall been issued? *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that the driver side window made a abnormal noise. the contact mentioned that the window fractured within the driver side door. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who repaired the vehicle, but the parts repaired or replaced were unknown. two years after the initial repair, the failure recurred and the driver side window fractured into the door paneling. in addition, the vehicle was difficult to shift from park. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

Motor mounts failed and this is the second time it has happened. dealer replaced front mount and said there was a change in the mounts due to problems but did not change the back mount, now the back mount has failed. i think that if dodge had to make a change in design of the mount due to problems they should have had to change both mounts when they changed the front one. this is just so they don't have to spend any more money on a car than they have to. *tr

Car stalls on highway around 50 mph will not speed up. needs to be pulled over to regain speed. large semi truck had to brake to avoid hitting vehicle on highway. changed many parts and now will not go over 50 and shift out of second. spent about $300 on parts alone and friends shop help with problems. still not fixed. may need to park it before my family dies in it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that the vehicle would not shift gears properly and could not be accelerated over 35 mph. in addition, the check engine warning light was extinguished. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was told that the computer to the transmission was not operating properly and was keeping the vehicle from coming out of second gear. the failure and the current mileage was 98,000.

Driving on the freeway and my 2008 dodge avenger suddenly loses power and begins to idle and run rough. the red electric bolt sign came on and was flashing. car continued to run funny not having normal power and unable to accelerate. when i turned the car off and then back on it reset. ? *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate beyond 50 mph. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop and they were in the process of diagnosing the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. the failure and current mileages were 54,500.

We were driving on the highway about 65 mph when our electric throttle control indicator light along with our engine light came on. when this happened we did not have a speedometer or rpm gauge. all of the lights that are related to the shifter (park, neutral, drive) also all lit up. the car did continue to drive but had less power. we pulled over and turned the car off. we tried to start it again but it would not start at first. the power locks and truck release would not work either. after about 5 minutes we tried it again and everything worked. the check engine light did stay on but the car drove fine. the engine light is still currently on. *tr

I drove my car to work and left it there for about 6 hours. i started the car as usual and it would not shift into any gear. after countless hours of trying to troubleshoot, i had to have it towed to the dealer. i went online and noticed there were hundreds of other consumers that had the same issue, but dodge has not recalled the issue. the problem with the car was the gear shifter, which broke. *tr

Interlock spring broke and locked my vehicle into the park position. *tr

I got a recall on my dodge avenger, due to a plate on the shifter, i took it to dealer, they replaced the part, and less then 2 mo. my car locked in park and unable to get to go into gear, had to have car towed to dealer again and they had to replace the shifter, they charge me $100. and said it was deductible , i feel it was not my place to have to pay to fix a part that has been recalled, and they messed up. the dealer said they had several shifter to have to replaced since they changed out the recalled part. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that the vehicle received repairs to the gear shift interlock spring under a manufacturers recall. after repairs, the contact was unable to remove the gear shifter from park. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the shifter and brake shift switches needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 44,000.

The shifter stuck in park, and i had to have the car towed in order to have it fixed. *tr

On june 27,2011 went to my car to go to work, started my 2008 dodge avenger, the gear shift will not shift out of park no matter what i do. now i read a lot of comments that this is very common with this model and year, why hasn't dodge fixed this problem with a recall, instead of the consumer having to pay to repair a manufacturing defect. a cheap plastic part, give us consumers a break, wont buy a dodge again thanks *tr

2008 dodge avenger sxt with the 2.7 liter engine with approximately 57,000 miles. the electronic throttle control light comes on (it is a lightening bolt shaped indicator light). this is a common problem on these vehicles from what i am searching on the internet and forums of other owners. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal while the vehicle was parked and attempted to shift the gear into reverse but the gear selector would not budge. the contact stated that she was able to start the vehicle by removing the cover from the gear pole and engaging a wire in the interior with her finger. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnosis or repairs. the approximate failure mileage was 103,850.

I was at the store earlier today when i came out the gear shift on my 2008 dodge avenger was stuck in park i tried everything to get it unstuck so i decided to come home and google the problem i found thousands of posts with the problem it seems to me its the manufactures fault and i think it should be investigated for so many people to have the same problem around the same time. *tr

2008 dodge avenger with automatic transmission will not move out of park. drove car in morning to work and 8 hours later after starting and then depressing the brake pedal to shift the shift lever would not mover from park. bought this car new and it has only 29,000 miles after 2 years of ownership. *tr

Stick shifter stuck in park. can not engage at all. dodge is not acknowledging the problem with the consumer. not fair to the buyer it is not covered in warranty. *tr

2008 dodge avenger will not shift out of park. *tr

Sept. 12,2010- i got in my car to run errands and my car would not get out of park. i own a 2008 dodge avenger, never had any problems with the gear shift till today. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. while attempting to shift out of park the contact noticed that the shift lever would not move unless the drive train button was engaged. the vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the gear shifter needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the current and failure mileages were 60000.

i drove my 08 dodge avenger to a friends house, put the car in park, came back an hour later and the car started but i couldn't shift gears. it is labor day, so the dealership isn't open and my car is stuck 20 miles away from my house. there was no warning to the shifter malfunction, everything was working fine and then boom, can't shift. i saved for 2 years to buy a new car and have loved this car from the day i bought it, now i am not so sure because this is a major inconvenience, nevermind the fact that it is not covered by my extended warranty so it is going to cost a pretty penny to have this fixed. i have read many complaints about this same malfunction on the same make, model and year of my car, it should really be recalled. *tr

I own a 2008 dodge avenger, bought it brand new a couple years ago. i go get in my car today to get my son's prescriptions and pick up my kids when i find my gear shift locked in 'park'. now i will have to pay for a tow plus repairs for something that should have been a recall!!! bad business dodge!!! i will never own another dodge. *tr

2008 dodge avenger with automatic transmission will not move out of park. drove car in morning to work and 8 hours later after starting and then depressing the brake pedal to shift the shift lever would not mover from park. bought this car new and it has only 12,000 miles after 2 years of ownership. *tr

This was a sudden failure. my family and i enjoy a great day at a theme park, we head back to the parking garage to head home. we get in our four door 2008 dodge avenger and it will not shift out of park. the vehicle turns on great, i check the emergency brake, i turn on the car, turn off the car and the shifter will not budge out of park. i call a towing service and he said this happens with a lot of dodge avengers and sebrings. he had to pull the trim off where the shifter is located and push this pink release down and the shifter moved freely. i contacted a dodge dealership and they said it will cost me $200.00 which is ridiculous! i went online no recall, but i found thousands of other people who are having the same issue. this issue needs to be addressed to chrysler and get a [xxx] recall on these vehicles. thank you. *tr information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I got into my dodge avenger(2008) and i couldn't put it in gear. the shifter will not move. *tr

I have a dodge avenger, 2008. couldn't get it out of park this morning as i was rushing to take my daughter to the hospital. seems the manufacturer put a hidden' little pink plastic piece described as a safety feature in the console. this little pink plastic piece somehow broke (just cant understand how plastic could break). from what im reading this isn't uncommon. wonder how they're gonna feel when there's a lawsuit? *tr

My 2008 dodge avenger se will not shift out of park.....while doing some research i found that over 50 customers are having the same problem with there dodge avenger however there does not seem to be a recall yet!!!!!!!! by providing this information i hope something can be done about this major problem. *tr

Faulty gear shift mechanism caused gear shift selector to stick in park. happened suddenly, without warning. had to have car towed to dealership for repair. gear selector mechanism was replaced at a cost of $342.00. apparently a known issue which has happened to thousands of 2008 and 2009 dodge avenger owners. not covered under extended warranty. recall needed. *tr

I went out to my car to leave work and i started my car as usual. i tried to shift out of park and i couldn't move the shifter. i tried everything suggested to me and i couldn't find how to bypass it in the owner's manual. (the service tech finally showed me how to do it once it was fixed) i finally called to have it towed to a close dealership where they fixed it. the gear shift mechanism broke. there is a pink plastic piece that holds the spring that activates the shift lock and the hook that actually holds the spring broke. the entire module needed to be replaced costing $69.35 for the part and approximately $129 for labor. after researching the incident online, i found out this is a major recurring problem for the dodge avenger, it could be avoided if the part was made out of metal and not plastic. *tr

2008 dodge avenger gear shift will not shift from park into gear because plastic part holding spring on shifter lever breaks, stranding you wherever you happen to be according to discussion groups it is a pretty common and numerous defect that should be recalled and fixed. *tr

I bought a used 2008 dodge avenger on 6/22/2010, on 8/18/2010 i was leaving work started my car and could not get it out of "park". this happened without any warning as i had driven the car 3 hours earlier with no problems at all. called the dodge dealership the next day and was told this was a common problem but not a recall and would cost over $300 to repair. this was all very confusing too me, wish i knew what was looked at or the criteria to consider this a recall. i would think dodge would be able to pull a report of how many "shift assemblies" has been repaired. it appears from the website i have found a lot of dodge customers have experience this unforeseen debacle when trying to drive off. *tr

2008 dodge avenger sxt will not shift out of park. brake switch activates but gear shifter will not move past park safety stop. *tr

I have a 2008 dodge avenger that a spring attached to the shifter broke on last night. it makes it so you cannot put the car into gear. there are people all over the internet with the same problem and my dealership said they are fixing 2 a day and it costs $400 for us to fix it! if there are that many people having problems they need to recall it, my car is only a couple years old, this is ridiculous! *tr

I drove home from working out and put the car in park, then turned off the car. after 30 minutes, i got back into the vehicle, started the car and it wouldn't come out of park. i tried the pink override button, but it doesn't work either. *tr

I was trying to start my 2008 dodge avenger when i was unable to release it from park. the car starts properly, but the shift gear does not move. this is due to the cheap plastic that dodge has used as a lever to release a spring that releases the shift. the cheap plastic has broken!!! unacceptable. my dodge has 50,000 miles on it. *tr

No warning, the gear shift in my 2008 dodge avenger was stuck in park. the dodge dealership say this is going to cost $400.00. i investigated on line and several thousand people are also dealing with the same issue. *tr

Went to go to work and car would not come out of park. unable to manually release gear selector. had car towed to dealer, shifter broke. lose of use of car for three days while waiting for part. cost $154.43. *tr

I went to get in my car about a week and half ago, to go to work, and i started it and went to put it in drive, and could not shift it out of park. i let off the brake, and then back on, and then retried, but still nothing. so i turned it off and waited a few minutes, and then retried, but still could not get it out of park. so i went and woke my husband up and he tried and we were still unable to get it out of park. we called the dealership and they said they have replace numerous shifters in vehicles just like mine in the past year, and it was going to be around $400.00! we have tried to take the up holder out of the console and find the release button that the manual talks about, but it is not working either! my car is still sitting in park in the driveway! *tr

The first one was on august 7th 2010 the car slid and i hit an embankment the brakes did not work we were pretty shook up i messed up the right front tire with the crash the second incident happened on august 13 2010 the cars gear will not shift it is stuck we are trying to fix by looking at the internet it seems this is a common problem because chrysler used a plastic part for the gear shift spring this is crazy i am still paying off my car please help! *tr
