Hello, i would just like to take the time to explain the situation with my year 2000 chrysler concorde lx. i am a college student and i purchased this car roughly a year and a half ago with 41,000 miles on it. the carfax vehicle report stated that the car had perfect routine maintenance and it was owned by one female owner over the course of its life. after owning the car i now have about 65,000 miles on this car, with perfect routine maintenance. i am experiencing the symptoms of the engine sludge problem that these 2.7 liter engines experience. my rpms are dropping to low revs at idle, and my mechanic says that the engine will eventually seize while driving. at this point i no longer drive the vehicle and leave it stationary in my parents garage. to replace these engines they cost around 4,000 - 10,000 dollars. that is more than the price of the vehicle itself. there is clearly a defect in the engine design, and any quick google search can show this. there are hundreds upon thousands of complaints online in public forums and engine oriented websites. i only hope that this organization investigates this ...
2003 chrysler concorde engine 2.7 with 74000 miles on the odometer. the engine coolant got mixed with the oil, not even the 100k miles range and now i end up with a $9,000 paperweight! its not fair that the "poor" design and the misleading information on the owners manual ("the owners manual says that you can go 7,500 miles before your next oil change") has such a costly result, $5,000 for the engine replace, and chrysler is not doing anything about the problem, they're just blaming the consumer saying we didn't take care of our cars! my car has had the oil changed at 3000 miles every time, that's 4500 miles more often than the recommended "safe" distance mentioned on the owners manual! c'mon people this is wrong and you know it place a recall for this engine and keep the reputation you guys work for too long to acquire! love chryslers but this is a nightmare! *tr
The motor on a my 2.7l 2000 chrysler contour rod bearings went out ruining the motor. the repair would be 3,000. i did not know it was a known incident with these motors that chrysler uses in this model. the motor went out on a camping trip 180 miles away from home. i left the car at a shop and am currently donating it to charity. *tr
2.7 engine in chrysler concorde just blew with 70,000 miles on vehicle. 4 separate mechanics stated that chrysler had many, many issues with the 2.7 engine. oil was changed regularly and all fluids were at correct levels. no reason for engine to completely fail with such low mileage. complete engine replacement to get vehicle up and running again. i believe this is a defective engine which is now costing me $1000's of dollars to repair. there are no events leading up to failure. engine made noise for 1 day, i parked it, and 3 days later it would not start. had mechanic checking and replacing starter, battery, etc. finally determined the engine blew. as of today, the engine has not been replaced. vehicle is currently parked. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 chrysler concorde. while turning into a parking lot there was a loud noise, and then the steering wheel locked. she then tried to pull to the side of the road, but the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to a local repair facility, and the mechanic concluded that the failure was caused by engine sludge. no repairs were made. she filed a report with the dealer, but no assistance was provided. the failure and current mileages were unknown.
Events leading to failure: ordinary driving, including high speed acceleration, low speed acceleration, low speed deceleration, stopped, idling in gear. 5 occurrences in 2000 miles. engine fails completely, followed by immediate restart capability. normal operation for many more miles. car's computer fault code report is consistent with description contained in chrysler recall below. chrysler recall (notification code j18) appeared to address the issue, but was rescinded. was told by dealer service dept. that chrysler is working on the problem, no solution yet (2 weeks after receipt of the recall notice.) dealer recommended the car not be driven. present situation: must either drive an unsafe car or be without transportation. date entered for this report was first occurence. 4 additional events continued through 2009. tw*
