Problems with 2000 Chrysler Concorde ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

The cruise control light flashed on and off. then, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. driver applied the brakes in order to stop. following that a loud clanking noise was heard, and vehicle stalled. driver tried to restart vehicle, but was unable to do so. driver had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced. *ak

The car was idling for about 20minutes, then it started to idle up quite high then bog down low, after that i turned the ignition off, waited for my husband. got the car to his fathers house, barely, then took it to where we bought it from. then it died and won't start back up. the car only has 105,000 miles on it. engine is completly gone.

The 2.7l engine seized while driving 25-30 mph. vehicle was almost rear ended while rolling off onto the side of the road. the vehicle was towed to a repair shop, and mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced. dealer and manufacturer were not notified. *ak

I have a 2000 chrysler concorde with a 2.7 engine that is sludged. i have changed my oil properly but do not have but 2 or 3 receipts. i have an extended warranty and that company has denied the claim. i am a realtor and must have a car, this has been a great hardship and when the engine started to go i was on the expressway. the warranty company nor chrysler is standing behind the product. i have basically been called a liar by the dealership and the warranty company because we don't have receipts. the car is just sitting because i cannot afford a new engine. i have done research and there are a lot of the 2.7 engines that have gone out like mine. something needs to be done, other companies stand behind their auto products but chrysler is not. i still owe on the car and have to pay the payment and insurance. chrysler consumers need help please.*ak

My chrysler concorde(2000) just up and died on the side of the highway a couple of months ago. it was due to oil sludge. we got the oil changed every three thousand miles and it threw a rod. the mechanics said it will take 4000 to fix but i can't afford it. so i have been paying on a car that i can't drive. the car only has about 70000 miles on it. the oil was changed aabout a month before this happened. nothing has been done to the car because i can't afford it. it lost all power on the highway as my wife drove it and had to be towed.

On my way to work my engine in my 2000 concord started ticking and seized while driving in a snow storm on january 4, 2005. i only have 40,000 miles on my 4 year old car with a 5 year/50,000 mile extended warranty which i paid over $900 for and chrysler will not help! i was fortunate that i was slowing down for a red light when it seized which saved me from being in an accident or from anyone getting hurt. the local car repair shop told me that my timing belt broke and destroyed the engine and that it was a common problem in the 2.7l engines that chrysler put in their cars due to the oil distribution system. chrysler blames the problem with sludging in the engine and it will cost me $6,000 to replace the engine. they want me to show my receipts for my oil changes which i did not save. when i went to the shops that i had my oil changes done some were not on the system because i did not return within a year and the latest shop where i change my oil just received a new computer system and just started to record the changes on february 15, 2005 but not prior to this date. this leaves me with nothing but a big bill that i should not have to pay! i know that there is a class action lawsuit being or already is filed against chrysler for this problem. i need to find out how to get my name on this lawsuit and how to escalate this problem to get chrysler to pay for the fixes. i can be e-mailed at [email protected] or by replying to this e-mail.*ak

While parking vehicle stalled. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *ak

While pulling into the driveway vehicle ran roughly. engine quit working followed by the vehicle stalling. then, vehicle failed to restart. vehicle was towed to the dealership, who indicated that the crank sensor and a rod bearing cylinder 6 had malfunctioned, and needed to be replaced. *ak

The vehicle stalled while driving, the consumer tried to restart the vehicle but was unable to do so. the consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer. the mechanic informed the driver that the engine needed to be replaced due to a blown head gasket. please provide additional information. *jb

I own a 2000 chrysler concorde. have changed oil on schedule since i purchased the car 20 months ago w/ approx. 45k miles. have also had the complete engine flush done 3 times. car has the 2.7 l engine. complete failure at 79,300 miles. no help from chrysler or local dealers.*ak

Consumer was driving and the vehicle stalled, would not restart, and had to be towed. the engine was found to be defective. manufacturer offered no assistance.*ak the tensioner went bad in the engine allowing the timing chain to jump time, resulting in the valves being bent into the head and destroying the engine. *bf *nm

The engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. a loud ticking noise was coming from the front of the vehicle. the vehicle stalled. the consumer tried to restart it but was unable to do so. the consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer. the mechanic informed the consumer that the engine needed to be replaced due to sludge build up. please fill in additional information. *jb

Car stalled at red light, i pulled over to firestone to have them put the car on a machine to scan for errors and i was told that my crank shaft sensor and oil sensor were bad, i paid for them to replace the sensors ($525.00) and five days later while driving i smelled something and pulled over, this time it was my transmission line ($480.00) and transmission work $(1765.00) this was all paid within 2 weeks, but when i went to pick up the car i was told that they thought that my oil pump needed to be replaced,but when they pulled the oil pump they said that i had engine slug. *ak

While driving 45 mph the consumer could not stop the vehicle. then after trying to coast home, the vehicle had to be towed to the dealer, who told the consumer that engine was full of sludge, and needed to be replaced. the warranty company stated that the vehicle had a lack of maintenance, and they would not cover the cost.*ak

While driving approximately 40 mph engine stalled. vehicle lost power. was able to coast to side of road, out of the way of traffic. vehicle will be towed to dealership for inspection.*ak

Vehicle started and made an annoying sound while driving at 55 mph, and the vehicle stopped. vehicle was towed, and the engine was found to be defective.*ak

While driving 30 mph vehicle stalled. *ak

While driving at approximately 40 mph engine seized. the consumer was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealership, where it was evaluated and is currently being serviced. the consumer was informed that the timing chain failed, and there was sludge in the engine. vehicle is equipped with a 2.7 liter engine. it was properly maintained. *ak *sc

The car was purchased used from yankee ford,so.portland. with 60,000 miles on it. after a few days, the car seemed to idle high. yankee ford diagnostic could find nothing wrong. in 2004 fall, i took it in because it was running hot, the engine sounded rough. the oil changes were up to date. the oil was clean when the mechanic looked at it. he did a diagnostic check. then he looked in the engine. it was very dirty. when the machine shop cleaned it, the mechanics said they never saw anything like it, it was caked with sludge. the car has been sitting in the shop while the mechanic has looked for a new used engine. the cost is very, very high and i still owe $7,000 on the car. it had less than 80,000 miles on it when i took it in. *jb

The vehicle stalled at every light, finally, the vehicle failed to gain speed. the dealer stated the engine was defective. *jb

Engine failed while the consumer was driving. vehicle was towed to dealer, who claimed that the consumer did not maintain the vehicle and the oil had built up. the engine needed to be replaced.*ak

While driving up and down a hill at 45 mph vehicle hesitated, and engine bucked followed by the engine warning light coming on , before the vehicle stalled. vehicle was towed to the dealership, who indicated after inspection engine blew out. *ak

While driving vehicle completely seized, and engine locked up. plastic housing that covers the timing belt snapped, and completely shredded the housing.*ak

Consumer stated that vehicle and the motor was shot. while consumer was driving vehicle knocked, and before he could exit the knocking got real loud. afterwards, vehicle died. consumer said he had to push vehicle to his home, but later had it towed to a dealer, who examined the vehicle, and told consumer that the motor was defective, and it would cost him $7500.00 to get it repaired. before this happened consumer paid $600.00 for a diagnostic test and 2 sensors to be replaced.*ak

While driving at 25 mph consumer heard a noise coming from the engine. vehicle was taken to the dealership, and technician determined that engine blew out. *ak

When driving 20 mph engine dropped. vehicle was towed. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *ak

While driving vehicle stalled. consumer heard a ticking noise coming from the front. consumer was unable to restart vehicle, and had it towed to the dealer for inspection. mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to worn out parts. *ak *tc

The 2.7 engine failed at about 120,000 miles. the mechanic said the engine is sludged up, but i had the car routinely serviced. it is a 2000 chrysler concorde. *ak

While driving off the highway engine rattled/overheated, causing sludge in the motor oil. consumer was able to slow down and eventually stalled. consumer heard knocking in the motor, and as the vehicle slowed down, the vehicle stalled. consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer, where it was discovered that the engine had sludge in the motor. *ak

While driving a loud noise was heard coming from the front. vehicle started shaking. driver's side front wheel sheared off. consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic informed consumer that the cause had not been determined . *ak check engine light on. *tc

In august of 2003. my chrysler concorde failed due to a faulty tensioner, 66,000 miles. this caused engine damage(valves bent, etc..) engine rebuilt cost $2500. on september 6th 2004 82,000 miles, i was driving my car to get food. approximately 1 mile or less from my home, my car died. oil was sludgy when viewing it through oil entrance on engine. awaiting repair estimates from repair shop.*ak

When turning vehicle stalled. vehicle was towed to dealership, who informed the consumer that timing belt failed and sludge was in the engine. the problem was not resolved. *ak the consumer was told it was the water pump that was defective. *tc

While driving engine blew up, heard a loud clanging noise. the dashboard lights illuminated. vehicle completely shut down. *ak

The timing chain broke while the vehicle was being driven on the interstate. the manufacture stated that the problem existed because of faulty maintenance. *ak

The engine stops running like it is out of gas. after safely stopping pulling over etc. i can restart the car but this is not safe for a year 2000 automobile.

We first saw a dealership regarding a clicking in the engine compartment on april 26, 2004, then again on july 16, 2004 at a different dealership. on the latter date, the battery was replaced and the oil changed. on 7/25, the engine. i was fortunate that i had just pulled into my driveway when this occurred. we replaced the engine early in 2005. when the tech broke down the old 2.7 liter engine, he wrote, "...rod bearings worn and rod tap noise the engine showed no signs of abuse or alteration...". the engine was replaced with a different engine. at this time, we are preparing to request compensation from daimler-chrysler. *jb

While driving 65 mph vehicle stalled. consumer pulled over and had the vehicle towed. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *ak

Intermittently while starting the vehicle consumer heard a screeching noise coming from the engine. while the noise was present vehicle revved severely. after awhile the noise subsided, and the rpms would lower significantly. several months later consumer started the vehicle and heard a discouraging sound. engine sounded as if there was a hand full of tacks being grounded up. dealer examined the vehicle, and informed the consumer that the timing chain snapped, and the engine needed to be replaced. *ak the manufacturer refused to pay for the repairs although the vehicle has an extended warranty. the consumer didn't have the $5900. to repair the vehicle so they traded it in. *nm

While driving consumer heard a knocking noise coming from the engine. consumer pulled over, and had the vehicle towed. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.*ak

Chrysler 2000 concord engine failed (locked up due to sludge buildup) 5 minutes after pulling it into my mechanics driveway. has bee in repair for three months. could have been fatal if i would have driven a little farther.*ak

Engine failed on my wife's 2000 chrysler concorde while she was driving. mechanic says rod failure. 2.7l engine. 58000 miles on the car. *ak

I have several rather expensive failing items on my car including recurring issues: had to replace the r/p steering at 65,000 miles steering rack had excessive play at the 'neutral' or straight position; the molding around all doors has pulled away from the body of the car; rear door locks need to be replaced due to electrical problem; left taillight gasket leaks has ruined interior of the car; plastic trim at the base of my windshield is flapping in the wind; replaced stabilizer bar ends; engine coolant outlet housing was replaced due to a leak from the vent fitting - and to date i have at least 3 more things we have to look at before i can sell this heep.*ak

Intermittently while driving at any speed vehicle decelerated then accelerated on its own. tvehicle reacted as if the brakes were depressed, and then the accelerator. this problem occurred more than twenty times since may of 2004.*ak

While driving 15 mph vehicle stalled. consumer restarted vehicle and drove it to dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that engine needed to be replaced due to a worn out part. *ak

Driving at 45 mph when engine made loud noise and vehicle engine seized. this caused loss of control of vehicle without any warning. this is 2000 chrysler concorde with same 2.7 liter engine problem as the rest where the repair shop says sludge build-up cause engine timing chain to break but car has been maintained as per chrysler recommendations. *la

Vehicle stopped running, after the check engine light came on. the engine had to be replaced.*ak the door lock was inoperative, the dealer believed it was an actuator problem. *jb

At 85,000 miles my engine in which i have done my oil changes, had sludge in it, now after 90,000 the engine knocks real bad and must be replaced, the dealer told me that my personal extended warrenty will not cover it because of the crap in the engine, which they said i caused it because i did not do my oil changes and i did. *ak

Owner was driving about 20-30 mph. when making a turn, vehicle completely shut down loosing all power. vehicle was towed to a local mechanic. the problem was undetermined, at this time. *nm it was later determined that the engine failed due to sludge build up. the engine light did not illuminate to indicate any type of failure. the technician said that many 2.7 liter engines have this problem. *nm

2000 chrysler concorde with approx. 94k miles is having what the chrysler mechanic calls a "blow by" and is unsafe to drive. they say we need a new engine costing approx. $8000!!! we haven't even made it to the first tune-up! we've maintained the car with oil changes every 3k miles at the dealership. we always asked them to inform us of any impending car problems since we were on the highway a lot. no suggestion of a heavier weight oil or anything! this appears to be a factory defect in the 2.7 ltr engine that chrysler knows about and should fix! we're attempting to negotiate with dealership now. *jb

While driving home on a state highway, the engine in my 2000 chrysler concorde all of the suuden without warning, quit. when towed to my local mechanic, found that the car had complete engine failure. this engine completely failed while driving on a highway with my wife and 6 month old in the car. not what i would call a safe situation. fortunately for us no one was hurt.*ak
