Problems with 2006 Chrysler 300C FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2006 Chrysler 300C starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 92 039 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2006 Chrysler 300C

I filled up the gas tank at the station pulled into traffic and the light turned red. stopped for the light the car started lurching and the engine shut down. turned on hazard light pushed gas to floor and cranked engine over. took several tries to get engine to start. after this incident the car runs rough when stopping at red lights. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300 c. the contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was restarted after several attempts however, the failure recurred sporadically and after refueling. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 117,000. the vin was not available.

Filled up the car and upon pulling onto the highway the car stalls and shuts off.very dangerous situation for my family as well as others.i am surprised thus far, very thankful,no fatalities have been reported. *js

After filling the fuel tank as i was leaving the station the car stalled and the check engine light came on. the car started and i drove about 3 blocks and it stalled again at a traffic light. it ran ok the next several fill-ups and then it happened and this time it stalled four (4) time. once on a busy by-pass i spoke with chrysler customer service on march 20, 2012and they will do nothing about this. clearly this is a serious safety issue. i am having the fuel tank replaced at a cost of $1200.00. *tr

Filled tank with gas an left the gas station then the car shut off wile driving, then tried to start and the car shut off again three times after the tank was less than full the car ran fine. *tr

I bought my car new in march 2006 and i am the only owner/driver. i do like my car and will buy another chrysler 300c. when the car was new i had several stalling issues where the car would stall at low speeds or while sitting at a traffic light. i do not recall if it was after refueling. i took the car to the dealer and no "codes" were found and the dealer could not replicate the problem. the car than ran perfectly for six years with no stalling issues. all maintenance has been performed including new spark plugs as recommended by chrysler. starting earlier this year the stalling restarted and it only happens after i fill the car with fuel. i have tried several other gas stations and ran some fuel injection cleaner through the fuel system. i do not top off the tank when filling the car up. at one point the stalling occurred after every fill up and now it is not as often (every other fill up). after filling the tank the car starts normally and as i exit the gas station and stop to check to merge into traffic the car will stumble and stall. it restarts and will stall again if i don't keep the engine rpm's up. sometimes after i fill up and quickly merge into traffic (and not allow the car to fall to idle speed) while accelerating up to 25-40 mph the car will stumble and it feels like it is not getting fuel. it does not stall because the car is gaining speed and then clears up after a "surge" and then runs fine till the next fill up cycle. i am careful about pulling out in heavy traffic after fill ups out of fear of it stalling. *tr

Five minutes after refueling my 2006 300c, it stalled at a stop light. vehicle restarted quickly, but could not hold steady rpms at idle or higher. drove immediately to dealer, and vehicle stalled three more times on the way. dealer personnel indicated stalling could be caused by over-filling the gas tank (however, i had not continued filling the tank after the pump auto-shut-off). dealer suggested running the engine for 15 minutes to clear vapor canister. this did not help. dealer replaced fuel tank and vapor canister, $1500. this is a dangerous condition since the rough running leads to stalling at intersections or stop signs. *tr

After filling the fuel tank the engine will stall when stopping for a light or when first leaving the light. it will also jerk while driving.this happens until the fuel level goes down. it did not do this when first purchased. now it happens every time the tank is filled. if the car stalls while driving the steering and brakes become difficult to use. there are many reports online about this same problem. chrysler does not claim to know anything about this at the dealer. someone will get hurt or worse if this problem is not addressed. thank you *tr

After you get gas in the car and drive away the car will stall and then you have to put it in park and restart your engine.this can be dangerous, especially if you are in moving traffic at the time. *tr

Car unexpectedly stalled in traffic but started right up again. this happened several times as i made my way to the chrysler dealer a few miles away. they could not diagnose problem at the time. the car ran fine until yesterday january 31st 2013 when it happened again but this time in heavy traffic. i managed to get the car started and it continued to stall several times as i made my way to the dealer again. the mechanic identified the problem which appears to happen right after filling the gas tank as a problem with the vapor recovery system. he stated he has seen this problem many times and the remedy is to replace the fuel tank and vapor recovery lines and filter etc. cost about $2000. i asked if it was a recall given that this happens frequently (my online research suggests this is a common problem with chrysler 300c). i was told it was not a recall. my issue is that this is a serious safety problem and should be addressed by the manufacturer. *tr

Vehicle stalls shortly after refueling. stall happens mostly when coming to a stop although has also occurred at a low speed cruise (25-35 mph) and when accelerating from a stop at an intersection. happens only after fuel tank is fully filled, being the automatic shutoff on the fuel pump. does not seem to happen when tank is only partially filled. while the problem has not resulted in a collision yet, there is a high probability that it eventually will. this is due to the fact that stalling when leaving an intersection causes loss of some control. when the engine stalls, upon restart the transmission does not come online for a few moments. this can cause dangerous scenarios when left immobile in a busy intersection of a major metropolitan area. *tr

I bought my 2006 chrysler 300c brand new & i've been the only owner. it was purchased straight from daimler/chrysler, ordered & built to my selected specifications through chrysler. i set the order in february 2005, it was built & finished 11 nov 2005. this was done while i was finalizing my career in active duty military service & retired. i returned to the u.s. 7 jan 2006 & that's when i saw & picked my then brand new 300c. i fell in love with that car ever since. i truly love this car & to this day still love this car. i've never had any major issues with this car from day one otherthan putting gas in it, very dependable car. in 2007 june i was diagnosed cancer of the bone & blood (multiple myeloma, stage 4). after being hospitalized for apprx. 18 mths, one day while coming from chemo it started to over heat & blowing steam, had it towed to nearest dealer & had to have the fans & the sensors replaced, 1st major problem, then after that it was the shift lever stuck in park, then the "a" frame & control arms, now in nov 2012, after attending my grandmother's funeral, i filled it up @ a gas station & it shut off, would start back up but continued to shut off. there was no check engine light then once i got it started it would sputter, kick, & stall, this was repeated for several miles down the hwy & was fine til i had to fill it up again from then on it continued to do so every fill up. i did receive an indication of the gas cap (replaced) then june 2013 i filled it up as usual & it shut off & it was difficult to restart, i waited & start it again it did so i pulled on to the road, it began to stall, sputter, & buck, as i crept home, i heard a loud crackling sound lost all power, had it towed was told #4 vlv had fell down in the cylinder, after 3 months 2008 5.7l engine put in, problem still exist, evap solenoid, canister, pump, & filter assembly replaced. *tr

Many multiple incidents - after filling fuel tank, engine will stall multiple times shortly afterwards and is difficult to re-start. this happens even if care is taken to avoid "topping off" tank. at times the engine has even stalled during fueling once tank is near full, before pump clicks off. must drive with gas cap removed for it to start and run at all for many miles before it behaves normally again, and even with gas cap removed it still will come near stalling at times. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300c. the contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle would abnormally stall. the dealer was notified, who advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for a diagnostic test. the manufacturer was also notified and advised the contact that there was no recall for the failure and that they had no knowledge of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 49,000 and the current mileage was 59,000.

After filling up with fuel while stopped at a traffic light the engine stalled. after restarting and proceeding the engine stalled again while traveling at 15-20 mph. this has happened several times since always after refueling. *tr

When filled up the gas tank and started to drive the car died. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300c. the contact stated that after refueling, the engine stalled while driving at 5 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the charcoal canister needed to be replaced and the throttle needed to be cleaned. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 70,000. updated 07/10/13*lj the consumer stated the fuel tank module failed. when the tank was filled it caused the engine to lose power. updated 07/19/2013 *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300c. the contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle failed to restart until after several attempts. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the condenser was replaced. the contact also stated that the failure recurred and had been repaired multiple times for the same failure. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 106,000.

After gasoline fill up, vehicle stalls after leaving gas station. most likely to happen first quarter mile after fill up and sometimes within five miles. later occurrences may happen upon making left turn. took to dealer and vehicle checked out. vapor canister and purge valve tested ok. was told fuel control valve may be problem but the fuel tank would have to be removed to access the part. cost would be considerable. condition has continued to occur upon fill up for over a year now with rare exception. i find it quite distracting and dangerous when vehicle stalls in traffic as it takes several seconds to get restarted and may reoccur again. i have an appointment to repair tomorrow, 31 october 2013. if vehicle is recalled for this issue i would like to be eligible for reimbursement. *tr

Every time the car is filled up with gas, it stalls several times. this can be dangerous as at least once i was getting on an interstate. fortunately, no accident occurred. the first time i took it to the dealership they said it was because i overfill the tank (which i don't) and replaced a charcoal filter and solenoid at the cost of almost $500. it happened again after this repair and now i am told i need a new gas tank. this will cost another $1250. i am aware of this happening on other chrysler 300's. contacted chrysler and reported the problem. at first they said it was because of overfilling the tank and now confirm it is the fuel tank, but there have been no recalls on this issue. we bought the car in 2005 when the new 2006's came out. this is a very dangerous issue. *tr

As reported with other complaints, car will stall after refueling. yesterday it stalled three times while removing my foot from the accelerator and applying the brake. it also stalled while turning through an intersection which prompted me to dig into this further since previous attempts to correct the problem have not worked!. visited chrysler dealership today and since the check engine light was not on nor could they find anything specific to the issue there was nothing they could do. the only question i was asked was that if i topped the fuel after the pump automatically shuts off. i responded that i did not and if i did what difference would that make. problem has been on going for about 8 months, and in those months the dealership re-flashed the engine control module, i have replaced the spark plugs, replaced all the fluids, and replaced the pcv valve. problem still persists and would like to seek some type of resolution! *tr

The car will hesitate and stall unexpectedly. it seems to occur only immediately after refueling. i have had the car die as i am crossing busy intersections. after driving a few miles, the problem seems to go away. internet chatter seems to indicate a bad evap. solenoid/canister or from a vent valve sensor inside the tank that is causing the problem and the tank would have to be replaced. a costly fix. this can be quite dangerous as the car will hesitate and stall even at highway speeds. it seems that this is a fairly common problem. i asked my local chrysler dealer assistant manager if he had ever heard of this problem and he said no, and also checked for any existing chrysler service bulletins on this subject and found none . *tr

After filling gas tank with fuel engine will stall for the first few miles. has stopped in traffic/roadway putting myself in danger after putting fuel into the car. *tr

Every time i put gas in my chrysler 300c and start the engine, the car tends to jerk forward and then the engine literally shuts down. this is a very serious problem, because the engine has shut down while i'm on the interstate; after filling up gas tank to capacity, my vehicle stalled after driving for not even one mile because fuel flooded the engine. the vehicle restarted after several attempts but my vehicle continued to stall after a distance. i took vehicle to an authorized dealer who stated that the fuel tank needed to be replaced.the fuel tank was replaced, but i am very concerned that this problem could have caused a crash resulting in a lot of damage and possible death!! *tr

After filling gas tank, car stalls many times before running ok, until next fill up and then it does the same thing every time. *tr

Every time i fill up the fuel tank the car cuts off for at least 25 miles on any spead and turns off at speed less than 25. *tr

After the car was topped off with fuel the engine stalls. it is then very difficult to start. it happened 4 different times. the engine would stall if you did not keep your foot on the gas and put the car in neutral. the mph did not make a difference on stalling. it started stalling immediately after full-up. *tr

My car stalls after refueling the tank. i am using "plus" gas and it still stalls several times after refueling, usually at a stop light or slowing down but also when just driving along. the car will buck a few times and then just stall out. it takes a few tries to get it to turn over but eventually it will. this happens every time we fuel up.i bought the car second-hand from a dealer who liked to charge me for misc repairs they never actually fixed (according to my own mechanic). my mechanic has no answers. other than this dangerous problem, i like my vehicle, do you know if chrysler has the answer and if this can be resolved? i am guessing at when the problem started. sometime in 2012 shortly after the purchase

Problem first occurred at approx 41k miles. had just refilled tank and car refused to start. let car sit for 1/2 hour and car restarted. problem has occurred intermittently since then - always after refilling the tank. sometimes the car is hard to start after a refill and other times it stalls, typically when leaving the gas station. i use the auto-fill feature at gas stations and do not overfill. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300 c. the contact stated that when refueling, the vehicle would stall or accelerate independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the fuel tank and the filler neck needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 96,000.

Car stalls many times after fill up. car will operate normally after a few miles of driving. *tr

I noticed that when i refueled my car, it would stall right away. it has happened may times when i refueled my car. i didn't matter what brand or octane i used. i went on line and noticed other people having the same problem. one of the solutions i used was not to fill up my car all the up. they (blog websites) said that the engine becomes flooded (they went to the dodge dealerships and that's what they told them, and the entire fuel system had to be changed from the gas tank to fuel lines and evap system ) and the car cant correct itself and stalls. and ever since i started doing this solution my car hasn't stalled. if i do fill up my car all the way i have to burn off some gas in order for the car to be safe to drive. *tr

The engine will stall after every fill-up. it stalls within 15 seconds after starting it up at the gas station. it will then stall repeatedly at intersections and every time the car comes to a stop. in addition, it has stalled while making right hand turns and misfires and stumbles while at speed. the stalling/misfiring episodes do not occur once 2-3 gallons of gas have been consumed. this situation is extremely dangerous as i have been nearly rear ended as traffic started to pull away from a green light, and also stalled at intersections while making right turns. the chrysler dealer said nothing was wrong since they didn't find any codes or tsb's regarding this problem. i have taken the car to an independent garage and they found a lot of chatter on their mechanic help websites. they think it might be the emission control that sits on top of the gas tank. the top gas in the tank is flooding over to the engine and stalling it out. since chrysler nor anyone else can say what definitively is going on i have cautiously not been filling the tank. this car is dangerous since the next owner may not be aware of this issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300c. the contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the contact also mentioned that the failure recurred several times before the vehicle functioned normally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300c. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled while entering the highway at 45 mph. the contact was a able to restart the engine and the vehicle resumed normal function. the contact stated the failure was experienced multiple times when the fuel tank was filled to capacity. the fuel tank had to be filled to 3/4 full in order to avoid multiple stalling failures. the vehicle was taken to the deale, who advised the contact that the fuel vapor recovery system failed and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 72,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chrysler 300c. the contact stated that after refueling to capacity and driving 10 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 108,496 and the current mileage was 146,000.

Engine stalls at least once after refueling. the dealer replaced the fuel-line purge valve last year, but it didn't fix the problem. i was told on several occasions that it was bad gas that was causing the problem, but i've tried using several brands of fuel without any luck. i don't drive the vehicle that much, but i have had a few near accidents because the engine accelerates before shutting off. *tr

The car stalls at random after a fuel fill up. eventually it will run normally, however it happens multiple times first and puts me in a dangerous position when it stalls in traffic. i have had both fuel pumps replaced last year and it seemed to help for a while, now the problem is back. *tr

We bought the car used. every time we fill the gas tank up, it stalls after about half a block or less of driving. *tr

Our 2006 chrysler 300 srt8 dies after fueling the gas tank to full. it has died in intersections were we have almost been hit and in turns car dies, locks up and there is no power anything. we have taken it to the dealership 4 times and continuously pay money to turn run diagnostic, only to hear " we cannot duplicate the problem" i have spent $400.00 to be told there is nothing wrong.car becomes very hard to restart. once i get the vehicle started, again the stalling starts, this will happen several times before the car remains on. as i drive home, i could feel the car "sputtering" or hesitating like it wanted to shut down again. when starting car in the morning it feels like it wants to die. please help this car is my family's main transportation and i fear that one day this issue will cause a crash. i have a 3 year old and a baby on the way. help!!! chrysler does not care about lives, only the bottom line. *tr

Bought the car used. after only a week, the car started stalling and would die at most stops. the fuel tank was replaced by dealer per extended warranty. this did not solve the problem!!! it's worse now than before the tank was replaced!! this is a very dangerous car to drive!! there are thousands of these case reported. chrysler needs to figure this out and make good on a very serious safety issue. how many have to die before something is done?!!!! *tr

This was the first of several incidences. after fueling, the engine began rough idling. i thought i had just gotten water in my tank. after several minutes the engine seemed to smooth out and i left the gas station and entered a busy intersection. as i entered the intersection, i pressed down on the accelerator and the engine stalled. there were cars all around me as i tried to restart the engine. after several tries, it started and i pulled to the side of the road. the engine ran roughly for several more minutes and once again smoothed out. the stalling can also happen during right turns, but always happens after refueling. my dealer said the problem was the valve on top of the gas tank. when filling the tank, fuel leaks over into the cannister which then floods out the engine. because the valve and the tank are one unit, the entire tank must be replaced. since a repair is so expensive, i now do not fill my tank above the 3/4 level. *tr

After filling the gas tank the vehicle is prone to stall. this can happen at random times and speeds. if you only fill the tank up 3/4 of the way it seems to alleviate the problem. no trouble codes are set. after stalling the vehicle can sometimes be restarted immediately, other times it might have to sit for 5 minutes. *tr

The first time i had this problem, i filled up my car after a trip, and upon leaving the gas station my engine stalled and the car would not come back on. i could not get the car to crank and when the engine did come on once the rpms would not settle and they kept dipping to almost zero before the engine cut off. i had the car towed to a repair shop where they were unable to fix the issue. i've had this happen about five times and i finally had one repair shop tell me to not fill my gas tank up all the way and it should prevent the cut offs. i then failed an emissions test and had to have my gas cap replaced. i thought that this had solved the problem so i tried to fill the tank up all the way again and it immediately cut off after starting it up. i was able to rev the engine and use up some of the gas and managed to get the car home with the rpms constantly dipping almost to zero. the car cut out at a stop light and i then had to get it started again after sitting in the intersection stalled. i've had my car inspected by two chrysler dealers, a few independent repair shops, and also a nissan dealer where i know the head mechanic. the only answers i've gotten were that it is a faulty o2 sensor and needs a new gas tank. *tr

After refueling, car stalls, hesitates and shuts off multiple times for several minutes or miles. only happens when tank is filled all the way to automatic pump shut-off. this happens to me almost every time i refuel, unless i stop refueling a gallon or two short of full ( work-around that i discovered only recently). it is dangerous and has not caused an accident yet, but has put me in several white-knuckle situations sitting at an intersection with no power. *tr

My car stalled in the middle of an intersection and i was almost broadsided by another car. my car stalls and bucks every time i fill up with gas. this happens when i am stopped, at low speeds and at highway speeds. it has caused a dangerous situation on numerous occasions. i took my car to the chrysler dealership in lakeland, fl about three years ago and their solution to the problem was to tell me to not fill the tank all the way up. that is not the proper solution to this problem. it needs to be fixed before someone gets killed! *js

I bought a 2006 chrysler 300c new from the dealership in may of 2006. at approximate 25,000 miles it began to shut off after filling up the gas tank completely at the gas station. i've always put the correct fuel in my car as recommended by the manual and the dealerships i've taken her to for routine maintenance. at intermittent intervals throughout the ownership of my car, it has shut off, stranded me on dark roads and have almost caused accidents on highways, busy streets with my children in the car. this car has been dealership maintained & i've adamantly followed the maintenance schedules. have taken it to the dealership and had spark plugs, fuel pump, water pump, thermometer changed all needlessly. i've spent close to $4000 in repairs and needless parts.the dealership has ran various diagnostics and haven't found anything wrong. the car now has close to 76,000 miles on it and will shut off if the gas tank goes to the quarter of tank mark or when it's full. i never top it off because i've been warned not to top off my gas intake. i've sought second opinions on why this might be happening and the dealerships in ny, nj and fl have informed me that this is a common complaint they receive for all of the chrysler 300 series. this is a dangerous malfunction that could possibly cost lives plus cost an expensive loss for this car. i've spoken to other owners plus researched other forums, and there are hundreds of the same complaints about when the car is fueled especially after the car reaches 50,000 miles on it. the last incident was oct. 30, 2013 in which i was almost in an accident due to the fact that my car shut off at a stop light after the light turned green. the cars behind me started to move and the car directly behind me had to swerve to keep from hitting me. this is a dangerous problem. *tr

I have had engine stalling after refueling on numerous occasions since 2007. received a letter dated may 8, 2014 from chrysler group llc informing me that my model chrysler has a condition where the furl shut-off float in the multifunction control valve sticks, causing the vehicle to stall. the letter informed me that the warranty on the tank had been extended to lifetime coverage. this is where my problem with the vehicle continues.... on 17 june 2014 took my vehicle to cutter chrysler in pearl city, hawaii 96782 to get it repaired (my wife will not ride in the vehicle because of the stalling). i was informed that the part is on back order (approximately 2-3 months). i went back in september and was informed it should be 1-2 weeks. i went back today 3 november 2014 and was informed still on back order with no date as to when parts may be received. chrysler has not adequately addressed this problem with an extended warranty, when you can't get your vehicle repaired because of back ordered parts. it has been 6 months and no repair in sight. my wife does not consider this low risk to vehicle safety and has not ridden in the vehicle since 2008! how can the preliminary evaluation be closed when chrysler has not adequately addressed fixing the problem. warranty extended, but no parts!! investigation closed but no repairs. the problem is still a problem! *tr

After filling gas tank car would shut off while driving and i would lose control of car to stear. after sat all car would start and drive ok. danger is when car stalls on the road while driving. this happened several times, could not fill tank up.
