Problems with 2015 Chrysler 200 ENGINE

On average, the 2015 Chrysler 200 starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 47 214 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2015 Chrysler 200

When using cruise control it will not hold speed going down hill - will shift down more than once & will go up to 60+ miles per hour. going over a small hill will shift down more than once usually - not all the time. this has been flashed several times with no change to the problem. when first starting the car the tach stays very high & will decrease as you shift into reverse, but not enough. have to hold your foot on the brake all the time. when leaving from a stop sign the transmission will not go "in" right away - it takes a bit to actually "go".. as you're pulling onto a highway.

Loss of speed& shaking of car as it slowed down & showed to put it p & start. happened also at 30 miles an hour in parking lot, then ran ok 5 miles to dealership. fear to take it any where.

I purchased vehicle 7/31/2015, on 8/17/2015 vehicle began to jerk, miss out , try to die when driving and then the check engine light came on. i took into shop 8/18/2015 and found out that the motor was bad and it was a factory default and needed replaced. motor had 468 miles on it. upon further investigation, we found out that an entire line was produced where some of these motors were not put together properly (missing a seal). to this date, 10/7/2015 i still have not seen any recall or any mention of said problem. my motor was to be replaced, i told chrysler i wanted them to take the car back. i had only 2 weeks and the major part of vehicle was junk. they suggested a replacement, we tried that solution and 4 weeks into it, they had still not moved. i am now asking them to buy back the vehicle and let me move on. i feel like the public should be aware of this, as there is potentially hundreds of vehicles out there with bad motors sitting on lots, driveways, garages or driving down the road just waiting to fail.

My wife was driving home and the engine suddenly stopped without any warning. the electrical system continued to run, but no engine. the service engine light and battery light came on. she managed to get the car to the side of the road. she waited about 10 minutes and was able to restart the car and drive home ( about 10 miles). i drove the car to work and back ( about 24 miles round trip ) the next day without any problems. i drove the car the next day to work and it happened two times to me before i got to work. i called the dealer to have it towed in. i had done some research online to see if there were any other complaints when i found this website. i saw a complaint from someone in lakewood california that listed a recall #, (14113 ro1 recall wc 0.50 to reprogram the pcm (power control module) and the tcm (trans control module)) so when we took the car to the dealer i gave them this information. they had the car 5 days and test drove it several times. they said they did the reprogramming and also secured a wiring harness ( which was also mentioned in several complaints) along with a couple of other updates that were covered under the warranty. we have the car back now, time and miles will tell if this was the solution or not.

While driving on the expressway at approx 65 mph my vehicle cut off without warning. i lost all power. i was able to manuever to the shoulder and then the check engine light and transmission failure light came on. it took several minutes turning vehicle on and off and trying to shift before the vehicle would come on and shift into drive. this occured on two other occassions. the last time almost resulted in an accident because i couldn't get out of the way of cars coming behind me.

Leaving for work in the am, started my 2015 chrysler 200, reversed out of my driveway, made it to the corner of my cul de sac and the engine completely shut off. there was a message in the display including the words "trans," and "emergency park." the entire electrical system shut down and the emergency brake engaged. i could not put the car in park because the gear system was locked up. when the tow truck arrived he had a hard time with it because the emergency brake would not release, and the wheels would not roll. i couldn't move this car if i wanted to. i couldn't open the trunk, lock the doors, use flashers, nothing... anything electrical was out of commission. my local chrysler dealership had the car for two days, said they "performed many software upgrades" and "test drove it extensively" and that it was fixed. 20 minutes after i picked it up, i was driving in the center lane of a 3-lane highway, with my 4 year old and 1 year old in the car, and the engine shut down and the car's power and electrical system shut down also. luckily, i was able to coast into a parking lot. i had the car towed back to the dealer again. the manager of the dealership said if it happens again, i can replace the car or they will buy it back. i am terrified to drive this car again. i was lucky the first time, barely lucky the second time, who knows what situation i might be in if i agree to let this happen again? i cannot put my children in this car again. this vehicle is a substantial safety risk, and also poses additional risks to other drivers on the road around it. since everything shuts off when this happens, if i were to get into a crash as a result of it, the airbags likely would not deploy, adding to the risk of injury. i do not feel comfortable in a chrysler 200, i no longer want this vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chrysler 200. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle decelerated as the instrument panel illuminated. as a result, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was restarted. the contact mentioned that the failure recurred four times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was repaired under an unknown manufacturers recall but the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed back to the dealer where the technician informed that the engine control module or the ignition control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 2,000.

I was driving and my dashboard started blinking telling me i had to park the car. once i parked for a little bit i was able to restart it but the engine light was still blinking. i was able to get it home before it shut off again and i will have it towed today. this is the second time within the last month that this has happened with the car.

While driving we experienced the vehicle had stopped and we were just coasting for a few blocks. the engine stopped running. some messages popped up and afterwards, when we tried to restart the vehicle, it would not turn on. this is the 2nd time this has happened. good thing we were not going fast or in traffic or i don't know what would of happened. we towed the vehicle, again, to the dealership where they too saw that the vehicle was not turning on. the vehicle just made a noise like it wanted to turn on but just couldn't. everything else was working, radio, windows, etc.

The car stalled while i was driving on the highway. it would not restart. i had it towed to the dealership. they advised me it started right up and everything looked fine. i picked it up from the dealership and made it about 4 miles and the car stalled again while i was driving down the highway. i had the car towed back to the dealership. i am now waiting for their repair of the vehicle. both times the car stalled while i was driving my children were in the car with me.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chrysler 200. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. the vehicle was restarted and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle shook and a loud ticking noise occurred under the hood. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and was later taken to autonation chrysler dodge jeep ram & fiat north phoenix (located at 16406 n 26th ave, phoenix, az 85023) where it was diagnosed that cylinder number six and the wire harness failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

Car has stalled out on multiple random times. first happened to my boyfriend when he was driving in town, he told me about it and i assumed he maybe did something to cause the problem. the second time it has happened was when i was in the car and my boyfriend was driving it again and it stalled out again in the middle of the intersection with no traffic around. since then, it has done it three times in town in 25mph speed limits zones.around the same time this was happening, i had received the recall letter and set up an appointment and just had to wait till that day. i notified the shop the day of my appointment and told them the problem and they assumed that the new recall fix would hopefully and maybe fix the problem. since then, it has stalled out four times, and three of the times happened in the same day. the first stall out was in town again and right away i called the dealership shop to schedule an appointment again and there soonest availability was about a month away so i had no control over that. it wasn't until the next day that it happened 3 times throughout the day and 2 of those times were within a 10 minute window and this time it was on the highway. i was lucky enough at the stalling times that there was little to no traffic around me in town and on the highway, where i was able to pull over to the side safely, shut the car off and turn it back on. the dealership has the car still, they have driven it themselves for a couple days and it did not happen to them once and they cannot find an issue so they were forced to give me my car back. the problem with this issue is the stalling problem happens at random times& in different speed zone areas. very scary thought to have when driving on the road with heavy traffic, trucks, semi's, etc. behind you and not knowing if your car is going to stall or not that day or very much to that minute you are driving.

Engine stalls/shuts off while driving july 13th, 2015 while driving the car the engine shut down, would not re-start right away. got it restarted. made arrangements to take it into dealer. while at the dealer they said the computer had to be re-program we picked the car up july 17th. august 4th 2015 the same thing happened. it was at the dealership until august 10th. while in the shop the did many tests. said they had a service bulletin pins on the computer board had to be straightened. repairs were made and was told they were pretty sure they have resolved the problem. was not real comfortable with that answer. august 17th the same problem occured. the car is now at the dealership for the same issue. checking on line this is not an issolated problem. hundreds of complaints

Engine stall , would not allow to shift the car gears. my wife was so scared and frustrated as well because of ongoing traffic and with our childrens in the car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chrysler 200. the contact stated that the transmission warning light randomly flashed, the vehicle had a drastic reduction in speed and stalled several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice and the contact stated that they replaced two different sensors but the failure recurred. the contact also mentioned that the key fob also failed to work intermittently. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who tightened the motor mounts. the contact was waiting on instructions from the manufacturer to instruct the dealer on repairing the vehicle. the failure mileage was not available.

At the time of incident, the car was 11 months old. i was driving at 50 mph when the engine stalled and would not start again. it shook and sputtered continuously when attempting to start. i had the vehicle towed to the nearest dealership. it was returned to me after one day of repairs. i drove six miles and parked at a shopping center. when attempting to leave the shopping center parking lot, the vehicle once again refused to start, even though i was told it had been repaired. i had it towed again. the vehicle underwent repairs and testing for an entire week before being returned to me yet again. i have driven the vehicle since then with no apparent issues, but the problem i encountered must be prevented before it occurs. it was life-threatening, and it would be even more so had i been driving at freeway speeds or parked in dangerous surroundings.

Vehicle shut off while driving approx. 40 mph. vehicle started blinking put car in park, service transmission, service park break. then, it shut off on its own. all gears locked up and car would not restart. i was a sitting duck in the roadway. this has happened x2, july 2nd, 2015 and august 10th, 2015. had it towed both times. first time chrysler dealer stated they replaced tcm. this second time they are stating the car is reading multiple codes and they don't know what to fix.

My car jerks and/or hesitates while driving or accelerating from stop or coasting at 30 - 55mph . from a complete stop position my car has sputtered and rattled like the transmission or engine was having trouble engaging. i have a rattling sound coming from the engine compartment and you can hear it clearly coming from the passenger side with the windows down. a brand new car and it has a lot of transmission issues. chrysler doesn't do anything unless it throws a code. 15 times in the repair shop. the car is at the shop now, and the tech is having trouble recreating the issue. please someone do something about this.

Engine over heated, vehicle stalled on me in front of a mechanic shop luckily. vehicle wouldn't start for nothing. i try over and over to start the vehicle and it wouldn't start. you can also start smelling burning smell coming from under the hood of the engine compartment . several times vehicle couldn't start. left the vehicle. the next day, mechanic came over and check the vehicle out and check the water, oil, and everything else and did a engine check and ten codes came up and something regarding cam shaft. vehicle took several attempts to run again.

My vehicle stall on i-95 and when trying to go over 45mph, it won't go over 45mph, the vehicle overheats , check engine light is one, fcw is on and throttle service light also came on. engine rev high when trying to go over a certain speed. vehicle sometimes doesn't start. vehicle is giving engine problem. smoke is coming out, very very very loud whining noise when in drive going over 35mph

I was driving 70 mph on i-64 in va, there was a little bit of an incline after leaving the tunnel and crossing the bridge , every time i tried to accelerate the car felt as if i was slamming on the brakes. it started to do it constantly and eventually the car starting flashing all sorts of error messages and completely locking up. i was in the passing lane and had to swerve onto the grass to avoid being rear ended. unfortunately the butt of the vehicle was still partly in traffic and i had to wait until the car decided to restart to pull the rest of the way off of the road. i waited some more time to try and drive it again, at least to the right shoulder. when i started it again i was able to get to the right before it started locking up again. at this point when i tried to turn the car off, it would just shake and stay in run, several times it did this and wouldn't let me shut the car off. after about 10 minutes i was able to shut it off and wait for towing to come. the car is currently at the chrysler dealership for repair. i hope chrysler is able to resolve the issue because i am terrified to drive a vehicle that chooses to shut off whenever it wants to....updated 08/06/15 *bf

Pulled out of my parking spot and engine stalled and shut off said to put in park and it struggled to turn over, then drove down the road and stalled again happened about 6-7 times already also happened to me 3 times within 5 mins

I was merging onto the highway and my dashboard started blinking telling me i had to park the car. once i parked it i could not get it to start again and had it towed to chrysler. they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it and reset the pcm to get it to start again.

Car loses oil even when not due for oil change not burning up just loses it cause car to stall and not start horrible engineering flaw just had a oil change last week and continues to do this

When i am driving my whole panel turns off and on, i go to take off and it hesiate a few seconds than goes, it does it at stop lights and while on the highway in traffic, brakes make a real loud noise i leave it park most of the time i am at 6320 mile i bought it in april 17, 2015 i should be over 10,000 mile but i am afraid to drive it

Friday: while wife was driving the car suddenly vibrated and stalled. the vehicle indicated it was still running even though it was off. was unable to shut off completely for a few minutes, after about 10 minutes car restarted, check engine light remained on. dealer said to continue to drive. engine light went off over the weekend. sunday: driving at approximately 25 miles per hour car suddenly stalled and we were able to coast to side of road. car indicated it was still on and running even though it was off. was able to put car in park and eventually shut it off. car would not restart. car would not change gears, so unable to put it in neutral when tow arrived. towed to dealer and they held it until friday. said that the pins in the power distribution center were loose and that was the problem. friday: picked car up from dealer, wife drove it less than 1 mile and it stalled and shut off again in an intersection. after approximately 10 minutes the car restarted. is now back at the dealer.

I was picking up my brother from the store and my car turned itself off. i then restarted it which took 3 times and it finally turned over and started. i then made it about 15 min down the freeway to pick up my daughter and left my brother in the running car only to return to the car being off. i tried over 6 times to restart it and it choked then told me engine warming try again later and shut off. i then called the dealership who then towed it back. after a week of having it they decided it was an electrical short and gave it back, however i don't think they fixed it because on 6/27/15 i had yet another issue with the electrical that cause my entire center console to quit on me and continue to reboot itself and freeze all while showing the backup camera screen while i was clearly going forward for miles.

The first incident i was driving through the city approximately 35 mph when the engine shut off. i was not able to restart my car immediately. after multiple attempts the car restarted and i was able to drive it approximately 1 mile before the engine quit again. i restarted it again after multiple attempts and parked it. i drove it home 3 hours later and it appeared to be normal. about a week later i was traveling on the highway when the engine stopped working again. i was traveling 70 mph. i had the vehicle towed to a chrysler dealership where they could not "re-create" the incident so they gave me the car back. i had the vehicle for approximately 3 days when the engine died again while i was driving it. this time i was in the city traveling approximately 25 mph. i let the car sit for about 3 hours again and was able to restart it after multiple attempts. i was able to get the car back to the chrysler dealership i bought it from. they have stated a re-call was done on it and the vehicle has been reprogrammed. the recall they stated that was done did not have anything to do with the engine so it is unknown at this time if the vehicle is actually fixed or not.

Engine is revving high, vehicle stall on the highway over five times, vehicle over heats, vehicle has a winning noise, vehicle transmission jumps plenty of time, vehicle rev, vehicle has slow acceleration, vehicle has slow start up, vehicle steering is rattling.

I was driving down the street going 25 mph and when i pushed down on gas pedal it felt like my transmission jerk and stalled for a second and then started driving normal. i jus bought this car on april 29 2015 and it's and it's doing this already. *tr

While driving car home on my first day from the dealer the engine stalled at 40 mph i was able to pull over and re-start the car, start driving again thinking nothing of it it stalled again and again 2 blocks from home. next morning bringing back to dealer it stalled 3 times on reverse getting out of driveway. only 100 miles on new car and it's at the dealer for major issue, i do not feel comfortable driving the car special with my 5 year daughter in it. this could happen at highway speeds during traffic hours..... at the moment i'm waiting to hear back from the dealer, they told me it's was fist time that they heard of this problem with 200c.

I was made aware of a recall effecting certain vin#s in the model year 2015 chrysler 200 line. this recall was for "contaminated, dislodged or broken parking pawl or park rod (nhtsa recall id 15v-090): ". when i search by my vin# i do not see that mine is included but i can tell you from shortly after purchasing the vehicle until now, on a weekly basis i will pull into a parking spot/driveway and put my car in park and it will continue to roll forward or backward 1-3 feet before it actually stops moving. it seems to me that either the dealership failed to inspect this car properly before we purchased it or that that there are more vin#s that should be evaluated for the issue. i would be happy to take my car to the dealership so that they can experience what this car does.

On may 3, 2015 while driving down the highway with my children, the car stalled and i lost complete control of all steering and braking function. i immediately placed on my hazards as cars swerved left and right to avoid slamming into me. i attempted to restart the car and it wouldn't restart. after sitting for approximately 5 minutes, the car finally restarted. as i finally started to go, the car would accelerate quickly and then slow down. within 10 minutes, it stalled again while driving. it did this 2 more times. service was called and the car was taken to the shop. the next day i received a call that the car was fixed. i picked up the car and drove it for one day. driving home from work on may 6, 2015, it again stalled while i was driving and almost caused me to crash as i lost all steering and braking ability. again, the car would not restart. service was called and took the car to a different authorized dealer. i received a call today may 8th that the car was fixed and ready to go. i picked up the car and drove home. before arriving to my home, the car stalled again and again i lost all steering and braking ability. service was called once more and the car was taken back to the shop it went to the first time this happened on may 3. *tr

On a few occasions going down hill on a highway, there is an unintended acceleration. then the transmission will stall into gear going downhill as well. the engine will be at very high rpm for the speed i go which is 45-50. often when i back out in reverse, the brakes make a humming noise.

My finance and i went on trip to tennessee. on the expressway i was driving around 70 miles per hour. the car started to slow down on it own in the middle of traffic. it dropped from 70 to 60 and then to 45 without me doing anything. it started shifting gears automatically on it owns. then i pushed the gas and it went back up to 70. once we arrived to tennessee we had to go up mountains and the car started to stall again in the mountains. this was very scary. as i was going into the mountains the car almost stopped while driving. the car kept shifting gears even when i am barely pressing the gas. i had to pull over and shut the car off and start it again. the car started stalling the first day of purchasing it but i thought it was suppose to this until it did it on the express way. i have a brand new car that i am afraid to drive it on long distance trips because of this issue. talk about disappointing. *tr

My family and i where exiting the freeway off-ramp, when all off a sudden the car stalled on me. my kids where absolutely scared, they where very nervous when a car almost hit us. on one occasion a car came from the side swerving towards us honking nearly side swiping us. at this point in time i am very dissatisfied with the safety of the car. my family means the world to me, never did i think a brand new car will give me an absolute turnaround on the safety outcome it's given us up until now. i received a letter along with a phone call about the recall on the make and model that i purchased (chrysler 200) recall status. i immediately set up an appointment with the dealer to take it in for the following recall service: 14113 ro1 recall wc 0.50 reprogrammed pcm and tcm module. then 14 days after the service, the car broke down on the freeway putting myself and my family in harms way of a tragic accident. my wife is terrified at the idea of driving that car again for fear that something might happen while she's driving alone just her and our kids. at this point i am very concerned for my family's safety with this car because it could it been a lot worse. i expect a speedy solution to this issue and i am seriously considering trading in this vehicle for another with a better safety record. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chrysler 200. while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle began to slow down and then stalled. the contact mentioned that the engine and traction warning lights illuminated. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the software needed to be updated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 12,000.

My wife was driving home from work last night, and the car shut down without warning. we have had the car for 10 months now, and this is the second time in two weeks that has happened. what i am most concern with is, if we are driving the car at the posted speed limit of 70 mph, and the car shuts off, what the consequences of that may be. i ask that you would please, please look into this issue, as it will eventually cause someone with this type of car to have a deadly accident, which i know can be avoided if it is taken care of in a timely manner. what is even worse for us is, the car dealership will not be able to even look at the car until 30 apr 15, due to their overload of vehicles that they see on a daily basis, which now puts us at even more of a risk of an accident. my wife and i both work, and need both cars, but i will sacrifice missing work to ensure she makes it to her job safely. again, i ask that you please, please take a look into this issue. i have been online and have seen many other complaints about the same issue with this particular car. *tr
