Air conditioning condenser leaking. dealer wants $1000 to repair. this is a known defect on this condenser, bad welds, yet gm takes no fault even though tens of thousands of these have failed. with asthma, i need a/c and this vehicle is no safe without it. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 chevrolet venture. the air conditioning system failed while in use. the dealer stated that the air compressor was replaced. however, the failure recurred. the dealer stated that the gasket seals needed to be replaced. the fuel gauge no longer indicated how much fuel was in the vehicle. the dealer stated that the sensor in the fuel tank had to be replaced. also, there was a shortage in the driver's side turn signal, causing the signal to fail. the dealer repaired the signal. yet it failed repeatedly. the current and failure mileage were 85000. *ak

Dt: consumer had a 2001 chevrolet venture. the air conditioner condenser cracked and freon leaked out. consumer found a technical service bulletin concerning this problem. consumer felt that because he transports his children it was a safety issue. dealership stated this happened in many of these vehicles. *ak.*jb

Dt: air conditioner condenser leaked. the consumer was told by a local repair shop that there were about a thousand of these condensers replaced in the last months. the condenser leaked from the lower left side from a faulty weld. *ak *nm

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) i own a 2001 gray chevrolet venture minivan & often times for about the last 5 years now and even at the present time, the accelerator speeds up without any explanation and i have to pump the brakes several times before attempting to turn the car back on again to stop it from continuously accelerating. when the vehicle is off and when i have to pump the brakes, the brake pedal actually pumps up to deactivate the acceleration process temporarily. this happens often during the summer months when air condition is in use and it also happens alot when you are driving and the accelerator will just speed up suddenly for no reason. i have had it inspected by the dealership once about 5 years ago when this first started and they say that it is some kind of braking security feature once they hooked it up to their computer system and said it was nothing to be concerned about but other auto mechanics that have inspected my brakes on the vehicle don't seem to know anymore than the dealership knows because the vehicle is computerized. all the other mechanics do is change my brakes pads when they wear down but can't explain the sudden acceleration now that i am hearing about all of the controversies with toyota motors braking defaults and the deaths and injuries associated with it i am really getting concerned about my vehicle continuously accelerating for no explainable reason. i think chevrolet will probably try and hid something because they don't want the bad exposure that toyota is getting so i really don't want to deal with them right now especially after them telling me basically nothing in the past. can you please advice me what to do??? Bad/leaking manifold gasket...... coolant leaks....causing water pump to burn out...replaced twice already....and coolant to get in with oil. *tr estimated repair cost > $700

Purchased this mini-van used from chevrolet dealership on 2/27/2004. air conditioner failed in august 2004. independent mechanic (not with dealership) said it was the condenser. called dealership for estimate. advised that repair & replacement woudl be approximately $925. dealer agred to replace it with us paying $200 deductible for labor. parts replaced (per dealership invoice) are the condenser, clamp, retainer, & seal. *ak

My chevrolet venture 2001 transmission has gone out with only 61000 miles. there has been alreadry some recalls on this van. i believe this to be a factory fault.*ak

Dt: the contact stated temperature gauge was going up and down. the dealer told him the thermometer was not working. he picked up the car and in 3 three days later the car blew up. he had it towed a week later they told him a new engine was needed. it has been 5 weeks since he took the vehicle to the dealer, they still have not fixed it. on the 2nd day after he bought the car the air conditioner was not working.*ak *jb

Driver window would not roll up or down. dealer repaired with new motor. windows (both) have since gone out twice. since the warrenty has now expired, my husband replaced the whole window mechanizem and it still gets "stuck" in both positions on both front windows. the motor and switches go out less than a year after they are replaced.*ak

My 2001 chevy venture's air conditioning condenser obtained a crack, causing the ac fluid to leak out and not function. vehicle is at 39000 miles and barely out of warranty. speaking with parts dept at a local dealer, apparently this is a common problem caused by normal flexing of the vehicle's framework, and a costly one to repair (abt $850.00 parts and labor). the consumer should not need to pay for design defects like this. ac condensers are not a component that routinely crack, especially in vehicles this new.

While driving a little while radio volume control button got severe hot. there is no way consumer could control the volume or changed radio station. this is original equipment. *ak

I purchased the vehicle brand new in 2001. since then, my vcr that is installed in the venture was defective and repaired four times. each time under warranty but it was inconvienent for me. the brakes went out on me twice that i repaired at a mechanic, then the a/c wouldn't cool (this is recently), now the oxygen sensor is causing the "service engine" message on my dash board to light up. this car is only 2 years old!!! i maintain my car well, the manager of the chevrolet dealership tried to accomodate me (once) so that i won't make a fuss and call the media on them. i was not aware of the lemon law until recently.

Purchased van july 2001. i have discontinued putting my son in installed child seat because he complains it hurts his legs; when he goes to get out he can't hardly walk;i think the position of the seat causes his legs to go to sleep. since purchase of van i have had it in for service several times. (1) i complained of vibration in the front when i got up to a speed over 50 mph; the service techs could not find anything wrong. (2) i complained of (while traveling) hearing air ventilation (like a window was down) on the passenger side; nothing was found. (3) when purchased the vehicle we stated our concern that door did not retract immediately. i put my arm in to demonstrate; it pinched my arm and bruised it before it finally retracted (4) i have also had my van in complaining that the cd player did not operate properly. they said it was defective and replaced my entire radio/cd. (5) complained that while driving (noticing at night) my headlights would dim and come back on. after not finding anything they replaced the alternator. it is again happening. (6) recent concern is while on an upward hill at a red light water started coming in through the storage compartment between the visors. now they are declaring that the windshield was not properly sealed when it was installed. i have had this vehicle now for almost two years. my thought is that it may have been leaking but now just to the point that i am noticing it. how much damage has it caused in my head liner, etc. that they will not be able to detect with the naked eye and is the air ventilation that i was hearing a result of the windshield not being sealed; and is the water leakage causing my shortage in the wiring of the lights and radio, etc. my concern is later down the road will i have more deteriorating problems because of water damage that could not be seen at this point. *nlm

While my vehicle was parked and turned off, my 4 year old knocked it out of gear, come to find out that it goes from the parked status to the 1st gear without having to have key in or push the brake petal to take it out of gear it is free flowing, and very dangerous. i was very fortunately loading some groceries when it happened and with the assistance of a very nice person walking by, were able to get it back into park and no injuries accrued, i dread to think of what would have happened if one of my two young children would have been in my position, what the outcome could have been. *nlm

The passenger side power sliding door kept getting stuck. it would not lock or stay closed, not even manually. the door also opened on its own. the wiper motor crank arm failed. the drivers side mirror had a residue on it. the weather stripping on the sliding door was loose and warped. the rear speakers were noisy. *scc *nlm

Found that the condenser weld on the a/c unit is faulty in my 2001 chevy venture van. i know the condensers are on national backorder which leads me to believe the failure is common. would this not be a problem if i were working under the vehicle and the weld failed resulting in the displacement of oxygen in the work environment. i would suggest a recall to fix the suspect welds.*ak

2001 chevy venture 12 months old approx 14,000 miles, radiator seam split right lower corner leaking antifreeze. ac also stopped working, condenser seam split, right lower corner. replaced by dealer. vehicle now 18 months old approx 21,000 miles, ac stopped working. condenser seam split lower right front corner. dealer replaced. appears to be a structural defect in design stressing the radiator and condenser via the mounting scheme. vehicle is a lemon. first time repaired dealer had to order condenser. this time repaired he had 3 in stock! *jb
