My auto mechanic told me my power chain is loose & that it's common in my car & i should report it. my car feels like it's dragging when i try to accelerate.
A mechanic told me my power train chain is loose and that this is common in 2011 6 engines and to report it cause it should be a recall issue. this is a common problem and needs to be addressed. my car will barely make it up a hill and the fuel mileage has gone down.
Driving at highway speed of 75 mph, the motor siezed without any warning. the motor locked and the technician said the engine needs to be replaced. he commented something wrong with the engineering of the engine specific to oil. he is concern that changing the engine may result in the same situation given the motor's design.
I drove down to my daughters on sunday december 1st 2019 which is in freasterville pa and we live in mechanicsburg pa. so i drive the turnpike and i have done this trip a lot, having no issues at all with my traverse 2011. on monday we both got into my car as nd drove back to mechanicsburg because she had to pick up her vehicle for work the next day, we get home monday night 12/2/2019 no problems still parked in my driveway and everything is good . next morning 12/3/2019 i go to take her to get her work car we get in my suv still in my driveway and it made this god awful noise and i turned it off immediately and yelled to my husband something is wrong. he goes to try it and it sounds like the car wants to start and nothing it won't. we have it flat bedded to cralls garage in harrisburg and he called said that we need a new engine he said it was making a noise in the lower back end of motor and we need a new motor. we owe 13000.00 on this car and i love it hiw can this happen. he said it will cost 5000.00 for a new motor and i can not afford it. .i have read so many reviews that this is happening to 2011 traverses how can the manufacturer not fix this . i had no warnings at all no engine lights nothing. please help
The engine time chain is bad. if the time chain finishes braking it will kill off all the engine making the repair over $5,000 it seems like is a very common problem on these cars with the 3.6 vvt v6 engine, as i have seen people go thru this also online many people were talking about how unrelaible these cars are on that way. i have different quotes from different mechanic shops the lowest been $2,500.
Sitting in the parking lot waiting for my daughter to get out of school all of a sudden it smells hot then start to drive off and traction control lights and abs go wild then i pull over turn off the engine open the hood and there's smoke letting it cool the key won't reverse out of the ignition and there's no power at all
My mechanic said my timing chain is loose & there should be a recall. also my radio goes real low in a high pitch tone & i can't hear it so that means my turn singnals are low & everything else that makes a sound is very low. also my window controls are all starting to not work one by one. i only have 89000 miles on my car. my mechanic is telling me i should get rid of my car but i always thought chevy was a good car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. while driving approximately 60 mph, the engine failed and the power steering became inoperable. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home. the vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who stated that the engine failed. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 9-5438770343. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 150,000. *tt*jb
Driving 75 on freeway with cruise on. car acted like gas pedal was floored shut cruise off seemed fine 10 miles later hear a flapping and engine dies. this was very scary and could have caused major accident but my husband managed to steer us to shoulder. had car towed home as would not start. had mechanic look at it and need new engine $6,300 dollars to fix only 114,000 miles on it and still owe.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. the contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing chain failed. the vehicle was also taken to an independent mechanic who confirmed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. the mechanic provided failure codes p0017 and p0008. the contact stated that the failure codes were related to the crankshaft and the exhaust system failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 88,000.
In jan 2017 timing chain had to be replaced, some work covered by warranty but still cost me 4000 on june 24 while driving home noticed a knocking type sound coming from engine, parked it, next day took it to the mechanic, sound was very loud now, and told the motor needed to be replaced, rod broke, can not afford to fix, and is now a paper weight in my driveway, just finished paying it off, chevy dealer here was useless
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle seized and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. the contact had the vehicle towed by aaa to baierl chevrolet (10430 perry hwy, wexford, pa 15090, (877) 217-0160) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain belt failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was approximately 81,331.
The water pump leaking- only 68,0000 miles
2011 chevy traverse in great condition. engine stared missing and roughly idling occasionally.check engine light came on just short of 119000 miles. auto parts store reported diagnostic code: p008. googled p008 and message boards stated gm has an extended warranty program for this problem. went to the local chevy dealer, asked about the coverage up to 120,000 miles since i was almost up to 120,000 miles. provided the vin & the dealer said that my vehicle does not qualify for repairs under the program & recommended scheduling service to have it fixed at my expense. another option was to take my chances. he advised keeping oil level high & clean to extend possible life of the engine & timing chain. service rep said that he sees this problem on a fairly-regular basis, about 2-4 times per month. a critical failure rate of that for just one dealer is way too high! gm should extend the coverage, especially when this is a known issue! days later i decided i didn't want to re-experience my 2001 saturn timing chain failed at 67,000 miles while driving 70 mph, nearly caused an accident on the freeway. had to replace the engine with a re-manufactured engine for approximately $3,000.00. due to fatalities resulting from the timing chain failures, saturn/gm finally decided to recall the affected vehicles or reimburse for replacement engines. i had replaced the engine at my own expense, so i was later reimbursed ~$2,500.00 by saturn (gm). with this in mind, i scheduled service for my 2011 traverse about a week later at the gm dealer. it required pulling the engine, metal shavings cleaned out of engine, guides, tensioners, and timing chain replaced. cost 2 days labor and parts $2924.87. gm should extend covering diagnosed p008 fault repairs, or at the very least, offer an after-failure reimbursement for repairs/replacement due to faulty/stretched timing chains on their engines.
Service stabilitrak/traction control off light keeps coming on when driving at normal speed
Takata recall, i was driving my car down an interstate and the coolant had leaked out and overheated my car i have done had each hose and housing and the thermostat and the reservoir take replaced in it about 2 months ago. it's is now doing the same thing again it started again while i was on a highway.
The timing chain when out on my 2011 chevy traverse. there are known issues with these vehicles not much older than mine and i am hearing about a lot of issues with the 2011 models as well. i think that this should be looked into. the timing chain went out when i was driving on the highway with my family and that could have turned into a deadly situation. my vehicle was purchased used but has been well maintained. with just over 100k miles and known issues with the timing chains in these vehicles i really think that it should be looked into.
Coming home in driveway, the vehicle just died. local mechanic thought it was a cam shaft sensor, but after looking further it's the timing chain & i need a new engine on 2011 traverse with 93,000 miles. chevy corp said chevy needs to diagnose at $100 an hour. they would have to do a complete engine tear down which could be 10 hours plus the cost of a new engine & they won't guarantee cost assistance. the work has to be done by chevy. the vehicle is sitting in my driveway since march 2019. i'd like for chevy to own up to this problem & fix my vehicle at no cost
2nd owner. at 91k miles whole electrical system blew out. cost $600 to fix. at $111k miles engine light came on. went to dealership and timing chain needed to be replaced. parked the vehicle as dealership said it keeps happening for 2011 traverse and they are waiting for recall. 6 months later decided to take car back to dealership to get fixed quoted $3800. on way to dealership (20 minutes away) going 40 miles an hour car started making machine guns noises and slowing down. pulled into a neighborhood and parked car. called a tow company and had them tow it back to the house. luckily, our neighbor works at a mechanic shop and came over. he turned the car on and it shut right off. after his examination he said my engine had seized and would need to replace it. already having to reset the electrical system now i need to replace a timing chain and replace an engine?? seems after reading all of the complaints the 2011 traverse has major issues and this needs to be addressed!
I have the cel on reading code p0017. the suv is starting to idle a bit rougher and i have garaged the vehicle until i can have it serviced. i contacted the dealership regarding the service bulletin 11340 and referencing bulletin 12-06-01-009d for timing chain and tensioner failure and replacement the service tech stated that although they have issues regarding this engine, the year of my traverse didn't qualify. i then contacted gm. the best they could provide is a case # regarding my complaint and offered to get me the phone # to my nearest dealership. i will have to keep on pressing the issue until the problem is resolved (considering the chevy has 89,000 miles).
**timing belt recall** i was driving my vehicle on the local parkway and it lost power while i was driving it then started riding rough as if the tires were wobbling then i went to make a left turn and it started making a reeving noise during the turn. i had the car towed to the auto shop and i was told there was no oil leaks but the oil was low and also i had to replace the timing chain on my vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. while driving, the vehicle lost power and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact was able to drive the vehicle safely to his residence. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not provide assistance. the approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
My car doesn't even have 120000 miles and the crankshaft is out of it. i get regular oil changes and maintain my car. as i was driving my cheek everyone light came on and my engine made a loud noise
Reduced power on vechile with dash lights indicating check stabile track. see a lot of complaints on this. happened 3 times finally had to replace throttle body and harness for $550. no recalls? 110,000 miles. very dangerous to have car slow down on highway during winter conditions.
While driving my 2011 chevy traverse lt on highway with 130,000 miles on it when my traverse lost acceleration and stalled out with cars flying up on me at 65-70 mph,i finally costed over to the emergency lane, had it towed to dealership and techs couldn't figure this out , after a week of service techs couldn't find the problem, i was finally notified by dealership that there's something wrong with motor and electrical and it's not worth fixing. i would like to know what i can do with this .
Was driving on the freeway when a i heard a bang noise from the engine. engine completely died, no warning signs nothing. mechanic looked at it, the engine locked and told me it was the timing belt and it gave out, and i need to replace the engine completely. looked online there has been similar cases and gm is doing nothing about it. now i'm looking at $7,880 to get the car running. the value of the car is over 8k mechanic said its a total lost because its about what the car is valued. very disappointing, have had a lot of trouble with this car.
At 116,000 miles the timing chain is breaking/stretching which will cause the engine to stop operating while in motion.
Bad timing chain and had to get it repaired at just over 100,000 when warantee expired
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. without warning, the timing chain fractured and the vehicle was unable to be driven. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. the dealer (garber buick gmc, 5255 us-1, fort pierce, fl 34982, (772) 467-0835) was notified of the failure and stated that there was no recall or diagnostic trouble code to provide a remedy. the vehicle was excluded from the timing chain extended warranty campaign. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the approximate failure mileage was 93,000.
'timing chain'. recently engine light appears on and goes off while driving my 2011 chevy traverse lt 3.6l with almost 113,000 miles. i used my scanner and codes p0008 and p0017 appeared. after doing my research i discovered that, 1. the codes are for the engine timing chain. 2. tons of customers that own the same make, model and year as mine along with many different gm model vehicles that have the 3.6 l engine, are having the same code and engine problem. 3. gm knows about this issue since they have extended the warranty up to 120,000 miles on some of the 2011 chevy traverse's and other gm makes and models. gm advised me that my vin is not covered and i should bring my vehicle to the closest gm dealer to have them diagnose the problem. i brought my vehicle to adams chevrolet located in havre de grace, maryland on 01/10/19. adams chevrolet tech stats: found codes p0008 and 0017. found timing is not in sync due to faulty timing chains. stated customer declined repairs at this time. customer would need to replace timing chains and actuators. i contacted gm a second time a few days after i brought my vehicle to adams chevrolet, the gm employee stated that she will note everything and has my current address and phone number on file if they need to get ahold of me. she stated again my vin is not covered and that i should keep in touch with a customer service employee from a gm dealership and see if they will work with me on a price at my expense. i have had an issue with the power steering while driving in 2018 and adams chevrolet recently advised me that there is an extended warranty on the power steering as well but timing chain is not covered on my vin. my 2011 chevrolet traverse timing chain and /or issues related to that problem needs rplaced for free or i will gracefully accept a new vehicle from gm for free and you can have my traverse back. respectfully, dylan
Stabilitrack needs serviced , abs light on , traction control failure . power loss . just driving through town approximately 30 mph and all errors started flashing . this is a safety concern . i have read multiple complaints on the same issue with no results
Driving, smelled coolant and heard fan running. temp gauge was slightly elevated, not in the red. topped off coolant and took to mechanic. he said i couldn't have checked radiator because it has a cover over the engline.water pump and blown head gasket, estimate $3600-$5000. it's been sitting 3 months because i can't afford to fix it. i have 3 disabled children, and can't get them to dr appts because my other car is 18 years old and too small.
I was driving and the car shut off on me took it to the dealer and they said the engine is lock because of no oil and check the oil and i do oil change every 3000 miles the was no oil on the ground and no low oil warning on the dash board
While the vehicle is stationary or being driven the traction control turns off, the stabilizer goes out, and the engine power reduces. i was on the highway and i lost power going from 65 mph down to 25-30 mph. i had to pull over and shut off the car, waited for 15 minutes and started driving again. i hadn't gone far and all the warnings came up again and power was reduced. while driving in town the same thing happens and i can be going 25 mph and the power goes down to 10 mph. warning lights say traction 'control off, stabilizer off, engine power reduced. all of this happens while the vehicle is stationary or being driven!!!
I was driving on the highway and the vehicle shut off while i was driving at 70 mph. lost power steering and brakes out of no where which is when i noticed the rpms was at 0. after we, by the grace of god, made it to the side of the road safely, we had it towed to a garage where the said the timing chain came off and ruined the engine and that it is a common problem and could be fixed for around $5600. the vehicle has 65k miles and blew up? its a common problem for a vehicle to shut off on the highway and i wasn't warned that this vehicle has this kind of history and gm don't recognize this is a problem!
While the vehicle was crossing a the i-395 bridge into washington dc at 45 mph, the engine suddenly failed taking out the power steering with a jerk to the left. this failure was not precipitated by an engine warning light or a change to the ride and feel of the vehicle.
I was driving on a highway and my car lost power, it showed "traction control off" and then "service stabilatrack" i was able to coast off the side of the road and the engine shut off and it will not restart. had to have it towed to a repair shop and waiting to hesr from them.
Another 2011 traverse with a timing chain failure at 82k miles. driving ho e from work on a busy route and without warning the engine started making horrendous noises and lost power almost causing us to be rear ended. had car towed to local mechanic who determined it was the timing chain. have open case with gm (8-4399513745) but too date nothing but run around. vin is not in parameters for extended warranty. how many traverses need to fail before gm takes ownership of their gross manufacturing defect and makes their customers whole again - this should be recalled and a class action suit filed. this happened 2 months after replacing water pump, alternator , battery and crank shaft sensor after sudden power loss. someone needs to hold gm responsible. they are blaming the consumer in every case and refuse to correct their mistake. how many more will it take before someone steps in and makes gm do the right thing? in the meantime another chevy customer leaving the ranks. i will let everyone who's anyone know the true gm customer service and commitment or should i say lack there of.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle shook and stalled. also, the low power mode warning indicator illuminated. the contact called an independent mechanic and was referred to the dealer. the local dealer (macmulkin chevrolet, 3 marmon dr., nashua, nh 03060, (603) 821-0370) stated that they there were unaware of a failure with the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the failure mileage was 140,000.
Without warning, i get an alert on my information panel that stabilitrak is off and traction control needs servicing. at the same time, the vehicle downshifts hard and rapidly decelerates. several months ago, the check engine light started coming on at random times resulting in an emission error code. the catalytic converter was replaced. a month later, same error code. this current problem happens frequently at various speeds while in motion only.
I got my car 6 months ago, so far the brakes went out, rotors went out, all struts had to be reolaced, heater broke, air conditioner leakes, and now timing chains need to be replaved. i found an inspection completed 2 weeks before i bought my car done at another dealership. the list of issues is scary.
My vehicle has tie rod loose, leaky motor rack, rear valve cover leak, brakes and rotors loose, control arm loose, all wheels corroded, front strut leaks.
While driving down the interstate i attempted to pass a vehicle at 70 mph when suddenly the vehicle lost all power. i was not able to get to the right lane so i had no choice but to pull off to the left where i was being passed by vehicles going 70 plus mph next to a cement barrier. the vehicle wouldn't restart or give any indication of doing so. after having it towed to the local chevy dealer i was told that the timing chain busted and seized up the engine. i contacted chevy and they stated since the vehicle has 129400 moles on it there was nothing they could do about it because it was out of warranty. they stated they had no complaints of this being a problem but that contradicts what multiple chevy dealers have told me. the engine in the 2011 chevy traverse is apparently known to have this problem so the engines are hard to find. upon further research i found multiple sites where customers have also stated the same problem. this vehicle seats 7 passengers. while i was alone on this particular date it is not always the case. i could have had my family with and may not have been able to pull to safety (as scarry as it was being stranded on a four lane interstate). chevy fails to acknowledge that this is not only a mechanical issue but also a huge safety concern. this is not a two seater economy vehicle but a 7 seater family vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact coasted the vehicle over to the shoulder and it would not restart. the vehicle was towed to phillips chevrolet (1400 locke dr, bourbonnais, il 60914) where it was diagnosed that the engine seized and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact also mentioned that the vehicle was repaired by the same dealer approximately one year ago for engine failures. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 103,000.
Check engine light came on about a month later took the vehicle to a local mechanic and was told the engine was blown. 3 cylinders were checked and had low compression and was told it could have caused the motor to stall while driving and to not drive it any more due to the dangerous condition this could cause. never received any indication there was a catastrophic issue with the motor, never received low oil or high temp nothing?
Purchased new and at 63,500 miles the engine malfunctioned. started missing/hesitating on highway heading 2 hours away for a wedding. dealer wants over $7k to repair cracked piston/valve in cylinder 4. according to chevy/gm customer assistance (opened case #8-4134087852), dealer told them it had low oil, which is incorrect because my husband always checks the oil, even at the gas station while filling up and is meticulous with maintenance. we have the receipts and maintenance log to prove it. also, low oil would cause bearing problems, which we don't have. gm offering some sort of goofy assistance that is backwards and will cost us even more. thoroughly disgusted with my traverse, which was supposed to eventually replace my 2000 gmc safari van, which is very much alive with original trans and engine at over 165k miles. i see lots of internal damage/engine issues - why no recall? i wonder who they paid off to avoid this financial nightmare...
2011 traverse only 67000 miles on it but experience engine error code p0008 and p0017 which indicates something wrong with timing chain. 2009 model of traverse has the same problem and is covered under extended warranty by gm. but 2011 model is not covered, and will cost $3000 to fix and repaire
My traverse started at the beginning of winter randomly having the engine light come on then the vehicle would ding and i would get a message of "service traction control" then "service stabilitrack" and then it would ding again and i would get the message "reduced engine power" after a couple months this happened every time i started the car and was finally able to take it in to have the code read. turns out the throttle body was shot. gm replaced this under an extended warranty. well upon picking my vechel up i was told the rear o2 sensor was shot, they wanted to charge me $250 to replace it, i opted out and my husband, an on the side mechanic, fixed it for a total of $30. service light still on after new o2 sensor. my vehicle was also making a weird sound at this time which i described to my husband as a grinding. they hooked it up to the computer again and said that they gave me the wrong info last time that it was the front o2 sensor that was bad but that was the only code. so i ordered another o2 sensor for my husband to fix... 2 days later my service engine light started flashing at me. i immediately pulled over and shut my vehicle off. i called the local dealership to again ask if another code was thrown, was told no... drove my vehicle home and my husband drove it. he knew it was the timing chain. he called the local dealership once more and they quoted us at $2500 to replace as the entire motor has to come out. he called to a different dealership 40 miles away and it was $1900 to fix. i got on the phone with gm and wanted to know if there was any recalls as this is a very common problem and at this time there are not so they didn't cover any of the cost!!! i have a cousin who also has a 2011 traverse and it is currently sitting at the shop with the exact same problem, however hers also needs the catalytic converter replaced!!
While driving the car is just died and everything locked up and almost rain into a curb with kids in the car. check engine light was on and had the code p008 and car diagonosed with timing chain issues and needs to be replaced.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet traverse. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle misfired and stalled without warning. additionally, there was an abnormal winding noise. the vehicle was towed to the local dealer (legacy chevrolet, 13307 us hwy 25e, corbin, ky 40701) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain and valves needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and opened case number: 8-3858409715. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
