I started my car and it felt weird and made a strange noise. an error message cande on saying 'steering assist is reduced, drive with care. i drove a few blocks and the message remained on until i returned to my home. my backseat reminder alarm also does not work anymore. my car is a 2018 chevy traverse
My 2014 chevy traverse has been having this issue for months now. i will be driving and my service stabilitrak, traction control off, check engine light will light up, and engine power reduced will pop up. i can not go over 20 mph. at times the engine will become very stally, jerky, my steering wheel and brakes will be very hard to use. these are very random and non patterned i will have to safely pull over rather it be on a back road or a highway wherever it happens turn the engine off for 5-20 minutes and it will eventually clear everything but the check engine light; which will clear within that day or the next until the next time it happens. it has also cause my key to lock up in the ignition. this is very unsafe and scary. this is my family car and will eventually cause an accident and hurt myself, my kids, or someone else. if you google the issue there are tons of forums, websites, blogs that have the same issue with this car. i have spent numerous hours investigating the issue, lots of money replacing parts as recommended or by the check ...

When turning at speed - you can feel noticeable play/lag as your holding the steering wheel. at slower speed, the wheel becomes slightly heavier to turn but reverts back at turn from complete stop - wheel return to center is extremely delayed if none at all requiring you to bring it back to center. when parking - almost if not total loss of powers steering.
12/23/19 while driving my car it began making slight whine noises which increased during turning, tires seemed a bit loose with driving, then when parking it was as if no power steering at all- checked ps fluid tiny bit low, added small amount. 12/24/19 same problem still occurring only extremely more difficult to turn, 12/26/19 had car checked by mechanic our power steering pump has gone out at 81k miles and in all probability our rack and pinion, this is a known issue for traverses, there has been a special service coverage extension ( https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2014/sb-10056459-3388.pdf) thru 100k mikes for traverses 2009-2011, though when i spoke to representative she said 2007 - 2011 years, and the parts that need replacing are the exact same part numbers thru 2015 traverses. the 'reason' i was given is because 'it is for vehicles produced in 'specific- undisclosable locations' which are in 'specific years and vin numbers' and yet the part is the exact same part that is being utilized in the entire span of at least the years '2009-2015'. this is a huge safety concern as well since it causes problems with your steering as well as tire functionality. why are ...
Today i started to develop a whining noise and the steering has started to become increasingly harder to turn in the past week. it is hard to turn at low speeds. there have been various times where i have been unable to maneuver the vehicle when trying to park due to the steering becoming very stiff. i've also had a close call getting into an accident while making a u-turn due to the steering being nearly impossible to turn today. this is very unsafe. i was try to turn left into a parking drive way with oncoming traffic and cars behind me. luckily they stopped. i couldnt make the turn at once. the wheel was too tight and i didnt have the strength to turn the wheel enough to the left to complete the turn. i had to go back and try again. i hit the sidewalk curb. and to go back and forth to get the car in a position enough to turn into the drive. i had a car shop check to power steering fluis and there was enough. they advised i come back because they were going to close so they could check further under the ...
I purchased a 2016 chevy traverse lt new from the dealer. it has approx. 80k miles that are mostly "highway miles". i brought my traverse into the dealer on 12-9-19 for a brake service and ask that they check the power steering which has been making "winding" noises during various turning radiuses. i was informed by the dealership of a tsb regarding the powering steering pump/line. apparently due to a design flaw by gm, the power steering hose and a/c touch and during the normal operation of the vehicle, rub each other. this is known to produce a hole in the power steering line causing the power steering fluid to leak. this has the potential to cause the power steering pump to fail. because of the design flaw, simply replacing the hose won't ultimately fix the issue. furthermore. if the power steering pump fails while a driver is making steering inputs, it creates a high probably that a crash can occur resulting in serious bodily harm or death to the driver and others. i spoke to gm corp customer service on 12-9-19 and was told, they do not show to have a fix and because there is no recall ...
After some major maintenance work summer of 2018, car began to show more work needed. summer of 2019 while driving on flat city road, power steering became difficult to turn & control curves and, check engine light came on. parked the car until able to repair. mechanic repaired power steering module car seemed ok. after about 2-3 weeks, check engine light & power steering problems again , now engine power reduced while driving w/stabilitrak warning & back up cam sometimes works. whle driving , hard to turn on curves, corners and at appropriate posted speeds bc engine slows on its own and wont give enough power for flats or hills. heating takes much longer to warm cabin and window button sometimes wont work.
While driving at 45mph the vehicle completely shut off, the gauge cluster went crazy stating "stabilytrack" "reduced engine power" check engine came on and notices temp.guage also went up from 210 to 215 slighty when i put in park and restarted vehicle restarted with no problem i drove to mechanic shop with no issue 4 miles away and when i arrived to shop i turned vehicle off and when mechanic returned to check engine error none was found or recorded this is the secon time it happens?
The steering on my traverse intermittently stops working, there does not seem to be any pattern and when it stops working the car is practically undriveable and i've almost gotten into accidents three different times. most of the time it happens when driving, however, when stopped it happens as well.
