Problems with 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

On average, the 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE and its various aspects after 61 503 miles.

Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Due to a mechanical failure, i had to have the fuel sensor replaced in my 2006 chevrolet trailblazer right after the warranty expired. the sensor was replaced and seemed to function properly until i was stranded on the side of the road a few months ago with my young child. the gas gauge was again giving false readings and my vehicle had run out of fuel. as it stands now, i will have replace the equipment for the second time in a vehicle that is only four years old. after my experience of suddenly having no fuel, i can certainly say it creates a dangerous situation while driving. if there had been more traffic in my vicinity, i don't know that i would have been as fortunate as i was. *tr

I own a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer that has a fuel gauge issue. while on the highway a couple of weeks ago my engine stalled with the fuel gauge reading one quarter of a tank. come to find out i was out of fuel. currently the fuel gauge constantly reads empty with the fuel light on even after filling the tank. i believe the inability to correctly know how much fuel i have is quite a safety issue. after much research i have found this is a problem with many of the 2006 trailblazers. *tr

Filled with premium fuel, started, check engine light on and fuel gauge shows empty. gauge will work from time to time but check engine light doesn't go out. *tr

Gas gauge failure. manufacturer has no recall for failure. cost to repair $800 to $1000 dollars. *tr

The gas gauge on my 2006 chevrolet trailblazer is no longer working. this problem has also caused my check engine light to stay on and the low fuel warning signal to go off repeatedly even when there is plenty of gas. *tr

2006 chevy trailblazer - bought at 11,000 miles in march 2007. now, at 46,000 miles, just after warranty expired, i have fuel gauge failure; automatic transmission problems; 4wd problems. *tr

Bad fuel level sensor makes the gas gauge show empty upon filling the tank until the fuel level in the tank falls to a sufficient level to cause the gauge to display erratic and false readings. nothing has been done to correct the failure which continues to be a constant problem. fuel level now must be estimated through the use of the trip odometer. *tr

Fuel gauge inoperatable. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact noticed that the fuel tank was empty and the fuel gauge was not providing an accurate reading. the fuel gauge eventually failed completely and the reading remained on empty. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics where the dealer advised that the fuel system sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa action number: dp10001 (fuel system, other:storage:fuel gauge system) which was an investigation that could possibly have been related to the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 37,000.

I own a 2006 chevy trailblazer. my fuel tank level sensor is not working in the vehicle. my gas gauge now always reads empty even after filling the vehicle up. this happened right after my warranty expired. i am being told they have to take the whole gas tank out to fix the problem. since i am not able to afford that fix i have been doing research on the subject, it turns out there are a ton of folks with this vehicle experiencing the same issue. recently, due to this problem my car stalled out in the middle of me driving through a green light. i was able to pull over to the shoulder off the road. but if i had been in a busy intersection, it most likely would have ended in an accident. *tr

Fuel gauge will not work when under 1/2 full tank. when you fill up with gas. gauge reads empty and will not start working until tank is half full. *tr

First of all my fuel lever sensor went out. i only figured it out when i was in a busy shopping intersection and my vehicle just shut down. lucky for me no car rear ended me but one did come close. at the time as far i knew my car had over half a tank of gas in it. come to find out late it didn't. to my embarrassment i slowed and stopped traffic for close to an hour while i called for help and had to be towed. my mechanic explained the problem (the fuel level sensor) and gave me two options get the part replace or keep track of the mileage and gas i put in daily, because of the cost to replace the part plus labor i decided to keep track of the mileage instead of having it replaced. now i'm having a whole other issue i am only able to pump $10 of gas at a time because now my fuel pump went out also. when i pump gas my car thinks that it has gas when it doesn't. now i have no option but the get my car repaired for both issues of which i am doing this week. this is seriously ridiculous. i should not be having these issues with this new of a car. hopefully something is done about this issue. *tr

2006 chevrolet trailblazer with 12000 miles has inoperative gasoline gauge. always reads zero. can't pass smog test. common problem since 2005. *tr

2006 chevrolet trailblazer ls suddenly has non operational fuel gauge. after filling up the vehicle with gas(the gauge was reading at about 1/4 full a time of fueling) upon restarting the empty fuel light has come on. the gauge itself then dropped below the 1/4 full tank previous reading all the way to zero. this is the first time this has happened. but after coming home and reading online complaints this a shockingly common occurrence with this model gm vehicle(and not just a temporary glitch, one that never goes away after it happens, but a gas gauge that from then on always reads empty). a non operational system for fuel level is a considerable safety hazard. it is the only thing to accurately measure the energy that remains to run the car. *tr

Gas gauge on 2006 chevrolet trailblazer when started shows correct fuel level. after several miles of driving gauge drops to zero and warning light and chime is activated. gauge shows correctly each time engine is started. dealer said many complaints of this type, but not covered by warranty. it is a bad sending unit in the fuel pump. gas tank needs to be dropped and parts replaced at a cost of $800.00. *tr

While driving at night, the low beam headlights stopped working without notice. stopped at next convenience store, checked all fuses and all were good. started ignition and lights still did not work. checked high beam headlights and they worked. followed up with mechanic the following morning. could not diagnose problem and referred to a local dealer. dealer diagnosed problem as being a faulty bcm. bcm was replaced. approx. 8 weeks later, same problem w/low beam lights not working. dealer replaced relay. now low beams work, check engine light has come on and fuel gauge has stopped working. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge failed. the fuel gauge was displaying a reading of empty when the vehicle was filled with fuel. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic shop who advised that the fuel gauge needed to be replaced at a cost of $1200. the dealer was not contacted and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 91,000.

Fuel gauge registers empty even when tank is full. *tr

2006 chevrolet trailblazer fuel gauge not working properly, while driving the needle from the fuel gauge drops to empty and slowly returns back show the correct amount fuel in the vehicle. read online that this is a common problem with the trailblazers and cost is about $500.00 for repairs, sensor in the fuel tank needs replaced unable to take vehicle on any trips and have to keep an eye on how much fuel is in the tank by checking the trip odometer. *tr

After filling up my gas tank, we headed down the road. a dinging started so i looked down to see that my gas gauge was reading e. after researching this vehicle i found out that if i set my trip to not go over 200 miles before filling the gas tank, due to the gauge always reads e. after a while my check engine light came on. i went to auto zone and had them hook it up to find out that it was the sending unit that was reading bad. we have e-check in our state. my vehicle failed because my check engine light was on. i now have to spend at least 300.00 to get this fixed so that my vehicle will pass e-check so that i can get the tags that i need to drive the vehicle. this has been a big issue and disappointment for us. *tr

The fuel sending unit on my trailbalzer has failed and i have run out of gas several times causing dangerous situations. i have had to call aaa several times. the repair job will cost about $800 and i cannot afford to do it. the gas tank must be pulled down and the entire fuel pump/sending unit must be replaced by a mechanic. it is a dangerous job. i think general motors should issue a recall and repair free to the owners i know of several others running with the same condition. it will not pass new york state inspection with this condition...thank you.

Gas gauge issue fuel sending unit issue with 2006 trailblazer. *tr

Fuel level sensor quit working so that gas tank always showed empty. an exhaustive internet search turned up a lot of other people with the same problem. tried to get chevy to replace under warranty as a known failure but they would not. finally paid a dealer to fix it. this is a well known problem to chevy that they failed to recall or fix.

Fuel gauge in 2006 chevy trailblazer went out while driving home from work on highway. was stranded on highway until help arrived with fuel to refill vehicle. now fuel gauge in trailblazer shows empty at all times even after a fill up. nothing has been done to correct the failure due to car just being out of warranty and high price of fix. currently have to guess on fuel levels by keeping track of mileage. *kb

In may 2010, my 2006 chevrolet trailblazer began having problems with the fuel gauge. the check engine light kept coming on and off. when i took it to a mechanic, he said it would be about $800-$1,000 to fix. of course this is an extreme expense considering that i am a teacher and clearly do not make enough money to be able to pay for such a repair. i was told if i keep it on the trip and just get gas before 275 miles, i should be ok. the check engine light continued to come on and off...the fuel gauge always reads empty. now, a year later i am still battling this, but now the check engine light stays on all of the time! i'm reading online and seeing that many other people are also having this same problem with their 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. why hasn't gm recalled this so that people will actually feel safe when they are driving their 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. this is very serious. from what i am reading, everyone has the problem when their warranty is expired. no one is buying ht extended warranty because until then, there are not any real problems with the 2006 trailblazer. when will gm recall this and fix it for their customers? *tr

I have a 2006 chevy trailblazer. the fuel gauge gives empty reading most of the time and will then show a high fuel level reading. i have 105000 miles on it. the fuel level reading can not be trusted. this started after filling the fuel tank on time. it was not overfilled. *tr

Spring of 2010, i encountered an erratic malfuncting fuel gas. i actually ran out of gas just once! gauge would show full, empty, fuel light on, gauge moving up and down. some days it worked fine. i finally had the "fuel pump assy / sender unit" replaced at a cost of $762. that fixed the problem. not happy!

Fuel sending unit began sending intermittent false readings, resulting in running out of gas mid-intersection, while on freeways where the loss of speed might result in an obstruction of traffic, in mid-acceleration where the loss of acceleration might result in an immediate danger to the occupants and surrounding vehicles, or while driving while gauge indicator indicated the availability of fuel within the system to perform combustion. *tr

Fuel sensor died on 2006 chevy trailblazer. *tr

I own a 2006 chevy trailblazer and the gas gauge has stopped working. apparently chevy is aware of this and it seems to be happening to a lot of vehicles in 2005-2006 years. at the dealership they told me they have repaired many and it would cost about $800. if they know the sensor goes bad and have repaired it several times - is it not a valid recall problem? if you google the problem you can see how many people are having the same problem. i am going to watch the mileage for now and do fill ups as needed by mileage. i am not in a position to put out that kind of money for a well recognized problem. i travel the country by vehicle and need to have a dependable vehicle. i purchased this vehicle 5 months ago and of course it started right after my warranty was through. of course, i called the dealership and that is when they informed that it happens quite frequently and that the gas tank has to be dropped and the sensor replaced - timely and costly. *tr

Gas gauge shows on empty even when full on a 2006 trail blazer took to dealer would not fix couse warranty has expired only have 37,000 miles. ran out of gas in freeway almost got hit trying to pull to the right shoulder. *tr

I have a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer ls. the gas gauge stopped working over a year ago. after checking with the chevrolet dealer, this seems to be a common, well known problem. gm needs to recall these vehicles and fix this problem. *kb

Gas gauge does not read gas levels correctly. when full, gauge shows at empty and levels off after approx 20-40 miles after driving. thereafter, gauge randomly goes up and down. *tr

I purchased a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer back in oct 2009, within the past 3 months i have now have had problems with the fuel lever sensor. my gas gauge will remain on empty even after i fill up the tank and causes the engine light to stay on. i have researched online and found that it is a very common problem with my vehicle however no recall has been issued. i have two small children who are in my car most of the time. i am very afraid that i will run out of gas and stall on the freeway. this can cause a huge accident if i stall in the middle of the freeway going 65 mph. i have been tracking the mileage on my own but it is very hard to be accurate as to how much gas is really left. *tr

Fuel level sending unit on 2006 chevy trailblazer ls with 6 cylinder. gauge fluctuation started with about 1/4 tank of fuel, would show empty with low fuel light illuminating then up to about 3/4 then to 1/4, you get the idea!!! *tr

Gas gauge reads empty, even after i fill it up. cause me to run out gas twice, in the middle of the road!!

The gas gauge on my 2006 chevy trailblazer read incorrectly. the problem just started happening. the car was being driven like normal and no work had been done on the car. the problem is still occuring because i don't have the $800 dollars i was told it would take to fix the problem other probem was noticed in december of 2010. the heater stopped working. prior to the heater stop working the blower stopped working on 5 then stopped working on 4 then it just completly stopped working. i pulled the blower motor resistor out of the carr and noticed that the connector to the blower motor resistor pack was melted to the connector. i removed some of the melted plastic and tried the heater again and one of the wires was glowing orange when the heater was running. i replaced the blower motor resistor and melted connector. on april 22, 2011 speed 5 on the blower stopped working. i pulled the blower motor resistor on april 27 2010. i noticed the same problem was starting to occur again. the two of the wires leading into the blower motor resistor were melted together. this car is not diven very far, putting less than 5,000 miles a year on it. is the melting wires a problem that i should worry about? is this car safe to let my wife drive with the kids in the back? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer ls. the contact stated that while adding gasoline to the vehicle, the fuel level indicator would not move from the empty position. in addition, the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the contact stated the fuel level indicator continued to read inaccurate fuel levels. the approximate failure mileage was 29,871 and the current mileage was 30,500.

2006 trailblazer lt, purchased gm certified used, 32,000miles, at 39,000 i filled the gas tank, restarted my car and the gauge read e which continued until it finally got to 3/4. this was not continuous driving. ok until i filled it again and i experienced the same thing, called to make an appointment and was told they could find nothing and bring it in the next time it happens which i plan to do. for now i write down the mileage. my fear will this problem of registering wrong make my car think it's out of gas on the highway and stop in traffic!! *tr

Chevrolet trailblazer gas gauge failure. fuel sending unit needs replaced, cost ~$800 with labor. gauge randomly goes from full to empty, and seems to be a common issue. *tr

Just like others my 2006 trailblazers fuel gauge reads empty at all times. i am told it is the fuel level indicator and will cost about $450 to fix. there should be a recall on this! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel level gauge would continuously read inaccurate fuel levels. on one occasion, the contact ran out of gasoline ,yet the fuel level gauge did not display that the fuel tank was empty. in addition, when the vehicle was out of gasoline, the horn would not operate. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the fuel sending unit would need replacing. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 42,000 and the current mileage was 51,000. updated 11/11/10 *bf updated 11/18/10

This is in addition to the current investigation regarding the 2006 chevy trailblazer fuel system. on a daily basis my fuel gauge moves from full to empty and back and anywhere inbetween. i have to keep track of the miles driven so i have an idea when the tank needs to be refueled. gm wants upwards of $1,000 to fix their error and from what i have read on websites such as topix.com, it seems that an overwhelming number of people are having this same problem, dating back to 2008. *tr

Fuel gauge indicates empty and fuel level light illuminates with fuel tank full. gauge becomes erratic as vehicle is driven. condition appears to be intermittent and so far self corrects after fuel settles in tank over night. *tr

Fuel gauge not working, gm dealer wants over $600 to fix. *tr

2006 chevrolet trailblazer ls 4wd: fuel level sensor failure. thousands of online complaints w/ years ranging from 2000 - 2006. $800-$1100 for repair. no warranty coverage past 36k miles dealership mechanics are aware of malfunction and say oem part is "junk". personal incident began @ appx 55k miles. sensor is inside fuel tank. possible fire hazard? should be recalled. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet trailblazer. the driver added fuel to the tank; however, the gas gauge indicated that it was empty. the driver turned the vehicle off and back on to see if the gauge would reset; to no avail. the following day the gas gauge did indicate that the fuel tank was full; yet, while driving approximately 25 mph, the gauge slowly began to move up and down but never indicating that the tank was full. since the fuel gage has malfunctioned, the contact is unsure of how much fuel was in the tank. the engine shut off a month ago because the fuel tank was empty and the fuel gauge did not indicate that. the driver did contact a mechanic who stated that they needed to replace the fuel pump. a mechanic stated that the failure was common for trailblazers and the it would cost between $400-$750 to repair the vehicle. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 81,000.

Fuel gauge on 2006 trailblazer has completely stopped working. *tr

At around 50,000 mi on odometer, while i was driving in winter weather on a highway my gas gauge suddenly dropped to empty and the chime went off and the car acted like it was going to stall on what is normally a busy highway.i had filled up my tank before i'd left for my trip so i knew that i couldn't be out of gas.. by the time i got to my destination the gauge went back to full, but on the return home again the gauge continued to act up. a mechanic friend told me it was probably the float in the tank and to use the trip odometer. after a few more trips the gauge was acting normal again, but when i filled up it started the same thing. it is now stuck on empty and my engine light remains on and i've had a few stalls due to this. i never know how much gas i really have and if my car stalls or runs out of gas i am in danger of having or causing an accident. *tr

Dear sir/madam, for several days i do have a problem with the fuel gauge indicator of my chevorlet trailblazer 2006. the indicator shows full after a gas station stop and within less than 5 minutes it indicates empty. sometimes it bounces up and down and then it gets stuck at empty. in the meantime the check engine light is on permanently. this is a very frustrating situation since i travel a lot for business and private with my car. i never know when sufficient gasoline is in the tank and consider this situation dangerous, the engine could stop any moment and lead to an accident. i did some research and i found several complaints from other chevrolet trailblazer 2006 owners all over the internet. it looks like a common problem with this model. i would like to request a comment from nhtsa and gm regarding this problem and would suggest that gm might consider a recall for the chevy trailblazer to replace the fuel gauge indicator. talked to gm customer service several times. the cost estimate for the repair service is 350 - 400 $. my local chevy dealer told me that the fuel sensor needs to be replaced. cost for the part is 122 $ without taxes. plus labor cost. the service advisor told me that several chevy trailblazer owners in the had the same problem with their cars. the conclusion is: the fuel sensor/gauge cannot handle the gasoline quality that is sold in the us. they blame certain additives in the gasoline to cause corrosion on that particular part. question: did gm change the material for the fuel sensor/gauge in the meantime, so that the part will not break again? from my point of view and many other trailblazer owners: this specific car part is defective and should be replaced via a recall. i ran once out of gasoline, on a busy us route in pa. *tr
