We have classified the 427 complaints from 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
First the gas gauge stopped working. it always stays on empty even though i have a full tank. then the check engine light started coming on randomly. finally the speedometer stopped working. it will read 70mph even though i am stopped. there is a problem with the instrument cluster and clearly needs to be recalled due to the number of complaints filed. *tr
I bought a 2005 chevy trailblazer in march 2010 and have had multiple problems since then. my check engine light came on while i was driving and the ac stopped working, it was diagnosed as the ac fan blower. i replaced the blower but that didn't fix the problem. i then replaced the resistor and the harness. finally when i replaced the harness the ac started working again. the next problem is with the gauges. my fuel level gauge is erratic and never tells me the right fuel level and the cruise control randomly stops working. it has stalled numerous times because the fuel gauge is reading wrong. i'm afraid someone might hit me and my family. i've invested hundreds of dollars for problems that gm needs to take responsibility for!! *tr
Speedometer began sticking at certain speeds and eventually just stopped working all together. it stays at 0 mph all the time now. i even received a speeding ticket in feb 2010 because of this problem. *tr
Speedometer suddenly quit. and will not read over 25 mph. luckily cruise was set so i know my speed. odometer still counts correctly. estimates for replacement of instrument cluster are %500 and up. this is a known safety issue with over 1000 complaints. *tr
Speedometer read that i was going 85mph, i was in a 35mph speed zone going with the flow of traffic.the speedometer ran counter clock wise then clock wise. after that episode the speedometer quit working all to together. failure occurred 62,000 miles. in cold weather the headlights flicker. also my fuel gauge stopped working, reads empty all the time. *tr
Speedometer stops working , very erratic behavior. will work for few minutes at a time. *tr
2005 trailblazer alternator voltage dips alot as you drive. radio does not work unless it is 100deg, then only one speaker works. gas gauge reads empty after i filled up. ignition is very hard to turn, you have to keep inserting and removing key until it frees itself. *tr
I just bought a 2005 chevy trailblazer ls. speedometer is going haywire. needle points straight down and slowly ticks backwards. when im stopped it normally shows im going 60 mph and when driving it goes into the 100's and then way passed the 120 mph mark. also my oil pressure gauge needle is way passed full and is almost facing straight down. apparently there's been a ton of people with this exact problem and it should be a recall but apparently gm won't do anything about it. *tr
My 2005 chevy trailblazer ls (68,000 mi) speedometer goes out of control. told instrument cluster needed replacing. less than a year ago fuel gauge was messed up and had to replace tank sensor. *tr
The speedometer on my 2005 chevy trailblazer malfunctioned saying i was going faster than i really was. this has happened 3 times; the first time on january 28th 2010, and twice on the night of february 4th 2010. it appears to be getting worse each time. the speedometer will increase during acceleration and not move for deceleration. with each deceleration and subsequent acceleration the speedometer continues to increase until you hit max speed of 120 mph. this is a large danger for frequent freeway/highway traveling considering the vehicles approaching from the rear and i have no way of knowing how fast my vehicle is really going. the only way that i have found to reset the speedometer, is to stop and shut off the vehicle, then restart the vehicle. however, this must be done multiple times, sometimes up to 10 times or more. each time the vehicle is shut off and restarted, the speedometer will reset approximately 5 mph. this evening i had to restart my truck 12 times to get it back to zero. the first time this happened, a friend was driving for me, and this malfunction has resulted in a speeding ticket. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that one year ago the speedometer failed which made it impossible for her to determine the speed she was driving. the fuel gauge was also displaying the incorrect reading, and the fuel light remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who performed a diagnostic test for the fuel failure which indicated that the fuel sending sensor was defective. the local mechanic did not perform a diagnostic test for the speedometer. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer filed report 71-930473192. the failure mileage was 10,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that none of the temperature gauges on the instrumental panel were working which made it impossible to determine how much oil or fuel was in the vehicle. he was also unable to determine the temperature of the vehicle. the vehicle was not inspected by the dealer nor was it repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
2005 chevy trailblazer gas gauge and speedometer both stopped working. *tr
I own a 2005 chevy trailblazer. on highway 61 near troy, mo, there is a speed radar set along the road to display vehicle speed to drivers. on 2 occasions, my speedometer showed speeds of 60 mph when the radar display showed 40 to 45 mph and on 3 occasions, my speedometer indicated speeds of 60 (the speed limit), while the radar displayed speeds anywhere from 75 to 85 mph. i was going 15 to 25 mph faster than the speed limit, but did not know it according to my speedometer. this does not happen all the time, but has occurred at least 6 or 7 times over the past year at different locations. i have found that when i stop the trailblazer, when the speedometer is registering low, the speedometer needle will actually move below the 0 mph. on those occasions when my speedometer was registering high, when i have stopped the vehicle, the needle will still be showing 25 to 40 mph! my fear is that on one of those occasions that my speed is actually faster than indicated, my speed my cause an accident. i have found that after stopping the car and turning it off, if i just turn the ignition key to run without starting it several times, the needle will gradually reset itself back to 0 and i won't have any more problems for a while. i have had an estimate to replace the instrument cluster for $500 to $600, but i feel this is a recall problem that chevrolet needs to take care of. i have read numerous complaints from other trailblazer owners on the internet, this is what moved me to file this complaint. *tr
I just purchased a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer last night 1/25/10,today the speedometer and the gas gauge do not function. the speedometer rotates when it want all the way around the dial. the dealer states it is an as is car and they are not responsible. i researched today and found way too many complaints on this issue on this model. why isn't gm adding this to their recalls on other models with the same issue? *tr
Speedometer stopped working. *tr
I have a 2005 chevrolet trail blazer that the tachometer and speedometer fail to work. doing research on the web this seems to be a common problem. why is there not a recall for this safety hazard?*cw
The speedometer begins to tick as i press on the gas pedal and jumps anywhere to 80-100mph and i may be only going 30. it stalls and then continues to jump until it is reading off the scale. it now resides off the scale and i have no way of telling what speed i am traveling at other than using my gps. the safety concerns of not knowing the speed at which i am traveling along with the legal issues i may face is why i am filing this complaint. *tr
The speedometer on my 2005 chevy trailblazer is out of wack. it registers at least 3 to 4 times faster than i am going. i have no way of knowing how fast i'm going . *tr
Fuel gauge started functioning erratically - would go from empty to full or just start going between full and empty floating around. eventually it just stayed on empty even when i had just filled up. from the time the problem started till it stopped working was only a matter of weeks. now my oil gauge stopped working also. *tr
1. while driving the speedometer stuck at 65 mph 2. the speedometer shows 65 mph when the car is stopped and when driven, it goes to a higher mph as i drive. 3. nothing has been done yet as i am waiting for a repair estimate. *tr
The speedometer malfunction began on january 11, 2010. first the speedometer appeared to be stuck at zero. now it has gone up and past the highest mph reading on the 2005 trailblazer. there has been a recall on the other chevy trucks with the same speedometer but has not included the trailblazer. how can one safely drive when you don't have an accurate reading on how fast the vehicle is traveling? *tr
Speedometer on 2005 chevy trail blazer is not working properly. says im doing 20 mph when im stopped and says 120 when going 50. *tr
2005 gm trailblazer speedometer with 58300 miles is totally inoperative due to a faulty stepper motor within the instrument cluster panel. other gauges in this cluster are also potentially susceptible to premature failure because they use the same defective model stepper motor. this is a safety issue especially during rainy or icy months where unknown excessive speed could cause a fatality. the speedometer, as well as the odometer, should be serviceable for the life of the vehicle and is not deemed perishable. gm customer service uses a predefined 'denial of service' campaign by which they gather information and require dealership testing , the cost of at least $88 to be paid by the owner, then denies all remedial action by using the vin number and mileage as a reason to not replace the known defective part. this is thought to be integral to the delphi gm parts suit $100 million settlement of september 10, 2007 where the defective stepper motor part was publicly acknowledged and gm is suppose to replace them without cost to the consumer. further evidence of gm using a known defective part in their speedometer is a class action settlement filed and won by tousley brain stephens, llc on november 7, 2008. *tr
Trailblazer 2005 fuel gauge failure, speedometer intermittent failure, vehicle lunges at idol or shuts off approaching stop/brake. almost causing accident. been to repair and intermittent problem not identified. fuel system flushed. speedometer issue same. fuel gauge currently not working properly, unreliable. *tr
I own a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer, have own it since i bought it in 2005 and have no problems up until recently. today i was driving down the highway when my speedometer quit working. i would not show the correct speed in which i was traveling on the highway for the posted speed limit, realizing that everyone else on the road seem like they were parked on the highway, as i am flying by them is when i realized that my speedometer/instrument panel. this problem happened on my travel to a location and back on a couple of occasions. i managed to figure out that the longer i had the vehicle running the problem would occur. if i shut the vehicle off and let it cool down it would be fine for about 15-20 mins than act up again. this is something that is unsafe and can potentially cause harm in the near future if it is not addressed with other owners. luckily i did not cause any accidents or pulled over. *tr
I have an 05 chevy trailblazer and my speedometer does not work. i will sit at 45/mph or something else when i turn it off/on. *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer lt speedometer goes crazy and up to 120 mph when car is only going 40mph. gas gauge is also not working accurately all the time. stepper motor's need replacing and gm won't recall it and fix. *tr
We bought a 2005 trailblazer about a year and a half ago. out of the blue about two weeks ago, the speedometer goes haywire. it says that i am going 60 mph. when i was actually going about 15 because i was in a residential area and it was snowing. a few days later it started working again, and then today it just completely stopped working. it wont move at all. its completely broken. *tr
Like many people my 2005 chevy trailblazer has several issues regarding the instrumental panel. the first time this occurred was during a cold snap and all of the gauges got stuck on the down or off position. after some time some of the gauges (ie. speedometer ,tachometer, and oil pressure ) starting working again however, the majority of the time the readings were inaccurate. after some time elapsed (this year - 2012) the tachometer and oil pressure gauge stopped working completely. this has become an extremely hazardous situation because no vital information is being provide to the driver and the manufacture will not fix the issue. *tr
We own a 2005 chevy trailblazer with 62,000 miles. i was driving down the highway when i noticed that the gauge was reading 120 mph. i pulled to the side of the road, and when it was in park it only went down to 45. this is a huge problem for me, i have no idea how fast i am going!!! i searched the internet, and this looks like a common problem for chevy products. please help i don't have the $600 to fix this. *tr
Speedometer does not work on 2005 chevrolet trailblazer and 2005 silverado. *tr
Speedometer no longer working properly. it varies from day to day as to what speed it shows that the vehicle is traveling. i believe this to be a danger in the fact that you do not know how fast you are actually traveling. to get technical the dmv says that you should have atleast 1 car length for every 10 mph you are traveling between you and the vehicle ahead of you in order to stop your vehicle in time. how can you do that if you don't know how fast you are going. was quoted $500 cost to repair. *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer...speed/gas/oil/basically all gauges are messed up...i see online there are many complaints as to this issue...this causes a safety issue for my kids and myself...if i can't depend on my gauges then what do i do... *tr
My 2005 chevy trailblazer ext 4x4 has a short in the electrical that runs the ac/heat fan. chevy acknowleged there is an issue and have created a service bulletin on how to address the issue. but say it is up to the car owners to pay for the fix. this has caused my electrical wires to melt together and i can smell the smell of burning plastic almost everytime i drive the car and have on the heat for more than 10 min. i am afraid my car is going to catch on fire. *tr
The speedometer on our 2005 trailblazer has malfunctioned and no longer reads the correct speed. this started without cause and consistently shows the speed as 85 mph or higher no matter how fast you are actually going. driving a large vehicle and not being able to tell what speed you are traveling at is extremely dangerous regardless of the increased potential for traffic citations. *tr
I currently own a 2005 chevy trailblazer. over the past year i have a variety electrical problems with my blazer. in the january of 2010 i had to replaced by ac / heater as it simply went out. when the vehicle was fixed a certified mechanic he showed us the wiring harness that had simply malfunctioned and melted all of the wires together. now in the past three months my gas gauge has stopped working, indicating that it is low on fuel or empty and my speedometer is no longer functioning. i am very worried about the electrical problems and the risk of a potential hazards to myself and my family. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer ls. he stated that the instrument panel displayed the incorrect fuel level, mileage, and speed traveled. the dealer stated that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. there were no recalls on his vehicle. the dealer stated that the repairs would be at the owner's expense and that the panel could possibly fail again. no repairs were made to date. the failure and current mileages were 57,413.
All gauges on my 2005 chevrolet trailblazer have failed. it appears to be a very common problem, and many other chevrolet models using the same gauge cluster have been recalled, but not the trailblazer. *tr
I am also having problems with my speedometer. i am contacting general motors in detroit to see about getting this problem fixed not only for myself, but for everyone else who is having this problem. (they fixed my faulty fuel problem). *tr
Purchased full tank of gas and the gauge goes to empty, which means the tank is shown to be on empty; unable to tell amount of gas in vehicle; other gauges work improperly, including radio knob which continues to turn endlessly, wires in radio pops; oil gauge on 60 or above. *tr
My speedometer has failed on my 2005 trailblazer with 67,000 miles on it. it started malfunctioning in dec.09 intermittently. now the defect seems permanent. my chevy dealership says gm will not stand behind the problem. i escalades. why was the trailblazer not included when they exhibit the same problem with instrument cluster failures. is it because it is too large a problem to deal with. it is a safety issue when the speedometer is incorrect. there are too many failures to have this problem disregarded by gm. this is an expensive repair(about 5-600 dollars).the number of complaints are so great that i feel gm is ducking the problem. i can understand why gm needed a government bailout by manufacturing vehicles having such a grievous problem. instrument clusters such not be failing at such a horrendous rate. *tr
The speedometer on my 2005 chevrolet trailblazer stopped functioning. it is now stuck below the zero mark, in between 0 and 120. the car has about 56,000 miles on it. this seems to be a serious problem with this make. it is completely unsafe, and i am not sure what to do. *tr
My speedometer dropped to zero as i was crossing railroad tracks, and my cd player stopped accepting cd's during that same time period for no apparent reason. the gauge later stuck at first 20 - 15 mph, and then to 10 mph when the suv is stopped. after about 2 months, it corrected itself. the gas gauge then went out. it would register the tank as empty no matter if it was filled. this began 2/2010. i, a disabled driver, have run out of gas on a deserted road 12:15 a.m. in the winter due to having to calculate miles driven with the tachometer to determine approximate gas consumption. unfortunately, that calculation doesn't account for engine idling in traffic jams . i sat in the middle of the road in my cold suv praying no one came around the curve and slammed into me since i ran out of gas in the middle of a dark rural road. i was terrified in this situation and rarely drive at night if i can help it because of the manufacturer's known defect and negligence. i have paid over $500 to repair these manufactures defects, only to have them malfunction again within 1 week of repair. i was told by the mechanic that he would not attempt to fix it a second time. once again, my speedometer is no longer registering the correct speed, and i have been pulled over by a police officer for speeding. i showed the officer my speedometer, and to my surprise he let me off with a warning and told me that he has pulled over other trailblazer drivers for speeding who in turn had the same or similar issues with their speedometers. i have had interior lights malfunction, and driver side head light malfunctions where the light keeps going out. the headlight was checked by a mechanic and was not deemed loose or blown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the speedometer will not display the accurate speed of the vehicle. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealership. the current and failure mileages were 55736. updated 01/20/10 *bf the consumer stated the problem initially happened when the cruise control set. the speedometer climbed to 110 mph, not the vehicle just the speedometer. the speedometer was erratic. often, when the vehicle is in park, the speedometer will register 90 mph. the dealer informed the consumer a cluster was needed. updated 01/22/10.*jb
Fuel gauge and speedometer are not reading correctly on my 2005 chevy trailblazer. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer ls. while driving approximately 60 mph, the contact stated that the speedometer registered a speed of 120 mph; although she was driving 60 mph. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer (as advised by the manufacturer) where the contact was informed that the instrument cluster was defective. the manufacturer refused to assist with the repair expenses. the vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. the failure mileage was approximately 77,000. the current mileage was 79,369.
Speedometer stopped working while driving on the freeway. the only reason i found out was chp stopped me for going 45 mph. once i began to slowdown the speedometer jumped to over 100mph! i explained the situation and he followed me to the next exit where i let the car rest. he knew i need to let the car rest because he had pulled over another trailblazer with the same problem!! *tr
2005 chevy trailblazer instrument cluster going haywire, speedometer saying you are going 80mph while you are not even moving. you have to guess on how fast you are going. *tr
The cluster, as i have been informed by a gm specialist, is defective on my 2005 trailblazer. the problems with this causes me undue stress because i am never certain of the amount of gas i have and the oil meter gives misreading. i travel alone most of the time and with the uncertainty of the gas, it is always a frightening experience. this all started in 12/12/09 and recently gm had me go through the process, as if they did not already know the issues with these vehicles, to a tune of $100 plus dollars at my cost. after the inspection was complete, i was informed that due to the amount of mileage, slightly pass 67k when i contacted them and at the time they were informed that my extended warranty had expired, i was informed that there was nothing they could do about it. i think that the issue with them refusing to make amends regarding the vehicle and then to have my pay money was a true form of deception. i can not know the accurate speed, the gas needle sways from left to right and the oil needle, even during freezing temps, is always beyond the correct point. this is a slap in the face to me, a consumer, and they will not offer any assistance in remedying the problem. so, yes, it is a safety hazard because i bought a vehicle for dependability and this one does not afford that to me and their refusal is sickening. i have no trust in any of the gauges because i question the accuracy of them and too, the speedometer could really lead to getting tickets or worse. *tr
