Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

The speedometer at any given moment will go haywire. will read over or under what speed you are actually driving. this is caused by a faulty instrument cluster. safety concern is that you do not notice right away that the speedometer is out of whack so you don't know how fast you are actually going, leaving you vulnerable to driving too fast for road conditions and potentially causing a very serious accident. this is a known problem in the 2005 chevy trailblazer and gm will do nothing to repair this. *kb

Blower fan stays on constantly even when is cut off. only way to cut off fan is to pull out module in fuse box under hood.:( *tr

The suv was going about 40 mph when the instrument panel showed 120 mph ... it will not go back to normall ... it does now show 100mph even with the car off. *tt

The instrument cluster went out.i am not sure how fast i am going or how much fuel i have. from everything i have read on line this is very common. i don't understand why gm has not issued a recall. *tr

Speedometer jumps to different speeds . when you shut off the truck it will stay stuck 110mph, or when you restart the car it will just jump down a little 100mph. other chevy models have had recalls on the same problem but not chevy trailblazer? why *tr

The speedometer no longer works. as the weather gets colder, the needle will get stuck in the 90-100 range and not reset when the car is turned off.i am the original owner of the car and this started happening about a couple of years ago as the winter approaches. in the summer the speedometer seems to work fine. years ago the needle on the oil gauge stopped working. it was going to cost over $700.00 to replace the instrument panel so decided against that since i change the oil regularly. the speedometer is a necessity and the occurring defect seems like a very common problem on this model. why isn't this being addressed? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the fuel gauge was inoperable and the speedometer was permanently stuck at 20 mph. in addition, the fuel warning light was constantly illuminated despite how much fuel was in the vehicle. the vehicle was not inspected. the current mileage is 82,000 and the failure mileage was 80,000 updated 11/16/11*lj

i have been hearing a clicking noise and my car had begun sounding like a jet engine taking off for the last 3 days - very noisy. i took it to pep boys where i was told that it is normal for the trailblazer to begin making this noise shortly after 60k miles. i was told the serpentine belt needed to be replaced, tensioner pulley and the idler pulley. i had the new parts installed. none of my warning lights came on the dashboard so i assumed was well as there was no other indication that something was wrong. driving my car within 24 hours of being fixed, the fan clutch seized and my water pump burst causing car to overheat in the middle of an intersection where my car then stalled putting me and my children at risk for injury. the car almost caught on fire it was smoking severely. someone helped me move my car out of the busy intersection and i called my husband and a tow truck to come get the car. when i got home and looked up the problems again on the dealer website, i found hundreds of forums where the fan clutch has been mentioned and the water pump too. a fan clutch according to the mechanics i surveyed stated they should last at least 100k or more. this has been brought to gm and they ignore it. it is a safety issue. additionally, my speedometer hasn't worked for at least a year and when i called chevy they wanted to charge me $700 to replace it when it is not my issues. i didn't cause it. not knowing what speed you are going is definitely a safety hazard and can cause accidents or tickets.i am attaching a forum (this is just one of hundreds i found online)http://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/trailblazer/2004/consumer-discussions.html where people are having the same safety issues i am and gm has ignored them. my car could have caught on fire today and i had my 4 yr old daughter with me. not a position i ever want to be in. please issue a recall. *tr

As i was driving on florence blvd my speedometer quit working and the oil gauge wasnt registering but the others were working ok. now all of them do not work except every once in awhile one or two of them might start working for awhile then they will stop working. with all the other complaints it seems to me that this is a manufacturer defect and chevrolet should be made to fix it at their expense. they let faulty products go thru qc now they need to fix the problem. thank you. *tr

While driving this morning on the highway, my speedometer stopped working. now the gauge is point down and will not register. *kb

in 2007 i paid off my vehicle and now became the proud owner of my truck. in 2009, i noticed some problems with my truck. first, the gas gauge would say "f" full, but really it was on "e" empty. then the mileage gauge ? i can be on the expressway going as fast as the other cars, but my car reads 20 mph. this is crazy!!!! i called at 800-number for gmc and was informed that there was no recalls or any others calls for the 2005 trailblazer, which i knew was a huge lie!!!! i decided to go on line and google the make and model of my car. wow? guesses what i seen? there were over 41,000 people who have the same problems that i had for their 2005 trailblazer. again, the problem with my truck has gotten worst. in 2010, i called again and was informed that their still wasn't any other calls or concerns with my truck and that i should take it to an authorize chevy dealership. well, i did .. . in 2011, i called again.. same script same story!!! i received a letter for a emission test for my car. well, let me tell you when i took my vehicle up to the emission testing it failed!!! . i got an estimate cost of $ 1900, plus they found 3 additional codes. . well, i got a 2008 chevy impala. i went from paying no car note, to $381.00 a month note. the week of september 4th, 2011.. i receive a letter from chevrolet addressing the issues with the 2005 chevy trailblazers, and offering 50% on repairs for the same problems that i have been calling on for 2 years. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Intermittently while driving at various speeds the headlights and dash lights will go dim for a few seconds then return to normal. the voltage gauge also drops, then returns to normal. *tr

My speedometer needle would read the wrong mph and start to bounce all over the place and about a week after that started it just wasn't working all together and now doesn't move at all. *tr

My speedometer began to work improperly. sometimes it would not go all the way back to zero when the ignition was switched off, or it would be functioning properly and then for no apparent reason the needle would go all the way around and end up pointing at the park, neutral, reverse area at the bottom of the speedometer. now the speedometer does not work at all and the tachometer has started to work intermittently. it is doing the same thing that the speedometer was doing. right now the vehicle is off but the tachometer needle is on 3. i just had the fuel sensor gauge replaced under chevrolet's "special policy" because it had ceased working as well. i have serious reservations about the integrity of the other gauges because while they appear to be working i do not know. i contacted cheverolet and was told that while other makes and models had been recalled mine had not. when i inquired as to whether the components for my instrument cluster came from the same supplier as that of the recalled vehicles i was told that they would not disclose that information to me because it was confidential. they did say they had other complaints similar to mine but at this time they were not offering any assistance to consumers and did not know if or when they ever would. i was told that due to the age of my vehicle (a 2005) that i could expect certain repairs. i do expect certain repairs however a total failure of the instrument cluster, that has been documented on my make and model as well as other chevrolets, is not one of them. it is frustrating and disheartening to me that while chevrolet is aware of the problem they knowingly disregard the concerns of their customers, especially as the malfunction of a fuel gauge, speedometer or any other instrument panel component could have serious consequences. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the speedometer failed. the contact stated that when she came to a complete stop, the speedometer was still on 55 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 57,000.

The low beams on my wife 2005 trailblazer went out while we driving home to va from sc. they still wont work. apparently mine aint the only vehicle with this problem. why wont chevy recall them and repair them. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer. in the last few months the blower for my air/heat/defrost has been acting up. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. just recently in the last few days it stopped working completely. i can't use my defrost to clear my windows or use my air or heat. i was told the resistor and harness (which starts to melt and burn) is causing the blower not to work. i checked with mechanics and on line and there isn't a recall on the resistor and/or harness. there are a lot of complaints and was told that it is happening in all chevys. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that while driving approximately 75 mph, she noticed that the speedometer would display higher speeds. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the speedometer needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer had not been notified. the failure mileage was approximately 51,000.

Fuel gauge has failed. gauge reads empty, even though fuel tank is full. there are sporadic fluctuations of the needle, but gauge is no longer reliable for determining fuel level in the vehicle. numerous reports of similar failures in the chevy trailblazer / gmc envoy line of vehicles indicate it is a failure of the fuel sending unit.

The trailblazer i bought seem to be more of a headache the a sport vehicle. i wish i had look better at all the information the was out there. i will not purchase another one, or recommend this vehicle to anyone. sorry i bought it. *tr

Since 2011 i've been having wrong reading of gas levels causing my vehicle to shutoff. plus my passager air bag displays on when no one is sitting in seat and when someone is sitting in passager seat it occasionally flicker on and off. however i have not had a incident just yet but i'm very concerned and don't feel safe driving with my kids in this vehicle.

Speedometer jumps all over the place. everyday now it will jump forward. when i stop at a stop light it will stick at some mph not going to zero. then when i take off it will start where it halted at. so if it stops at 35mph then when i get to 55 per my gps the speedometer will show i'm going 90. sometimes i'm going 120mph it's all over the place and it happens everyday now. i was reading on-line and see this is an on going problem with trailblazers. *tr

During routine driving around keene nh the speedometer stopped working. nothing has been done yet. *tr

1) fuel gauge indicator shows an empty reading despite just being filled. after driving for 40-50 miles gauge will show about a quarter of a tank for a short time and then go back to empty. when problem first started the gauge was all over the dial. 2) speedometer erratically will show a speed at a greater speed than actually traveling. recently showed going 110mph despite traveling along with traffic flow of approximately 65 mph on major interstate highway. *tr

2005 chevy trailblazer. heat/ac stops working on 5..then eventually 4 stops and so on until none of it works. the wires get to hot and melt together. i know so many people that have had this problem yet chevy still doesn't recall it!? *tr

My speedometer all of a sudden jumped to over 70mph when i was only going about 30mph. since june of this year it has happened numberous times. now it just sits at the bottom of the speedometer when it is turned off. *tr

The speedometer stopped working along with other controls on the gauge cluster. it seems that there are many people that have had the same issue with this in gm vehicles so i am curious as to why this has yet to be recalled. most people do not have $500+ laying around to get this fixed. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy trailblazer that i just found out needs a blower motor resistor replaced. this sounds like a very common issue with the chevy vehicle. the wires were melted by the connection which could easily spark a fire. with three young children in car seats a fire inside the cabin of the vehicle would be disastrous. please make them recall this and take care of this issue. thank you, *tr

The blower/fan on the air conditioner/heater stopped working. it first began with #4 and #5 on the fan selector switch not working, but then it stopped altogether. after doing research this blower motor problem is very popular amongst these vehicles. also, the fuel gauge on the dash hasn't worked in about 3 years. after doing some research, it appears that this is due to the fuel sensor in the fuel tank. again, this is very common occurrence within the trailblazer community. i was given an estimate of $774 for the blower motor to be fixed and $600 for the fuel gauge to be fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that instrument cluster malfunctioned and the fuel gauge provided inaccurate fuel level readings. the contact the ran out of fuel twice due to the faulty fuel gauge. the contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer nor was it repaired. the failure mileage was 64,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the gasoline gauge and the speedometer failed. she was unable to see how fast she was traveling or whether or not she had a sufficient amount of fuel in the vehicle. in addition, the headlights would also shut off on an intermittent basis which caused her to change the bulbs frequently. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor had it been repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and advised her that there were no recalls on the vehicle. the failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

Drove to an appointment, when came out vehicle would not start. called for tow. after approx. 30 mins. and before tow arrived, vehicle started. was able to drive home and made appointment for service. next day while driving to shop for service engine died while vehicle was moving. managed to get off road and vehicle would not start. after a while it started and was able to get it to shop. ignition switch replaced. second incident occurred 6/1/2014. had to have towed to shop. a second ignition switch replacement. contacted chevrolet to inquire why 2005 trailblazer not included in ignition switch recalls and seek possible reimbursement of service costs for recurring problem and was told to contact nhtsa and report. *tr

I have had numerous electrical problems with my 2005 chevy trailblazer (82,000 miles). i have had sensors replaced, my headlights randomly "flicker" to dim while driving at night, brake lights and front turning signals all going out at the exact same time and replacing the bulbs and/or fuses don't fix the problem, now i have two service engine lights on. dealer says it is an electrical issue. the car is not drivable over 20 mph, it has no power and the transmission has been affected by the computer failure. my trailblazer was driving perfectly fine, than the brake lights went out, front signals went out, service lights came on and i was unable to drive the car, all within an hour. the one module that is being replaced is 650.00 with a diagnosis fee of 200.00 to check the computer system of the transmission as 7 different codes came up on the transmission as well. so the repair fee is going to be a fortune. i find it odd that so many other people have had the same kind of issues and there has not been a recall for these electrical issues!!! *tr

As of 2011 (while driving on freeways in multiple occasions) i've been having electrical issues such as my fuel level gage would read full and vehicle would shut off cause no gas in tank, air bags sensor would show it on when no one is sitting in the passenger seat, and there are some electrical issues on driver seat controls not working, dash board gages not showing readings while vehicle is in motion (rmp, speedometer, oil, gas).

Gas gauge on vehicle does not give accurate gas level in tank. readings on the gas gauge fluctuate with vehicle in park, gives empty warning ding when tank is full, and readings on gauge fluctuate erratically at times while vehicle is in motion. have been stuck on highway with an empty fuel tank a couple times with my three young children in the car. it is my concern that this may cause a fire in vehicle so i no longer put my family in it.

I was driving on the freeway when i noticed my speedometer suddenly went to 100 miles an hour. i knew this could not be the case as my gps showed i was traveling at 55mph. it then went to 120miles an hour and flip. flopped back and forth. i went to the chevrolet dealership and they informed me it was the electrical cluster and even though there were many complaints, chevrolet would not pay for it. the cost to me would be over $500 i live on a small social security check, so could not afford to repair it. next at 85,000 miles the fuel gauge went haywire and would not register any fuel although i would fill it completely. also, the lights blink off and on when i am driving at night, so, i am afraid i will be stranded somewhere in the dark with my car quitting all together. this was my last car purchase before i retired and i am just sick that the chevrolet company will not fix these defects...they fix the same cluster in their chevrolet trucks....why not in the cars? by the way, i just got a letter last week saying they would "split the cost " to fix the fuel gauge...(my cost is $200 1/3 of my social security check!! *tr

While driving it appears that my headlights are receiving a surge of power which causes them to blink as if i am flashing my headlights. this has happened on and off for a couple of years now. since this has started i have had to replace my headlights about every 6 to 8 months. after the third time i replaced the same headlight my mechanic showed me the fuse and stated that it seems there is a surge of power that causes the fuses to blow. i explained to him that my headlights seem to blink on their own every now and then and we did some research online and noticed that this seems to be a common problem in mid 2000 model trailblazers. i contacted gm to make them aware with nothing more than a, "sorry for your inconvenience". i have also experienced issues with my door electronics. you can hear the power windows and door locks make a clicking sound as if they are being engaged without being operated. the speakers in the doors do not work after it rains or in very humid conditions. the power windows and door lock button lights work on and off and blink. the door/key chime rarely works. it seems to me that there is a serious issue regarding the electrical system of this model. i recently heard about the recall starting with 2006 models with electrical issues and i really believe this problem is not just isolated to the electronics in the door, but the overall electrical system in these vehicles. considering the amount of complaints i have researched online it seems that these are common problems with these vehicles. please for the safety of the consumers consider an investigation and recall into the full electrical system of this vehicle as it could be a serious safety hazard risking fire. *tr

March 30, 2011, i spent $80.00 on fuel to fill my trailblazer with gas. i started driving and the gas gauge never moved, and was still showing empty with the low fuel warning chiming. when i was almost home the fuel gauge finally started moving but never went past a half tank. i inspected the vehicle to see if there were any signs of a fuel leak and nothing looked out of the ordinary. when i had to leave again to run errands the fuel gauge would move, however, it would go back down to empty when i was stopped or put the car in park. i have also had issues with rear tail light panel wires frying and having to replace those when there were no apparent causes (moisture, etc.). lights dimming while i roll up a window or push other buttons in the car (radio, climate control) and lights in certain areas of the car just blowing out. fuses are fine, alternator and battery are fine. why is this vehicle having so many problems at 56,000 miles? i understand that these are not life threatening issues, but what is next. why do i have to constantly monitor my mileage just to make sure i don't stall or run out of gas when i am driving. are we the customers supposed to shell out $$$ to have repairs done continually on defective equipment and components. i don't think so. gmc needs to drastically improve the quality and durability of their products, and step up to the plate and take care of the customers they do have. word of mouth is way more effective than millions of dollars in advertising.

Speedometer cluster malfunctioning. after seeing that this is a very common issue with these models and others that did have a recall i felt it was my duty to file this complaint. the speedometer reads 70 when i am stopped and well over 120 when i' doing 30 as per my gps

The front blower stopped working while my wife was coming home from a trip with my kids .the temperature outside was 28 degrees the windows fogged up and she hit a deer that she would have seen if the windows weren't fogged.i have replced the blower resistor switch which had a burnt connector it lasted 3 weeks and has gone out again. this is a very bad problem because even when you have this problem repaired it still malfunctions without warning. this is putting myfamily at great risk. onthe other hand had i known that there was problems with chevy trailbrazers and defective parts i would have brought a toyota. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that the speedometer malfunctioned. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who performed a diagnostic test and informed her that there were no error codes or warning lights illuminated; therefore, they were unable to repair the vehicle. the contact notified the dealer in regards to the failure and stated that there were problems with the chips in the computer and they needed to be replaced. the dealer wants the contact to pay for an additional diagnostics test although the local mechanic completed one. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 81,000.

The speed keeps changing and it will not stay accurate and all gauges keep messing up. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated the fuel gauge and oil gauge failed and no longer displayed readings. the contact stated that they did not know the oil pressure or the amount of fuel in the fuel tank. the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage is 71,941. updated 07/21/11 *bf updated 07/25/11

2005 chevy trailblazer lt speedometer failed. *tr

Faulty speedometer - reads 60mph when at a stop - under warranty - dealership replaced instrument cluster panel current problems - gas gauge reads empty when tank jus filled, lights dim and brighten intermittently, replaced battery 9/2011 thinking problem with battery when car just died on me, check engine light just goes off and on, replaced front left head lamp and within 1 week the same bulb is dead. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. the contact stated that while driving various speeds the instrument cluster suddenly failed. the fuel gauge displayed that the tank was empty when the contact added fuel to its capacity. the speedometer would also display that she was driving at higher speeds than normal. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who advised her that the entire instrumental cluster needed to be replaced. the manufacturer advised her that the vehicle was not included in any recalls and offered no further assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 72,000. the vin was unavailable.

The oil pressure gauge stopped working. second incident at a later date, the speedometer stopped working correctly, third incident at a different time, the fuel gauge reads incorrectly, fourth incident, the battery gauge is working sporadically. most of the time the gauges do not function properly or not at all. *tr

traffic was horrible bumper to bumper, i was driving and realized not to rush so i stood in the first lane, as i was driving bumper to bumper i always drive within one car lengths in case i get rear ended. as i am driving bumper to bumper all for a sudden next thing you know my car just suddenly accelerated at incredible speed i manage to swerve into the emergency lane to avoid causing a multiple car pileup my car died instantly i started it up again and it just wanted to take off as it did before i turned the car off thinking to myself my god what just happened and what is going on, i am trying to calm my 12 year old child because it was the most frightening thing i am my family ever went thru. i press the break and just relax for a second and started the car up and it was fine. however, my nerves were pretty much shaken, i had taken the car to jj auto shop in hayward who is ase certified he did a diagnostic on the vehicle he said he could not verify what i was saying, no error lights and the history was clean. he also mentioned the computer at times does not pick up a split of a second acceleration. he believes my story and said everything is done thru computer so there is no finding as of the moment. i was not sold on that but he also recommend i could change the body throttle @ 700.00 but he said i just dont want you to buy the part so you could just drive in the slow lane and if it happens again to shift the car into neutral and turn it off asap> my thing is since cars are computerize this should have why is it they could not verify my situation and also body throttle what he was looking at and what chevy thinks it was! so my complaint is for chevy did they overwrite software to overlook sudden acceleration? the only major issue i had had with my vehicle was when the speedometer went crazy as i was driving 110 but was really going 35mph

Gas gauge indicates low after fill up. it then varies between empty and full. after reading all the complaints on the internet of the identical problem with this vehicle, i feel there should be a recall. this is a serious problem. it is impossible to track how much gas you have left by mileage, especially when there are multiple users of the vehicle. if the vehicle suddenly stops in traffic (local road or highway) it could result in serious injury or death. since this is a well known problem, i think the nhtsb should look into this and get chevrolet to recall theses vehicles to replace the sending units. i noticed a complaint was filed for the identical problem with the nhtsb back in 2010, why is it taking so long for action, with all due respect. again, so many trailblazer owners are having this issue. *tr

The speedometer at any givin moment will go haywire. will read over or under what speed you are actually driving. this is caused by a faulty instrument cluster. safety concern is that you do not notice right away that the speedometer is out of whack so you don't know how fast you are actually going, leaving you vulnerable to driving too fast for road conditions and potentially causing a very serious accident. this is a known problem in the 2005 chevy trailblazer and gm will do nothing to repair this. *tr
