I was in a car accident, where i was traveling at about 35 mph. an aggressive driver speed around me and cut me off and than stomped on this brakes in front of me. due to that i swerved to miss him clipping his right back light ad bumper with my left headlight and bumper. as i was swerving i hit a tree just about dead on with my ar. the majority of the impact occurred just about 6 inches to the left (if looking at the car) of the center of the front of the car. i hit the tree at a speed of about 28-30 mph. after initial impact i was rushed to the hospital due to unconscious and facial contusions. during the first moments after the accident, one of the first things officers, emts and witnesses said was "i can't believe the airbags didn't go off". in the recent days after the accident i have had several mechanics and such appraise the car, the one common theme they all share is that they suspect there might not be an airbag where it belongs. or the lack there of. *tr

I drove to the airport i got there early and my son was sleeping so my cousin and i decided to take a little nap as well. it was thanksgiving week. it was very cold outside so we started the car to warm it up after about an hour, then my son woke up so we decided to start getting everything ready to get on the shuttle. remember we are parked in a parking lot and have not moved for over an hour. we got my son out of his seat brought him to the front seat with us, i was getting his diaper bag ready and my cousin was changing his diaper and putting his shoes on for me. when she was done my son wanted me and as soon as he got to the middle console, out of no where the front airbags deployed, on both sides drivers and passengers side! luckily none of us were hurt and my son was where he was or he would have been severely injured he was only 18 months at the time of the incident! as soon as i got home i called general motors myself and reported the incident and they made an appointment with me to investigate what could have made this happen. they said they found nothing, so obviously there was a default somewhere. i have been trying to get help for months now and i am getting no where. i could trade it in but without airbags i am losing a couple thousand dollars. both sides are still all open and not fixed i do not have the money to fix them, i do not and did not want to sue, i would just be happy with a trade in so i can have a safe vehicle for my family and myself. *tr

I struck a vehicle that broadside when he ran a stop sign. i was going approximately 30 to 35 mph when i struck his vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. i was taken away in an ambulance and had damage to my cervical spine, stomach and mid spine. i did inquire where i had the vehicle repaired, about $8k in damages, about why the airbags didn't deploy. they said they didn't know but checked and said the airbag system was functioning? i see many such "stories" about trailblazer airbags not deploying on this site. it really be nice to see something done about this situation. this vehicle has been in several wrecks and the airbags have never deployed!!!!! note, i have written to chevrolet/gm about this issue but don't really expect them to respond! some support from the nhtsa would really be appreciated and is needed before anyone else get hurt when the airbags don't deploy! *tr

I drive a 2002 chevy trailblazer 4wd and my son was driving the vehicle on halloween night. he was driving the speed limit of 30 mph and swerved to avoid a possum in the road, he overcorrected and lost control of the car causing the car to colide with a tree at the front panel and driver's side door. upon impact the air bag did not inflate and the car immediately caught fire. luckily my son was able to crawl out the passenger side window but this could have been a terrible situation. we would like to know why the airbag did not inflate and why the car would have caught on fire with a driver's side impact?

I was traveling at approx 44 mph southbound on blankenbaker ln (louisville ky) when vehicle 1 failed to yield right of way at intersection and made a left hand turn eastbound into the path of my vehicle. i struck vehicle 1 (a 1991 cadillac brougham) essentially driving through the passenger side of the vehicle. both vehicles sustained severe front end damage. specifically, my 2002 trailblazer sustained over $8000 in damage the airbags did not deploy. i fractured my sternum and bruised my heart as a result of this accident. all repairs were made by gm repair shop (bauchman chevrolet, louisville ky). i initiated an investigation with gm as to why the airbags failed to deploy. after 10 month investigation, gm ruled that accident was a non-deployable event stating that my vehicle did not stop suddenly enough to trigger airbag deployment but continued to travel after impact becoming lodged on highway divider. see also accident of jan 7, 2010, where same vehicle was struck head-on while at rest. both vehicles were a total loss. again, airbags failed to deploy and gm shop found broken airbag sensor and severe frame damage. *tr

After returning from a business trip. i started my car at the airport, and the second that i turned the ignition the drivers side airbag deployed. i took the car into the dealer the next day to get it fixed. after looking at it dealer said the repairs would cost $1500, and that because the car is out of warranty gm would not be able to pay for the repairs. after calling the gm customer service line, they told me the same thing, that i should take my complaint to the bbb. after that conversation i decided to pay to have the repairs made, and then have the bbb arbitrate the situation. but on the following tuesday june 20, 2006. the dealer called and said that gm would not provide him with needed technical support to diagnose why the airbag deployed for no reason. he said that until i agree not to sue them over this, they will not provide the needed information to help fix my car. i do not feel this is right. *jb
