Tl* the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. while shifting the vehicle into park, the gear selector displayed drive. while taking his foot off of the brake pedal, the vehicle lurched forward. he speculated that the retainer clip, that holds the shifter cable to the gear selector arm on the transmission, had fractured. he was in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer. the failure mileage was 75,100. updated 12/01/09 *bf the transmission cable linkage failed. the consumer pulled to a stop, applied the brake and moved the shifter to park. when he removed his foot from the brake, the vehicle lurched forward. he immediately applied the brake again, turned off the engine and set the parking brake. he verified that the shifter was in park. he also observed the transmission indicator on the instrument panel indicators that the vehicle was still in drive. he attempted to move the shifter from the park position, but the safety interlocks would not allow the shifter to be moved, even after depressing the brake pedal. when he looked under the vehicle and checked the linkage he saw the shifter cable was no longer attached to the transmission range selector lever. there was a white nylon bushing at the end of the shifter that holds the cable end on the selector lever. one side of the bushing had broken off. the consumer was able to make a temporary repair by manually moving the transmission range selector lever to the park position and placing the linkage cable end back onto the end of the selector level. updated 12/01/09.*jb

My complaint is about my 2002 chevy trailblazer.on the front right (passenger side) of the vehicle.whenever i hit a bump there is an almost uncontrollable vibration.i have to bring the vehicle to a complete stop to make it stop. this started about two months ago and is gradually getting worse.i took it to a number of shops and they're all telling me the same thing.transfer case.the cheapest estimate is about $1300 , and that is for a used transfer case.i love this truck and i really have not had any problems until recently.then i started to read reviews and realized that i'm not the only one having this problem.i take very good care of my vehicles because i can't afford to keep buying new vehicles all the time,or very costly repairs. just about every vehicle that i've owned has been 4 wheel drive and i've never had this problem before ,even on trucks with twice as many miles. i am hoping that there is something that can be done that may help me with this problem .i really can't afford a new truck and i don't want to repair it with used parts .by the way,the cost of repair with new parts is roughly around $2900 . *tr

2002 chevrolet trailblazer ls transmission cooler lines rusted through causing transmission to burn up 3rd and 4th gears of automatic transmission. it appears that by reading the other two submissions that general motors has a problem and to where they located the cooler lines to cause rust through. i did have some brake work that i believe caused the rusted cooler lines to be jarred enough for the lines to be sped up to the rupture point. *tr

Details: i have a 2002 chevy trailblazer. when i press on the accelerator the vehicle will lose power for a moment and regain power in heavy traffic. also, the service engine light will come on. i took this vehicle to a service center and they told me the repairs that it supposedly needed . everything from the fuel pump to every sensor that you can think of . now it seems to be something with the electrical system. i have already replaced the whole steering collum and everything that they suggested . but the problem with the vehicle did not change. this vehicle has been doing this for 8 months with . i believe that there is a electrical issue somewhere in my vehicle. somebody help! *tr

We were driving our 2002 chevrolet trailblazer to the local mall and upon speeding up to 35 mph and changing to faster lane, transmission gave way and vehicle immediately decelerated while traffic behind us was approaching. a bit of a scary moment, but there was no accident. there was no warning that this was about to happen, and i had my wife and three-year-old in the vehicle. the transmission was completely wrecked on a vehicle that is well maintained and only has about 62,000 miles on it. after reading on the internet this seems to be a well documented problem, but i also believe a safety issue, and gm has never recalled these transmissions to address this issue. *tr

2002 trailblazer transmission cooling line leak from corrosion. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. while attempting to place the vehicle into reverse, it failed to move and a whining noise was coming from the engine. through online research, the contact found nhtsa campaign id number 01v283000 regarding the transfer case, but the vin was not included in the recall. the contact feels that this is a safety issue because the vehicle cannot operate in reverse. the current and failure mileages were 142,002.

Wiper motor was recalled for hestation but still does the same thing after being fixed replaced fan clutch 2008 transmission shifts/hesitates from 1st to 2nd cruise control stopped working when the tranny problem started. *tr

Gmc: fluid leak from transmission oil cooler lines due to corrosion. *tr

92,0000 miles, we do no towing. i've had vehicles that get 150,000 miles with no transmission problems. driving vehicle when all of a sudden it shifted into second gear, i pulled to the side of the road and stopped. put vehicle in park and shut engine. looked under hood & saw no obvious problems. restarted vehicle and drove 3/10 m. and repeated same mannerism of shifting into 2nd gear. had vehicle towed and shop told us we need a new transmission. *tr

My 2002 chevrolet trailblazer ls developed a leak in the transmission cooling line where the line was covered with a foil covered fabric protector, which while i'm sure it provided heat protection, sure did do a good job at retaining salt water during the winter. realizing that transmission fluid is combustible and the catalytic converter, which is located in close proximity gets pretty hot, this could have resulted in a serious fire. *tr

Bought a 2002 chevy trailblazer from a used car dealership in 04/09 and noticed a small puddle of fluid on the driveway. i did some quick searching and found that due to the location of the oil filter some oil could puddle up on the "skid plate" under the truck which can drip for a few days after so i thought nothing of it. luckily i checked the transmission fluid after my wife mentioned the truck was shifting funny. it was 2 qts low and after further investigation i noticed the transmission cooling lines are severely corroded and leaking. i did some searching and noticed a tsb for the issue - pit-4722. chevy should issue a notice to the users of these vehicles and offer to replace. i don't know about all the other vehicles but the transmissions cooling line is leaking right next to the trailblazers exhaust and i'm guessing that is not a very safe situation. *tr

2002 chevy trailblazer - we had the transmission in our 2002 trailblazer replaced in sept of 2006 because the sun gear failed and ruined the transmission. this truck has not towed anything. now 35000 miles later, the same problem. this is the second transmission that had to go into this suv with the towing package. we don't tow anything and yet the transmission fails from highway driven miles. this is obviously some type of defect after researching the internet, i have found many people having the same problem. i am tired of wasting hard earned money to pay for a manufactures faulty parts. they even have a service bulletin stating a potential problem with the part and don't do anything about it. i am tired of paying 2200.00 + to correct their problems. when the transmission failed again a few days ago, my wife was nearly run into by the car behind her. i am seriously considering legal action. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 40 mph on normal road conditions, the engine revved up without warning. the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, but there was no response. in addition, the four-wheel drive indicator was flashing intermittently. roadside assistance was called to the scene and the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. the dealer stated that the encoder motor in the transfer case was the cause of the failure. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 01v283000 (power train;transfer case,4-wheel drive). the vehicle has been repaired. the failure mileage was 122,117 and current mileage was 122,250. the consumer stated the vehicle slipped out of gear and would not move. the 4ed drive indivator light illuminated. updated 04/16/09.*jb

1. backing out of a parking space. heard a loud pop. 2. reverse no longer works, cant back out of parking spaces. will not shift into 2nd or 4th gear. transmission needs to be replaced. 3. transmission must be rebuilt or new transmission installed. costs between 1500 and 3000 dollars. car only has 67,000 miles on it and the transmission should not fail this quickly. *tr

I have 2002 chevy trailblazer that transmission failed at 113,000 miles. rebuilt at a cost of $2,000 by dealer. also transfer case electronic modulator went out and replaced @ $800 by same dealer. also replaced the fan clutch at same dealer for $800. within 1 week i have spent $3,600. i have owned 6 new gm products and have never replaced this much expensive equipment. i know the transmission is a major issue and felt gm or the dealer should help on the repair. dealer refused and would not request gm's help. the other items i am sure are related or replaced at a very high rate. evidence of these repairs are all over the internet. my trailblazer is driven by my wife to work and they are all road miles. i did not expect to pay for all costs but they could have worked with me. i paid $25,000 for this vehicle and expected a lot more. gm does not deserve a bail out. they need a good ass kicking for the dumb asses that tried to support them all these years by buying their product. if there is help from all the bail out money they get include my $3,600. i would not expect a free repair but with the number of complaints there are they should be made to repair or reimburse on some kind of scale. *tr

Front end problems , 4 wheel low comes on at anytime . problem after problems with this 2002 chevy trail blazer .. *tr

On 11/14/07 i purchased a "02 trailblazer from salisbury chevrolet, in scotia, ny. on december 21, 2007 i had the transfer switch replaced because the 4wd would randomly switch from 2wd to 4lo or awd. i never had to use the 4wd last winter, snow falls weren't that bad. went to switch it on this year on 12/19 and come to find out that my 4wd was not functioning. took it the dealer and it will cost me $600 to repair. the "service 4wd" light never came on. *tr

Was pulling into work parking lot when a heard a quick bang followed by screeching noise. i tried parking but could not go into reverse. forward gears appear to work fine but reverse is completely gone. my 2002 trailblazer has under 70,000 miles on it and has always been maintained in excellent condition. after reading some of the complaints online, i suspect that once i take it for repair i will be told it is the sun shell and corresponding gears. i'm glad i wasn't in a dangerous position when the tranny went out but i completely agree that the sun shell issue in these trailblazers is a huge safety issue and it's sickening that as of today a recall to correct the issue is not out there! i suppose it takes a few tragedies for someone to do something about it but i'm hoping that's not the case this time. *tr

I have a 2002 chevy trailblazer with 80,000 miles on it. to make a long story short i have had the transmission serviced per the manufactures recommendations. my dealership has record of this. we have had no problems with the vehicle transmission up until 26 nov 2008. without warning the transmission made a loud bang and i lost overdrive. i also lost reverse gear after getting the vehicle to a parking lot. the transmission shop (aamco) is charging me 2095.00 to rebuild it. this includes a new torque converter. this is ridiculous for a vehicle with only 80,000 miles on it. gm should be ashamed as it seems there is a long list of folks with the same problem as me. i would like some monetary compensation to help repair this. thought you guys might like to know. *tr

1. transfer case seized - 4wd failure while driving 2. fan clutch failure - vehicle does not operate properly in a number of ways. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving 55 mph, the engine revved and would not change gears. the contact arrived home and turned off the vehicle. when he restarted the vehicle, it would only drive forward and not in reverse. the vehicle was towed to the transmission repair shop and they opened the transmission. they discovered scraps of metal where the gear shift was shredded. the mechanic stated that the sun shell was the cause of the failure and a new transmission was needed. the failure occurred without warning. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 98,000.

Transmission all of a sudden starting not going into gear and there was a whining sound. the reverse went out and it skips from 1st gear to 3rd. it will cost about 1300 to repair but i have not done it yet, as i cannot afford it. this seems to be a major issue for many trailblazers due to a defective sun shell part and really should be recalled. *tr

Vehicle switches into 4 wheel drive at random on freeway or anywhere else it decides. unknown times it has been in shop 2xs and all components replaced 1 year ago now it started again . hiatt pontiac chevy dealer replaced the control mod and the switch on dash . under warranty now warranty is up and dealership out of business. *tr

I was driving about 20mph after a turn and i heard a loud clunk then followed a loud winding noise. i could not go more than 25mph so i slowly made it to my home. once i was in park i tried to go in reverse and found that i had lost it. i also lost 2nd and 4th. i got an estimate of $1485.00 so i had to park it until i could save the money up in these hard times. i took it in to my local transmission place and they told me this was a common problem with 02 gm transmissions. if this is so common and i'm reading all these complaints why do i not see any recall.... someone can get seriously hurt especially when there are no warning signs. i would hope to get some sort of monetary compensation for what i had to pay out, especially with gm knowing this is a common problem. this really concerns me with gm, they need to be on the ball for their consumers safety. *tr

I had 37000 miles on my suv when my sunshield went out luckily it was still under warranty. then at 75,000, it went out again, i had to pay for half the cost. now at 134,000 miles my transmission has gone out. i have been round and round with the gm people. they do not want to do anything. i have had it rebuilt twice and it keeps going out. i keep telling the dealership that there is something causes the transmission to keep going out but they don't want to listen and want to put a brand new one in. i think gm should have to pay for everything i have spend so far and also i will not ever by a gm vehicle again. i will buy foreign. i am still out of commission. *tr

As i was driving up a hill in ohio, my car tried to downshift and made a grinding sound and i temporarily lost control of the vehicle causing me to swerve off of the road. i immediately took my foot off the gas and when i regained control, the car no longer shifted correctly. apparently my sunshell broke which i guess is a common problem with cars that have this sunshell in them. it ended up costing $2500 to fix my vehicle because gm uses inferior car parts. this is a safety hazard and a recall should be initiated. *tr

Driving along and hear a thump, rpm's rev up. transmission not shifting properly. then, when i try to put the car in reverse, there is no reverse! this is the second time this has happened on this vehicle. i've read that this happened to numerous people, and it has something to do with the sunshell part of the transmission. chevy needs to recall this as it is an ongoing problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. when the contact shifted into reverse, he noticed that the rpm's would rise; however, the vehicle would not move. he also noticed that the transmission would not shift from first to second gear unless the contact released the pressure off of the throttle. the vehicle was taken to a transmission shop and it was discovered that the sun shield needed to be replaced. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. the current and failure mileages were 39,544.

Failure of transmission on 9-3-08. near collision with oncoming car because of loss of power as i turned left and tried to accelerate across the center line. the car would no longer move forward or in reverse. the car was towed to a transmission shop. they told me that it was the failure of the sun shell, a $39 dollar part. the entire ordeal cost me over $3600.00 and climbing. the failure of the sun shell sheared off the cheap gears and the fragments filtered through my transmission causing more damage. my car had 76,094 miles on it at the time. the owners manual states that service for the transmission is not due until 100,000 miles. i thought i was buying a dependable car. this, i consider a major safety issue. if i was in traffic on the freeway and the transmission failed i would have been in serious trouble. i can only imagine what would have happened if was in the path of a semi truck. in the name of safety and the consumers pocket books who fund this engineering gaff, i think this issue should evoke serious consideration by the nhtsa to enforce a recall of the sun shell transmission part in all gm cars. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle would not move and the rpm's increased. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and has not yet been diagnosed by the dealer. she did not notice any differences beforehand. the current and failure mileages were 154,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. while attempting to shift the gear into reverse, the contact heard a loud noise. she continued to drive the vehicle and, once at her destination, unsuccessfully attempted to shift into reverse again. the following morning, she attempted to drive the vehicle again and it made very loud noises under the hood. in addition, the gear would still not shift into reverse. the contact discovered that she was experiencing the same failures mentioned in nhtsa campaign id number 01v334000 (power train:transfer case (4-wheel drive)). the manufacturer informed her that her vin was not included in the recall; therefore, she would be responsible for the repair costs. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 141,660 and current mileage was 141,694.

There were no signs or symptoms of the transmission sunshell breaking. i never towed anything, no off road driving, no hard shifting, nothing. i just woke up went out to go to the store started my trailblazer and no reverse gear just a whinning noise. *tr

Fan clutch replaced on my 2002 chevy trailblazer this year and also a water pump second time. *tr

The first major problem i had with this trailblazer i was driving down the road at 65 mph when for some reason the 4wd decided to shift into 4 low on its own. well, this ripped out the cv joint half shaft on one side, destroyed the transfer case internals and broke off the axle housing from the aluminum oil pan on the engine. ok, i got that fixed, added a new selector switch, then a few thousand miles later the transmission goes out while i'm on the interstate. it was completely destroyed inside. the transmission shop had to find a new core because mine looked like a bomb had went off inside it. so , i'm thinking it could have been caused by the first problem, maybe a delayed reaction? ok, we get a rebuilt transmission in it and just out of warranty it goes out again. no towing mind you, just easy highway miles with a mind on trying to get the best fuel mileage possible by driving like there was an egg between my foot and the accelerator pedal. so, i go to another transmission shop this time. maybe the first guy didn't do a good job i'm thinking. so the 2nd transmission guy tells me that's not uncommon for the 4l60e to go out like that, they're garbage. so he puts me in a new tranny. well, sure enough 6 months later it lost 3rd and 4th gears. the local shop is not to blame, these transmissions are junk. many have flaws in them and gm knows it. so what are they going to do? unless i receive a recall notice on the transmission, the trailblazer will keep its place in the backyard. until the junk man comes around. *tr

Transmission went bad with no warning . was unable to pass cars and loss of power. *tr

I have a 2002 chevy trailblazer 4wd. the clutch fan is bad. from what the auto parts service center advised me, all clutch fans on the 2002 trailblazers should be recalled. the vehicle runs high rpm's when first starting. this is a safety hazards that the gov. should address with chevy. don't wait until someone loses a life, then act on this complaint. you would think after the firestone tire incident you people would work on the side of the consumer, after all, we do pay for your agency to operate. why is it the consumer always has to pay for big business when they are the ones who are a fault. when building any product, if it fails. then the gov. should enforce a recall. whether it be one or 20 complaints. the consumer has the right to be protected when purchasing any product. when a complaint is made. the you the gov. agency should act and make a recall. before someone gets hurt. it" that simple. *tr

I bought the 2002 trailblazer on february 2008 drove it for about a month and a half total the rest of the time it has been back to the dealership for repairs. everything including the motor needed to be replaced, the transmission needs to be replaced just accelerated onto the gas heard a loud crack and the truck shook like an earthquake had hit, lost acceleration would not go any faster than 30-35 miles an hour and car would not disengage from neutral at first and the would not go into reverse., brakes have made a pulsation feeling and they were done days before i bought the vehicle and replaced again including rotors a month after i bought the vehicle, there have been too many crackling and metallic tinging noises that don't go away, the 4 wheel drive engages and disengages on it's own when driving 65-70 miles an hour. the steering wheel had a constant rubbing noise and dealer told me all of my complaints were nothing detrimental and basically blew me off. the truck jerks alot on it's own doesn't matter if i am in motion or if i put it into gear or park it jerks. i don't feel safe in this vehicle, it seems to be possessed. i am scared to death to drive it, so i have stopped driving it. i don't know what to do. my first car was a chevy and now this one, i will never own another chevy product. i don't know what to do, i don't want this. i fear my own and everyone else's life!! *tr

I was driving down the road and my chevy 2002 trailblazer would not drive right and it started making a loud screeching noise and then i pulled over and i could not go in reverse. i then figures i lost the transmission. no warning. thank god i was traveling slow at the time. i have had several major defects with this vehicle. chevy must have a recall on this problem. last week i had to put in a new fuel filter, a couple months ago it was front hub bearing. i had to get a new starter, brakes and rotors every year, clutch fan. no wonder chevy is having problems they sell junk. please help us people whom can't afford another new vehicle. *tr

The transmission in my 2002 chevrolet trailblazer began to kick or surge in 2nd gear which created a bang in the rear end. i had vehicle inspected by a gm dealer and they told me the could determine where the problem was coming from. they suggested that i should keep driving the vehicle. about 2 weeks after the inspection, the transmission in my 2002 chevrolet trailblazer failed with 70,000 miles when i was pulling out of a parking lot. vehicle left me an 2 passengers stranded and i had to pay to tow the vehicle. the same gm dealership tore down the transmission and determined the cause was a failed sungear in the transmission. gm did not stand behind any of the repair even though they admitted to me over the phone that there is a problem with the transmission (model# 4l60e). i was not able to afford the $3,200 factory rebuild that the gm dealer offered to sell me, which gm said was already at a discount. all i could afford a the time was to replace the transmission with a used transmission with 40,000 miles on it. now i have about 8,000 miles on the vehicle since the replacement and the same issue is happening again. i understand i took the chance with the used transmission. the fact that gm admits that there is a problem directly to a consumer and they don't stand behind the problem shows poor company ethics. gm admits the problem but willingly allows the faulty vehicles out on the road risking the lives of loved ones and children. *tr

Have a 2002 chevy trailblazer- son was driving vehicle in wyoming 20 below zero loud clunk and then grinding noise and he stopped there was no 2nd or 4th gears and no reverse. luckily someone stopped to help him and he was ok. my car only had 51,000 miles on it. i called dealership they took it in warranty was gone repairs cost 3,420.00. i started researching complaints about the transmissions and realized there are over 82 complaints and that gm has known about this faulty part called a sunshell that's weak metal and the tork in the engine of the v6 cant handle the pressure so it eventually cracks and breaks then you dead in the water. this could have been a real safety hazard and for many i have read about their problems with children in the car its amazing no one have been killed yet. gm refused to have a recall on this problem due to the expense and is passing this down to its consumers to bear the burden. will i purchase another gm car? not on your life! to anyone who has this vehicle check out the transmission problems on line and contact gm if yours goes out maybe they will step to the plate and help people who paid 32,000 for one of their vehicles! *tr

Transmission problems. locked two back wheels for seconds and back to normal. big scare on the road. after that no reverse was possible. ended up in shop. closed to 2500.00 in repairs. *tr

The 4 wheel drive randomly engaged and the selector lights would switch between awd, 4hi, & 4lo. this occurred on three separate occasions. the 4 selector switch now has gone out completely. *tr

I purchased a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer from younger toyota in hagerstown, md on may 12, 2007. approximately a week and a half afterwards, i contacted the salesman that sold us the vehicle, phil young, complaining that the transmission was making a noise and the vehicle wasn't shifting correctly. he told me to bring it in to the service department. my husband (not car savvy) said that the noise was coming from the underside of the trailblazer and felt it might be the brakes causing the noise and jerking. i stuck to my guns that it was the transmission and wanted it repaired while it still had the 30 day warranty. younger denied it was the transmission and noted my husband's theory of the brakes, but nothing about my complaint concerning the transmission. the trailblazer was taken back 2 or 3 more times to the service department, we demanded they fix it. the trailblazer sat in their lot for three weeks because we would test drive it and bring it right back stating that the problem was still there. on or around january 14, 2008 the trailblazer broke down in charlestown, wv. we took it by creamers automotive, they asked what the symptoms were and the mechanic drove around the block with me, instantly stated that it was the sunshell in the transmission and that they had someone in earlier that week with the same problem. they had purchased their vehicle at younger automotive as well and they denied the transmission problems and wouldn't note it on their paperwork as well. in my research of this problem, i found it to be very widespread, there are hundreds of complaints on one website alone. the sunshell is a faulty part that should be recalled by gm. someone is going to be hurt or even killed if this isn't taken care of immediately. gm is fully aware of this problem, there have been hundreds, maybe even thousands of complaints on this particular vehicle and should take ownership of a product they produce and sell. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving less than 55 mph, the vehicle switched into four wheel drive and the indicator light illuminated. the dealer stated that the in-cover motor sensor needed to be replaced. the repairs were completed; however, the failure persisted. the dealer stated that the in-cover motor sensor needed to be replaced a second time as well as the control module. the failure mileage was 112,000 and current mileage was 120,000.

This vehicle would go out of gear without warning because of a faulty 4 wheel drive switching system. this occurred in traffic, and an unoccupied park situation. the vehicle went out of park and rolled into a door while in the garage. the vehicle also went out of gear in traffic situations causing the driver to find the road shoulder. if the driver manipulated the switch it would sometimes re-engage the transmission. an encoder motor sensor was replaced, then failed in two weeks. it was then diagnosed that the encoder motor was faulty and causing the encoder sensor to fail. replaced motor and sensor again. this is a defect that should be part of the existing recall for all 2002 chevrolet trailblazers, not just the select few as prescribed today. *tr
