We have classified the 3 complaints from 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500HD about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Speedometer issue: reads at least 50 mph sitting still and registers more than 140 mpg at highway speed. my mechanic replaced the sensor in the unit and it worked for about 2 weeks and then it malfunctioned again. cost to repair exceeds $700.00 as the instrument cluster must be replaced. this appears to be a common defect with these vehicles. lack of a functioning speedometer is a safety issue! transmission also required replacement at about 80k miles. *js

Was driving about 60mph and speedometer went to zero then wouldn't go past 15mph after that. sometimes it works and then not. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet silverado 1500 hd. the contact stated that while merging onto the highway at 10 mph, the vehicle lost power without warning. the contact managed to push the vehicle to the shoulder and the vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the hybrid components failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times but no successful remedy was discovered. in addition, the vehicle would seize when in reverse and the check power fluid and the power steering warning lights were illuminated. the contact was also experiencing the fuel gauge indicator providing inaccurate readings and the air conditioner was also functioning erratically. the manufacturer was notified of the issues but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 64,000 and the current mileage was 65,000. ..updated 01/16/2013 *bf the consumer stated the vehicle has been at the dealership for 10 months, where they are unable to repair it. updated 1/28/2013 *js
