2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I was driving on a paved secondary road at about 40 mph. as i approached a rr crossing i put my foot on the brake pedal and when i tried to apply the brakes, the pedal went to the floor. this was a normal gentle application, not a panic stop situation. i then pumped the brake pedal and got just a little braking ability and i was able to stop the vehicle. i was about one mile from my home, so i turned around in a driveway and very slowly returned to my house. i parked in my driveway. about an hour later i went out to the vehicle and noticed a puddle under the vehicle; i then opened the hood and there was a lot of brake fluid sprayed around the engine compartment on the driver side of the vehicle. i made arrangements to have the vehicle checked & repaired and had the vehicle transported to the repair shop. the shop said a brake line was ruptured due to corrosion, also said all of the brake lines had excessive corrosion and recommended that i have all ...

There were two incidents with the 2006 silverado and both related to the steel brake lines. a) during inner city driving, the rear brakes failed. cause was a broken steel brake line from the abs module to the rear 'y' block. believe the leak was closer to the rear axle. new stainless steel line was installed. b) again during inner city driving, the front brakes failed. one of the steel lines failed. it looked like the issue was near the abs module. but in removing all of the remaining brake lines it was hard to tell what was the exact failure point. with the exception of the coated steel lines on the rear axle; all of the original general motors lines were in rusted/corroded state. all steel brake lines have been replaced with stainless steel lines. the truck belongs to my father [xxx] and was driving it both instances. his email is: [xxx]@aoc.gov information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *jb

The air bag service light and is lit as well as the service center saying it needs service, also has the same brake problems the 2007 and up silverados where recalled for with the failure of the front abs sensors. the abs problem could cause an accident at low speed because everytime you stop the abs system activates and pulses until stopped at 15 to 20 mph and increases stopping distance. the air bag light is because of a sensor failure in the front end area and requires replacement. from what i read on the internet these are well known safety issues with the model trucks. the other problems with the premature failure of brake lines that have corroded, and the check engine light being on for the ever well known problem of the vacuum solenoid near the full tank. these are constant problems with this yr and other models at gm. they should be recalled. *tr

While driving the stabilitrak light came on and then the abs light. it stayed on, so i took it to a mechanic who determined it was the brake switch and he replaced it. it has been fine until recently, when it came on again and my brake lights were sticking on, so i replaced the brake switch again. so, far it's stayed off. my concern is that my truck my start having the same issues as our other gm vehicle, which also involves the stabilitrak/traction control/reduced power lights coming on. reduced power is dangerous while driving, especially on the interstate in heavy traffic. i have read gm forums and have found that this problem has been happening as far back as 6 years, and gm still has not figured out how to fix it.
