We have classified the 5 complaints from 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Satellite-radio antenna on top of truck is leaking inside of the truck. the vehicle was parked in our driveway when this occurred. damage done to the interior of the truck due to this happening.
It started as a small bubbles in the paint on the roof right above the windshield before the sunroof. 2 bubbles cracked and driving down the road it took paint off the roof. it looks like someone were to just peel it all off. there are no chips no dings or anything it's peeling off paint everyday and i look online and there are hundreds of others saying the same thing and it's ridiculous 40k truck and the paint is peeling off like there wasn't anything there. all the primer is still there just paint is peeling off badly. i'm very unpleased by gm and the dealerships saying it's out of warranty and can't help with this. gm knows there is a paint issue with these vehicles but won't do anything to help customers. i only have taken one picture so far will have more to come. i also have other people complaining as well about paint even on 2017 trucks this is ridiculous and we have to do something about this issue.
Paint started peeling on the a pillar driver side and is now peeling on passenger side same place. also driver side rear window corner peeling as well as passenger side rear window corner paint peeling same place. paint is now starting to peel above the rear door on the roof as well. i spoke to chevy dealer as well as customer service and the bbb all said out of warranty even though it is a manufacture defect and the discovery rule should apply as there was no way for me to know the paint was defective within the warranty period.
The truck shakes uncomfortably at varying intensities between 70-80 mph.
When locking doors passenger rear door does not lock when parked have to manually lock
Purchased vehicle new in 2014 and currently has 50k (12/18) on vehicle. significant degradation of wax undercoat on frame, peeling off allowing water etc to be trapped beneath it. frame has significant rust on areas where undercoating failed. dealer recommends the frame be repaired and rust stopped to "save what is left of it". dealer says gm will not cover repair. emailed gm and no reply
Leaking headliner coming in through the 3rd brake light and xm satellite radio
I purchased this vehicle june of 2018. i currently have 6+ pain chips on the truck and it keeps getting worse. i do not take the truck through automatic car washes and i keep the truck in a garage. i have seen other chevy silverado owners with the exact issue. i do not feel we should have to pay for these damages as its a defect to their paint job.
The paint on my truck is pealing off. i filed a complaint with chevrolet and they investigated the problem. chevrolet determined that it was a factory defect but since the truck had 69000 miles on it and was out of the factory warranty they would not fix the paint. i feel since it was determined a factory defect they should pay for the repairs.
Paint is flaking away very easily
Paint peeling..paint on hood, side doors by windows are peeling
I bought this 2014 silverado with 42,000 miles in october 2015. i noticed the top of the cab, by the gps/satellite radio antenna had a spot of clear coat missing it's about the size of a dime. i figured that it was normal wear and tear. however about two and a half years later both front doors, driver and passenger have developed the same issue. both spots are very noticeable and look terrible. i've also noticed that the rear quarters have clear coat that's chipped away. i took the truck to a local body shop and the first thing they did was opened the door and noticed that i have rust forming on the inside edge of the door. they recommended i take the truck to the dealer to have it looked at as chevy supposedly has a 10 year corrosion warranty. the first dealer didn't want to help and tried to say that i was washing it wrong. i then took it to the dealer i bought it from. i walked them around the whole truck showing every spot that has chipped clear coat. they did take pictures of all the spots i showed them and would submit them to gm with a filed claim. gm came back a few days later and said it's pretty much my problem since i'm not the 'first owner'. i could fix the issue myself, but after doing some further research. owners of these trucks come back to say that the problem returns, some cases these trucks have been completely resprayed. this is unacceptable. we pay a lot of money for a truck and it goes to crap in less than 5 years. my last chevy was 20 years old when i traded it in and it didn't have paint issues like these newer trucks.
Paint failure on my white 2014 chevy silverado. i have gone to the dealership and escalated my complaint to mary barra's office. declined to provide remedy or correction stating there are no known defects to this product.
Paint peeling, the vehicle has never been off road. peeling around the doors but gm wont fix it and now its out of warranty.
The paint is peeling on the right front passenger door on the lower part near the front of the door. this truck has never been in an accident or had any type of work done to the paint.
About a couple months ago i started noticing paint peeling off on the lower half of the doors, driver and passenger of all doors and also on the sides of the box. my truck is 3 years old with 59,000 miles now. i went to the dealer today and they said i should contact chevrolet directly. there are a lot of other chevrolet trucks the same year and even newer trucks having the same issue. i have had mud flaps installed since the truck was new( the dealer blamed it on rock chips without even looking at the truck). i had to start complaining somewhere right!!
Paint is peeling really easy on the bottom of the passanger side and a little bit on the driver side. paint peels really easy. for only 34,000 miles this is not normal. dealer said there is nothing they can do
Paint "bubbling" with possible rust forming under paint on drivers door and front passenger side fender.
The paint in the bed can be peeled off by hand
I purchase a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500 from a chevrolet dealership in april 2017 for my son to go to college. the truck was in perfect condition. it was a "certified used vechicle". the powertrain warranty was extended an additional 20,000 mile over oem warranty with the certified status. we took the truck home and my son started driving the truck. roughly a month later, we both notice the clear coat on the driver's door began to peel in a small spot. we took the truck into the dealership at it's 1st service interval and asked the service department about the spot. the service manager said that this was a very unusual situation, and unfortunately since the original 36,000 mile warranty had expired there was nothing they could do. after an another month had passed, we noticed the spot on the door had grown larger, and there were additional spots popping up on various spots on the truck. i personally took the vechicle to the dealer and once again they indicated this was an isolated incident and chevrolet currently wasn't experiencing and issues with their paint and clear coat process. my son went to college this fall, and upon his return from college i saw the spots of clear coat continue to increase in size and number. i recently went online and clicked several chevrolet forums regarding the fallibility of their paint and clear coat. i was amazed at the numerous complaints about their paint and clear coat. this wasn't an isolated incident as the dealer indicated but one that involves many trucks and cars that chevrolet produces during the years of 2013-2015. can there be something done regarding this matter. i am aware that this isn't a safety issue per say; however, we have a problem that chevrolet isn't willing to acknowledge or repair.
Traveling appx. 60 mph ct rte 8 when deer appeared swerved to avoid direct impact lost steering control struck unknown went airborne landed hard struck unknown no injuries however no airbag deployment either occurred 4/07/17 appx. 2200 hrs youthful driver w/one passenger both seatbelted suffered front end & subframe damage causing motor to move toward cabin currently at body shop to determine repairablity.
My 2014 chevy silverado has less than 36000 miles on it and has severe rust and corrosion issues throughout the entire frame. metal is flaking off the flame in large pieces and support elements have significant rust inside and outside. the rest of the vehicle looks brand new. i contacted chevy and they told me it was a known issue and take it to the dealer. the dealer inspected it and said that since none of the corrosion or rust was not "through" meaning they could stick their finger through a hole, it was not covered. they offered to replace the frame at my cost. this is severe rust. it is not simple surface rust expected on vehicle. it is flaking off and would take significant labor to grind/brush and repair. the frame as it is now is a safety issue and i cringe every time i hit a pothole. i fear for my safety and for the safety of my occupants and fellow drivers if the frame were to collapse while driving due to poor construction and severe rust. i informed the dealership of this asking how flaking rust on the main frame and support members was not an issue and was told it was "minor" rust.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that while performing a tire rotation on the vehicle, the contact became aware of extensive surface rust to the under carriage of the vehicle. eagle chevrolet located at 1330 old country rd, riverhead, ny 11901, (631) 494-3812, was contacted and the contact was informed that the surface rust was normal. the contact was concerned that the rust proofing was insufficient. the manufacturer was not contacted or made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 17,000... ...updated 11/15/17 *bf updated 11/28/2017*js
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while operating the vehicle in the rain, rain water leaked from the onstar antenna into the cabin of the vehicle. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 45,000.
The condenser unit has cracked and come away for the structural housing causing the unit to leak freon meaning that the a/c does not work. this is a design fault for the 2014 chevrolet silverado models through gm/chevrolet and currently there is a national back order on the part (nr. 84211191). this shows that there are a large number of people experiencing this problem and as things stand chevrolet cannot even give me an estimate as to when the part will become available again. i feel as though this should be grounds enough for some sort of reimbursement / recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the entire subframe was rusted and corroded. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (denooyer chevrolet located in albany, new york) who applied a wax rust proof coating to the frame, but the rusting continued to progress. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who informed the contact that the wax rust proof coating was a temporary remedy and would eventually wear off. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the contact was informed by the manufacturer that a powder coating was being applied to only newer vehicles to prevent the rusting from occurring. the failure mileage was 29,000. *bf consumer stated the vehicle was sent to an authorized chevy dealership for "rust proofing" of frame back in dec. 2016. body shop manager notified me that this was a "band aid" to the problem in 2014 chevy silverado. during manufacturing of vehcle i was told gm puts a "wax" on frame. once the "wax" wears off, the metal on the frame is exposed to the harmful enviromental agents (salt, water, dirt). after 6 months of "rust proofing," rust re-appeared on frame. this frame will not last 3-5 years. very dangerous and un-safe. updated 10/4/18*jb
The frame has massive amounts of rust. front to back even reaching up into the cab at the rear seat mounts. only 22,000 miles. never seen this much aggressive rust on such a new vehicle. fear it could effect the vehicle systems, brakes or frame integrity, seat mounts. bought the vehicle used in june 2016 (private party) and did not realize the extent of the issue. on brief visual inspection looked like normal michigan rust. it's so new and the body is perfect didn't think i had to look into rust issues. checked car fax for recalls and accidents.
From day 1 had rust issues on frame. i found out rhere was a tsb on this .i took it to get fixed ,but i am not happy with the way it was done.rust is still on frame where bumpers attach and other areas of frame not accessible.they did not recall this issue.they did not extend the warranty.there are many complaints online about this issue.they are aware if a problem and hope many owners don't realize it.i told a friend of mine about frame issue as he has one to .they extended his warranty and are going to take the box off truck to repair it.i wasn't offered that as a matter of fact i argued with them about not taking bumpers off to repair it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the entire frame was severely rusted including the cross bars and wheel wells. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 32,000. the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the entire frame was corroded. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 16,000.
Frame rust has developed on rails under bed. the protective wax coating is falling off, one section is about three inches. rust has developed in the tubes of the frame and on areas connected to the frame. i have had the truck for about a year and about 12,000 miles. the rust has been progressively getting worse.
Paint and frame coating defective.
My 84 year old father hit a deer on the right front bumper of his 2014 chevy silverado ltz going 55 mph on october 30, 2014. all of the air bags deployed except for the drivers air bag. the drivers air bag did not deploy. in addition to the drivers air bag not deploying, there was structural damage to the right front passenger side bumper. my father took his vehicle to james wood motors decatur, 2111 s hwy 287, decatur, tx 76234, to get an estimate on repairing the vehicle. they talked him into trading his 2014 chevy silverado ltz wrecked vehicle for a 2015 chevy silverado ltz. [xxx] told my father that they would be salvaging the vehicle, or something like that, and they encouraged him to trade in his wrecked vehicle because the trade in value would be affected by the crash. keep in mind that my father had a long relationship with them with trading in vehicles for newer ones and they knew that my father was very concerned with the trade-in value of his vehicle. they never discussed with my father the fact that the drivers air bag did not deploy. today, i ran a car fax check on my father's crashed vehicle and the report shows: no accidents reported, no structural damage reported, no air bag deployment reported. also, the car fax report shows a new owner from grand prairie, texas, that purchased the vehicle on 3-36-2015. i think it's outrageous that james wood motors decatur took advantage of my father because of his age, encouraged him to trade in his wrecked vehicle and then they turned around and sold the vehicle to someone without reporting any of the damage to the vehicle and the fact that the drivers air bag did not deploy. someone needs to look into this. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Upon delivery of new 2014 crew cab silverado, with 21 miles, frame rust was occurring and coating was peeling off. gm is aware of issue and has a tsb, #pi0564d, but dealerships are reluctant or unwilling to address the issue. i live in the north east with heavy road salting and before the truck has even seen wet pavement, the frame is rusting due to manufacturer defects during the assembly. i am currently unable to get satisfactory repair with the dealership where i purchased the vehicle. gm can not claim, like they want to, that environmental issues causing rust are not covered by the warranty. this frame rust is occurring at the factory due to assembly line defects probably related to not washing/treating the frames prior to coating them. *tr
When the truck reaches a speed over 35 mph the steering wheel, the seat, and the entire truck has a vibration. i live in east tennessee. i purchased the truck in georgia. it is about a three hour drive from where i purchased the truck to my home. on the drive home i noticed the vibration right away. i thought it may be a tire balance issue so i continued the trip home. the next day i talked with the local dealer and was informed i need 500 miles on the truck before they will work a vibration issue. when i took the truck for service a few days later i was informed that several trucks have this same issue and gm does not know what to do about the issue. the dealer balanced the tires and told me that is all they can do about the vibration. through searching the internet and talking with other dealers i have found that may parts have been replaced with no help. drive shafts, axle shafts, wheels and tires have been replaced and rear ends have been rebuilt. nothing seems to help. most dealers have worked this issue on several trucks. if this vibration is coming from any part of the drive train or suspension and the part has a catastrophic failure it can cause serious injury or possibly death. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 80 mph, the vehicle vibrated intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 7,000.
At less than 2,000 miles, the frame and rear axle is rusting through the "protective" wax coating. where my dealer placed jack points when jacking up the vehicle during pre-sale inspection, there are distinct rust marks in the shape of the jack point. the axle has rust spots increasing in size every week. the frame has rust spots increasing in size and apparent severity every week. the wax coating is often found in flakes under my truck in my garage in the morning. i had a 2011 silverado that, at 22k, had zero frame rust and it was exposed numerous times to chicago and minneapolis winters, including the heavy road salt. this new truck has never left georgia since its purchase. i am concerned about the structural integrity of this vehicle over time if the frame will rust as much as it has in less than 2,000 miles. what will it look like at 50k mi.? *tr
This vehicle has a vibration that is felt thru out the steering wheel, floor pan and accelerator pedal. it causes the middle console to shake/vibrate. this has been an ongoing issue that i believe will cause catastrophic failure in the vehicle at a later date. the dealership offered to let me trade it in on another vehicle at my full expense, and states that my vehicle is acting as designed. gm refuses to address the problem. *tr
While traveling with the vehicle cruise control set at 45mph the vehicle dropped from 6 cylinders to 4 cylinders. when the vehicle was in 4 cylinder mode and it had to accelerate the entire passenger compartment started to violently vibrate (sorry but that??s the best description i can give) almost lost control of the vehicle. this is a recurring problem chevrolet so far has changed the tires, realigned the catalytic converter, replaced the exhaust clamps, attempted to replace the entire exhaust system. none of these have yet to resolve the problem. this occurs at all speeds with or without cruise control engaged. *tr
Frame rails are showing rust. also rear axle is rusting. *tr
2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. consumer writes in regards to driver seat controls moved to a different position and outside mirrors collapsed while driving. *smd the consumer stated the incident happened twice. also, the doors were not as tight as advertised, as water and salt entered the vehicle. *jb
I bought this truck brand new on february 13, 2014 with approximately 33 miles on the odometer. on april 23, 2014, i noticed that the black wax coating on the frame was peeling off and rust was developing in several locations. i am currently in the process of trying to get this repaired through the dealership that i purchased the truck from. in the mean time i've been inspecting other 2014 silverados on dealership lots and i noticed rust developing on those frames in various locations as well. after consulting with a dealership service department, i have found out that there is a service bulletin out regarding this problem. in my opinion though a brand new truck should not be rusting like this and i have serious concerns regarding the long term quality and safety of this vehicle as a result. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving approximately 20 mph, both front doors on the vehicle began to shake. the failure only occurred when the wind increased. the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 2,000.
Severe rust over entire vehicle frame. black paint flaking off everywhere and severe corrosion where wiring harnesses ground to frame. wax coating almost does not exist. *js
The rear window of my 2014 ltz double cab reflects the climatic control panel lights back to the rear view mirror during night driving. the reflection is a severe distraction during night time driving, especially when no one is immediately behind you with their lights on. gm is aware of problem and is doing nothing about it. i've had the dealership (lotspeich in warrensburg, mo 64093) in contact with gm. gm direction is to turn down the instrument panel lights, that would be off, to reduce/eliminate reflection. this is a manufacturing/design issue causing, what i believe to be, a safety concern. to keep this reflection from distracting me i turn my mirror down, shifting the reflection, problem is i know can't see out of the rear view mirror. *js
