Takata recall - 2014 chevy silverado ltz about 6 months ago now, i have been having this problem and now i have had enough! when turning on a low speed the steering wheel locks and seems to bounce back. i don't know what causes this. it use to happen maybe 1-2 times every month while parking in my drive way. use to be always in my driveway only. and now that thanksgiving passed and i was doing some shopping with my kids; from 11/22/18-now 11/25/18, it has locked on me about 15 times! once turning left on a green light on a busy city street, it locked and wouldn't turn was going straight with my kids inside and my wife driving! another time parking at store parking lots with cars in front and behind me! and just now 7:26 p.m. it locked 5 times while parking! i took it to get it checked out back in august i believe and all they told me was nothing is wrong. i can not keep driving this or having my wife drive my kids and risk loosing them! you need to fix this now! please! i believe there is a recall going arround; i believe the recall number is 17v414000 a lot of what it says sounds exactly what happens to my truck.

My truck has lost power 3 times while driving. fortunately no accidents have happened as a result, but i no longer feel safe in the vehicle. first occurrence, i was in motion backing into my driveway. second occurrence, i was leaving my neighborhood and turning right when i lost all power and drifted into traffic. third occurrence, i was turning right into my neighborhood and ended up on my neighbors front lawn. i took it to a local chevrolet dealership for repairs, and the problem persists. they made 3 attempts at fixing, i paid each time, and nothing has been repaired.

I started my truck and while in a parked position the dashboard displays a message regarding power-steering has been reduced, please drive with caution. i googled it and notice that my particular model has a known issue and re-called. i called chevrolet customer service and they said since my vin # has no open recalls, they couldn't assist and that i have the option to take it to a service shop and pay out of pocket to fix. it is frustrating that with all the information online i couldn't get any help on this matter.

My headlights are flickering. when steering, headlights dim. when using turn signals, headlights dim. power steering randomly cuts out in parking lots. trailer brake service warning came up on instrument screen. i read ground g218 is causing a short and i removed the insulation under the nut that could cause high resistance and it fixed everything for about 3 weeks but the lights and steering problem is still happening. dealer thought maybe trailer brake control system but i did not have them replace, instead found g218 issues online. no open recalls. sounds similar to other complaints. no codes. no issue with battery or alternator.

At start up the radio and info screen on dash between the rpm and speedometer was reset as if the negative battery cable was removed and replaced. the power steering died out later on a turn onto my block and was on and off as it jerked out of my hands while parallel parking. start up the next day and the reset was back with the wheel free to turn for now. i haven't moved the truck for fear of the steering going out again. truck has 44,450 miles.

Having issues with power steering going out lights flickering dash lights flickering cruse control turning off bluetooth shutting off stabletrac coming up on dash and other problems flashing on and off had my head lights go off and on

I recently purchased a 2014 chevy silverado ltz used at a dealership here in atlanta, ga. everything seemed to be fine and i was very pleased with the truck until one day when slowly turning left the power steering shut off, and then caused the truck to stall in incoming traffic. as this is a huge safety concern, i brought my truck to my local jim ellis chevrolet service department in chamblee, ga. they recognized that there was a recall in these trucks for this already and said that they had the issue resolved. this has now happened again three times, most recently this morning at 6:30am on 10/30/18. i have dropped off my truck again at the same dealer, but i fear they will have the same, "unable to re-create" result as last time. on the recall websites i have researched, it seems the recall number is: 17v414000. please advise, as i am not sure what to do with this issue. i have a baby on the way and would feel unsafe driving my truck with him inside. thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *cc *tr

Truck dies in the middle of the intersection nearly causing an injury. driver has to get out of the truck in said busy intersection to try to figure out the problem, because truck would not turn on. this is not a battery issue. research has proven hundreds of other people are having these same issues with this particular truck.truck dies several times a day while turning or pulling into a driveway or parking spot. electricity glitches when driving down the road if a bump is hit or if the brakes are pressed mildly hard. as for the date below, it happens literally every day. the cause for complaint is the truck died in the middle of a busy intersection nearly causing an accident.

Vehicle looses power when turning, radio screen flashes on/off, stabilitrak error displays on screen, total loss of power to vehicle while on the road while driving while in motion. this specific vin# was involved in a recall for the exact issue last year and was repaired but is still functioning as per manufacturer agreement. this vehicle is unsafe to be on the road as is. took it back to autonation gulf fwy to get a diagnostic they claimed it was the neg batt terminal, i got that fixed still having the same issue. gm nor chevy want to help with this issue. i guess they are waiting for someone to die before they take this issue seriously . i don't see paying for all the repairs out of pocket if i just bought this vehicle aug 28, 2018 and was never informed that it had been involved in a recall.

Just purchased truck used less than 2 weeks in truck was throwing warning for stabletrack ac would stop working radio would stop working then loaded up the family to take a little trip about 30 miles away when you got to the destination going slow on a right turn truck violently whips steering wheel out of hand and stalls restart a truck and proceeded forward within 5 minutes it repeated the above very dangerous have a 4 year old the halo around in this truck and i fear for our lives

I lose electric power steering while turning hard left sometimes my lights flicker when i use my left directional signals at times after a hard left turn engine stalls talk to my dealer the dealer says he cannot help me with this problem because there are so many different things that could be involved i have 88,000 miles on this truck and the dealer says if he tries to attempt to repair this i would be responsible to pay him he cannot tell me how many hours it would take. on two or three websites i have found one is a gm website many people have complained about this issue.

At lower speeds, the power steering appears to stop working. this has caused near crashes. random times.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving or reversing at 5 to 10 mph, the brake pedal failed to depress. the failure made it difficult to stop the vehicle. there was also a loss of power steering ability at the same low speeds. the failures occurred intermittently. the dealer (chelsea chevrolet buick, 2038 mckernan dr, chelsea, mi 48118, (734) 475-8663) stated that they knew about the failures, but there was no recall. the dealer stated that they could help with the power steering failure since it could still be covered by the warranty. the manufacturer suggested that the contact take the vehicle to the dealer to be evaluated. the failure mileage was 70,000. *tt consumer stated power steering failed again since this report. updated 11/29/18*jb *bf the consumer stated the recall work was completed in september but did not fix the defect.

The vehicle was driving around a curve at approximately 45 mph when the steering locked. the driver is unclear if the breaks worked or not, but he ended up stepping on the gas pedal accidentally. he hit a tree head on and totaled the truck. he noticed the audio system lost the signal from his iphone and began playing the local radio station at the same time. the iphone was connected via an auxiliary cord. the driver is familiar with a loss of power steering and is quite sure the steering locked and was unable to be moved even with considerable effort. the driver was taken to a hospital by ambulance and is lucky to have only minor injuries. prior to this, recall #17276 was completed on the truck, but after that it did have an electrical incident where all electrical components went haywire, blinking & beeping & turning on & off, then everything went dead, including the steering. the truck was towed to the dealership who replaced the battery & found no other problems. we kept the battery they replaced, had it tested & it was found to be fine. the dealership refunded the cost of the new battery, but offered no solution to the electrical problem.

Truck stalls when turning sharply at low speed (like into a driveway). sometimes the vehicle will not start afterward and the key fob won't work. total loss of electrical power. multiple warnings about anti theft, stabili-trac, etc.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the stability traction control warning indicator flashed intermittently and various other warning indicators illuminated. in addition, the entertainment system flickered and the vehicle stalled several times due to a sudden loss of power. in addition, the electronic power steering seized each time the failure occurred. the dealer (ed bozarth chevrolet, 5501 drexel rd, las vegas, nv 89130, (702) 967-5500) was notified of the failures. the vehicle was kept at the dealer for weeks. the dealer indicated that the vehicle had a ground point g218 failure with a high negative resistance concerning the battery cable. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was not available.

The steering binds up especially at low speeds, and at times an audible clunk can be heard when turning left. it has been determined that the steering rack & pinion unit failed where the passenger side inner tie rod connects to the gear.

Product safety recall 17276 loss of steering assist -- my truck is not involved in this recall, but i am having the exact issues described in the recall, sudden loss and return of eps assist. this happens at low speeds when turning or backing, both forward and reverse motions. i am also having issues with the cruise control shutting off intermittently when activating the turn indicator to change lanes. i understand that this may be related to this recall, as the electrical software issues can cause other electrical systems to become temporarily disabled, such as the radio, stabilitrack, dic, chimes, door-lock cycling, air conditioning, or cruise control. also, when the turn indicator is activated and the cruise control shuts off, the dash lights also flicker. i have already had this truck in to the dealer once to fix this, and they refused to run the recall because my truck was not in the recall group. instead they charged me over $1,000 to replace a steering wheel position sensor, which i now doubt was the problem since the issues with loss of steering and disabling of cruise control have returned. i just want this fixed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated that the steering wheel was extremely tight when turning it in either direction. the dealer (kingman chevrolet buick, 3730 stockton hill rd, kingman, az 86409, 928-757-4041) diagnosed that a part on the middle shaft deteriorated and caused the u joint to fail. the contact stated that the u joint was freezing and lacked lubrication, which caused the steering failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were not available. **tr *tr

Vehicle has loss of steering, stabilitrac and electrical and engine failure momentarily under 1000 rpm. not an everyday problem, but is becoming more frequent and had recall for steering control done

I have brought my truck to the chevrolet in union city georgia for them to repair the recall 3 times this year and they keep saying they reset the computer esp and yet the problem still occur every blue moon the head light flicker and dims when i press the brakes the interior light will dim and head lights also. on 8/19/18 coming home from work while parking my truck in my driveway while turning. it cut off and steer wheel reverse back and this been going on for some months i have to cut the truck off and back on again to get it to act right and if i drive for a week one of them days it will eventually do it again i go to work early in the morning and when my headlights are on i notice they dim once?s i put my feet on the brakes or turn on the turn signals it dims. now when it comes back while driving i place my foot on the brakes and the radio and dashboard interior light dims and i?m real cautions when i turn that when sometimes it want to shift off. i just want the situation fix besides that it's a good truck i?m just paranoid while driving it some days i also have videos of it acting up on since the dealership claim that can't find the issue. *tr

While driving vehicle while turn itself off with no explanation. this has happened multiple times in the last few months. it has increased since i got the last recall done. this is extremely dangerous as it has shut off while i was turning across lanes and died in the middle of the intersection. the truck shuts completely off and has to be restated by turning the key.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while reversing out of the driveway, the contact heard a thump sound and the electric power steering (eps) failed. the failure occurred after the vehicle was taken to great river chevrolet gmc (264 devereux dr, natchez, ms 39120). the vehicle was taken to the dealer and kept for a month. the contact paid to have the rack and pinion replaced. the contact requested the used rack and pinion, but the dealer would not give him the part. the contact had to pay for the repairs even though he had a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 17v414000 (steering). the dealer stated that the rack and pinion was not related to the recall and charged the contact for the repair. the failure mileage was 62,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving various speeds, a sudden chime sounded. next, the power steering and power brakes suddenly malfunctioned and the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. also, the brake pedal had to be depressed with force to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and an unknown dealer were notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 54,000. the vin was unknown.

Loss of electrical power to the vehicle while at slow speed. truck shows multiple warnings, i.e. stablitrak, reduce steering, window, etc. temporary loss of steering while driving; wheel tightens up and/or jerks hard. veh engine remains on during most occurrences but other times, engine shuts down completely. cause; 218 ground wire becomes loose and nut comes completely off post (see pics). solution: reinstall 218 ground wire to post.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 12 mph, the steering wheel seized and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not informed of the failure. the failure mileage was 32,000.

At low speeds such as in parking lots, especially after reversing or turning the vehicle will occasionally experience the following issue: display will say that stabilitrack is on, advise that power steering is reduced. the air conditioning, radio and other electric systems will then shut off. power steering is cut off along with brake pressure. on multiple occasions the engine has also shut off requiring the vehicle to be put into park or neutral to restart the engine. if this occurred on the highway it would certainly cause a major incident.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while pulling out of a driveway, the steering wheel lost power without warning. the vehicle was taken to the sun chevrolet dealer (2939 washington rd, mcmurray, pa 15317, 724-655-4331) where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to cover sixty percent of the repair cost. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

The electric power steering abruptly went out as per illumination on the dash. the radio, a/c, and inside lights went off too. this is exactly what the recall 17v-414 states. after calling gm, i found out this recall was performed on 11/2017 by the prior owner( i purchased truck in april 2018). despite the recall being done, the truck is doing the exact same thing. gm stated that the recall has been closed and they would only pay for the part not the labor! there is no part-it's a software uodate/reboot. this is a major safety issue since this effects the steering of the truck. this could cause me to loose control of the vehicle and have a wreck. obviously, the initial repair did not take. it is unfathomable that i am to be financially responsible for a recall that was not properly done the first time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 65 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. the vehicle was able to coast to the side of the road. the contact powered off the engine. the vehicle was restarted, but the steering wheel was difficult to turn. the contact was able to drive the vehicle home. the vehicle was taken to sands chevrolet of glendale (5418 grand ave, glendale, az 85301) where the contact was informed that the vin was not included in a recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer stated that the warranty was expired and did not assist. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while operating the vehicle at various speeds, the steering wheel vibrated and shook. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (staffilino chevrolet inc, 900 s 4th st, martins ferry, oh) where it was diagnosed that the electronic steering mechanism was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 39,868.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving approximately 20 mph, the power steering assist warning indicator illuminated, the instrument panel became dark, and the steering wheel was difficult to turn. the steering wheel returned to normal on its own after a few minutes. the failures were experienced several times. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and provided the contact with case number: 8-45-0947295. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v414000 (steering). the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the failure mileage was 49,000.

Steering assist stabilizer reduced error on dashboard and vehicle shuts down.

Truck shut off at low speed & want turn all most reck mash button on steering wheel and it cuts off motor & steering & stereo & ac i'm kind of scary about driving it

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 10 mph, the steering wheel was turned and the vehicle lost power. there were no warning indicators illuminated during the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (stonebriar chevrolet, 9950 tx-121, frisco, tx 75035), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 81,600.

Numerous occasions this vehicle will have issues when turning? on 5 different occasions this vehicle while in motion on a highway will suddenly turn off completely on its own and then suddenly turn back on after i release the steering wheel. this has happened while driving 75mph on hwy i-35 while i was changing lanes.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving at an unknown speed, the steering wheel seized. there were no warning indicators illuminated during the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (rotolo chevrolet, 16666 s highland ave, fontana, ca 92336) and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 17v414000 (steering), but the vin was not included in the recall. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 122,000. the vin was not available.

Knock in steering when making left turns. rack and pinion has a knock

When turning into parking lot today at low speed, electrical system went crazy, screen flashed power steering failure, stabilitrac failure, doors locked and unlocked and engine died. restarted and was fine driving forward and repeated failures again when turning to park in parking space. it is fortunate this was in a parking lot and not on interstate or other main road or while turning at a traffic light. there was a recall in fall of 2017 for power steering that was repaired at dealership upon notification. when i contacted the dealership, the service department supervisor advised it sounded as if there was a poor connection of a battery cable. the battery was replaced just a few months ago. it seems to me that if a it's a battery cable connection issue, then gm has another safety problem they need to address since i've read numerous other complaints with the exact same issues, and in my opinion, there must be a manufacturer defect if battery cables just come loose for no apparent reason. this needs to be fixed before someone is very seriously injured or killed as a result of this dangerous condition. gm seems to be aware of the other reported issues and has taken no measures to correct it. maybe all of us who own their vehicles should file a class action lawsuit and they might get off their [xxx] and do something! i certainly won't hesitate to file a civil complaint for product liability if a family member is hurt as a result of their continued negligence. parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*cc

While conducting low speed manuveurs radio and dash flashes off, then engine shuts off while vehicle is still in drive causing loss of steering assist and brake assistance. dash and radio turn back on and warning messages stating stabilitrak disabled, steering assistance reduced, 2 keys programmed, open and close drivers window, and park assist disabled are displayed. dealership thinks this could be due to corrosion in the power distribution box and recommended replacement.

While driving down the road and turning the steering wheel, the steering wheel snatches away from your hand. when doing so, the locks unlock and lock, then the stabilitrack light comes on. this has happened several times and twice the vehicle completely shut off. luckily my wife was turning into the driveway when it did because it shut off and the steering wheel locked. she is scared to death to drive this vehicle and i owe way too much money to trade it in. i've taken it to my dealership here and they tried reprogramming it due to a recall but that did not fix it. when i called to ask for assistance, they replied that it would be a minimum of 1 1/2 hour labor to diagnose it and that it $110 an hour. i've noticed while looking on the internet that this is a common problem with the year model truck. this is a major safety factor and needs to be addressed asap before something happens to one of my family members. people on the internet state that it is a grounding problem and the manufacturer knows about the problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving 10 mph, the steering wheel seized and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to fairway chevrolet truck mega store (3100 e sahara ave, las vegas, nv 89104, (702) 948-7865) where it was diagnosed that the battery wire failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the failure was due to a software malfunction in the electrical system. the failure mileage was 77,000.

Vehicle loses power steering during turns at low speeds and will also turn vehicle off. if vehicle does not turn off, vehicle will display "redused power steering assist" and a stabilitrak warning. if vehicle turns off, vehicle will not turn on right away and dashboard display will not turn on when key is in the on position. after attempts to turn vehicle on, the smell of burning wires is smelled in the cab with no obvious electrical fire.

While turning my truck all electronics want to flash my locks will lock /unlock,my lights will flicker or flash, park assist unavailable will pop up on dashboard and my truck will shut off while im trying to turn

My vehicle has completely lost power steering and power twice while in the middle of driving on busy roads. once by myself and the second with my four grandchildren in the car. i have taken it to the dealership after first incident paid 300 dollars for them to look at it and they told me couldn't find anything wrong. then it happend again the second time in a busy intersection with my four young grandchildren in the car. there was a recall in 2017 for the same problem for this year vehicle but they are claiming mine isn't under that recall and refusing to fix it. both times it has happend the power steering completely goes out and the truck power shuts down and locks up anything connected to the truck. ( for example my phone was charging and it locked up my phone after it did this) i am concerned about my safety while driving this vehicle and cannot get the chevy(general motors) dealership to help me. they are claiming not to have known about the recall in 2017 at all. i've only had this truck for about a year and it has done this to me now 2 times in the last couple of months. both times in very busy areas where my truck stalls and looses power steering.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while attempting to drive the vehicle, the power steering assist, trailer brake, and stabilitrak warning indicators illuminated. when the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, it operated normally. the vehicle was driven to an unknown dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall. no further assistance was provided. the approximate failure mileage was 74,186.

My truck on a few different occasions has had the stability of arming come on out of nowhere and go off. when i back my truck in my drive way a couple times when i am going backwards and turning i have had the truck almost die due to the draw from the powerstering pump as i turn the steering wheel. i have had the engine die once while backing it in the driveway leaving me stranded in the street for a minute while the truck seemed to re-boot. when i am in park at night if the truck is running in park with the lights on and i turn the steering wheel back and forth the light will really dim and pulse as the steering wheel goes back and forth. with these issues i hope that this doesn't happen at an intersection or somewhere with more traffic and cause an accident that i have no control over.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving approximately 25 mph, the steering ability became more difficult and the 'stability track" message flashed. the contact stopped in a parking lot and turned off the vehicle. after approximately two hours, the vehicle was restarted and operated normally. the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. the dealer was not contacted and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

Bought a used 2014 silverado 1500 4x4 with 22k miles and one previrus owner. i had no issues at first but the dealer made me aware of a recall gm had out where they would reprogram the power steering to prevent a possible issue of power steering loss at slow speeds. i took the truck in to the chevy dealer and had the "reprogram" done. after that i started having a popping in the steering column at extremely low speed or while stationary when the wheel was turned. a few months later the popping stopped and one evening i start my truck and the electric power steering is not working. the next day i start my truck and the power steering is working fine. i run an errand and as i'm coming home the power steering goes out while i'm turning at a slow speed also nearly causing a wreck with another car. dealer won't admit to the problem being a part of the recall because of the lift on my truck and then over quoted me by $500 for the fix ($2900 total and $2200 for the part). just had a new rack and pinion installed for $2535.11 and the part alone was $1859 from another dealer. the mechanic told me the part has since (the recall) been "remanufactured" which leads me to believe that gm realized there was a problem and they fixed it quietly on the assembly line rather than make it right with their customers.

The stabilitytrack will flash on and make the steering wheel very difficult to steer or while turning the steering wheel will jerk out of my hand and not let me maneuver the way i want to. at the same time the truck will briefly lose all power disabling everything. this has happened in parking lots as well as everyday city and highway driving and at all speeds from as slow as 5mph to as fast as 70mph. there has 2 times after this happens that i turn the truck off to try to restart it, the truck will be completely dead. not even the hazard lights will come on. there are other times where i will lose all power to my radio and driver info center and it stays black until i restart the truck a few times. i have taken it to the dealership now 4 separate times now and every time they say its something new. i have paid a little over $800 so far and it is still happening. i am now waiting to hear back from gm/chevy to see what they can do, but looking at what i have already dealt with it i am not optimistic. i have read other complaints about this and i am afraid that its only a matter of time that i will not be able to recover my steering and i will get in an accident with my family in the truck.
