Driving down a paved road at apx 40 miles an hour and heard a loud sound like a shot gun going off, my driver side seat belt clamped down and the flashers on the truck turned on. startled i pulled over and had to struggle to get the seat belt off. had to shut off and restart vehicle, now seat both driver and passenger side won't work, they are locked in position. after contacting local dealer i was told i needed a new airbag control module and i had to replace both seat belts. i am bruised from the seat belt and very happy there were no other vehicles around as the disorientation from the event very well could have caused an accident.

Moving my truck from the back yard to the front yard, traveling less than 3 mph, no one on the passenger side. the passenger side air bag deployed first and then about 2 seconds later the drivers side airbag deployed. the chevy emblem on the steering wheel embedded itself into my right hand nearly breaking my thumb. after coming to stop, i noticed the seat belt pretensioners on both sides had also been deployed and they are now locked up tight. the truck did not hit anything. i say it like this because the chevrolet dealership would not believe me and told me it was impossible and that it was my fault. i want my truck fixed because i no longer have any safety features. chevy said they will fix it for $4,000.00. i say the control module went bad and it is their fault and it should be fixed for free. *tr

I work for the missouri department of natural resources. we own a 2007 chevy silverado. while this vehicle was sitting, parked, with the ignition off, the seat belt retractor unit unexpectedly exploded causing both seatbelts to instantly retract and lock up. there were no injuries, but one of our staff was standing directly next to the truck with the door open when this happened. he said the loud explosion sounded like a gunshot. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet silverado 1500. while driving approximately 30 mph on normal road conditions, the seat belt retractor housing unit exploded unexpectedly. the failure caused a loud popping noise during the explosion. immediately, the driver pulled over into a parking lot to inspect the vehicle. onstar customer service responded with an indication of a front end crash; however, there was no crash and the air bags did not deploy. the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel and remained lit until the engine was turned off. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing and they stated that the failure was related to corrosion in the wiring system. the parts for the repair were unavailable and the vehicle has not been repaired. the vin and mileages were unknown.

As i shifted my position in the seat slightly on the front passenger side the seat belt locked & i tried to pull it a little it became locked.i tried to get it to release instead it began to even tighter and began to put a lot of pressure on my chest i panicked and had to grab for the release latch as it continued to struggle to breath, once i got to belt off , i had to re-adjust it & secure it again this became a issue that i felt needed to be reported to gm by which i open the glove box and located their number from the owners manual an filed a verbal complaint .i called back several times as each event happened to leave what i thought would be a paper trail but they never did any thing about it continues to be a ongoing issue that gm want to brush off , so i feel necessary to file this en light of how gm is putting our lives at risk over money, we'll not be taken advantage of ever again ; dedicated owners "no-more". *tr
