We have classified the 9 complaints from 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
I was replacing two bad o2 sensors and felt something wet on my fingers, that smelled like gas. when i started the truck to move it i notice a drip trail off gas. i took the truck to my mechanic and was advised that the gas lines were rusted/rotted through and needed to be replaced. i have never had to replace gas lines or brake lines on another vehicle. this is very unusual. i think these gas lines and the brake lines i reported earlier were made of inferior material. i do feel extremely fortunate that i did not crash or catch on fire. *tr
While leaving my driveway i went to stop , pedal went to floor, car almost had accident with oncoming snow plow truck. even though vehicle has low mileage dealer said warranty was up. front brake lines were rusted through. had them replaced. just recently i checked under vehicle & it appears the same is happening to the rear brake lines & fuel lines. rossi chev. my dealer told me this is a common problem. something is not right with this very dangerous problem. *tr
While traveling to work i attempted to stop and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. i was able to stop by using only the emergency brake but only after approx. 100 feet. i was able to drive the truck home by using four wheel low and allowing the engine and transmission to keep me at a safe speed. i then contacted my mechanic who lives right down the road and he came up and looked at the truck. he told me the brake line had ruptured and additionally all the brake lines should be replaced along with the fuel line that appears to be badly corroded. i then contacted the dealership where i purchased the truck and was told that they have had no issues with the brake lines on these trucks and there was nothing they could do to help me. i then looked on the internet and was shocked to find out that there has been a lot of issues with these trucks and the ntsb was looking into a recall . *tr
Leaving my property i stopped to close gate. i smelled gas, looked under at fuel tank and fuel line was spraying fuel onto muffler. i removed truck bed and found animal (squirrel) had chewed hole in plastic pressure fuel line at tank connection. plastic not appropriate for high pressure fuel line. i have pictures of damaged line. *tr
After returning to the truck from an errand i started the engine and, upon depressing the brake pedal to put the vehicle in gear, the brake pedal went to the floor. no warning lamps of any sort were illuminated prior to the brake pedal going to the floor. pumping of the pedal did not produce any resistance. after a few minutes the brake fluid level warning lamp came on. brake fluid was added but did not result in any resistance from the pedal. had to have the truck towed home where it then sat over-night. the next morning i observed a large wet spot on the driveway just below the driver's side door. i looked underneath and saw that all of the brake lines going into or out of the abs module were severely corroded and at least one had obviously been leaking brake fluid. the truck was towed to a chevrolet dealer. i arrived as they were raising the truck on a lift. evidently they also added some brake fluid because quite a large puddle was forming on the shop floor below where the brake lines enter the abs module. the technician, the service consultant, and i all observed the rusted brake lines, and fluid was literally dripping from one that had obviously burst. the dealer advised that gm does not make replacement steel brake lines so all the lines would need to be hand fabricated by the technician. dealer also advised that the abs module may have to be replaced because of how corroded the brake line fittings are (fittings are steel, abs module is aluminum) where they screw into the module. we also observed that the fuel lines were severely corroded. i have owned many vehicles far older and with far more mileage and have never had to replace the steel brake lines. i believe the design is flawed (the routing and placement of lines and module) or the brake line material (steel, instead of stainless steel) is insufficient. i have photos and the old parts. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet trailblazer. while driving approximately 60 mph, the contact noticed that the driver side headlight failed. the contact replaced the bulb three different times but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics where the mechanic advised that the headlight wires were melted and the headlight assembly would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 98,000. updated 02/27/15*lj the dealer stated the consumers instrument cluster needs to be repaired. *tr
Vehicle speeds up, surges, then starts to buck and you get transmission lash. it happens at road and highway speeds of 45 or 55 mph, and can/does happen in od or in 3rd gear. (automatic transmission). i have had a third party "scan" the system, and i get "no" codes. check engine light does "not" come on. i am able to replicate the issue at will. the vehicle is a 2004 k1500 with 46,500 miles. its primary use since i purchased this vehicle new is to tow a 19 foot mastercraft from april to november. maintenance is performed by the manufactures' recommended guidelines. orginal tires, air and oil filters have been changed as needed. no aftermarket devices installed. i have had a couple of verbal encounters with chevy dealer service department. they seem to be clueless. but are willing to troubleshoot at my expense, plus costs of all parts and service hours. this could $1000.00 or more....very frustrating. this is a hazard, accident waiting to happen. i have seen several similiar issues on the internet blog sites, with no concrete answers. gm is scamming the public, and the gm service departments are passing the costs to the consumers. there should be a recall and a fix for this issue. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet silverado 1500 pickup truck. he stated the fuel pump on the vehicle failed. the dealer advised him that he could repair the vehicle for over $1,000 at the owner's expense. there were no recalls for the failure. no repairs were made to the vehicle to date. the contact felt as if the parts used to manufacture the fuel pump were defective. the vehicle was repaired by the contact. the failure and current mileages were under 77,779.
Fuel gauge failure. dashboard needle gauge sitting at the 5 o'clock position and not responsive. have not taken it in for repair yet. just happened. this is the second gm truck i've owned where the fuel gauge has broken. the other was a '97 jimmy. *tr
My 2004 chevy envoy has a crack in the neck of the fuel tank. the service engine soon light was on last year and i took it to thomas chevrolet in west chester, pa who replaced the gas cap. the light came back on and i out of frustration i waited until my inspection check to have it repaired. upon taking it to a local mechanic recently they replaced a solenoid which made the check engine light go off. however within a week it came back on. today i was told of the problem with the crack in the fuel tank after they performed more diagnostic tests. this seems like it could be a problem from the manufacturer (gm) and also poses a safety issue. fuel can be smelled when standing outside the vehicle. i am concerned about the safety risk this could pose if this is a problem noted in other vehicles. my on-line research indicates the chevy trailblazer had issues with fuel tank cracks. i don't know what i could have done to prevent this problem or even cause it, therefore i would expect the dealership would be held accountable. *tr
Dt: the contact stated, the break pedal was positioned almost to the floor, making stopping difficult. also, there was a loud popping sound, (ba-bang) from the area of the fuel tank, within a few minutes of turning off the ignition. both issues have been addressed with the dealer and no solution was found for the breaks and changing the brand of fuel was suggested for the popping sound. both issues continue unresolved.
