Tl* the contact owns a 1999 chevrolet silverado 1500 (gmt800). while the vehicle was stationary, an abnormal odor was detected inside the cabin. the contact attempted to open the hood, but the latch failed to release the hood. also, flames were seen underneath the hood. the contact believed the fire originated from the fuse box, which burned the engine wire harness. the fire was extinguished by the fire department. a police report was filed. there were no injuries sustained. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was not destroyed. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was unknown.
1999 chevy silverado. on 1/21/11 i pulled the manual release lever to release the driver's side seat and load material into the extended cab of my pickup. a plastic piece with metal components inside the track (quoted from dealer as a seat adjuster) fell out of the right side track. my driver's side seat would not and continues not to lock into place, causing me to have to drive with one foot on the floorboard, and use the other to accelerate and brake continuously. when driven, the seat freely moves forward and backward with centrifugal force. note: the seatbelt is attached to the seat completely, not anchored to the sidewall and floor of the vehicle, so there is nothing to keep a driver from sliding all the way to the steering wheel if and when this piece fails. *tr
While driving at 55 mph rear tailgate opened, and the grocery items fell out on the highway. the original latch was replaced by the dealership about three years ago. *ak customer service advised gm had no reponsibility due to milage on vehicle. *tc
Rear tailgate latch assembly- tailgate fell while i was sitting on it. i could have been injured but was not. i had to have latch asm. replaced at a cost of $80.58 and cables broke also at a replacement cost of $46.49. *nm
Consumer stated that it would be hard to open the front driver's side door from the inside or outside. dealer notified. *ak
