Problems with 2001 Chevrolet S-10 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

While traveling on i85 at 70 mph in the far left lane passing a car i hit the rumble strips on the shoulder and the truck lost all power. i was able to move to the shoulder on the right side of the road. thinking i would not be able to restart the car to my surprise the car started back and i took off. i forgot about this until i recently heard of recent recalls. *tr

I was returning to el paso from kerrville at night when the headlamps dimmed and the truck lost power most traffic was going 80 -85. it was scary. *tr

Second complaint for same issue. dealer says that nothing can be done without vehicle backing up my claims, said to bring it in when vehicle is acting up. alternator type sound coming through radio, all lights flickering (dimming and brightening), truck stalled two times last night. truck gets nothing when you try to restart, no lights, no alarms, no engine click, no turn over...nothing at all. however, 20 minutes later truck will restart, with everything reset and clock reading 1:00. did this last night twice, once last week. called dealer today and they said that they couldn't test it because the computer reset itself when the truck shut down. bring it in when it acts up again.....even though there is no gaurantee that i will make it to the dealer without the truck stalling!!!!! that's comforting to know!!!!!! *nm

Alternator noise feeding through radio on occasion after turning vehicle off and restarting noise appears to go away. flicking lights on instrument panel and radio, started out of a parking place with this happening and the truck moved 5 feet before losing all power. truck would not start, no lights or alarms. left key in the ignition after 20 minutes all alarms and lights returned to normal and truck started with 1 turn of the key. can not take the truck to the shop until it is making the noise again, because they will tell me that they can't find anything wrong. what would have happened if the truck would have lost power when i was doing 65 miles an hour on my way home from work?*jb

My 2001 s10 died, and would not start, when i checked the battery, the positive battery cable fell off, along with part of the battery. corrosion on the positive battery cable, also caused the end of the cable to fall off easily. truck had to be towed home. new battery, and aftermarket battery cable treminal seems to have fixed the problem. truck only had 41000 miles on it, and already out of warranty.*ak

Battery...leaking acid out of the positive terminal. across leads and down into the wiring. replaced battery. truck would not start and given funny readings from gauges. *ak

Beginning december 2002, vehicle will unexpectedly lose power and lack accelerator response. code p0123 active and present indicating problem in the throttle position sensor circuit. sensor replaced and wiring inspected. problem persists.

Brake lights are not working, almost causing a rear vehicle crash.*ak

Gm and/or chevrolet has never attempted to contact me or deliver notices of recalls or any of the 84 service bulletins which are currently issued for this vehicle. i have complained to gm and the dealership but have received no answer or response at all. *nm

Engine has stalled four times unexpectedly while driving at any speed. dealership has replaced the following components: catalytic converter/ fuel pump/ oxygen sensor, and ignition switch. all repairs have failed to effectively remedy the problem. please provide any additional information / documentation.*ak

Electrical/ at times it will not start,engine turns over but no fire, fuel,ect.30min later it starts. engine/ burning 1qt. of oil per 1,000 miles, dealer knows, at this time nothing done,dealer states defective oil passeges

While driving 45 mph vehicle stalled without prior warning. dealer said there was a short in the wiring harness, had blown 2 fuses.*ak dealer rerouted the wiring harness so that it would not get as hot, stating that the vehicle would not likely stall again. *slc

Fuel monitoring system does not work properly, gauge does not give proper reading on how much fuel is in the tank, contacted dealer and dealer made 3 attempts to fix vehicle, dealer replaced gas sending unit and module cluster, but still has not corrected problem, also dealer found out all 2001 crew cab, s10 have same problem, dealer was told by manufacturer that vehicles had a program problem in the electronic module. *ak *slc

2001 chevy s-10 four cylinder automatic appeared to be dead. when key inserted and turned over there were no lights on dash. after it sat a few seconds i attempted to restart engine. all dash lights and gauges appeared to come on. the radio was reset to 1:00 as if all systems had went dead. there was a whining noise coming through into the cab of the truck and all the dash lights seemed to flicker. this has happened three times in the last four days. all instances are for just a few seconds and then everything appears to be okay on the restart except that the clock has always reset to 1:00. the last instance today occurred as i started the truck and left a parking space. i got about 50 feet and the vehicle died and coasted to a stop with all dash lights inoperative. when i turned key off for just a few seconds and then attempted to restart again everything came back on and the clock was reset to 1:00. *jb
