Problems with 2017 Chevrolet Malibu ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

On average, the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL and its various aspects after 45 723 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2017 Chevrolet Malibu

While trying to accelerate down the on-ramp onto a highway all of a sudden i lost power and could not exceed 40mph. i almost got sideswiped while trying to merge into traffic but couldn't gain speed. before abruptly pulling onto the shoulder the anti-skid and check engine lights came on along with a dash warning that stated :"engine power reduced". i took it to a vendor who searched the code my car produced and it was "p2138", which is "throttle/pedal position sensor/ switch d/ e voltage correlation". i searched this issue online to find a ton of similar if not the exact same issues with other chevy malibus.this is a very dangerous issue! i could have been seriously injured or killed.

For 3 months my 2017 chevy malibu has had the check engine light come on, and vehicle completely loose acceleration. at slow and high speeds with my 2 year old in the car. when the code is read it states it's the ecm p2138. this last time almost caused my vehicle to wreck with my family in the car. chevy has yet to handle the issue and like most cars it's not covered on warranty so because chevy has put out a faulty product we are being punished with high mechanical costs. this is not the first issue, i have have my chevy almost 3 years and have had it in for sensor issues reading the key fob and my car stranding me hours from home and not starting, and again for sensory issues putting the vehicle into park. when confronting chevy they state the issue with high cost to fix.

The car will not start sometimes. yesterday the lights and radio came on randomly while sitting in the garage with the fob in the house. randomly shuts down while driving. the last time it was half way through an busy intersection. had to push the car off the road.

I was leaving work and got 5 minutes into my drive and i had a warning light come on in my malibu while i was in motion driving straight in town. it indicated "electric steering issues" it was on for no more than 5-10 seconds then it turned off automatically. allthough this warning went away, i did not feel safe so i pulled over and started doing some research on my malibu. i did not find anything that made me feel unsafe to finish my drive home, but i do want to raise attention to this so it can be looked into so this doesnt happen to other people.

Engine power reduced. engine power reduced. at first it seemed to happen when it was raining, but on dry days no problems. the engine light comes on, and disappears a few hours later. the dealership acts as if they can't tell you anything once the warning and engine light turn off. lately it's been happening more frequently, so i was finally able to get it read. error codes p2138 and p2127, both referencing throttle/pedal position sensor. seems to be the only complaint i see on here. i also have read about law suits being filed regarding this as well.

Within 1 year i bought brand new hybrid malibu car from chevy dealer, i had experienced dead 12v battery. dealer replaced the battery which i paid even though i thought it should be within warranty. last night i experienced 3rd dead battery again after i parked the car for 7 hrs office work. the 2nd time dead battery occured was last june 2019 only, dealer also replaced the battry. its a 3rd time that i experience dead battery (stationary/parked) for brand new car 2017 hybrid malibu within 2 years. obviously its not the battery issue but its design of electrical system. before and during the battery issue, i got stabilitrak light on and steering assist in reduced alarm as well. i just want to vent my frustation with this brand new car. hope other car owners will benefit from this info. for 10 years i never had battry issue on my previous car. thanks

My car will randomly go into engine reduced power mode causing my car to drop from whatever speed i'm at to 30-40mph, almost causing an accident. it's happened on multiple occasions.

During the cold the car will not turn on, will show a stabilitrak problem and the transmission light turns on. when it is on and you drive it, it will automatically turn off and stay off at a red light or whenever you press the brake. i have two other friends who own the same car and it does the same , which makes me assume a manufacturer problem of cars not turning on in the cold/ sensor issue.

The electrical blinks out . engine reduced speed is a problem and is very damgerous i was almost hit on the freeway. this car is a dud and most models like it have the same problem.

At less than 32k miles i"ve had issue with the shift to park indicator, the radio random on and off regardless if car is running or parked and off and now multiple indicators for an emission issue car will suddenly loose power or stop. i have taken care for service on regular basis and have had service repairs done twice to supposedly fix computer board. unfortunately, service either says they have rest it or can't find issues i describe. i will park the car and let gm have it before i get killed in traffic!!!!

While driving on a city street approaching a roundabout the engine warning light came on, the car reduced it's engine power, and the traction control sensor came on

Car indicating to place in park after placing the shifter into park and shutting down the car this happens weekly at least i was coming to a stop at a light and the car just completely shut off no power dash flashed a few times i put it in park, then i pushed the button to start it didnt start. im stuck at stoplight on busy street during morning traffic. second time this has happened

My brake boosters went out and i paid $700 now something odd is happening to my brakes with the air or pressure. should this whole car be recalled? my electrics blinked out the day i got the car and the salesman said ' it happens sometimes now i have to replace a battery for$290 on a car i have less than 2 years?? it was mentioned the auto start affects my battery!! i need to speak to someone about reimbursement and covering my battery. let's take auto start off totally it's a nuisance not a solution and the tow truck driver said he has taken in 4 gmc/chevrolet this week and 2 were malibu's. my car is at the dealers right now!

A 'shift to park' displays when i am already on park when i try to turn off the car. so i am unable to turn off the car properly due to this. i took the car for a diagnostics at my local chevy dealer and the advisor told me that it's a manufacturer defect with the shift control.

After putting the vehicle in park, and the vehicle is stationary, the p on the shifter lights up that it is in park, the screen reads that is is in park, and the car is parked and not moving. after pressing the engine button to turn the car off, a warning pops up on the screen saying 'shift to park!' even though the car is in park. it takes many tries and a lot of time to finally get the car to turn off.

Car shuts off completely while driving-the car goes dead de-energized completely. all controls would not work just locked up on me. i had to have the unit towed twice, we switched the battery in the key fob and the car ended up starting, however 2 weeks later it died again while driving, i nearly had an accident again!! 3 times the car has been in motion going straight and completely shuts down. the dealership was not able to find anything with their diagnostic testing!! this has to be some sort of mal-function or recall regarding this issue.

Warning message says 'shift into park' & even though engine shuts off, the radio (& i'm assuming battery) doesn't. car won't lock because of it. has required turning car back on & off as many as 8 times, and/or moving forward or backwards numerous times. chevy dealer's service advisor told me "yeah, we've had lots of problems with that. we usually have to replace the shifter control box".

2017 chevy malibu has "shift to park" warning light come on when the car is parked even when has been put in park several times. this light only comes on when stationary and trying to park the car. if i leave it like that and take the keys with me, it honks repeatedly.

Intermittent issue while driving at highway speeds (70mph) car will pop up service stabilitrak error message on front display, the traction control light will illuminate, while cel begins flashing. at this time, car will lose power and speed will begin to fall. continuing to depress accelerator in an attempt to maintain speed will cause car to shudder. entire incident lasts only 1-2 minutes, before drivability returns. in-the-moment onstar diagnostics show no issues. purchased car brand new; only been serviced at the original dealership, only use shell v-power gasoline. 1st incident- dealer said wet roads/rain to blame; did not run diagnostics, did not attempt to service 2nd incident- dealer noted cylinder 3 misfire, swapped coil pack and spark plugs on cylinders 1 and 3, changed oil. 3rd incident- on my way home from dealership following above service, dealer noted cylinder 3 misfire, opened a case with gm, and performed decarbon service to engine, said carbon build-up to blame. 4th incident- dealer noted general engine misfire code, along with several communications errors codes; replaced ecm and reprogrammed car. dealership told me using non-top tier gas is to blame. car has total of 27k miles on it- issue began to occur around 15k miles. i have dashcam video and all service records.

Car will advise to "shift to park" when vehicle is already in park. vehicle will not shut off. shifter assembly issues and needs to be replaced. thousands of customers have been affected according to chevrolet forums and youtube videos

Well coming to a stop at a red light the vehicle shuts off with no power. this happened to me multiple time with the car having no power that i can't even put my emergency lights on. prior to this my vehicle noted "service stability" on dash board and that went away. after that issue popped up another issue occurred. my dashboard noted "shift to park" when my gear was in park. my dealership replaced it in which that's when the car started to shut off more.

I purchased the car with 11miles on it and i am still having these issues with loss of power steering resulting in almost near death crashes. the car stalls while in motion. this has happened both in traffic and on the highways. ive had to pull over on the highway. the emissions in the car is always a problem and the engine constantly sounds like it falling out as you switch gears. i have reached out to gm to complain, however they have not been helpful nor are they experts in fixing transmission/ emissions issues. at this point i no longer have faith in this 2017 malibu and i feel like gm is taking absolutely no responsibility in the errors of the mechanics of this car. so far, i was told after 1 year of trying to fix the issue and hundreds of dollars spent on rental cars because this issue is not deemed a warranty issue, they gave me $1500 to purchase another gm vehicle, never addressing the issue of the safety concerns i have with the car. that is not fix i am willing to settle for. what about the monthly obligation i have in terms of paying off this car? none of the technicians were able to explain to me why this is and i have spent countless dollars in an effort to have this car looked at. the reason for my recent complaint is because again the car is experiencing stalling and low power steering. the original fix from chevrolet was to change something in the battery "found code coboo b1325 low voltage codes. found shorted cell in battery casuing low voltage at startup replaced battery and road tested 6 miles. no code returned " however they have changes that cell everytime i take it in for service. this does not fix the issue, instead causes me more money because this is not a warranty issue and i am always having to leave my car for weeks. i am looking for a remedy that is safe for both me and my children. i have repair orders if needed

While dropping off my children at school the car came to a complete stop and went into auto stop. when releasing the peddle so the car could turn back on the whole dash board and the radio screen completely cut off and when the car turned off it all switched back on. the dash screen flagged and said steering assistant is reduced drive with care. this repeatedly happended another two times everytime i came to a complete stop. after the third time the car did not turn off at all. in the past i have had the error message come on when the car would come to a stop and the car would turn back on but i am beginning to become very worried because now the whole dash board and radio are turning off. i was on a regular city street but am worried when i return to work after my vacation i will get stranded. i am attaching screenshots of a video i was able to capture on the third time this happened to me. the time is attached also.

While driving the vehicle i came to a complete stop while waiting to make a left turn on a busy city street and the vehicle shut off therefore remaining in the intersection from on coming traffic, in other terms the vehicle died on me. i was unable to do anything due to no current .this is not the first time this has happened with this vehicle.

The vehicle displays/flashes quickly, stabili track system error (maybe not the exact words) and after a while the engine speed decreases. this has happened to me 3 times and two happened to be when i was driving on the highway going 70mph and the vehicle speed suddenly decreases to 30mph due with any warning.

A traction control light came on then warning reduced power mode and engine light while car was in drive on highway 2 times

Back in the 1st week of january 2019 i experienced the first major issue. while i was driving to work on the highway traveling at 65 mph the cars check engine light went on as well as the traction control. the vehicle immediately sent a message on my dashboard that said "reduce engine power" and the car jerked and the speed drastically dropped from 65mph to about 20mph. i was unable to accelerate and was luckily able to drive to an emergency lane while cars and semi trucks were behind me and almost hit me. i turned the car off and then back on again and the engine light remained on, but i was able to safely get to a chevy dealership. the dealership ran diagnostics on it and they determined it was a faulty gas throttle pedal and sensor. the vehicle was in the shop for a total of two weeks, due to them being out on the parts. i paid over 500 dollars for the repair. less than a week later i was merging on to a highway to go to work again. as i was merging on the engine light went on and the message saying "reduced engine power" came on again. i lost the ability to accelerated and pulled over. i then turned my car on and off again. the engine light remained lit and the "reduce engine power" message remained on this time. i was able to accelerate to a max of 35 mph this time. i returned the vehicle to the same chevy dealership. they ran diagnostics on it and this time they stated it could have been due to the cold weather and said a oil change might help. the oil was changed on the vehicle and then the called saying the vehicle was running very rough when they started it. they also then stated that there was condensation in the radiator from the coolant. they are still waiting for parts and the vehicle has been there almost three weeks. total time in the shop was 5 weeks out of 6 weeks.

(accelerator pedal) all of a sudden my car started to stall... right in the midst of me driving .. no matter what speed im driving. causing my dash to read ( reduced engine power ) everytime my car go's into this malfunction its a sudden lost of power.. where ever im driving at any speed.. on city street , highway, etc..were it could lead to very dangerous or tragic situations.. i took my car to a chevrolet dealer were they diagnosis it to be ( pedal position sensor not plausible needs accelerator pedal replaced and programed.. my car has been in the shop since january 24 2019 awaiting for apart (accelerator pedal) that has been on back order for over a month and still hasnt came available as of february 5 2019 nobody can fully explain why noone has this particular part available.. there are a number of cars having this same issue awaiting this same repair .. at the exact time of my awaiting. this is a very problematic issue. that has become very inconvenient of not being able to drive my car at all.

Driving the vehicle on the road and it loses power and wont let you drive over 30 mph. the vehicle also would not start. had to let the car sit for 15 seconds then try to start it again for it to start. then it would cut off while stopped at a traffic light. dealership fixed the pistons and added a new battery still had a problem and now they replaced accel pedal sensor. and now drives a little funny.

When driving the vehicle swerves and fishtails from time to time. dealer is staing stabilitrak needs to be repaired, the car has good tires, hasn't been involved in any accident and is too new to be having this issue

I purchased 2017 chevrolet malibu in 03/ 2017 with approximately 7 miles at the ourisman rockmont chevrolet, located in rockville, maryland. at about 20,000 (12/23/2018) miles i brought the car into the dealership to have it diagnosed as i had a near death experience when i was stopped at a red light & then tried to accelerate when the light turned green except the car stalled once the emissions portion of the car tried to kick in, it cut off and did not restart in the middle of a 4 way intersection. i tried restarting the car for about 0 mins until then finally the acr restarted again. this occurence continued to happen peiodically, i am not sure what the cause of this reaction, but i let the dealership know if every instance and broughtthe car in to be checked at 20,000 miles, 24,000 , 26, 000 miles & 27,000 miles. i was told by the representative "guy" that gmc was notified and that i shouldn't continue to bring the car there. that was april 2018. unfortunately, the incident happened again while i was leaving the garage at work. car cut off another car almost slammed in the back of my car due the abruptness of the car going out. the ssue has never been addressed by the dealership and during the most recent incident august 2018 i took the car in to advise them of this issue in addition to a knocking sound in the rear of the car. i was told in august 2018 that i am outside of my warranty and that i would be charged a diagnostic fee. my car has about 50,000 miles currently. that is neither here or there. as the original issue was never addressed when it was under warranty and i am not willing to lose my life trying to have this car repaired in a timely fashion. instead i have spent hundreds of dollars in rental car fees as i am not comfortable driving in a car with an issue so severe that gmc was notified and still has not been to rectify this issue with my car.

Both mine and my wifes 2017 malibu goes in to reduce engine power mode with stability tack light on and service engine light on.and when it happens on the freeway car just drops to 25 miles an hour.very dangerous

My 2017 malibu had a loss of engine power, it happened while on vacation. while in traffic on a dark curvy road, there was a sudden loss of power, the car would not accelerate and the engine light was on as well as a message indicating loss of engine power. i pulled over an restarted the vehicle, it did not gain full engine power back. i was able to slowly make it to my destination. the next morning (kids in tow) the engine light was still on, and the vehicle still seemed sluggish. while driving home ( or to a dealership if possible) the car again lost power and i had to pull over as to not obstruct traffic. upon getting the vehicle serviced, they claim the matter was resolved i am not confident,

On friday december 29, 2017 as we were driving home we almost re-ended another vehicle in a city street at the speed of 55 mph due to car brakes locking and hard to press down, luckily hard we were able fo brake by pushing hard enough. also sensor have failed twice- three times in heavy traffic and will brake on their own without any car being directly in front of me which is scary and could cause a major accident on the highway. we contact gmc and filed a claim (83737025405) and also took it to the chevrolet dealership in our hometown which is not doing much but charging us $1000+ for a change on a vacuum top and seal but don't understand that this is a safety issue for we have almost crashed over 4 times due to these issues.

The very first advanced diagnostic report by 'onstar" emailed to me on 04/07/2017, was less than 30 days after the final sale of my vehicle. i called the service team for the first time on april 7, 2019 @4:13pm. (see phone records) i am unsure of the mileage however; i do confirm it was within the 30 days of me purchasing the car and i spoke with a service rep by the name of guy. at the time of sale, the car had 15 miles total. the diagnostic message received on april 7, 2017 was "an issue with the emissions/ engine power reduced/engine stalled". the check engine light was also on i have received an email to that effect every month thereafter, and to date. each time causing the check engine light to come on. i have also attempted to have the car repaired multiple times, within warranty and while out of warranty, by two dealerships. 1. rockmont ourisman chevrolet &2. sports chevrolet. both service teams never resolving the issue. the last few times the car was in for service at the senior advisor's recommendation was on 10/17/2018 for 1 day, 11/09/2018-11/13/2018 for 4 days and finally 12/10/2018-01/17/2019, over 1 month at the sports chevrolet. during this time, unfortunately, i was not under warranty; therefore, i spent quite a bit of out of pocket expenses on a rental vehicle for the days my car was in for repair, even though this issue was obviously relating the same unresolved complaint from april 7, 2017 and that a chevrolet senior advisor recommended i go there. i found the senior advisors to be unhelpful and limited in remedying simple common sense customer concerns. i have lots of documentation
