Problems with 2017 Chevrolet Malibu ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

On average, the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRICAL SYSTEM and its various aspects after 39 433 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2017 Chevrolet Malibu

Two times in 24 months and approximately 62,000 miles the primary 12 volt battery has failed. this failure causes the trunk lock to become inoperable. the trunk cannot be accessed in this situation. because the trunk will not open there is no access to the failed 12 volt battery. also there is no way to fold the rear seat backs as the release levers are located in the trunk. this situation is both a safety dangerous hazard and inconvenience. both of these occurrences happened while the car was parked in our garage.

The car will not start sometimes. yesterday the lights and radio came on randomly while sitting in the garage with the fob in the house. randomly shuts down while driving. the last time it was half way through an busy intersection. had to push the car off the road.

Engine power reduced. engine power reduced. at first it seemed to happen when it was raining, but on dry days no problems. the engine light comes on, and disappears a few hours later. the dealership acts as if they can't tell you anything once the warning and engine light turn off. lately it's been happening more frequently, so i was finally able to get it read. error codes p2138 and p2127, both referencing throttle/pedal position sensor. seems to be the only complaint i see on here. i also have read about law suits being filed regarding this as well.

Within 1 year i bought brand new hybrid malibu car from chevy dealer, i had experienced dead 12v battery. dealer replaced the battery which i paid even though i thought it should be within warranty. last night i experienced 3rd dead battery again after i parked the car for 7 hrs office work. the 2nd time dead battery occured was last june 2019 only, dealer also replaced the battry. its a 3rd time that i experience dead battery (stationary/parked) for brand new car 2017 hybrid malibu within 2 years. obviously its not the battery issue but its design of electrical system. before and during the battery issue, i got stabilitrak light on and steering assist in reduced alarm as well. i just want to vent my frustation with this brand new car. hope other car owners will benefit from this info. for 10 years i never had battry issue on my previous car. thanks

My car will randomly go into engine reduced power mode causing my car to drop from whatever speed i'm at to 30-40mph, almost causing an accident. it's happened on multiple occasions.

During the cold the car will not turn on, will show a stabilitrak problem and the transmission light turns on. when it is on and you drive it, it will automatically turn off and stay off at a red light or whenever you press the brake. i have two other friends who own the same car and it does the same , which makes me assume a manufacturer problem of cars not turning on in the cold/ sensor issue.

The electrical blinks out . engine reduced speed is a problem and is very damgerous i was almost hit on the freeway. this car is a dud and most models like it have the same problem.

At less than 32k miles i"ve had issue with the shift to park indicator, the radio random on and off regardless if car is running or parked and off and now multiple indicators for an emission issue car will suddenly loose power or stop. i have taken care for service on regular basis and have had service repairs done twice to supposedly fix computer board. unfortunately, service either says they have rest it or can't find issues i describe. i will park the car and let gm have it before i get killed in traffic!!!!

The vehicles brakes keeps popping where it makes it very hard to stop. also the car is dying when the car does come to a stop so that you have to put it in park and start it again. the back glass is leaking. check engine light is on and shows it being the turbo but have had it in the dealership and the continued to say it is this sensor or that sensor or a sensor is dirty but never fixed the problem. the antenna was replaced to fix the back glass from leaking. now that the vehicle is out of warranty it comes that the problem is the most expensive issues that never was seen before on the car. i have bought several of new vehicles and the is by far the worst car. i have bought my family a death trap waiting to happen.

On nov 12,2019 i was driving in glen burnie maryland in a street , coming to a stop light i stop and the car turned off, i turn it on again and got on the hwy i-97 north came off ramp. where i stop on red light the car turned off again. but this time. i lost all power it would not turn on nor any lights , completely dead. not even emergency blinkers, at this time i called a tow truck , police asistes me , after giving the car a boost cable. it turned on , battery is new as of 3 months ago , took car to garage. they can not find no problems with anything ,

Engine light on continually and never went off; i drove to dealer who said the gas cap area of fuel line was leaking; needs to be replaced they said and tried to order it from gm but they do not have the part; they ordered the part and cannot tell me when it is coming. they could not advise me on the safety of this condition. i know someone who had a similar problem with their model car. can i drive this or should the dealer give me a loaner? i am still under the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty. we have always had problems filling the car and it is never completely full. we have brought it to dealer several times about this with no advise. they did recalibrate one time. they said it was an issue with the dash board reporting less gas than is in the tank. please let me know about this as we continue to drive the car.

Side sensor detection system is not working. a warning light comes on each time the car is turned on.

While driving my car says "steering assist reduced. drive with care". it has started out of no where

When i put the car in park and turn the car off a message pops up saying shift to park....i turn it back on put in drive and push the gear hard in park and it work ...i shouldn't have to do that every time. it just recently started.2017 chevy malibu ls

Vehicle does not register that it has been shifted to park. when you stop and shift it to park and then turn the vehicle off, it will come up with a warning to "shift to park". if you ignore the warning, and try to open the doors, it starts to honk at you. it takes several attempts of turning the vehicle back on and shifting out of park and back into park before it registers that it is in park.

The car on a irregular but basis but at inconvenient times will not start with push button start. error message is "no remote detected" the internet tells me the a tsb 197955 was issued but i can get access to the tsb..

My brake boosters went out and i paid $700 now something odd is happening to my brakes with the air or pressure. should this whole car be recalled? my electrics blinked out the day i got the car and the salesman said ' it happens sometimes now i have to replace a battery for$290 on a car i have less than 2 years?? it was mentioned the auto start affects my battery!! i need to speak to someone about reimbursement and covering my battery. let's take auto start off totally it's a nuisance not a solution and the tow truck driver said he has taken in 4 gmc/chevrolet this week and 2 were malibu's. my car is at the dealers right now!

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chevrolet malibu. while the vehicle was at a stop light, it attempted to restart independently and the power steering assist warning indicator illuminated. the instrument panel started to blink and the vehicle stalled. the contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but it failed to restart. the contact called moritz chevrolet (9101 camp bowie, dr. west ste. # 1, fort worth, tx 76116, (817) 696-2000) and scheduled an appointment. the contact stated that the vehicle was in the process of being towed to the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 59,211.

The car intermittently does not recognize when the vehicle is shifted into park. i will place the car into park, try to turn off the car, and the monitor will display "shift car into park". this hinders me from turning the vehicle off and i'll spend time having to shift the car into different gears to get it to recognize that it's in park.

When parking and turning car off it show a message " shift to park" and car is parked, due to this the music keeps playing unless we manually turn off and when we step out of the car it will beep as if car isn't off.

Indicator light repeatedly comes and says, please shift vehicle into park. when the vehicle is already in park. i will have been pulled in my driveway already in park mode, i will have to keep starting and stopping the vehicle to get the vehicle to recognize it is already shifted gears into the park position. this has happened more than 6 times since i have had this vehicle in the last 2 years

Steering assistant! when economic stop happens i'm alerted and car turns off and electric wipes out n comes back on!! my car stopped this time. every other one of your cars have this recalls. i am in my car now stranded!

While driving in the left most lane of a tollway in stop and go traffic, the car was at a stop and suddenly lost all electrical power. the car completely shut down with no warning or warning lights. nothing worked including hazard lights. attempts to jump start the car were unsuccessful and the car had to be towed to a safe place. after that the car started again as if nothing had happened. no error lights or any visible signs that something was ever wrong. battery was less than a year old and fuel was 1/3 tank.

Car shuts off completely while driving-the car goes dead de-energized completely. all controls would not work just locked up on me. i had to have the unit towed twice, we switched the battery in the key fob and the car ended up starting, however 2 weeks later it died again while driving, i nearly had an accident again!! 3 times the car has been in motion going straight and completely shuts down. the dealership was not able to find anything with their diagnostic testing!! this has to be some sort of mal-function or recall regarding this issue.

1. once the car is shifted to park, sometimes the car will not power down due to an error message "shift to park." 2. mpg is supposed to be about 30 miles per gallon however i am only getting about 20mpg.

Warning message says 'shift into park' & even though engine shuts off, the radio (& i'm assuming battery) doesn't. car won't lock because of it. has required turning car back on & off as many as 8 times, and/or moving forward or backwards numerous times. chevy dealer's service advisor told me "yeah, we've had lots of problems with that. we usually have to replace the shifter control box".

Car will advise to "shift to park" when vehicle is already in park. vehicle will not shut off. shifter assembly issues and needs to be replaced. thousands of customers have been affected according to chevrolet forums and youtube videos

Driving on a major highway with a customer and the engine light comes on, power is reduced to a crawl, and then "power reduce" light comes on. at that point no acceleration occurs and car cuts off ( i was able to glide to the side) and will not start back up. after an hour,( and me having to call another car to pick up my customer) car cuts back on. take it to dealership, was advised that a bulletin was issued regarding this problem 18 months ago, 1 month before i purchased car. said i needed my cylinders replaced (the engine) but once i took it in, they replaced the fuel injections (23,000 miles). 60 days later, the same exact issue has occurred, again on a major highway, this time i had just dropped off a passenger. waited 30 minutes, and was able to drive home. since it was the holiday weekend, i was not able to get into the dealership for immediate repairs again. called today 7/8/19 to speak to my advisor, he has not called me back. i will have to have the car towed in or drive on the back roads at a crawl.

2017 malibu lost power while on the freeway on 4/10/2019! dropped from 65 down to 45 while in the 3rd lane. this has to do with some electrical connection around the drive pedal! there are many complaints of ppl losing power while on the freeway. just google it! this is a known issue that is going to get someone killed! as a former qe in the auto industry, this would have already resulted in recall efforts because of the safety risk! so nhtsa, i hope you take this complaint very seriously and not wait for someone to die or get seriously hurt! such as the takata airbag, firestone tires which almost killed a family member!

Well coming to a stop at a red light the vehicle shuts off with no power. this happened to me multiple time with the car having no power that i can't even put my emergency lights on. prior to this my vehicle noted "service stability" on dash board and that went away. after that issue popped up another issue occurred. my dashboard noted "shift to park" when my gear was in park. my dealership replaced it in which that's when the car started to shut off more.

I purchased the car with 11miles on it and i am still having these issues with loss of power steering resulting in almost near death crashes. the car stalls while in motion. this has happened both in traffic and on the highways. ive had to pull over on the highway. the emissions in the car is always a problem and the engine constantly sounds like it falling out as you switch gears. i have reached out to gm to complain, however they have not been helpful nor are they experts in fixing transmission/ emissions issues. at this point i no longer have faith in this 2017 malibu and i feel like gm is taking absolutely no responsibility in the errors of the mechanics of this car. so far, i was told after 1 year of trying to fix the issue and hundreds of dollars spent on rental cars because this issue is not deemed a warranty issue, they gave me $1500 to purchase another gm vehicle, never addressing the issue of the safety concerns i have with the car. that is not fix i am willing to settle for. what about the monthly obligation i have in terms of paying off this car? none of the technicians were able to explain to me why this is and i have spent countless dollars in an effort to have this car looked at. the reason for my recent complaint is because again the car is experiencing stalling and low power steering. the original fix from chevrolet was to change something in the battery "found code coboo b1325 low voltage codes. found shorted cell in battery casuing low voltage at startup replaced battery and road tested 6 miles. no code returned " however they have changes that cell everytime i take it in for service. this does not fix the issue, instead causes me more money because this is not a warranty issue and i am always having to leave my car for weeks. i am looking for a remedy that is safe for both me and my children. i have repair orders if needed

I started having issues with my 2017 chevy malibu a little over a month ago. i was driving in the city and the engine light came on and a warning for engine power reduced came on. car would not go over 30 miles and hour. it didn't happen again until 2 days ago its happed for both days on day it came on as i was entering the freeway. had to pull over and turn my car on and off untill i could drive it again normally but the engine light would turn on and off. i'm very disappointed this is happening to my new car. the reason i got a new car was to have something reliable. i cant even trust to drive this car what if it happens and i have my baby in the car... i'm so disappointed.

While dropping off my children at school the car came to a complete stop and went into auto stop. when releasing the peddle so the car could turn back on the whole dash board and the radio screen completely cut off and when the car turned off it all switched back on. the dash screen flagged and said steering assistant is reduced drive with care. this repeatedly happended another two times everytime i came to a complete stop. after the third time the car did not turn off at all. in the past i have had the error message come on when the car would come to a stop and the car would turn back on but i am beginning to become very worried because now the whole dash board and radio are turning off. i was on a regular city street but am worried when i return to work after my vacation i will get stranded. i am attaching screenshots of a video i was able to capture on the third time this happened to me. the time is attached also.

While driving the vehicle i came to a complete stop while waiting to make a left turn on a busy city street and the vehicle shut off therefore remaining in the intersection from on coming traffic, in other terms the vehicle died on me. i was unable to do anything due to no current .this is not the first time this has happened with this vehicle.

Engine power reduced several times a day in traffic and on the highway not letting me accelerate the car over 30 miles per hour at random times almost causing an accident for me and my 4 children. car can be in motion or sitting still.

Vehicle went into 'engine power decreased' unable to accelerate with the check engine light on as well as throttle sensor on. took to dealer who checked all of the diagnostic codes and said it was fully operational. again drove for about 1 month and same thing happened. took it back in and chevrolet dealer said it was the accelerator pedal sensor. we replaced the sensor being a $200 part last week and again the check engine light came on. when this happened we were on the highway in a snow storm and had our baby in the vehicle. it locked up and cars couldn't slow down appropriately. we left the highway for safety reasons and kept vehicle on as it was below 0 degrees outside!

Vehicle has "reduced engine power" multiple times error displayed and will stall anywhere in traffic causing dangerous situations. these cars are being sold people are not familiar with this. you can stop on the side of the road and check what is wrong but risk possibly being injured by on coming vehicles in on going traffic. this feature should be something covered by the company for a brand new car there no reason behind why the car is doing this or how the driver cause the car to enter this limp mode. i drive on a highway at 70mph and the car stall completely sent me into panic mode because there was no warning prior to this, soon will cause the death of a driver and their family. once getting the car home it no longer starts.

Vehicle has multiple times a day "reduced engine power" error displayed and will suddenly stall anywhere in traffic causing dangerous situations. people who not familiar with this. will have to stop on the side of the road and exit the vehicle to check what is wrong and risk possibly beeing hit and killeother d by another vehicle. this feature should not be allowed on any vehicle. it causes endagermemt for drivers and other traffic. it is a needless feature. if any sensor is bad it already gets displayed by the check engine light. there is absolutely no reason to on top of it stall the vehicle causing extremely dangerous situations for the driver and other traffic.

After trip of a few miles and after turning off the start/stop(keyless) switch, the screen messaged that the remote key was not detected, even though it was still in the car. neither remote keys would not perform any function nor would manually pushing door locks or switch. after about 20 minutes remote key operation returned.this happened again about 2 weeks later. the dealer cannot find the problem. i am worried that this will stop the engine in a critical situation.

When shifting into park, the shifter does not fully engage resulting in the inability to park the car or turn it off. the message on the dash says "shift into park" even though the shifter is actually in park. this happens everytime the driver tries to park the vehicle.

Takata recall: just purchased a used 2017 malibu premier in july 2018 with 26,000 miles on it and it is hesitating to start every morning. each initial start there after the car starts right up after i've put 3000 miles on the car the engine jumps while holding break.

Trunk leaks when it rains. the plastic between the back window and ceiling lets water in when it rains. it allows moisture to get into the vehicle, which means in the winter ice forms on the inside of the windshield as well as the outside. rain and moisture getting into the car has also caused a problem with the back speakers not working.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to immediately stop. the contact turned the vehicle off and, upon attempting to restart the engine, the "key could not be detected" message appeared. the vehicle eventually restarted and was taken to the local dealer (phil smith chevrolet, 1640 sr 7, lauderhill, fl, 954-271-1474), but the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was offered. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 19,000.

Check engine light is on i have taken it to dealership and it has been diagnosed and fixed it is the battery modulater sensor (if i spelled it right) the same code comes up. dealership states its a manufacturer issue or system issue and a fix is being worked on its been a couple of months all they can do is reset the sensor but it keeps coming on.

My 2017 malibu had a loss of engine power, it happened while on vacation. while in traffic on a dark curvy road, there was a sudden loss of power, the car would not accelerate and the engine light was on as well as a message indicating loss of engine power. i pulled over an restarted the vehicle, it did not gain full engine power back. i was able to slowly make it to my destination. the next morning (kids in tow) the engine light was still on, and the vehicle still seemed sluggish. while driving home ( or to a dealership if possible) the car again lost power and i had to pull over as to not obstruct traffic. upon getting the vehicle serviced, they claim the matter was resolved i am not confident,

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chevrolet malibu. while operating the vehicle, the driver's side turn signal failed to work, the windows would intermittently operate, and the headlights shut off. the cause of the failures was not diagnosed or repaired. the local dealer (hefner motors in batesville, ms) was notified of the failures. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 20,000.

My 2017 chevrolet malibu exploded and caught fire after it had been parked for hours on the street. it started from under the hood and melted the passenger side of the dashboard. mechanical/electrical defect from the engine of the car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 chevrolet malibu. on several occasions while driving, the engine stalled and lost power. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to bob steele chevrolet (2800 florida 520, cocoa, fl 32926 (321) 632-6700) where no diagnostic failure codes were found and the failure could not be replicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and scheduled an appointment to view the vehicle. the contact stated that due to the inclement weather, the manufacturer would notify her to reschedule the appointment. the failure mileage was 204.
