I am or have experienced similar problems related to multiple recalls for my 2013 chevy malibu, yet i when attempt to get the repairs for the recall i'm told they're aren't any connected to my vin. if that's so, then my vin[xxx] and others like it should be added to the recalls. my malibu has been or is experiencing the issues brought up in recall #'s 50490, 50491, 13136, and 12212. now why am i stuck having to pay out of pocket for things that are known in a recall. this is very disturbing to me. going forward, should i succeed in getting this recall accepted, i don't need to here that it may be out of warranty. that wouldn't be fair either. as the prior owner couldn't have had the work done as a recall because the vin wasn't in the system in time to be done before any restrictions or warranty expired.as i am making this complaint, i am in the process of getting the repairs done and would appreciate being reimbursed for all expenses incurred. as i wait for a favorable response. thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tt *tr

Vehicle was traveling at 65mph on a highway. brakes were applied suddenly to avoid an accident when the power brake booster failed resulting in essentially no braking ability at all. the brake booster failed a second time after being replaced from the initial incident. luckily this happened in a parking lot at slow speed, but the car has no braking capability to avoid an accident, it takes several dozen car lengths to stop the vehicle even at slow speeds. incidents were about 2 years apart, the most recent being on 06/03/19. i see no active recalls on the power brake booster but it seems unusual to have 2 failures of this critical item.

When my 2013 chevy malibu is in motion and someone is in the passenger seat (many but not all times) all of the electronics, including the electronic speedometer, and all dashboard gauges, in the car stop working and notifications about the airbag system and braking system appear. the mechanical aspects of the car still seem to work fine, but the notifications about the airbags and braking make me concerned that it is not safe. this has been happening for a year. i have tried taking my vehicle to the dealership multiple times and have been told they either cannot replicate it or they will "fix" something that doesn't end up solving the problem. given that this problem started randomly and not with any intervention on my part of the part of any mechanic, i am contacting nhtsa because i am concerned that this problem is related to the airbag sensor in the passenger seat and that this might be happening with other people and could represent real danger if this really is affecting the airbag and braking systems (even when the passenger seat is not in use).

The entire electrical system will randomly shut down causing loss of power steering, power brakes, entire dashboard, all lights, hazard lights etc. this can happen at any time, on the freeway, stopped at a light, parked etc. sometimes it goes dark and restarts itself while driving....sometimes it goes dark and won't restart for minutes or longer while in traffic without working hazard lights. if parked, it can't be taken out of 'park" to push it out of traffic or try to start it in "neutral" and the key can't be removed from the ignition.there are no error codes to diagnose the issue and it won't ever happen while it is in the shop (of course) this is the ultimate safety hazard to me and my family.

In the last 2 years i have lost my breaks due to the break booster going out in my car now again last night i lost my breaks again due to this issues i is a very big issues i could have been involved in a accident or killed someone i would like to know why this keeps happening because to me this is a big safety issue. i was driving down the road

13 malibu every day at least twice the radio will flicker off and on multiple times and then once i hit the brakes and make a turn the brake will go solid and the steering wheel jerks hard all at the same time and then all my dash lights stop working. then it will all power on and work like new a few seconds after. but once the car is parked and car is turned off it will not allow me to take the key out. and then once you try to turn the key in there is no power at all. no lights. no clicks. no radio. no nothing. completely dead car. but then if you unplug the battery for 10 mins and plug it back in... then the key will come out and/or will turn on and the car is working fine again for maybe a trip or two and then it does this again. every single day! no codes show on the dash no lights of anything wrong at all. has been doing this for almost a month now. i have almost hit multiple people because of this issue!!! help!!! local chevy dealer and also a local body shop cannot find the issue. i have a 5 year old and i'm terrified to take her anywhere with me and it's our only car and i owe a lot on it. only had it almost 2 years. i need help

While driving my 2013 chevy malibu on the highway & turnpike, i was driving approx 60-70 miles and hour and then out of nowhere the vehicle decreased speed down to 30 mph and also had me cause an accident with the drivers behind me. the check engine light then came on and a message "engine power has been reduced". i was able to pull the car over; however, this is a danger and should be resolved as still this continues to occur since i have contacted general motors and advised of the safety issue. still have not seen a recall on this issue yet which i was shocked. i asked the gentleman if there have been other complaints and he stated yes. so i am very shocked that this issue has not been resolved. my vehicle now is out of warranty and still mechanics do not know what is wrong and can not fix this issue. i do not feel that i have to pay for parts that this vehicle does not while they try to pinpoint the problem. literally the mechanic at day chevrolet during the diagnostic just said to lets start somewhere and see if that resolves the issue. i don't believe i should have to pay for parts that may or may not resolve the issue. since then i now have more lights popping up regarding traction stability, parking break (which was replaced and did not fix the issue) track control, etc have come up and seems to have disabled my anti-lock brakes. could someone pleas contact me if there is a solution for this if someone is aware of what part or parts will fix this defect.

On 4/16/2018 after being parked for 2 hours i went to put my 2013 chevrolet malibu in reverse to back out of a parking space i noticed pressure from the brake threat wouldn't allow me to fully press down. there was also a loud hissing noise coming from the pedal. i was barely able to stop my car. i took my car to the shop where i was told i needed to have my power brake booster replaced. i was advised that is was abnormal for a new car to have that problem. the repair was $529. now on 9/24/2018 while at a red light my dash went haywire and all alerts were illuminated. the display read 'service power steering' i was unable to put the car in park or turn off the ignition but all lights were off. after 5 minutes i was able to get the car back on and in gear. after making a left turn i noticed i was unable to stop the car. the brake was hard to press and there again was a loud hissing noise. after taking my car once again to the shop i was advised i needed another power brake booster. i was told there was a recall on the part back in 2013 but it was never replaced in my car. the dealer has refused to replace it at this time and i am hoping for a resolution. the car becomes inoperable without notice and it is jeopardizing the safety of myself and others.

I recently paid my vehicle off and i am experiencing several electrical issues. the emergency brake went out and "service emergency brake light is on". there's no connection. when i hit a pothole in the road while driving, my radio screen blacks out. then i can hit another bump and it comes back on. when i park, my ignition does not release my key. i have to turn the steering wheel several times and put it in drive then back in park several times to get the key to release. after doing this several times my key broke off in the ignition and i was stranded and had to walk home over two miles. has anyone else complained of these issues with the 2013 malibu? i couldn't pass my recent safety inspection due to the brake issue and i was inconvenienced again as a result of these issues.

The brake pedal is sticking and will not fully release. the vehicle will not accelerate when this happens and the brake lights will stay on after the car is turned off. i only have 35600 miles on the vehicle. the dealer can't find the issue but suggests the brake pedal assembly be replaced but will not guarantee it will fix the issue.

Brake pedal (pivot) bushing worn prematurely at less than 36,000 miles. this caused pedal to drag and not return naturally to it's "released / up and off" position. the result was that pressure remained on the brake system so that calipers at wheels did not release, causing brake pads to remain in contact with brake disc. brake overheating, excessive wear, inability to initiate "cruise control" and reduced braking performance were all results of this premature design and or material deficiency. this problem was apparent under all condition when brakes were used. brake pedal had to be physically pulled "up" to release the brakes.

While driving on the parkway at around 50 mph i went to slow down and realized i had lost my brakes.i was able to stop the car by downshifting the automatic and applying a huge amount of force on the brake pedal. when i took the car to the dealership with 50,000 miles on it they told me that i had completely lost the brake booster

While driving car instrument panel turns off, after which steering locks up and brakes become inoperable. instrument panel turns off for seconds, then as the instrument panel turns back on, all messages on instrument panel flash (ie engine light, low battery, etc). most common message is about stabilink. even after instrument panel turns back on, the steering wheel will remain stiff and hard to move until you leave the car off for an extended period of time. there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the problem, other than driving it. i've had it happen in stop and go traffic where i'm going from not moving to at max 5 mph, i've had it happen on an empty highway going 65 mph, i've had it happen two minutes into my drive, and i've had it happen 40 minutes into my drive. steering wheel does not always lock up in the middle of a turn, but most frequently it happens when making a sharp turn. i have video of the occurrence of the steering wheel and what happens to the instrument panel but am unable to upload it. i've tried to get the whole thing on video but it really just depends on if someone is in the car with me or if my phone was at the ready and i'm in a safe environment to record. it's scary enough to have the steering and brakes be useless to me, so my focus is usually more on controlling the car.

Cars brakes are basically stuck. brake assist coming on and causing brake lights on exterior of car to stay on while driving and parked, also while car is off with key out of vehicle. when letting off the brake the car comes to a stop very quickly as if you were applying the brakes. it is hard to accelerate going forward and in reverse. car shakes while driving down the highway. there is a hot smell coming from car after this happens

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet mailbu. while driving approximately 35 mph, the brake pedal stiffened without warning when the pedal was depressed. the contact pulled over to the side of the road and pumped the brake pedal until it worked. the dealer diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred nine months later. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. the contact was informed that the vehicle was out of warranty. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered a $70.00 rebate. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 75 mph, there was a loud abnormal noise from the rear of the vehicle. the contact observed that the rear bumper detached from the vehicle and was lying in the road. while driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

Abs warning light came on along with message to service stabilitrak.

There are periods of time when i put my turn signal on and my wheel lock up, the radio turns off and all the power shuts down in the car. the brakes feel like they are locking.

The abs light has come on stating that i did not have stabil track control anymore. this happened when i was entering a busy road when i spun tires on some gravel on pavement road surface. it happened when i spun tires on a icy road driving at about 35 miles an hour due to road conditions. it happened when i was driving down a dry pavement state highway at 65 miles an hour. a total of three times. every time it was the same problem but different wheels. it has happened with lr, rr and rf wheels part replaced was 13589507w-(s) wheel bearing assembly. the problem is the encoder ring which is part of this assembly is cracked, pieces gone or the whole thing gone. there was not a problem with earlier versions of this encoder ring. i understand that this part will be on the new 2017 models and that it will affect the computer even more than the 2013 version with some features such as cruise control.

The problem i am having with my 2013 chevrolet malibu deal with its brake assist. the brake assist engages on its own without operator enabling it. this problem causes the vehicle to loose accelerating power, whereas, the operator needs to apply more force to the accelerator to move the car forward or backwards. if, the operator removes foot from accelerator the car will come to a complete stop rapidly, reminiscence if one is operating a manual transmission vehicle and down-shifts. other problem with vehicle when the car is shut-down and keys out of ignition the brake lights remain on (not on every occasion but periodically). all, aforementioned, the dealer has been notified and taken in for repairs two separate occasions but the problem persists. in, addition, i have contacted gm customer care center in the past and most recently june 5, 2015 about the problem (code #71-1466326393). but, today, june 7, 2015 is by far the worst incident to date. while operating my vehicle on a local interstate the brake assist engaged itself again causing server vibrations from all four wheels and a loud disturbing noise from the wheels. also, the steering wheel vibrated back and forth; with these problems i felt the need to exit the interstate. i feel the vehicle is not safe to operate

Brake pedal does not raise after apply brakes remain applied or brake lights on unwanted. the condition has happened in high temperature and humidity conditions so far and may not be repeatable. this is not a normal wear and tear condition, this is a safety hazard. i have children that ride in my car. the brakes seize up, bad smell coming from the tires. driver must pull up on the brake. this is a manufacture defect and should be replaced at the cost of the manufacturer. dealerships are charging $1300 to replace, the part itself is $70.

Cleaning out the trunk discovered no spare tire. only sealant air compressor. how stupid. was not informed by the dealer, who obviously knew they would lose a deal if customer informed. this is a big time scam and cover up. i can see real trouble if i have a blow out! stupid!!! *tr

3/20 i was going 35 when it lost power and brake.onstar towed to dealer 4 days later was told it was traction control and fixed. 4/29 going 50 and lost power, and braked to 28 mph. onstar again towed to dealer has sat there for 24 days and counting with no resolution from gm. this is a 2013 chevy malibu.i am currently looking to have it declared a lemon. *tr

I was driving my son to work and i lost all power to my vehicle. i had no brakes, power steering and my engine light came on and battery light came on as well. i managed not get in a accident and get into a parking lot. thank god. my backlights have had issues as well they have stayed on and have cuased me to get pulled over by the police. *tr

When i was driving i noticed that every so often my brakes would feel really stiff when braking. later that day, parked vehicle in the driveway and brake lights would not go off, had to go into vehicle and lift brake pedal up to get lights to go off. noticed later that day that brake pedal was getting stuck down after i released my foot off the brake. does not do it everytime i break but did start to do it the day we had 90% humidity. still have to sometimes lift the pedal up to get the lights to go off. *tr

I purchased my 2013 malibu ls in september, 2013 and have been having nothing but problems since. during the first few weeks of me having the car my rear defrost was not working properly and my car would smell like an rotten egg which it still does. i took the car back to the dealership and of course they found nothing wrong. a few months letter my brakes stated grinding whenever the car was in reverse (still does). the dealership found nothing wrong, but stated they had smoothed my brakes. my car has cut off a total of seven times and the dealership found nothing wrong. so i called and spoke with the head person in charge of the service department and was told it could be my computer, but nothing has been done to check the computer. my car loses power while driving and has even sped up on its own. my brakes, brake hard as if they?re getting stuck at times. when i turn on the car hot air blows at full force and will not cut off until the car is turned off. the glove box light shines in the floor and the seatbelt would not latch. the best part of it all, while the dealership had m car one of the workers hit something, so they had to remove my front bumper to paint it and did not place it on correctly. my car is experiencing all of the issues that are out on recall, but i?m always told the recall is not for my car. gm needs to take full responsibility and correct the issues or buy back my car. i refuse to continue to pay for something that is not worth it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds the transmission would shift abruptly. the contact stated that after depressing the brakes there was slight delay before it engaged. the vehicle was taken to dealer however the vehicle was not inspected. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. the failure mileage was 1,460 and the current mileage was 2,041.
