When we are driving the car it will start shaking, the esc light comes on and the car completely dies. this has happened while driving 15 mph and 70 mph on city streets and highways. we have had it in multiple shops and been told this is a common issue nobody has found a resolution for. very dangerous and afraid to put our kids in the car as we don't know when it will do it, there hasn't been a common variable.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while driving 65 mph, the timing chain failed and caused the vehicle to lose all power. the driver was able to coast over to the side of the road. the driver attempted to restart the engine, but it failed to start. the vehicle was towed to ozark chevrolet (1020 n 18th st, ozark, mo 65721, (417) 297-0091) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain system failed and the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. in addition, the vehicle was taken to the same dealer on several occasions for a period of three to six months for not operating correctly. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but did not assist. the failure mileage was approximately 136,000.
Takata recall... the undercarriage fell down unexpectedly while driving. the most important thing is that i have been continually getting an error that my engine reduced/engine disabled and it shuts off while i'm driving on the street. i may get a few seconds of motion to get to the side of the road before it stops completely. it's happened with my child in the car and that scares me more to think it may happen again. it has happened 3 time in the past 5 weeks. i've had a tune up and a number of things replaced in the past 12 months. my engine light came on again and one of the same sensors on the engine had to be replaced again.
My check engine light has been coming on lately. so i took it to a place so they could check it. the results states that the camshaft position sensor needs to be replaced. my lights are dimming, the bright headlights symbol comes on if i am sitting under a viaduct, the radio is disappearing on the dashboard, and my heating system is on when it's off. then the car is jerking erratically when i proceed to drive after a stop. my vehicle is under 50,000 miles. it's at 48342 now. i need to know if there are any recalls because 3 years ago i,was under 35000 miles and had to pay for a new engine that should have been covered under the emissions act, and i had to pay $800 for that, plus getting disrespected by the manager at the dealership. please let me know if anything comes up concerning this matter. thank you
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to dick genthe chevrolet (866-874-7380, located at 15600 eureka rd, southgate, mi 48195) and the contact was asked if she wanted the vehicle repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 15v269000 (seat belts). the contact approved the recall repairs. six days later, the contact was informed that the vehicle was not ready and she was not allowed to see or retrieve the vehicle. the contact was called two hours later to pick up the vehicle. when the vehicle was started, the air bag indicator illuminated. the technician informed the contact that the failure made the vehicle unsafe to drive and it needed to be diagnosed. the contact stated that there was no air bag failure with the vehicle prior to the repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered a $250 discount towards the repairs ("take or leave it"). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 89,865. parts distribution disconnect. *as *tr
Every time this has happened the car has been in motion. 3 times within a year this car has just died on me. have all power to dashboard lights and radio but the engine shuts off and wont restart. first time i was told it was low on oil. second time it sat for 2 days and cranked right up. 3rd time the plenum on the egr valve was cleaned. it seems odd to me that these 3 things would all cause the same exact issue. thankfully it has not happened in heavy traffic and was able to coast out of the road
My 2011 chevy malibu with 2.4 ecotec just broke a timing chain guide. 67,000 miles. was getting the p0016 and p0017 crank / cam correlation codes. man am i ticked!! i bought this car with 18,000 miles always changed oil. gm will do nothing!! i have owned a 2001 saturn l200 that broke a timing chain with 106,000 miles and crashed the head. gm would do nothing!! i had a cutlass supreme and cutlass sierra in the 90's. both of these cars had the outer harmonic balancer ring just come un-glued and fall off! gm did nothing. this is the last straw for me , i am now focused on honda who actually cares about reliability!!!!!
Car continues to go into reduced engine power and will not drive/run longer than five minutes. i have already had all recalls fixed on the vehicle including the one that supposedly fixed this problem.
Ecs light, check engine light came on, reduced engine power, abs light, code throws map sensor error. happens after vehicle go through the carwash or get slush and moisture from the road. map sensor connector seems to be causing the electrical issue. very dangerous going down the road, happened suddenly while not expecting it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while driving, the vehicle lost power. the vehicle was pulled over and shut off. the vehicle sputtered and the check engine indicator illuminated, but the vehicle was able to restart. the failure occurred several times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle body was defective and located diagnostic code number: p2135. the contact made an appointment for the repairs to be performed at dave gill chevrolet (4700 e broad st, columbus, oh 43213, (614) 364-4376) on january 15, 2019. the manufacturer stated that they could not assist since there was no recall. the failure mileage was 60,000.
Car shut off after driving to the store, it wouldn't start and said service esc
While normal driving. car will give the following error codes: "service esc" "service traction" "esc off" and "engine pwr reduced" back to back. the car will power itself down until ~10 mph while making a rattling noise. the car will start and act as if everything is fine once i pull over and fully shut the vehicle off. this happens at any point, driving highway or neighborhood speeds, while turning and even when idle.
I brought this vehicle three years ago from the original owner with 60,000 miles kept up with all the maintenance etc. and today the vehicle left me stranded a few blocks from my house . i currently have a no start no cranking issue all the diagnostic from fuses, relays , fuel pressure, ignition switch, battery, etc where done leading us too believe its a bcm issues as too seeing that many other chevy malibu and other gm products are experiencing these same issues
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while driving 20 mph, the engine seized. the vehicle was taken to shepherds chevrolet buick (1520 e 9th st, rochester, in 46975, 574-223-2136) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain was fractured. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to call nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 94,000.
It is noted that the exhaust manifold on the 3.3 l four-cylinder engines for years have a cracked exhaust manifold there by leaching carbon monoxide into the cab interior of said automobiles. parts of carbon monoxide have been noted to be 20 to 30 ppm when readings have been done
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle made a popping sound and stopped. there were no warning indicators illuminated. also, while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle decelerated to approximately 20 mph and the steering lost power. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road. the contact noticed smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. the vehicle was towed to the contact's house. the dealer was not called and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 55,661.
When i start the car the traction control light comes on esc comes up and says it turned off . when stationary it will just die, when driving it will just die doesn't matter if i'm going 75mph on the highway or in the middle of an intersection of city streets!!!!! took it to the dealership they have no clue what's wrong with it i've add mechanics tell me it's my computer but they don't work on my make of a car. the car may start up or not. i've read of a recall for this particular problem back in 2014 for this make, model, and year. they said they fixed? and this happened when i first bought the car in 2016 after they kept it for 90days for the seat belt recall.
Sometimes at stops (stationary) , car stalls, could cause an accident..it will start again when ignition is turned on again as if nothing was wrong.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle began to lose power and decelerated to 5 mph. the esp, abs, and check engine warning indicators illuminated. the contact pulled over to the side of the road and waited approximately 15 minutes before restarting the vehicle, but the failure persisted. the contact was able to drive the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the failure was diagnosed as the throttle body. the contact was referred to ballas buick in toledo, ohio (419-386-0187). the dealer was contacted by phone and a diagnostic appointment was scheduled. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
While driving, a notice of reduced power, service traction and the check engine light came on. pulled the car off the side of the road and shut it off, upon restart the whole car started shaking. i then shut it off for a few minutes, this time when i restarted only the check engine light was one. there are several reports of this issue and no fix from gm. this is a major risk when a car stalls out on the highway with a small child on board.
The exhaust manifold cracked allowing exhaust gases into the passenger compartment.
At approximately 85000 miles the timing chain went out of the engine, this is a none issue with these engines and an expensive repair at that. this effects several gm vehicles at 85000 miles the timing chain should not of been bad something needs to be done about this this happened as we were driving the vehicle and can cause the engine to stall
Randomly starting about 3 weeks ago my 2011 chevrolet malibu started going into reduced power mode and showing service traction, service esc and eng pwr reduced. the vehicle would shake and suddenly slow down. it showed a p2135 code. the vehicle restarts after a period of time sitting, but the events happen again when it is driven again. it takes approx. 20 miles from when it was started. researching this p2135 code i found many complaints and they all involved the throttle body or throttle position sensor. i contacted chevrolet and they told me it wasn't covered under a recall although they do have a special coverage 14582a which is currently open. but they said my vin was not covered by that program. this is a very dangerous situation and i can't imagine that not all 2011 malibu vehicles wouldn't be covered.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while driving various speeds, the "reduce power" electronic stability control warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle began to shake. jack winegardner chevrolet (11001 indian head highway, fort washington, md 20744) was made aware of the failure and stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. in addition, the dealer stated that the vin was not included in the throttle body warranty extension and special coverage number: [xxx]. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 112,659. parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 20 mph, a warning indicator illuminated that the acceleration would began to decrease to approximately 5-10 mph. the vehicle began to shake and the contact depressed the brake pedal. when attempting to apply the brakes, the vehicle lunged forward. the contact was able to pull the vehicle over and place it in park to turn off the vehicle. the contact noticed the warning indicator illuminated again, indicating the traction control, engine, and esc failed and needed servicing. the contact diagnosed the vehicle at home and received error code p-2135, which indicated that the throttle sensor position needed repairing. the vehicle had not been to the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Takata recall: my vehicle sensor are reading incorrectly. my check engine light won't go off, random light come on and off, my sensors is not reading my engine and engine location or tires. system is also reading there are no air bags or says passenger seatbelt is not in place when it is. frequently my wiring glitches and i can not control the mirrors or windows, ect. my coolant and oil constantly drains out but no hole is noticeable. my car exhausts and won't move like it is supposed to as well.
The wiring on my vehicle has always been messed up causing my check light engine to stay on at all times. i've had multiple machinists look over my vehicle and have spent lots of money trying to get this issue fixed.
Timing chain, engine noise
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while stationary, the vehicle would not start when prompted. a dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the issue. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 154,000.
Engine power reduced and the vehicle sounds like it is going to explode. it reduces the speed to 5 mph. you can turn the car off sit for a few minutes and turn the car back on and it runs fine. it does this daily. i have replaced several sensors and it has not fixed the problem. i have also replaced the throttle body twice and that did not fix it either.
Engine light came on while driving on the highway the engine started to lose power going up a hill and then lost all power as we were able to make it off to an exit ramp. had to have it towed to an auto repair shop since we were in the middle of nowhere driving home. auto mechanic said the timing chain broke and the entire engine needs to be replaced. luckily there wasn't much traffic otherwise it could have been worse. no other problems with the car in 6 years and only 66,000 miles. have heard of this happening on other malibus. absolutely ridiculous for this to happen on a new car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to go into drive position. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master overhaul kit, pistons, control solenoid, and the torque converter needed to be placed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 33,000.
My engine light has been on since i purchased the car back in 2014 the dealership said it was no big deal that the light would evenually go out. upon purchase it had 51,000 miles on it, because they had it for a few weeks due to it having hail damage the finance company wouldn't approve the loan because of problems. the car was riding ok up until a few montha ago i noticed i was loosing power it was driving slower, i started feeling it tugging when i wanted to pick up speed. then 3 days ago it just wouldn't go in reverse, when i tried to switch back to driving it wouldn't go into drive ultimately i had to have the car towed because the tranmission went out on it. the car only has 71,000 miles on it. i barely drive it anywhere. the engine to look at it is very clean. i looked up all the recalls on my car and none of them i was notified for and there are many. so why am i not getting a letter about this transmission that has obviously gone out. up until now i was in love with this chevrolet malibu and was a devoted customer advising people this was a good car, now i'm not so sure. looking at all these recalls are alarming.
Speed slow down on a 55 mph highway to 10 mph and wouldnt get no speed and it throttle and shake until i came to a stop the most scary thing to ever happen to me i went from a ford to chevy the most stupid idea i could've ever done and ever light on dash board is on and blinking to brake light, traction light, etc light, radio and clock lights the speed door and window lights its to much to deal with im afraid that this car is gonna take my life from me but noone can find no problem with this car i've got an oil change to spark plugs and so much more done on this car and nothing has changed this the fourth time this car has put me down in the six mths of me having this car somebody please help i love the car but its not a safe car to have and i can even exchange it out for another one at least thats what the people at the car lot says.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start upon attempting to turn the key in the ignition. wood motor company (600 us-62, harrison, ar 72601, (870) 741-8211) indicated that there was an internal electrical and engine failure that required diagnostic testing. the dealer stated that the repair may be extensive. the dealer indicated that the timing chain, gear, belt, and valves within the engine assembly may need to be replaced. the dealer also stated that the pistons had not been firing at the right time and there was an internal meltdown of the dashboard area. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
The incident happened twice thus far. once while waiting at a light and another time while driving. the car began to shake and the engine light, as well as the stability control lights flashed on. the car began to rev erratically and actually caused the car to move forward. some messages began to come up on the dashboard display and the message that remained was engine power reduced. trying to take off from the light to find a place to pull over the car was jerking and i could barely accelerate. while driving this slowdown and jerking happened suddenly and almost caused a collision with another car. after pulling over and shutting off the car the problem disappears for while before happening again. once parked, opening the hood showed a violently shaking engine. a simple google search revealed that this is a frequent occurrence with malibu around that time and the mileage i have on the car (66500). the culprit appears to be a faulty throttle body, from the experiences of other drivers.
About a year ago i was driving car going around 40 miles an hr and it would just die on me, no lights came up no warning. it happened at least 6 times and every time it happened it had it towed to dealership to get checked out. i've had fuel pump, fuel relay, cam shaft sensor 2 times and other things replaced. still same thing would happen. died again on me had it towed to a garage and my timing chain was broken, replaced that and cam shaft sensor again. drove away and it died on me again. the only way my car stays running is when cam shaft sensor is unplugged but engine light stays on. when car dies i have no lights that come on to tell me i have a issue, it just shuts off. i've been dealing with the car just shutting down on me for a year. i'm afraid to have other people in my car cause i don't know if or when it would happen again. when this happened i had around 92000 mile on car.
Vehicle without any warning reduced power to just idle while at a traffic light. vehicle check engine light illuminated and several error messages were displayed including "reduced power." i drove through the intersection at only 2 mph and then pulled over on the side of the road. i shut the car off four (4) times and then the engine ran normally. i drove vehicle to the dealership. dealership diagnosed problem to an intermittent electrical connection at the tps connector for the ecm. tsb # pip5019 (doc id#2834731) identifies repair procedure to replace pins/contacts for the tps connector. evidence identifies a latent manufacturing defect that can cause the car to suddenly and unexpectedly reduce engine power placing the driver and passengers at great risk.
Timing chain failure in the 4 cyl. echo tech engine. took it to the dealer and they told us they have many vehicles with this same engine come in but the malibu has not been recalled even though it's the same engine as the traverse recalls. not replacing the timing chain and pulleys will result in engine failure.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing chain failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 73,000. the vin was not available.
Engine reduced power message is displayed and the engine loses power while driving. service traction control light comes on. car may stall in the middle of a busy highway. check engine light comes on. engine code is p2135. it happens between 4-10 minutes after startup. when it happens we have to shut the ignition off wait a couple minutes and restart the vehicle which the vehicle runs normal at that point. this is a repeated daily process and still is not resolved. we removed this vehicle from highway use do to the unsafe condition. it is winter here in michigan and may contribute to the issue.. car has 130,000 miles. *tr
I was driving and the car began to shake and jerk, and then the alerts across the dash came up as "service esc", "service traction", and "engine power reduced". i took it to a chevy dealership and was told the throttle body needed to be replaced. after paying $550.00 for the repair the car seemed to work fine until recently, only two months after the initial repair the same exact thing has happened, and now the dealership is telling me that they do not know what is wrong with the car, there is no recall and i'll either have to trade the car in (which i can't afford to do) or just drive it and hope the problem will correct itself. i am beyond scared to drive it as my daughter is in the car with me, and i do not want to be driving a death trap down the highway. please help.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while driving 70 mph, the reduced power warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle slowed down independently. the contact stated that cycling the engine off and on remedied the failure; however, the failure recurred. the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
1. my car is 5 year old and 73,000 miles. we use it for commuting to work and grocery. and we do all the maintenance at dublin chevrolet dealership. on nov 11th, my car broke down on the highway and blocked the traffic. the front trunk was smoking. the car was towed to dealership. they said possible engine problem. although the car is just out of warranty, it is hard to believe that this car has no quality problem with such few years and relatively low mileage. 2. a few months ago, i received a recall notice from the car making company and took the car to the dealership to get the recall done. but they said the part has not arrived and asked us to wait until they call us. we never get call from them. this time, i called their recall department and left a message. never hear back from them.
The engine overheated while driving on the highway, it lost power and started smoking. the temperature gauge dropped to zero and was forced to pull off onto the shoulder and be towed to a service station because the vehicle was no longer operable. the mechanic stated that the engine was damaged due to a coolant leak from the water pump. the vehicle had 98,616 miles at the time of this incident. the engine had to be replaced at great cost and inconvenience! gm issued a bulletin for what sounds like the same problem with the chevrolet cruze (2011-2014) and sonic (2012-2014). it is bulletin no.: 14371b. i called gm to request reimbursement but they say no action can be taken because there is no bulletin or recall for this problem for the 2011 chevy malibu.
I have been experiencing issues with my 2011 chevy malibu. i was driving down the road when suddenly the motor started violently shaking and the dashboard information display would flash, "engine power reduced, service esc, service traction control, air bag lights and check engine light came on". this was an intermittent issue, it can sometimes go weeks/months without issues, but then out of nowhere it will start happening again. sometimes shutting the car off, waiting a few moments, and restarting would usually get it running correctly again. however, other times it will remain for several days. the issue has been becoming more frequent and staying longer as time goes on. when i started seeing the issue i looked up online to see if other people were seeing similar issues and found hundreds of people with the same year, make, model car having the same exact issue. i have seen issues started at 50k miles and up, but mine started doing this at approximately 72k miles. this issue has almost caused me to get in several accidents, and i believe this should be recalled as this is a major problem. here are some of the websites at which i found people sharing their stories of the same exact issue. [xxx] i have included a couple of images of a couple of the dash messages please help the most recent incident occurred 05/07/2016 but has been happening intermittently for a year or two, it started at 72542 miles but most recent happened at approximately 92k thank you *tr parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *cc
Driving on highway at 65mph,vehicle lost all power. i was almost hit by an 18 wheeler but was able to get to the shoulder in time. no brakes, steering, power at all. gm dealer diagnosed timing chains need replacement. no recall on this known issue? endangering lives

Car when started steering wheel locks up all the lights start flashing, locks start to unlock and lock themselves. engine lines comes on hard to move forward or backwards.
1/26/2016 i got my camshaft solenoid fixed due to my check engine light coming on. when it started to shake real bad with the dash lights stating that my engine power was reduced, loss of traction (something to that effect) i instantly put it in the shop. then last week 3/4/2016 i was driving up to erie, pa from ohio, which is about 4.5 hours away. i say a good 40 minutes from my destination it happens again right on the highway. engine light comes on and the dash says that my engine power has been reduced and loss of traction (?). thankfully there was an exit near that i could get off at and as soon as i put my car in park it started to shake real bad. so i did what i did before and turned the car off to let it reset and then started it back up. it ran fine for the remainder of my stay until it came time for me to leave to go back home. this time i only got 20 minutes away from erie before it started acting up again, but it kept doing it. talk about being frustrated 4.5 hours away from home in your car. especially since i just got it fixed not too long ago. this needs to be on the recall list, because this is ridiculous.
