Problems with 2011 Chevrolet Malibu ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

On average, the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL and its various aspects after 83 598 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle shook violently and the service electronic stability control, service traction, and engine power reduced warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 109,000.

Took my car in to dealer because it started shaking violently going 20 mph, needed a new transmission is what i was told, had the transmission put in and now the esc, and other lights are on!

6/6/2015 car was sitting in parking lot. upon trying to start the car errors for electronic stability control and reduced engine power showed up. car was sputtering and running rough. turned car off. waited a little while and started car again and no error messages. but the check engine light came on. the error code that came up was p2101. 6/10/2015 same thing happened. let the car sit for about an hour and tried to start again. smelled heavily of gas when it started. check engine light is on.

While driving the vehicle i suddenly felt a light jerking sensation. the service esc and service traction control lights immediately came on. the vehicle jerked to a stop. once the vehicle was turned off and then restarted the indicator lights are gone. i've had this problem several times in the past two months and have had it in the shop. the certified chevrolet dealership changed the front wheel bearing. the car did well for a little over a week. now the problem is reoccurring. the dealership also found codes for a fuel injection failure but were not able to "duplicate" the codes so no repair was performed on that. the service esc and service traction control problem is dangerous. if i didn't have to go to work i wouldn't drive the car. it's a safety hazard as i am a long distance commuter. i have had all service and recalls completed since purchasing the car a little over a year ago. dangerous!! i'm hopeful that our government officials will force gm to issue a recall to remedy the issue before people lose their lives.

I was slowing down to make a right-hand turn and the power steering suddenly ceased, forcing me to steer manually. i was not able to complete the turn, i had to stop quickly and resume my direction of travel prior to turning. if there was another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction of where i intended to turn, most likely i would have collided with that vehicle. i had to use a significant amount of force to manually steer the vehicle after losing the power steering. also, as a result of the power steering failure, the vehicle esc became inoperable. i was able to carefully drive the car to a chevrolet dealer and was advised i need a new electric power steering motor and other parts totaling approximately $1200. i advised chevrolet of this situation and currently awaiting to hear from them. i regard this product failure as a very serious safety issue with potential risk of personal injury. the vehicle has 39,085 miles and has been dealer serviced since purchase. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle decelerated to approximately 10 mph and the esc and traction control sensor lights illuminated. after stopping the vehicle and restarting the engine, the failure continued to occur. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 100,000.

2011 malibu 2lt 3600 vvt. i have multiple instances of the service esc, service traction control & engine power reduced messages appearing. the last time, today, almost caused me to be rear ended due to the engine fluctuating between about 200 and 1500 rpm. after the first instance i brought the car to a dealer to have recall #14v252000 addressed. this seemed to solve the issue but after a couple of days it all happened again telling me there's obviously something else wrong. through on-line research i have found hundreds of complaints about this exact same issue with almost as many supposed causes. there is no warranty left on my car and i can't afford a mechanic to guess. i strongly feel that gm needs to address this issue before someone dies. *tr

This morning i was driving my children to school when check engine light suddenly came on and car went into reduced engine power mode and was violently shaking. it is snowy conditions and freezing. we were nearly rear ended. i turned the car off for a minute and it ran fine once i restarted. however check engine light remained on. when in reduced power mode it gave a message about the traction and service esc. also, for about a week, dash lights have not been working at times. dangerous and common problems from what i see. *tr

I was driving my 2011 chevrolet malibu at about 40 mph on a fairly busy 2 lane street. without warning the car lost power. a message appeared in the information screen indicating something like "reduced power to the engine". also, a message indicated that the engine was operating under reduced power mode because i needed to service esc, and the engine light was displayed as well on the dashboard. i was fortunately able to get the car pulled off of the road and into a parking lot. i read the owners manual and essentially found out that the vehicle was operating in "limp mode". i took the car to the dealership and found this to be a "common problem" for chevy malibu models. my car was, of course, out of warranty and not covered under any sort of recall, so i had to pay about $500 for the repair. my concern is that this is a safety issue as i suddenly and without any warning lost power. had this occurred when trying to pull across a heavy intersection or merging into traffic this could have caused a serious injury. further, i see reports all over the internet about this issue and i am reporting this as a serious safety concern - had this situation happened under different circumstances it very easily could have caused an accident and serious injury to someone. i since followed up with chevrolet service and they essentially told me that they are "aware" of the issue but there are no recalls etc... *tr

I was driving on the 376 parkway then all of a sudden my car flashed service esc engine power reduced service traction. then is wouldn't drive past 20mph and i could feel the car pulling its self and shaking severely when i would be at stop signs or red lights. the engine sounds like its revving up like a race car. scared me bad i had this car brand new i actually just got it inspected last month no issues and actually is in a garage when i get home i travel 5 miles daily to and from work. i'm being told my warranty just expired but i see a recall on this model car and also drivers having the same issues as well. *tr

I was on the way to work when my car started to jump, sputter and then stopped completely, was going on to the expressway. the engine reduced power light came on, engine stability control light came on as did many other lights. tried to turn the car back on but did not start, waited a bit and finally got the car running. took to my auto mechanic and stated it was the ecs and throttle body that needs to be replaced. i have looked and there are many complaints about same issue. i was driving today at 70rpm with the lights came back on and was lucky enough for get off the highway prior to car completely stopping. if this is a known issue why is chevrolet waiting until someone is injury or worst yet killed before a recall is done. *tr

Driving 2011 chevy malibu ltz light came on.got message saying engine powering down.car began to shake and speed dropped to about 20 miles per hour.pulled into cvs pharmacy lot.turned car off and re-started.drove around lot for 1 minute.just as i was about to pull off lot and enter expressway.car shut down completely.unable to re-start.waited 2 hour's for tow on star road side service.plan to have car towed monday morning.will check for esc recall on this car. *tr

Several warning lights came on (ecs and traction control) and the display read, "loss of power". i was at highway speed and the car slowed to about 15mph. i was unable to increase my speed. after turning off the ignition switch in a parking lot, and waiting for about 15 minutes, i started the car and it ran fine. however, on the following monday the same thing happened 6 times while trying to get it to bergstrom chevrolet dealership. the first attempt to repair the problem only made it worse, and the second time a new throttle body assembly was installed. this repaired the problem. on my son's chevy truck the same problem was covered under a recall, but on my malibu i was told it was not. on the internet i was able to find six pages of similar problems that other malibu owners had. they too were told that it was not covered under a recall. this type of problem could have, and maybe has, caused numerous accidents and i assume injuries. there should be a recall and i should be completely reimbursed for my repair expense. *tr

Started the car up. esc and reduce power warning light came on. today 2/24/2015 makes the 4th time it has done that. today as i was riding along it done it. car stalls and jumps. engine light comes on. only had the car a year starting at 65000 miles. *js

On my way to work, i noticed the engine light on. car got me to work fine. checked gas cap just to be sure that wasn't the problem. off work engine light still on, but car running fine. did some running for about an hour. got in the car to go home the light wasn't on, so im thinking maybe a senor bad. driving home which was about a 30 minute drive. about half mile from my exit on the highway and engine light pops on, esc light pops on, reduced engine speed follows. thankfully i mad it home. pressured on star for an on demand diagnostic check and its my throttle control system. its an 2011 malibu, next month makes a year that ive had it. also the third time its going to the shop. first time was the intermediate shaft, the u joint dislocated lost all power to steer, thank god it happened in my parking lot at home fresh off the highway. chevy only paid half and after a month battle with them, kicker was it was a recall for that but my vin number wasn't included. second time was for leaking transmission. so disappointed with chevy and past fed up. *tr

driving during snow and ice, esc indicator came on, pushed the tc and it didn't work properly, the car goes only about 20mph with jerking motion, malfunction indicator light is on, fluid from somewhere drain on the ground underneath the car. tire pressure indicator light is on. car sat still for about 7 hours and still did the same thing. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while backing out of a parking lot, the esc error warning indicator illuminated continuously. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the stability traction control warning lamp and the esc warning lamps illuminated each time the brake pedal was applied. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the contact stated that within weeks of the recall repair, the failure recurred. the dealer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle needed to be further diagnosed. the recall remedy did not repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 64,903.

Was idling at a drive thru window and the car dash lights started coming on. ecs off notification, transaction system off warning light . car engine was stuttering, than revving up to faster speed. had car brake on, tried putting it into neutral and it still did the slow down/speed up engine speed. very dangerous, turned car off and turned it back on. ecs off light is now dark but engine light is still lit up. *tr

I was driving home in the snow and my traction control kept going on. then something seemed wrong and suddenly my speed was reduced to 5-10 mph and my car started shaking and couldn't get a grip on the road at all. then the car said engine power reduced, service traction, esc off. luckily i was only going about 20 mph because it was snowing. normally i would have been on the expressway going 55mph! and i have 2 kids! luckily no one was hurt. so i took it in to the dealer and they said i needed to replace throttle body and exhaust cam actuator which cost me almost $1000 and wasn't covered under my 5 year power train warranty. my car is almost 4 years old with 47000 miles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate and the esc indicator illuminated. the dealer could not determine the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure recurred numerous times. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

2011 chevrolet malibu has experienced numerous occasions with "hiccups" (temporary loss of power) while driving followed by flashing warning light of traction control then followed with "service esc... service ecm... esc off". service engine light also came on and stayed on. by the time we took the vehicle to gm service the engine service light was off and they could not duplicate the problem or get a code but recommended a new ecm. problem occurred again and returned back to gm service with same result and recommendation. my wife commutes 1.5 hours per day and also drives our 3 children to school each day. after having the vehicle continue with these issues, the vehicle finally stalled completely, on 2 separate occasions, in heavy traffic but would eventually start and run again. she did not feel safe and would no longer drive the car so i drove the vehicle one week each day to work to witness the problems myself. every single day while driving the vehicle would flash the same error codes on each trip to and from work finally, on the way to the gm service department, the vehicle died in the middle of busy traffic and i had to have it towed. a new ecm was installed (with a cost of $650+) and within two days of driving, the exact same problem has occurred. gm service sent a tow truck and i await their next attempt at fixing this vehicle.

When i'm driving on the express way or on the streets the esc, traction control and engine light comes on and my car shakes and makes a loud noise. i have done research on this issue and i have noticed that this has happen to other customers as well. when i went in to have it repaired i was told there is not a problem. *tr

Airbags and side airbags didn't deploy, steering locked up and wheel separated form axel

I was driving to maryland for christmas break on i95 going 70 mph on cruise control when all the sudden my car made a noise and shook. then the esc message came up on my dashboard along with the traction control symbol "service traction esc."then my car switched to reduced engine power and i was only able to go 25 mph. i was in the middle of traffic and had to turn on my hazards and make my way over to the shoulder to inch my way to the next exit. when i got to the shoulder the car was shaking like it would stall out and sounded like it was misfiring. i shut my car off and waited about five minutes. when i turned it back on i was able to drive another 20 miles before the same thing happened again. this happened 6 times before i finally made it to a mechanic who told me that i had a bad throttle body and it would need to be replaced. four and a half hours later i finally made it to my destination. i went to a chevrolet dealer who then told me that the part and service would cost me 825 to fix and that this was not under warranty. *js

I was driving home from being out of town on 10/15/13 while driving on the freeway while driving about 80mph when out of no where the car started to shake and vibrate then the "traction light ,service esc, engine power turning off and car went from going 80mph to 10mph on the freeway, while a big diesel truck was behind me in which i was to be able to pull to the side to avoid being rear ended by the diesel, in which i had my (xxx) yr old daughter in the car and other family members. on december 23,2014, the same thing occurred while driving the car at 60mph it reduces speed to almost zero mph, shakes with the "traction sensor light and "service esc engine power turning off comes on and the car stalls! leaving me stranded and having the vehicle towed again! the first time this occurred the dealership told me since the engine light wasn't on anymore it would be difficult to diagnose!? i continued to drive the car until the second incident! i called 2 chevrolet dealers in fresno,ca i was told they haven't heard any complaints, which is astounding because after reading the numerous complaints on this website of others having the same issue with the same car is unbelievable until there's a law suit! *trparts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Cannot pass inspection! short circuit fault - camshaft position actuator solenoid fault. open or short circuit detection condition in the solenoid. this is a known issue and defect with chevy malibu and other models and my vin has not had one recall issued on it - though there have been several recalls already on other malibu 2011 models. need to have dateline nbc or an attorney investigate vin fraud for not having my vin # assigned these recalls for which the manufacturer would pay for all repairs related to these known safety defects. *tr

As i was driving down the highway, my service air bag light illuminated. onstar was called and they diagnosed the car as having an malfunction in the air bag, pulled off to the side of the road and had car towed to nearest dealership. as i was waiting for the tow company to arrive, i tried to start the vehicle after 2 hours to which all lights started flashing and car went completely dead. note, car was just in the shop 2 days prior for oil change and recall on bcm. dealership came back with a $1200.00 estimate for repair or replacement of an airbag. $858.00 for the airbag replacement and $241.00 for a new battery. dealership would not cover this under warranty stating sometimes electronics have issues. *js

While driving down the highway, my power engine warning came on and the same as warning lights for esc and traction warning. i just recently took my car into the dealer for fixing the recent recall problem and i wonder if it made my car worse?? will be stopping by monday morning...if i make it home ok after i've had to stop and pull over twice to fix the problem. *tr

While idling, my 2011 malibu's esc light illuminates every day and at every red light/stop sign. the vehicle also drives on its own at 72 mph after i take my foot off the gas pedal. the local chevy dealer requires me to pay a service fee to check for a problem that they are we'll familiar with. i did rec've a call from chevy corp who stated they will pay for the first hour to attempt to diagnosis the problem, but i would be responsible for any cost after the first hour/coffee break. after reading about many others with the same complaint - shame on chevy!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the service esc and the traction control warning lights illuminated. the contact mentioned that there was a sudden increase of engine rpms. however, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the vehicle was able to restart but the failure progressed over time. several months later, the contact received a notification for recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was serviced under the recall and the technician stated that the cam shaft position actuator solenoid valve needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the throttle body assembly would need to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 85,656.

As i was driving my 2011 chevy malibu home to tulsa ok from arkansas my car dropped speed, i lost my power steering, the reduced engine power light came on, service traction esc light came on too. when this happened i was on the highway driving 65 mph and then the car lost speed down to 15 mph. i was almost hit on the highway. i made it off the highway and stopped at a store but could not figure out what was wrong. i made it home barely and the next morning my car started and i've had no problems until monday dec. 22nd when i was leaving work to go home the same thing happened. i stopped and turned my car off for a little while then when i restarted it was fine. had no more problems until christmas eve when my fiance and i were headed to texas to be with relatives. we had to pull over about 5 times due to the car having the same issues. my fiance looked under the hood to see if he could figure out what might be wrong and all he found was that our battery cables were loose on one side. we finally decided to stop and buy a new battery cable. we made it to texas and had no problems until we were headed back home from texas. we made it about halfway home when we had the same problem. we had to pull off the road about 15 times total. each time we just turned the car off for a moment. we would get back in the car and make it about 10miles down the road when the same issue started again. my fiance finally thought maybe our battery was going bad. we stopped and bought a new battery for $120 and replaced it. at first we thought this fixed the problem but only made it about a mile when the problem happened again. we would pull off the road and turn the car eoff and it would run good for a mile or two and we would have to pull off the road again. we didn't think we were going to make it home but we finally did. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. the contact received notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system , electronic stability control , exterior lighting , service brakes, hydraulic , vehicle speed control). the contact stated that the dealer was contacted twice and was informed that the part was not available. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. the vin was not available.

2011 malibu was acting like it was not getting enough gas or bad spark plugs. then the check engine light came and other indicator lights. had a diagnostics ran and said that the fuel pump had a pin hole. replace the fuel pump, got a tune-up ran good for a couple of days. went to start the car again and it once again started acting as if it was not getting enough gas and engine light once again came on, service esc, service traction. when driving on the highway it will sometimes slow down from the current speed. found a recall concerning the service esc, but the dealer said they do not think it has anything to do with that. this started when all of the code started popping up. *tr

Driving on bridge at 55 mph...felt like i had a tire blow, car somewhat lost power, then heard chime from dashboard message center. two messages appeared on message center.."power steering" and "esc service". noticed i had no power steering...made it to work.....not only did power steering go out, but i could barely turn corners and had an extremely rough time turning the wheels to park. it was as though i didn't even have rack and pinion steering...the steering was difficult like when your car dies. i went out to the car an hour later, started it, and all messages/warning were gone and i had power steering back. called dealership and they said to schedule appt so they could reserve a loaner vehicle due to recall. *tr

Currently there is a safety recall number 13036 on my vehicle. i was directed by gm to take my vehicle to the nearest dealership and have a diagnostic test ran on the vehicle for potential problems with the wiring harness. when the vehicle diagnostic test was done there were no issues found in regards to codes being displayed. this test was not the test that was supposed to be done according to a gm representative since they have no information on the recall itself, other then what was listed in the recall letter. when i expressed my concern for the safety issues since i have been experiencing them all along i was told i would have to drive the vehicle until parts were available. i was also told that the vehicle was safe to drive, regardless of the potential for an increased risk of a crash due to the circumstances of the recall. i also did not receive any information in regards to the test that was performed on my vehicle by the dealership, which i was told by the gm representative was also incorrect. ii was originally told by a gm representative that the parts were also available regardless of what the letter stated and that i should disregard that portion of the letter. this was also determined to be false as the parts are not available until mid august according to a gm rep at a later date. as of yet there has been no resolution to the issues i have experienced while driving and parked. these issues include the increased travel needed to stop the vehicle as well as the ecs being displayed as not functioning while parked and driving. although my wife and i both have expressed our concerns with the vehicles safety and its current issues gm has failed to provide any resolution to the problems or the issue with the recall, when they could simply authorize a rental or service loaner rom the dealership. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing the failure mentioned in nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). while driving, the vehicle decelerated and would not accelerate past 5 mph. in addition, the esc warning indicator illuminated. the dealer stated that the esc failed. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 65,000.

While driving my vehicle on the highway at about 60-65 mph its very hard to have stability in the vehicle. i have 4 brand new tires. the vehicle has been balanced and rotated. i also too vehicle to brake specialist who said everything looks ok to them. also while driving at this speed the vehicle engine will start shaking and the veh will drop from 65 mph to 20mph cause the speed control to drop automatically. my vehicle has never been in an accident and the right signal light has an electrical issue and air bag light is on. 4 new tires and every 2 weeks the air pressure on them is low i think it has something to so with the stability of the vehicle. this is my 2nd review about this car. i don't want have a wreck and kill me and my children. *js

While driving my 2011 chevy malibu a service esc service traction message came on then it says esc off traction control off. this happened one time & after car was turned off & started again, problem didn't occur again until a couple months later. then the message then was coming on almost everytime i drove the vehicle, & when the message was on the car would spit & sputter.trok it into the local shop they replaced the traction control sensor. this helped for a couple months, problem then occurred again, took back into shop they replaced the camphasors, this helped for a couple months. then vehicle became undriveable: rpms would drop to zero, car would loose all power while driving would need to shut car off & start again, spitting & sputtering of the engine & loosing power. took vehicle in they tested it and it ran codes p0300,p0204,p0203,p0202 & p0201 they contacted gm who recommended replacing the ecm. replaced ecm. a week later service esc/service traction message is now appearing off and on again. car will spit & sputter when message is on. this issue has been going on for over a year & no one can tell me how to fix it??? i can not afford to have my vehicle in the shop every week with the mechanics guessing as to what will fix this. there are many of these complaints out there & gm can not tell me how to fix this issue. i am now back to square one. i have a 4 year old vehicle that does not even have 100,000 miles on it and i can not trust it to take it anywhere. this issue needs to be resolved before someone gets hurt, very unsafe to have a vehicle spit & sputter randomly & loose all power driving down the road! very unimpressed with gm & my gm vehicle, will never own another gm vehicle again. *tr

While driving my car a service light came on. the message was "service traction" and "service esc". the car will loose power and act like it's going to die. i took my car to a chevrolet dealership on 2 different occasions and the first time they would not look at it because they could not figure out if it was under warranty. the second attend at the dealership they diagnosed the problem as the wiring harness and it needed to be replaced. on may 14, 2014 gm recalled chevrolet malibu's for the model year 2004-2014. i contacted gm about the recall and was denied help to fix the problem with my car. i informed the person i spoke with that my car had been diagnosed by a dealership with the same issue as the recall. gm informed me that i could pay to have the vehicle fixed out of my own pocket and maybe get reimburse at a later time. i explained my concern for the safety of my child that gets transported in the vehicle and they did not care. the lady on the phone just kept repeating that i could pay out of pocket for the problem. i have read online that it was all models recalled from 2004-2012 but i am still getting denied help. *tr

Since march 2014, i had instances where the chevy malibu i was driving warned me on the dash that i needed to service the esc. it would tell me esc turned off and traction control turned off. this message would disappear when i turned the car off and restarted. it started doing it more frequently so i called gmc on august 2nd. i had to wait 2 weeks until they could get me in to the dealer. this whole time my car was shutting off my traction control. the malfunction indicator light came on solid and stayed on for 3 days on september 12th. they paid to diagnose and found that my 4th cylinder was missing and was leaking 45%. on september 17th, they suggested $140 for a carbon coil flush to see if it could possible fix the problem. on september 25th they did the coil flush at 10 am. at 1:06 i got the message that esc active. i went on a 2 week vacation and did not drive my car. on october 12th, at 2:08pm esc warning and shut traction control off. october 13th, at 5am the warning indicator light came on solid. on october 27th, they replace my intake/exhaust valve on the left side. i have not received any warning lights since then, but i drove from august to the end of october with the car shutting off the traction control. i can imagine trying to drive in heavy rain and dying because i didn't have traction control when i needed it most. *js

2011 chevrolet malibu. consumer writes in regards to vehicle body control module connection system recall notice. *smd the consumer stated the dealer did not inform him of any recall. the vehicle would not start. each time, he went to the dealer, they stated nothing was wrong. on once occasion, in march 2014, the vehicle accelerated on its own. the consumer voluntarily surrendered the vehicle to the bank. *jb

I was driven in highway 40 mph suddenly i lost control of the cars' speed because the engine stopped responding to its normal functions. this ultimately lowered my speed down to 11 mph. this almost resulted in me getting involved in a high speed collision with the vehicle behind me. *tr

2011 chevrolet malibu experienced problems associated with the electronic stability control and was not drivable. *mw the consumer experienced a problem associated with the electronic stability control/ the check engine and esc lights illuminated. the vehicle would loose acceleration and the ability to accelerate while in motion. the consumer believed the problem she experienced, was the direct result of recall 14v252000. the consumer was informed, the repair that was performed, was not covered by the recall. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the electronic stability control warning light illuminated as the vehicle suddenly decelerated to approximately 20 mph, nearly causing a second vehicle to crash into the rear of the vehicle. the contact indicated that after stopping and restarting the vehicle, the defect was no longer present. the failure recurred the following day as the contact started the engine. vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 101,000. *tr

I called and made a complaint yesterday regarding my vehicle dropping from 60 mph to 30 mph in the midst of morning traffic. i took the car to the dealership and was told that i need to let the car sit idle whenever this happens for a moment and then it should reset and be fine. well, this happened to me 4 times this morning, 3 of those times my two children were in the car with me. the roads were slick this morning with rain/snow and my car first did this at interstate 35 and illinois, i pulled over for two minutes and then i was able to proceed. it did it again at interstate 35 and regal row and had to again sit on the side of the road for 2 minutes. i reached carrollton and it did it again on beltlline road and then on 161 and trinity. mind you, the first two incidences happened before daylight. the second incident also put us in danger of having an accident as an 18 wheeler was right behind me as the car began jerking and decreasing speed. i was barely able to move to the median before i was sideswiped. the first three incidences the car decreased to 30 mph and would not increase. on the fourth incident my car would not increase past 25 mph. this vehicle put me in much danger this morning, especially with the weather (snow) conditions in our area. *tr

I happened to be driving at a rate of 65mph and all of a sudden my car begins shaking terribly, my speed drops back to 20 mph and lights light up indicating "reduced engine power", "esc off", and something regarding stability control service. can i say scared out of my mind and trying to avoid an accident at the the same time as the car behind me had to pretty much slam on brakes to avoid hitting me. i had onstar to run a diagnostic check to be informed that it is my electronic throttle control system. i called the ourisman service dept in bowie, md and was told that this is not covered under my powertrain warranty, which i find to be totally ridiculous!! i will be calling gm to file a complaint and ask that this repair be covered or i will have to take other steps to seek some satisfactory assistance. a recall should be issued for this defect, as it is not a fault of the consumer but evidentially defected parts that are being installed by gm company...what are they waiting for before they take action...i guess someone has to suffer serious injuries or death before something will be done!! signed: not a happy chevy owner. *tr

My husband owns this vehicle and for months he would be driving and then all the sudden all these lights came on and the engine would slow down to about 10mph. he could have crashed multiple times. we took it to the dealer they changed a sensor and said it was because of the cold. then when it kept happening we took it back and they said that we needed a new throttle body and it happens on these cars all the time. my question is if this car has a history of this same part going at low mileage why is there no recall on this part. we now just had to spend $600 so my husband could drive safely to work and such and with our children. for the amount of money you pay for a vehicle it should work. *tr

Luckily i was stuck in wall to wall traffic due to bad weather on my way home from work. i attempted to hit the gas to inch forward and my car starting shaking and seemed to be idled up. my check engine light came on and my dash read engine powering down, service tracking system and my car would go no faster than 20 mph. the part isn't covered under warranty on a 3yr car and i have to pay $388.00 to have this fixed. *tr

I was driving my 2011 chevy malibu way too work , rush hour and unpleasant weather. as i was driving the car just slowed itself down, started to tremble and the ;engine power reduce / service traction warning lights came on. i was almost rear-ended since car just decided to reduce its engine power. i pulled over for a few minutes, turned car off and restarted but the engine light stayed on. car started to run smoothly, and then it happened again. i called into work and cautiously drove car to local dealership. i was told car will not be looked at til the following day. the service attendant calls me the following morning , to tell me the car was checked and needs throttle body replacement and is not covered by the manufacturer, due to it being an electrical/mechanical defect possibly caused by the cold weather. i asked why would the throttle body defect , be the consumers fault; i didn't know cars cant be out in the cold weather. so, i decided to look up the 2011 chevy malibu recalls/defects and found 22 of 57 complaints over the same car issue/problem/defect. so, i ask; why hasn't this been put up for a safety issue, a recall, and have this taken care of??? this can cause alot of accidents! as im sure the consumers who have experienced this engine power reduction have felt at that moment and time. so now im too pay $546.00 (estimated) too have this problem taken care of, since the manufacturer decided to use faulty/defective parts on these vehicles. i thought chevrolet was a dependable maker. all my friends, neighbors, and my parents have purchased chevys- from traverse- malibu's and they are all surprised this is happening. *tr
