'takata recall' the vehicle was stationary when i put the key in the ignition the light became dim. when i turned the key, i hearn a chime and the dash shows 'power steering' and 'service esc'. the car would not crank; only flicker n the dash and loose power.
Takata recall: my vehicle sensor are reading incorrectly. my check engine light won't go off, random light come on and off, my sensors is not reading my engine and engine location or tires. system is also reading there are no air bags or says passenger seatbelt is not in place when it is. frequently my wiring glitches and i can not control the mirrors or windows, ect. my coolant and oil constantly drains out but no hole is noticeable. my car exhausts and won't move like it is supposed to as well.
Service traction and esc off are the messages that pop up. the traction control light stays on. unable to disable enable/disable with the tc button. while driving the two messages appeared and the steering wheel was difficult to turn. the traction control feature won't turn off and the esc feature is off. on the nhtsa website there were 3 recalls for the 2011 malibu. i have a 2011 malibu and when i made a search with the vin it says there are no recalls. on vehiclehistory.com i made a vin search and the recalls were found. the recall on the 2011 malibu was for the electrical system and that there could be disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.
Last 3 yrs my esc and service traction light comes on. last aug 2016 had the car if for this replaced a brake sensor problem came back 3 weeks later. went for 2 more diagnostic test. could not find issue. may 2017 problem started again. in addition, when this service esc comes on my brake lights do not work. this is very dangerous. i am bring the car in again for another diagnostic. i am scared to drive. the light comes on during the warm months, either during the actual braking or when i am in a stop position holding down the brake. gm customer care has be of no help thus far.
The service esc and traction sensors flash, check engine light flashes. the car loses power and lurches and bucks. the car runs really rough and sounds horrible! the dealer said the fuel injectors needed $1700 worth of cleaning, but didn't mention any of the stuff we found from our research.
While traveling at a slow speed (betw 10-20 mph) on 3/20/17, the car started to shake, the service esc message light turns on, and service traction control light turns on (with message that car will power down). so, if i pull over to the side of the road and shut the car off (before it shuts down on it's own), wait 2 minutes for the computer to reset, then get rpm up quick (so the speed is quickly above the 20 mph), then it is wouldn't do it and i could get it to the mechanic. when the mechanic went to check it, the battery was dead, so no luck with computer scan. he put in new battery. so i drove it and it did it again. i took it to the mechanic and he checked it and he replaced the gas pedal (computer code indicated a bad sensor). however, it did not take care of the issue. brand new battery and still draining battery (overnight). mechanic thinks a relay may be staying open somewhere however isn't sure. currently not drivable due to the shaking and that service esc and service traction control messages come on with statement that vehicle will power down (while driving). first occurred on 3/20/2017 and is still occurring 4/20/2017 (mechanic hasn't been able to fix)! been dealing with a slow battery drain since purchased car in july 2016. if didn't drive car for 5 days, battery would be dead (4th day was still ok). then in march 2017, other issue started and the battery drain became much worse. now brand new battery and will drain completely dead overnight. huge electrical issue. car has 85,000 miles on it.
The engine starts to sputter , check engine light and other dash lights come on and vehicle quits running . had it in chevrolet garage and no code showed up they replaced a sensor told me it was fixed . problem returned , this has happened several times and still exists. very dangerous. never know when it is going to stall out.
About a year ago i was driving car going around 40 miles an hr and it would just die on me, no lights came up no warning. it happened at least 6 times and every time it happened it had it towed to dealership to get checked out. i've had fuel pump, fuel relay, cam shaft sensor 2 times and other things replaced. still same thing would happen. died again on me had it towed to a garage and my timing chain was broken, replaced that and cam shaft sensor again. drove away and it died on me again. the only way my car stays running is when cam shaft sensor is unplugged but engine light stays on. when car dies i have no lights that come on to tell me i have a issue, it just shuts off. i've been dealing with the car just shutting down on me for a year. i'm afraid to have other people in my car cause i don't know if or when it would happen again. when this happened i had around 92000 mile on car.
Engine reduced power message is displayed and the engine loses power while driving. service traction control light comes on. car may stall in the middle of a busy highway. check engine light comes on. engine code is p2135. it happens between 4-10 minutes after startup. when it happens we have to shut the ignition off wait a couple minutes and restart the vehicle which the vehicle runs normal at that point. this is a repeated daily process and still is not resolved. we removed this vehicle from highway use do to the unsafe condition. it is winter here in michigan and may contribute to the issue.. car has 130,000 miles. *tr
I was driving and the car began to shake and jerk, and then the alerts across the dash came up as "service esc", "service traction", and "engine power reduced". i took it to a chevy dealership and was told the throttle body needed to be replaced. after paying $550.00 for the repair the car seemed to work fine until recently, only two months after the initial repair the same exact thing has happened, and now the dealership is telling me that they do not know what is wrong with the car, there is no recall and i'll either have to trade the car in (which i can't afford to do) or just drive it and hope the problem will correct itself. i am beyond scared to drive it as my daughter is in the car with me, and i do not want to be driving a death trap down the highway. please help.
I was driving in the highway and my malibu stopped and appeared the image of traction control off and the motor was shaking and my light of check engine was on and my car did not advance more then 10 miles. *tr
I have been having an issue with my 2011 chevy malibu since the beginning of the 2017 yr. every time i slow down (20mph or less) or stop my car starts to shake uncontrollably and the esc and tracking light comes on as well as the check engine line comes on and starts blinking. also, the car looks like it is loosing power. once i try to accelerate, the car will not go fast at all. it is like it has to build power back up. it is now the summer time and i cannot turn on my ac because if i am driving less the 40mph, my car will just cut off. i have replaced everything under my hood except my engine. i took my car to numerous mechanics and one particular one told me i need a new engine. how? when i see too many people with this reoccurring issue. this is a 2011 how could there be a bad engine in all these cars. i tried to take my car to chevy due to a recall that is out for the esc on these cars and since my vin number did not match the location in which the recall came from, even though it is for a 2011 chevy malibu, they would not honor the recall. i am afraid i am going to get hit and killed. i am at a stopping point. my car tag expires in dec i need to find a resolution. i don't know what to do anymore.. to beat it all i still am making payments on the car. fml
Drove car this morning and couple miles later the car lost most of its power and service esc lights became illuminated as well as engine light too. now car is slower and shaking violently when accelerating. also shakes real bad when stationary. driving around 35-45 mph. can't drive now due to lost power and esc issues/ looks like it is a common historic issue with these malibu as internet is polluted with complaints about it and looks like gm can't find problem. as well gm tells me on the phone just now that my vin number is not part of any recall notice while the problems go back to 2003 and covers every other malibu except mine it appears. really? bought is local as a pre owned vehicle with only about 30k on it. sounds like gm is trying to skirt the issue of owning up to the problem. they have me on hold for some time now. help! *tr
The car hesitates on a dry straight road going 55 miles per hour, but also on wet roads going 30 too. the cruise control randomly does not disengage. most concerning for me is when i am at a complete stop and press on the gas to move forward the car randomly slows and shuts down without warning.
My vehicle does not always flash the no seat belt sign. when driving unbuckled, the no seatbelt warning sign will appear and flash. however, after just a few moments the warning light will turn off. there have also been instances where the warning light won't even turn on when the seatbelt is not fastened. *tr
My car has been having problems all year. i called and spoke with someone who in return was suppose to call cannon motors in oxford,ms to have the front head light on the driver side fixed because it was on recall. my father has replaced it 3 times and it keeps going out so the car was taken to cannon today and now its a different story. they was talking about charging 75.00 then they changed it to 500.00 to fix a headlight. i know the is an electrical problem going on with my car.
May 11, 2016 day 1 while driving car began to reduce speed on it's own. may 12, 2016 day 2 upon starting car the esc service light is on, it reads the "esc is off" car was stationary.
My 2011 chevrolet malibu is cranking, but not starting. i had a it towed to a repair shop, who ran a test on the fuel system, battery, alternator, but nothing was found. i researched it and found that the anti-theft system can stop your vehicle from starting. it seems that the anti-theft system locked after i was sitting in my car during lunch listening to the radio for an hour. i turned the key twice to reset the radio after it timed out. as i left work to go home it wouldn't start. i found out that if you reset the system, it will start after 10-15 mins. after sitting overnight at the repair shop, it started. here i am a week later and its doing it again, but now i'm getting a signal with a locked car symbol on the dash. it seems that that anti-system is locked again. i cannot find out how to reset it. i was not in the vehicle playing the radio at all that day. however, this issue happened to me a year after i got the car too after washing the car and listening to the radio. i forgot about that incident until now. i am seeing over 250 complaints about this same issue. there were some cars recalled, but mine does not have one associated with it. it gm recalled it on some, they should recall it on all, it's the same issue. i would like to know if they plan to do this, because i'm seeing and hearing they are no fixes at the repair shop. they try to fix it with expensive options, but the issue comes back. i read that some people car stalled when the anti-theft system locked. i don't want this to happen to me and my family. thank goodness mine was parked each time.
I have been experiencing issues with my 2011 chevy malibu. i was driving down the road when suddenly the motor started violently shaking and the dashboard information display would flash, "engine power reduced, service esc, service traction control, air bag lights and check engine light came on". this was an intermittent issue, it can sometimes go weeks/months without issues, but then out of nowhere it will start happening again. sometimes shutting the car off, waiting a few moments, and restarting would usually get it running correctly again. however, other times it will remain for several days. the issue has been becoming more frequent and staying longer as time goes on. when i started seeing the issue i looked up online to see if other people were seeing similar issues and found hundreds of people with the same year, make, model car having the same exact issue. i have seen issues started at 50k miles and up, but mine started doing this at approximately 72k miles. this issue has almost caused me to get in several accidents, and i believe this should be recalled as this is a major problem. here are some of the websites at which i found people sharing their stories of the same exact issue. [xxx] i have included a couple of images of a couple of the dash messages please help the most recent incident occurred 05/07/2016 but has been happening intermittently for a year or two, it started at 72542 miles but most recent happened at approximately 92k thank you *tr parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *cc
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 10 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the engine power reduction, the traction control and the esc warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000. the vin was not available.
I purchased a 2011 chevy malibu in 2012. since the purchase i've experienced issues with the electronic stability control system, the service air bag light has come on while my daughter was sitting in the passenger seat. i was told that the problem with that could possibly be resolved with the recall for the seat belt lap anchor tensioner cable. i have also had issues with the car stalling / losing power after coming to a complete stop and begin to accelerate again into on coming traffic. i have also lost total control due to the power steering going out while driving. when i took my vehicle into the dealership regarding the car stalling, i was told that they could not get the car to duplicate the problem and i left without anything else being don;. i still have the same problem. there should be a recall for this before someone gets seriously injured or killed. i also have a 2011 chevy cruze that i've had numerous issues with, not to mention all of the recalls on it. all of the above issues have been while the car is in motion, while turning, and on highway and city streets. i recently noticed that my back seat is leaking from somewhere. i contacted gm and was told to take it into the dealership. the tech at the dealership tells me that the leak is coming from the molding on the roof of the car and wanted to charge me $200 for the diagnostic after i clearly told them that the leak was not coming from the roof of the car. they took down the headliner anyway and said that they did a test and water could be seen gushing from this area, but yet my seat was not wet as i had told them where the seat gets wet at. there are so many problems with these malibu's i just want gm to take the car back so that i can purchase a different brand of vehicle.
Received messages of: service esc, service traction, service power steering, eng pwr reduced, engine disabled this morning while driving to work. engine lost all power, went into limp mode, had to pull to side of road to try and turn the engine off and on to try to reset. nearly caused accident from oncoming and trailing vehicles. this make and model needs to be entered into the recall.
1/26/2016 i got my camshaft solenoid fixed due to my check engine light coming on. when it started to shake real bad with the dash lights stating that my engine power was reduced, loss of traction (something to that effect) i instantly put it in the shop. then last week 3/4/2016 i was driving up to erie, pa from ohio, which is about 4.5 hours away. i say a good 40 minutes from my destination it happens again right on the highway. engine light comes on and the dash says that my engine power has been reduced and loss of traction (?). thankfully there was an exit near that i could get off at and as soon as i put my car in park it started to shake real bad. so i did what i did before and turned the car off to let it reset and then started it back up. it ran fine for the remainder of my stay until it came time for me to leave to go back home. this time i only got 20 minutes away from erie before it started acting up again, but it kept doing it. talk about being frustrated 4.5 hours away from home in your car. especially since i just got it fixed not too long ago. this needs to be on the recall list, because this is ridiculous.
Car intermittently loses power. warning light for traction control comes on. must pull over and let car sit for a minute before restarting.
Received messages of: service esc, service traction, service air bag, eng pwr reduced, engine disabled this morning while driving to work. engine lost all power, had to pull to side of road to try and turn the engine off and on, until i received the engine disabled message and after that the car would not start. had to have the car towed to nearest dealership.
I am having problems with the esc the service esc light keeps turning on and the car starts to jerk and they say mine isn't in recall but other chevy malibus are from the year 2003-2012 i thi they need to look into this further because mine is 2011 but not in the recall
Service esc, service traction, eng pwr reduced. this message has happened to me several times lately, most notably when travelling 70 mph on the interstate. engine loses all power no mater how far i press the accelerator.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 45 mph, the engine stalled and the vehicle shook violently. the traction and service esc warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle did not restart. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 123,000. the vin was unavailable. updated 05/11/16*lj updated 05/24/18*jb
Going 70 mph on interstate going to mpls and car flashes reduced engine power and suddenly slows down pulled over a total of 8 times to get home. had to pull over turn car off wait a little while start again and continue. check engine stayed on. i've been told it's the throttle body so i am replacing and hopefully able to get to work. this is a dangerous flaw on icy roads.
The car stumbles on dry roads in sharp turns, like clover leaf ramps getting on and off the interstate, when coasting or braking at 20-25 mph. this is an ongoing problem, but there does not appear to be a solution from the dealer. i'm concerned that this may cause an accident.
30 minute drive to work, in rain at approximately 32 degrees, vehicle was running good until i pulled into a parking spot and an error message appeared (reduced engine power). i later left and the service engine light remained on. i then received an error message (service esc) and later again received the (reduced engine power) while on the highway. it was snowing during this time. i was unable to fully accelerate but it felt as though the acceleration was not running well. i researched this issue and discovered many people/ chevy malibu owners having the same issue with no resolution; even after taking to dealer on many occasions. gm needs to recognize this issue and discover a resolution.
I was stop at a red light and my dash read service airbag. i started to drive off and the dash started flashing service airbag. when in motion and as i start ignition. also my seatbelt sometimes lock or not lock and is very loose as i adjust seat.
The violently shakes almost as if it is about to die. it doesn't go over 23-30 mph. the car accelerates while holding the brakes. a message displays saying engine power reducing, service traction, service esc. the car stalls while driving it on the street and highway. i'm scared of hitting someone while my foot is on the brake! my car is at 103k miles on it. i'm out of a car that i'm paying a note on. its out of warranty. i haven't even had the car for a while year yet. the check engine light is on as well. the code for the check engine light is c0242. this is a very dangerous electrical problem. this should be a recall! many chevy malibu owners are having or have had the same issue!
After reading the many many comments here, i can say i'm lucky. fortunately, i was not driving my car when things went haywire. i returned home from work today and my vehicle was fine. i had to run a few errands but when returning to my vehicle, i noticed this: vehicle wouldn't start. fast clicking sound when attempting to turn over. doors locked and unlocked by themselves during this time. service esc, service traction, and esc off appeared. vehicle has yet to start and now have no power whatsoever throughout the vehicle. very odd that this is not a current recall. help?'

Bought the car in february 2013. in june 2014 while driving on the highway it started saying service traction control . car stalled and stopped. it did this 3 times on the highway. changed tires . in july 2015 on the highway it did the same thing. got the full body throttle changed. in november 2015 had taken to another shop. langs tire and automotive. they changed the full body throttle again. now january 4, 2016. the car is stalling try push gas when this happens and doesn't accelerate. the service esc light is on now.. i also have 3 kids and a grandbaby that rides in this car. i'm just so irritated. then to see how many other people are having same exact problems. they should refund everyone their money back on these cars. evidently they were not made right in the first place.
Have experienced difficulties with reduced engine speed, check ems,and other related conditions since 2014. the car would immediately slow down, not pick up speed, and alarm would begin sounding. each occasion, i took into dealership and was told that it was something different on each occasion causing occurrence. on other occasions, dealership would say they could not replicate issue. i had one repair made. the car drove fine for a while to later start again. i was informed it was a sensor. on last occurrence, i had the throttle body replaced. the car is once again experiencing a sluggish condition when driving. the dealership once again stated they could not replciate issue.
My service esc, service traction, service engine lights came on. took my car to dealership where they couldn't duprivate the issue. $240. problem came bk the next day. took my car bk to shop with light on and they said i needed an engine flush. 180.00. problem still came back.took my car to another shop, bc i felt i was getting taken advantage of after being charged 180.00 just for diagnostic. this shop changed spark plugs and checked wires. 100.00. problem came back. got in touch w gm. no recall. no assistance until i took my car back to dealership. they kept my car for 4 days and finally told me i need a new motor! it's a 2011, with 110k miles and i need a new motor?? that it would be 4000.00 i left with my car, because i don't have that kind of money just laying around in hopes that it might fix the problem. driving a car that scares me bc the lights are constantly flashing at me all of the time now, car sputtering out while at low speeds or idle, co engine flashing, and my car acting like it's gonna die any minute! not to mention the gas it's consuming on top of the almost 700 i'm already out. this is dangerous and quite disheartening to but a car from chevrolet, it only be 5 yrs old and have this many issues with no resolve. seeing all of the other complaints similar to mine, someone is going to get hurt. please help
Car lost power at 65 mph than reduced power and engine light came on turn car off after trying to coast to ta stop with cars and trucks flying by honking there horn and flicking me off and i was helpless the cars motor was shut off because of the power reduce and esc than the traction control can on too all need to be serviced fine but than it did it all again after i got everything fixed and then the throttle body had to replaced again and peddle sensor and traction control sensor and still does it the car is trying to kill me and the new mechanic i took it to said he sees this a lot and its sometimes hard to fix because it comes back and than i read online the same thing i thought he was trying to get more money out of me why wont chevrolet help gm help government needs to step in and make these car places fix this stuff befor a lot of people get killed
On 12/23/15 approx 8:40 am, i was driving eastbound on kelly drive approx 40 mph. i was heading into a soft curve, when the esc came on and the steering wheel locked up. the car shook violently, jerking and swerving from left to right, going into the lane with oncoming traffic, and then jerking back into the lane i was originally in. the car jerked and swerved back and forth, approx 4 time. this lasted roughly about 10 seconds. the esc light went off and the car felt like it had decreased engine power after that. i came to a red light and the engine shook, shuddered and then settled down. i continued on for another 15 minutes to work and parked the car. i'm afraid to drive it because i could've hit another car, crashed into the side of the wall, or another car could've crashed into me

While driving on i 94 westbound, a message appeared service esc. next message was esc off. without indicator warning, car was off. i exited based on the jerking motion the car was making. i thought it sounded like the engine was not running. i made it to 8 mile/vernier exit. when i came to a stop for the red light, i realized the engine had quit and the car was not running. i was terrified as i blocked the right lane. cars traveling behind me had to break suddenly or swerve to go around me. it was a dangerous and frightening situation. i had to pay to have the vehicle towed home. it's sitting in the driveway and will not start. i was coming from therapy due to surgery recovery. i intended to make an appointment with the dealer. i'm afraid to drive it again.
Esc message starts and turns off intermittently. very dangerous driving under reduced power on highway trying to exit. seems to be in the electronics.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet malibu. while driving at various speeds, the check engine, electronic stability control, traction control, and electric power steering warning lights illuminated. the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. in addition, in rainy weather conditions, water leaked through the hood onto the brake lever and the steering wheel seized. the contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle, but the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Cruise control would not disengage until i hit the brakes hard enough to activate the esc. recall #14v252000 covered this problem but gm says my vin was not included. this is a definite safety issue and needs to be expanded to cover all malibu manufactured during the recall time frame.

Driving car about 30mph. noticed decrease speed, check gear shift to make sure in d. looked at dashboard, all lights were on. scrolling, power steering, service engine, then the power steering went out. made two turns without power steering. event three-four minutes. parked and turned car off. drove car to dealership for service, problem did not occur.
Takata recall...i have had problems with this electronic stability control/traction control for almost 2 years had it repaired once and now its doing the same thing also my head light on the passage side keep going out.
I was driving an my power steering went out in a large curve. 8 had to have the car towed but luckily was not injured. gm recently sent out an "extended warranty" on th power steering module only. this was replaced. in may of 2014 gm sent out recall 13036 that included my car. this recall is not pulling up on my vin. the letter stated that parts were not yet available for a fix. i have lights and bells that my electronic stability control is not working. they found at yhe dealer that at least once i have had a brake error. in the recall letter it states that the brake lights may function when i am not braking or they may not function when i am. i am afraid to drive my own car! please push for a resolution to this recall.
