While driving my service engine light came on, then "service esc", "reduced engine power", "esc off". the car then had reduced power and had to have a code reset. the code was p2135. one day it happened 4 times during my 45 minute drive home. the car loses power and makes it unsafe on the highway etc. *tr
When i went to start the car it started sputtering. it then had the service esc light come one. i turned the car off and went to restart it. it started shaking and sputtering and then said traction control. i went to try and drive it and it would not let me go over 10 mph. it also would hesitate for about 3 to 4 seconds. i had the vehicle towed to the chevy place. when i got home i had a letter in the mail discussing a recent recall on the vehicle. it seemed to have all the same issues that i had experienced in the letter. when the dealership called me the next morning they stated they believed it was something other than the recall causing the problem. they stated they would do the recall and let me know. after they did the recall they stated it still did not fix the problem and that it might be a fuel issue. i am waiting for the diagnostic test, but i find it very coincidental that there was a recall and my car is acting up, but everyone is telling me the two are not related. they are also telling me it is out of warranty and i am having to pay to have it fixed. it should not be having these issues with less than 55,000 miles. *tr
Went into shop for recall of the recall id # 103647 - electronic stability control on 2010 chevy malibu. when i got my car back from shop. i now get service air bags warning light all the time on my dash. *tr
Dealership states that all they have to fix according to recall 13036 is the body control module. the traction control and electronic stability control, illumination light flashing off and on saying service soon, although mentioned in recall letter, is not included and we must pay over $350 to repair to problem. *tr
2010 chevrolet malibu. consumer writes in regards to brake system recall notice and consumer seeks a loaner vehicle until parts become available. *smd recall# 14v252000. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control); however, the parts needed to repair the vehicle were unavailable. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.
I received a recall notice 1 week prior to this incident. recall #13036. i was almost rear ended when my brake lights failed. i was on my way home from work and watched my stability control and traction warning lights come on. i contacted gm and was told that no replacement parts are available. gm also stated that they are not responsible for towing or a rental even though it is a defect in the design and/or manufacture of the body control module. i have been without a car for 4 days at this point and gm stated that no replacement parts are yet available. my car is a shiny peice of junk that i can pay for yet cannot drive because of the defect. i am a veteran and i am absolutely disgusted. all of the above problems are directly related to the defective part. *js
While on the highway the service traction control warning light came on as did the esc warning light. i tried to engage the cruise control but it would not work. we stopped at a rest area and turned the ignition off for about 20 minutes. we resumed our trip with the cruise control engaged and traveled for approx. 10 minutes. at that point the warning lights illuminated and the cruise control would not work. every time we drive the car now, the warning lights now come on within a quarter mile. i saw a recall for this same problem but was told my vin number was not included.the car is at the dealers and will be repaired. hopefully. i think my car and many others should be under a recall. *tr
First occurrence i was driving down the road and my warning lights came on for esc off, service traction control, service esc at 50 mph. at first it would only come on once every couple weeks but now it comes on almost every time i drive it. it varies (speed doesn't matter) whether or not going down the highway or stopping in a driveway when it comes on but warning lights will come on when you touch the brakes. i also observed that the brake lights stay on while going down the road (when its dark outside) but when you apply the brakes the brake lights go off. i feel this could be dangerous if someone is following behind you and thinks that you have let off the brakes but you are actually slowing down. i don't think that they have an apparent fix for this issue as i see several reports from vehicles ranging from 2008 to 2012 online complaining about this same issue. it is intermittent. when you turn the car off after this occurs the lights will go off. sometimes only for a short period other times for a week weeks before it comes on again. i took my car to the local dealership but they were no help, didn't even test drive it. i was almost rear ended, other person in car screaming at me, yelling i have no brake lights. i just hope i do not have an accident. *tr
The traction control light comes on and stays on when i shut off the car it goes out ,also my brake light stays on also when im going around a corner the car pulls to the left and it feels like its floating almost i brought it in ad they said it was separation ,i just put new tires on it and it isn't right, also my electrical something is wrong the radio light will blink of then come on and go dim, there is also a almost grinding noise coming from thefront right tire ,i paid alot of money for this car and i wish i would have got something different there seems to be alot wrong with it ,i brought it in on warranty and they fixed brake light and that's it, and then they charged me for a loaner car, {friendlychev}178.00.how can i be charged for a loaner car ,and they didn't fix anything else when it wasunder warranty,i got scammed !!!! *tr
I was on my way to work and my cruise control cut off by itself then i noticed by brake lights were on. so i pulled over to the shoulder of the road and turned my car off then turned it back on and proceeded to work. my brake lights came back on. when i came home later that evening my brake light were working again, when i tried to use my cruise control it went off again by itself and i haven't been able to use it sense. now my brake lights stay on all the time i just hope nobody runs into the back of me. when i press the brake my brake lights go off. my inside light doesn't work with this happening to my car. the traction control light stays on all the time have tried numerous things to try and fix the problem. its getting to be a headache buy a car and now its dangerous i just hope i can get it taken care of before i get into an accident.
My service esc/service traction control indicator was flashing. it caused my car to stall, then the engine died in the middle of the road with traffic approaching behind me. i have had this problem before and it caused my brake lights to illuminate when not depressed and go off when the brakes were pressed. i am not sure if this was happening also as it was light outside and i could not see. the car started afterward and still periodically stalls or dies when the service esc/service traction control indicator lights up. as of 6-13-14, i have not received notice that my vin is affected by the latest recall for the brake light problem. *js
I called gm and was told that my car was included on the recent recall issued may 14, however there are no parts available yet to fix. i was also made aware that this recall fix would only fix the brake lamps and that the other issues i.e cruise control, electronic stability control, and traction control are not a part this recall. i am issuing another complaint due to reading many other complaints of this same issue and that need to be addressed by gm. this is a potential dangerous issue that can cause serious injury, not to mention with the brake lamps staying illuminated and turn off when the pedal is pressed currently. there should be an immediate recall since the issues included in the recent recall will not be addressed and has made me a dissatisfied gm owner. i hope the nhtsa will further investigate complaints and pressure gm to completely fix these defects immediately. *tr
All in one weekend (while out of town) first the vehicle would not respond to cruise control commands (engage or disengage) if engaged through the steering column controls. the service esc light keeps coming off and on at random while either sitting or driving. the esc tracking is turned off. brake lights will illuminate randomly when my foot is not on the brakes. tapping the brakes gets the light to turn off, but it turns on again 5-6 seconds later. when i put my foot on the brake to slow down or tap the brake the light does not come on. the brake lights are only coming on when i'm at a complete hard stop. this is extremely dangerous as i have over a 40 minute commute into the city each day. also, the seatbelt light and beeping is on even when my seatbelt is secured. i cannot afford to have these items replace, and i have 4 years to pay on this car! there is something seriously wrong with these items in my car. *tr
My vehicle was part of the following recall: * electronic stability control
recall for 2010 chevrolet malibu * recall announced
may 14 2014 * nhtsa reference
#14v252000 the recall was initially "repaired" in may 2014 at penske chevrolet in indianapolis, in. about a month later i had to take vehicle back because the esc error was still happening. i was told that the vehicle was no longer under recall because it had been "repaired", and that i would have to pay for the "repair" out of pocket. after some negotiation they agreed to perform the same "repair" for free. in 2016 the esc error started again. this time i took it to bill estes chevrolet in indianapolis, in. they didn't listen to my complaint or issue with the recall because my vin shows no current recall for the esc issue. they convinced me that it was a sensor issue and "repaired" the vehicle to the tune of $500+. within the week the vehicle again had the esc error, check engine light, loss of engine power, and engine bucking. returned the car to bill estes chevrolet and again my discussion about the esc error recall was overlooked. i was told the vehicle had a cracked manifold and damaged o2 sensor. they "repaired" the vehicle to the tune of $800. for the next week, everyday after driving the vehicle about 6 miles the esc error would occur. currently we are calling for an appointment to get this "repaired" at bill estes chevrolet. after much internet research, i am going to specifically ask that they perform again the procedure outlined in the recall. i think that this a recurring problem that may need to "repaired" often until gm/ chevrolet comes up with a permanent solution. for now my wife drives the vehicle to work more than 20 miles a day. at anytime because of this esc error, she could lose control of the vehicle and have an accident.
So about 2 months ago the service traction light came on briefly and didn't come back on for a while. then about 2 weeks ago it started going off almost everytime i drove. i brought it to the dealership that i bought it in kannapolis, nc called classic chevrolet on 5/3/14. they said i could pay 98.00 to get it hooked up to the computer reader, but the light was off so i decided i didn't really have 98.00 to waste. as it had been hooked up to a code reader when the light was off before and didn't read anything. there is an option to turn off the traction control so i was driving with it off. we went to michigan on 5/8/14 it was driving fine. light never came on. when we were in michigan it started going on again, again driving with the traction control off. it was hooked up to a computer and no codes came up and light goes off when you turn it off and never came back on our whole way home. nothing felt or sounded different with the driving. driving fine to drop off our son at practice this morning 5/17/14, turned on car to go pick him up and couldn't reverse, but would go forward. i had my husband and his brother push us out of the driveway and it was driving fine for the first 3 blocks, then started to chug and wouldn't shift correctly leaving a stop light. i turned around on a circle drive. we live on a culdesac so i pulled ahead of our house, so we could push it back in the drive way. when my husband came back out it was like locked, we couldn't push it in reverse. then it wouldn't go forward. my husband unhooked the battery and was able to reverse with struggle and pull into the driveway with struggle. during all of this, the brakes have been illuminating when not being pushed and sometime they don't even work. *js
I was driving my car down a city street and the service esc light came on and the reduced engine power light came on. the car's rpm's were surging back and forth. i did manage to get the car to my mechanic and get the throttle actuator cleaned off as he said it was dirty. now the service esc light intermittently is going off again and its been about two weeks. i don't want the reduced power to happen while i am on the highway. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, there was a reduction in engine power with the illumination of the esc and traction warning indicators. the contact maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off and upon restarting, the vehicle resumed with the engine warning indicator illuminated. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000. *tr
While driving the service esc light came on and my vehicle lost all power steering. i pulled over, turned car off and back on again, power steering came back to normal and lights went off only to come back on and lost power steering again. now i can hear a clicking noise coming from the steering column and the steering wheel is jerking. i will be contacting gm about this as i see this is happening to several 2010 chevy malibu owners. i have contacted the dealer who i purchased the vehicle from to no avail. not good! *tr
Brake lights come on when not pressing the brakes. cruise control turns off without tapping the brakes, traction control says it needs to be serviced . i cycle power to the ignition switch and the problem goes away for a few minutes then comes back on. this can cause an accident as the lights turn off when the brake pedal is depressed . *tr
We were driving on our way home from church my wife and i at 45 mph when we lost the power steering immediately without notice.the esc light came on. it was a miracle i was able to control the vehicle at the rate of speed that we were going considering i am a [xxx] year old diabetic. thank you jesus! *tr parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I have had many issues with the cam shaft sensors/actuators on my 2010 chevy malibu and have had to have them replaced now 3 times. when this occurs my car seems to surge and sounds like it is going to turn off. the first time was in january, 2014. i was at a busy intersection and was afraid it was going to die right there in the middle of taking off. somehow i made it a few more miles down the road before there was no other option but to pull over. i paid to have this fixed. the second time this occurred was in july, 2015. i was 6 states away from home and again was at a busy intersection when it began to surge and sounded like it was going to die. we made it to an auto store where the sparks plugs were changed and thankfully, we were able to make it home. however, after being home 1 week, i noticed the surging again and took it to a mechanic to have it looked at. the cam shaft sensors were replaced again. upon leaving the mechanic's shop i knew it still wasn't fixed because i could still feel it surging. a week later i took it to a chevy dealer who told me i needed the timing chain replaced and a new set of cam shaft actuators were put on this time. i have been told by the mechanic and the dealership that there have been many complaints about the cam shaft/actuators and i would like to see a recall put in place.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving at various speeds, the service esc, traction control, and reduced engine power warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle independently lost power. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not taken in for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 75,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle decelerated and the check engine, stability control, and traction control warning lights illuminated. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician reset the computer; however, the failure recurred shortly after. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but they were unable to diagnose the failure. the contact mentioned that the throttle body was replaced, but failed to repair the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 90,000.
Approaching 4-way stop sign and car began to jerk/could not accelerate and service traction/ esc light came on...had enough power to roll into a parking lot and shut the car off..restarted the car and it stopped doing this. i was able to contact a chevrolet dealer (i was on a 6 hour trip and this happened 2 hours into my trip:-( i was able to drive the car about 8 miles to the dealer. had to have a part called electronic throttle body. i also have another issue with the brake lights not functioning properly...being serviced now. *tr
While driving suddenly the car jerked (like a transmission error) and then the message on the display would show "service esc" and "traction off". i brought the car in first to run an electrical test, where they reprogrammed a sensor (cost=$158.95). a few days later the very same issue happened and at this time when i came to a stop sign i went to accelerate and my car had shut itself off. i then brought it in where the found codes regarding the manifold absolute pressure (map) sensor problems. the service place then monitored both the computer data for the map sensor and the actual sensor data during test drive and found that when the problem occurs the computer data drops out but the sensor data remains the same, they suggested that it could be a possible wiring problem, and i agreed to have them replace the sensor.(cost+$275.15). nothing happened until a few weeks later and the very same issue occurred. my husband played around with some wires and had noticed that there was a possible way that condensate could get into where the sensors were and so he fixed that issue. i have not had this issue since then. just wanting to see if there is a recall for this problem and to get a proper fix. *tr
1. the service light comes on indicating service traction and/or esc. it stays on until the engine is turned off and may stay off for some miles or some days. then it comes on again while driving or standing at a red light. now it comes on every day. i took it in several times, but it never stays on, therefore the service dealer doesn't find an issue. i have paid for parts to be replaced, but it has not fixed the issue. 2. service air bag light comes on and off similar to the service traction control light. i have had the airbag fixed under recall previously and now it is happening again. when i start the engine i can hear a whistling sound as i assume the airbag disengages. *tr
Driving down the highway and the cruise stopped working. shortly after that happened the traction control indicator and abs light came on. a message appeared to have those items serviced. this lasted for the remainder of my 20 minute drive. i started the vehicle back up after sitting for several hours and the lights were off and no message. this happened 4 more times until december. i did not notice that the brake lights stayed on until i was driving at night. i pressed the brake pedal and the brake lights would go out. the brake lights would come back on shortly after i depressed the brake pedal. there were times when just the cruise control would stop working and the brake lights worked incorrectly. *tr
The traction control & service electronic stability control (esc) lights were coming on. also, the steering column angle sensor was found to be corroded, which may have caused the lights to stay on.
8/29/2014 cruise control was not working on car along with traction control and abs warring lights going off. car was taken to a gm dealership to be looked at was told that rear speed sensors were not working and paid 200 dollars for a repair. didn't even make it home and the same problem started happening along with brake lights that will not go off. car was taken back to the dealership and this time they found frayed wire and fixed it for no charge. this still did not fix the issue. was taken to another dealership charged a dx fee to tell me it was the bcm. finally a recall was issued and when the part came in my care was taken in for the recall repair and this still did not fix the issue. i am paying for a care that i cant even drive. the brake lights will not go off and gm says that i can bring it in if its not from the recall i will have to pay another fee to have a dx done on it. just really aggravated never again will i buy a gm product. asked what i was supposed to do in the event of a crash resulting from others not able to see if i am stopping and was advised that gm would then be responsible...updated 01/06/15 *bf *tr
I went to leave one morning and my car would not go into gear. only when i pressed the brake pedal completely to the floor would it finally move into drive. after driving it a day or two my service traction and my service esc lights have been coming on since july. and now today my cruise control stopped working an also my brake lights are not working correctly. when the car is in park they are off and will not come on. when the car is in drive they are on constantly. *tr
When i start driving my car at a low speed the service traction control light comes on saying service esc. then it turns the traction control off. while this is on you can't use the cruise control, the car shakes, and the rpm's fluctuates abnormally. also, when i turn the car off and turn it back on the light is off until i start moving again. *tr
The service esc and traction light came on. i took the car to the dealership to be serviced. the told me it would cost about $700 to fix the issue. two days later the light was back on. i called the dealership again and he said "oh that is bad." i took it back in and he apologized for not checking another option regarding this service. he told me it would cost another $500 to replace the electronic stability control module. this all happened about 2 months after the warranty ran out. i have been researching and this seems to be a common issue with the 2010 malibus. the dealership also told me that this was a safety issue and that the brakes could lock up while driving down the highway. *tr
Coming to a stop on an off ramp, brakes failed couldn't stop. (it had been raining). 2nd incident on june 26, 2013, going down highway and service traction light with sec light came on and car was powering down and steering was difficult. called landmark service center in taylorville, illinois they told me to turn the car off, then restart (of course lights went out) and drive it to the nearest gm garage. (i was out of town at the time). when i arrived at the location they put it on the computer and of course nothing showed up because the lights were not on. on wednesday i took may car to landmark in taylorville to have the oil changed and to see if they could check on the problem. and true to form the computer showed nothing because the lights were no on. but was told if this happened again to go to the nearest service center and don't turn the car off. i've had this experience and it is very dangerous when in traffic. and am scared to drive the car out of town. i like my car and want to keep it but if the problem is not fixed someone may get hurt. but before that happens i will trade the car and i assure you that i will not by another gm product and will tell everyone of the problems i had. *tr
Brake lamps intermittently flash or stay on without the brakes being applied and the cruise control disengages. the warning lights for electric stability control fault and traction control also display. *tr
I have taken my car to the gm dealer three times in the past year. each time they stated that they had repaired the "brake signal" and that was the problem. however, even with the current recalls for the same problem, when i called gm dealer last week, they stated that the "charges would be at least $150 to connect to the computer and run diagnostics". well, since i have already spent $500 for the last 3 visits, where they did not listen to me and fixed something was not torn up, why would i waste money on the same issue. there is a recall.. gm states that the recall is not for my specific vehicle, although the problems i have had for one year are the same problems they are recalling the 2010 chev malibu for at this time. supposedly, they will recall mine later.. i guess i just wait and hope i do not have a wreck until then. driving along the highway at any speed, the car will suddenly feel as if i have pressed the brake pedal and pumped it. the esc and service traction lights then come on. the brake lights then come on when i do not have the brake pedal pushed. when i do press the brake pedal the brake light goes off. i have had to have my brakes changed several times since this began. it also uses more gas since my car thinks i am riding my brakes and pressing the gas also. *tr
I have been going through the same issue with my car for about 3 months now. i have had a issue with the esc & service traction light. i took it to the jim ellis chevy dealership ( paid $105 for diagnostic) and they told me it was the fuel injector, i told them that i had their fuel injector ( cylinder 1) replaced. they told me because it was aftermarket that i had to pay $267 to replace it. i took it to a local mechanic had him put in a gm injector and still was having the same issue, the mechanic replaced the engine wire harness, coils, shift solenoid, and none of this fixed the problem. he then stated that the base of the issue was the computer, i took it to get a second opinion and the next mechanic stated the same thing, after talking to another mechanic from superior chevrolet, its the computer. i took it to superior chevrolet and had another diagnostic done ( which was another $100) and asked them to please look at the computer since i was told twice it was the issue. they told me it was the injector harness and it would cost $320. this issue has been ongoing for too long and looking online many others are having the same problem, something needs to be done about this, customer are spending lots of money on an issue that seems to be ongoing. *tr
Driving my 2010 chevy malibu at about 35mph entering a curve with brake pushed the esc activated and felt like the brakes wasn't working. since march 2013 it does this continuously off and on then it turns itself off and says service esc, but no codes found. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the ecs warning light illuminated as the vehicle independently decelerated to 20 mph. the vehicle also failed to respond to the contact's attempts to accelerate. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that they had received additional complaints for the failure, but not enough to issue a recall. the manufacturer offered no additional assistance. the failure and current mileage was 104,000.
I've had my car in the warranty repair shop 2 times in 2012 for the esc light coming on, used to come on every few weeks...as of date today, it comes on every time you turn the car on. first occurrence i was driving down the road and my warning lights came on for esc off, service traction control, service esc at 20 mph. they've replaced 3 parts on my car and today the same lights service traction control and service esc have come on once again. it varies (speed doesn't matter) whether or not going down the highway or stopping in a driveway when it comes on but warning lights will come on when you touch the brakes. i also observed that the brake lights stay on while going down the road (when its dark outside) but when you apply the brakes the brake lights go off. i feel this could be dangerous if someone is following behind you and thinks that you have let off the brakes but you are actually slowing down. i don't think that they have an apparent fix for this issue as i see several reports from vehicles ranging from 2008 to 2012 online complaining about this same issue. i am to take my car back again for service next week to hopefully get it repaired but i am not so sure they are going to find the problem after already having it in there so many times for the same issue. it is intermittent. i am sick to my stomach dealing with something that feels as if is never going to be fixed. its a huge hazard driving in the city and your brake lights are completely backwards. new bulbs have been changed, new switch, now what? its scary and stomach turning knowing my car is 3 yrs old and a disaster!!! *tr
My 2010 chevy malibu loses power steering at low rates of speed when the steering wheel is moved in either direction. this has put my family in dangers way on multiple occasions. gm/chevy recently had a recall to fix the issue i am having however they will not cover the 2010 model under the recall. the 2008-2012 models of the chevy malibu use the same electronic steering parts however gm feels they only need to recall the 2008 and 2009 models. this is urgent that this be addressed with gm and is a matter of public safety. i also will be writing my local and state regulators in the hopes that this may save lives and document my complaints. please see gm recall below. again this does not cover the 2010 model even though it uses the same parts! this has been independently verified by 2 certified gm mechanics as well as 2 local mechanics. if we lose one more life because of gm's careless actions then our system does not work. i can be reach directly by email or at [xxx]. please help. if power steering assist is lost, a message displays on the driver information center and a chime sounds to inform the driver. steering control can be maintained because the vehicle will revert to manual steering, but greater driver effort would be required at low vehicle speeds, which could increase the risk of a crash. models subject to safety recall are the: chevrolet malibu: all model year 2004 and 2005, and some model year 2006 and model year 2008 and 2009 vehicles service parts installed into certain vehicles before may 31, 2010 under a previous safety recall depending on the vehicle, gm will replace free of charge either the power steering motor, the steering column, the power steering motor control unit or a combination of the steering column and the power steering motor control unit. *tr parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *cc
Following the recall fix for id#93696 i experienced the "service enc" warning. a short time later i began experiencing the "traction" warning coming on. i now have problems when trying to use the cruise control feature. and just recently i get a intermittent dinging sound, that sounds like the seatbelt warning, that comes on in spite of the seat belt being hooked securely. i have repeatedly brought these issues to the attention of the ruda chevrolet dealership only to have them blow me off. i became persistent and contacted gm directly and they instructed ruda to replace the break pedal position sensor. however this fix has not made any difference. i continue to have the same issues. i am becoming increasingly concerned regarding the safety of this $27,000 vehicle. i understand that i may, at some point, also experience brake light issues as well. something needs to be done. i am a pancreatic cancer patient who has to drive 2 hours one way to see my specialist. i have enough stress in my life!!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while depressing the brakes, the brake lights failed to illuminate and erroneously illuminated when the brakes were not depressed. the vehicle was driven to a dealer where it was found that the brake switch failed. the contact also stated that the traction control warning light erroneously illuminated. the vehicle was repaired. the failure recurred several times after the repair. the manufacturer was not contacted about the issue. the failure mileage was 42,000 and the current mileage was 43,000. the vin was not available.
Purchased vehicle at 30k miles at beginning of year and within the same year towards the end of the year upon start up the vehicle begin making a loud exhaust noise (several occassions). i took the vehicle into the dealersship on two seperate occassions and they were not able to diagnose it and gave the excuse the the older the vehicle gets the more apt it is to make noises and such. i'm a very educated young lady and i knew that statement to be just as false as two left shoes on a left and right foot and thus expressed that fact to the dealership who should be educated in the car that they are selling when it comes to body parts and likely problems. needless to say, after hitting the 70k mileage mark the vehicle air bag light begin to come on and off and still does; furthermore vehicle upon start up of the engine would lag as if something was not catching and preventing the vehicle from starting up properly, thus i would have to hold the key turned longer than usual. i am not satisfied with this vehicle at all. at 70k miles this vehcile should still be running flawlessly as it is regularly maintained and tuned-up. purchasing this vehicle was an epic fail. i am shocked that certain models and years have not been permanently recalled and replaced by a vehcile of owners choice from chevrolet (needless to say i probably would not purchase another chevy car) for the headeache we have had to endure. i have an infant and a toddler and the uncertainty of vehicle operation on any given day at any given time on a practically new vehcile needs to be the least of my concerns! *tr
While driving my 2010 chevy malibu lt (ecotech engine), the engine starts to stutter and the esc shuts off and claims it needs servicing. the esc will go on and off randomly. the check engine light comes on as well. i have had the codes read multiple times and changed multiple parts but to no avail. it keeps stating that there is a misfire in cylinder 1. have changed spark plugs and coil packs. the stuttering happens at all speeds, including while accelerating and idling. there's also been times of tough steering as if the power steering is not working properly. i have noticed it happens more often in late spring through summer when the temperatures outside are higher. i have checked and there is not a crack in the head gasket or the head. *tr
The brake lights on our 2010 chevy malibu, turn on while driving but turn off when the brake pedal is pressed. after tapping the brake pedal, the brake lights then stay off for approximately 4 seconds, then illuminate on their own again. when this occurs, the cruise control does not work and the service esc and service traction warnings are displayed. this problem occurs intermittently and for varying periods of time. *tr
There was an intermittent which caused the esc and traction control lights to flash, the alarm to sound and the words that they were off plus the words traction control and esc service to come up. at the time the cruise control disengaged. this occurred several times. i brought the vehicle to the dealer on sept 16th and was told that i shouldn't be concerned about this intermittent. but it occurred again and then on 10/2/13 the warnings stayed n permanently for three days frightening my wife. i brought the vehicle in for service today and they said they fixed the problem using some dielectric grease. *tr
This car has had a history of malfunctioning brake lights, esc and traction control system failures over the past year. the car has been in two different dealerships numerous times without repairing the root cause. in may the car was rear ended causing significant damage. the failure of the brake lights to operate correctly may have been a factor. the brake lights operate sporadically. the car is not currently safe to drive after spending last week at a dealership service department. being a licensed professional engineer it is my opinion that there are several engineering design deficiencies that are not addressed by the repair procedures listed within the service manual. i recommend that these cars be recalled as a car with no known problem can develop this problem without warning placing the driver in harms way. an 8d corrective action request would require a problem containment of issuing a recall immediately of any vehicle that has experienced this problem. *tr
I purchased the 2010 malibu, used from the dealership- they were the owners previously. i purchased it in oct. 2011 and have taken it to the dealership 8 times in the 9 months of owning it. one time the entire driver side floor had 1+ inches of standing water in it, after a rain. the esc light continued to come on and off- they couldn't locate any issue- the first 2 times i took it in for that. the oil life sensor never went off for service- i was at 10,000 miles since the last oil change. i took it to my real mechanic to have fixed. the battery went totally dead in it one day- they said it had bad cells in it. and it would also stall, and when going about 40 mph not accelerate, on inclines. that's when the esc light would kick on, sometimes, and the rpm's would go up and down, all over the place. finally made the dealership keep it until they figured out something- they kept it a few days, and called me numerous times asking me unrelated questions- they thought i was nuts, because they couldn't reproduce the issue. finally- they told me a wire in the fuel injection had come loose. my car was so called 'certified' by the dealership- but i don't think they did any of the tests, or else they would have found some of these things themselves. *tr
1. difficulty putting car in gear need to put excessive brake pressure to change gears 2. "service esc" "service traction" light flash daily 3. brake lights are often engaged and or won't engage 4. cruise control won't engage effectively all of these things happen while driving and in a parked position
