The rear passenger door lock does not open or close with the fob. the rear passenger door lock has to be opened or closed manually. *tr
As i was driving down the street my steering wheel locked up and i was unable to move it to safely pull over to the side of the street. i just had to stop in the middle of the street and turn my car off and then back on. it then reset it and i was able to drive again. the "service esc" light came on and then "power steering" light came on. this is not the first time this has happened. it has happened before right in the middle of an intersection. where again i had to turn my car off and stop traffic and then turn it back on. i believe this could pose a serious safety issue. when your vehicle to stops because you cannot steer another vehicle can easily hit you and cause a severe accident. there should be a recall on this since it seems to affect a number of 2009 malibu's that i see all over forums and blogs. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 40 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn without warning. in addition, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v153000 (steering). the failure mileage was 68,000.
First issue happened with the driver low beam not working then work again a few days later. the problem keeps going on from passenger and driver low beams. i've noticed the connectors were melted and changed them and they would both work for a few weeks then one would go out again. second issue is the passenger airbag doesn't turn on when passengers are in the vehicle. it works sometimes but not everytime. third issue is the passenger side door locks. the door locks work sometimes and again not everytime like they should. there's a lot of people reporting these same issues but nothing gets done unless it's out of our pockets.
First issue noticed was passenger airbag not on while passengers are in front and rear of vehicle. the passenger airbag sensor works 50% of the time. second issue started close to the same time as the airbag. when using the keyless entry or the electric lock buttons inside the car , it fails to lock or unlock the passenger side doors. after 30 minutes or so it will then lock the doors. the latest issue started on the 19th of november 2014 with the driver side lowbeam not working as like it's blown. the car has been sitting for two days since and now the lowbeam is working but, it's dim compared to the passenger lowbeam. i believe there's a short in the electrical system from manufacturer. there are many forums online about these issues online from other owners. this car has not had any aftermarket installations of its electrical components and the battery is new. chevrolet needs to take the time when manufacturing their vehicles instead of cutting corners. their customers safety should be valued better than worrying about sales. you would think after going under they would take the time to do things right the first time. i highly doubt i will ever purchase a vehicle manufactured after 2002 from chevrolet due to all of the electrical components that fail or cause serious injury or death. please fix these issues or lose a 15 year customer. *tr
While driving my 2009 chevy malibu, i abruptly got a warning message on my dash board which contained the phrase engine power reduction at which time my car completely shut off in the middle of a busy highway. the car had no response even though all the battery operated items were working the car still would not turn over. after further research it has come to my attention that a large group of individuals have had this happen and this error message come up.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the rear interior power door locks failed to unlock when the key fob and power lock module were activated. the doors failed to unlock manually. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
The rear door lock actuators( both doors ) stopped functioning within several months of each other. this made it such that the rear doors could not be opened without manually lifting the lock button from inside the vehicle. when a child was in a car seat the only way to open the rear door was to get back in the car, put the key in the ignition, turn it to the accessory, lower the rear window, get out of the car and reach in to pull up the lock button. fortunately we never had an emergency situation where this could have been a critical life threatening problem. we have had the actuators replaced ( at significant expense ). my concern is many individuals, probably can not afford the cost and would forgo the repair, thus leaving the problem and its possible consequences there. *tr

Recently, i had my 8 year old grandson strapped in the back seat, right side, with his seat belt on, in my car. when i stopped and parked the car and turned the car off, all the doors automatically unlocked normally except the one in the back where my grandson was sitting. he tried opening the door from the inside and it would not open. i tried opening it from the outside, and it would not open. i tried the button on the drivers side door, and the door still would not open. i tried using the remote control, and it still would not open. the only way i could get the door open was by crawling across the back seat and opening the lock by hand by pulling up on the manual door lock. there is a child safety lock on the door panel but it was in the off position. this vehicle has a digital read out on the dashboard telling you the tire pressure, amount of mileage left on the oil change, miles per gallon, and various other information, but nothing indicating that one of the doors will not open. it is my opinion that this is a very dangerous safety issue in the event of an accident or fire. in a serious situation of life or death, it may be impossible to get the back door open if the door will not open automatically, using the button on the drivers door, or with the remote control. there is no way to know the door will not open since there is no warning on the digital panel. i have no idea how long the lock had not been operating properly since there is seldom anyone in the back seat needing to exit via that door. i feel this is a serious defect in this automobile and the ntsb needs to investigate and determine whether the automatic door locks on this car are unsafe and unable to open, except manually, in an emergency, and require some sort of warning when the automatic door locks are not working properly. *tr
While driving my door locks started locking and unlocking. now they won't open or close in the rear with the key fob. i have to do it manually. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact heard a clunking sound from the rear to the front of the vehicle. the power steering warning indicator illuminated. in addition, the contact discovered that the speedometer was not registering the speed of the vehicle. the dealer was unable to diagnose or repair the failure. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was unavailable.

2009 malibu began having issues where the bas light would come on in error. a recall has since been put out for this. around this same time, the car began having blinker issues. the right blinker would not turn off after a turn and the left blinker would not stay on without being held down. *tr
The door locks began locking and unlocking while vehicle was running and in park. after turning ignition off and then back on, door locks continued locking and unlocking while driving as well. then, the door lock switch on driver's door stopped working. last time this issue started and continued with key fob no longer working, and only way to lock doors was manually and unlock driver's door with key and manually unlock remaining doors. dealer replaced door lock actuator and key fobs to fix problem. why is this happening again and within a few months of already having been fixed once? is there a recall for this? i do not want to pay for same repair repeatedly. *tr

The break lights turn on without the pedal being press down while the car moving . also while the car in not moving and the engine running. also another problem that i have is that tire monitor light come on all the time without the tire needing air.
Rear door locks just quit working, doesn't work with key fob or inside switch. *tr

All four (4) doors on my 2009 malibu will not always lock or unlock from the remote. also they will not always lock or unlock when vehicle is put in gear or out of gear. i have had them to not unlock all the way and could not get the doors open at all. you have to keep using the remote or key to keep locking or unlocking until they decide to open. also, i have had them to not unlock and could not get out of the car, this is the worst situation to be in. talk about an extreme safety hazzard. what will happen if there is an accident and this happens, g.m. needs to do something about this. *tr
Having problems with 2009 chevy malibu lt. brake lights stay on constant, and turns off when brake pedal is pressed. what ever the problem has effected the traction control and cruise control. been to dealer twice. first time they put in a new brake switch and said it was faulty and put some gel on some connectors "250$" week later having same problem. took back to dealer. know there replacing wiring and connectors saying its a wiring issue "645$"... *tr
The locks worked fine up until a few weeks ago now none of the power lock buttons work, my doors lock and unlock randomly even while driving ... this has become a huge pain... i have reached out to several chevrolet dealers and was told that this is normal wearing on my car. everyone i have spoken to who drives the same vehicle have all had the same issue and i feel like gm should cover the cost of the repairs!! also they should find out why this is happening in their vehicle. *tr
Car is having electrical issues locks going up and down without pressing power button car also alarming off also have taken care to be serviced for misfiring and jerking when driving. *tr
After filing two complaints with you, and receiving a recall alert from you, i am being told by gm that my vehicle, a 2009 malibu built between the years specified in your recall notice, is not included in the recall you alerted me about. how is this possible? the referenced recall # 14v252000, as he experienced the same malfunction, as described in the recall. the consumer has invoices, that date bate to 2011, where he had to take the vehicle, back to the dealer several times, for an inoperable cruise control and esc lighting illuminating. updated 07/16/14
Rear door locks will not open when car is put in park also will not open with remote.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. after the dealer repaired the vehicle per nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control), the contact experienced a failure. the contact notified the dealer several times that the brake lights remained illuminated when the brake pedal was not depressed. when the brake pedal was depressed, the exterior brake lights failed to illuminate. the dealer (cox chevrolet, 2900 cortez rd w, bradenton, fl 34207, (941) 749-2699) was unable to replicate the failure and stated that further diagnostic testing was required. the contact felt as if the recall repair provided no solution. the manufacturer was notified and provided no assistance. the approximate failure mileage was 84,000.
While night driving at 55 mph on a busy, wet highway, i noticed in my rearview mirror that the center brake light had illuminated on my car. i checked to see if the pedal was stuck by lifting it with my foot; it was not stuck. then i quickly tapped the brakes - the brake light went off only to re-illuminate seconds later. i quickly exited the highway as motorists were beginning to beep at me. i continued to press and release the brake pedal on the off ramp, only to receive the same response from the brake light system. while driving, the brake light would stay on; upon slowing or stopping, the brake light would go off. i have looked at this issue online and see that this is a common complaint from owners of the 2009 malibu. a recall has been in question since march of 2013; i stress that the nhtsa needs to address this issue, as the malfunction is severe enough to cause fatalities. *tr
Problem with ignition switch car will not start now, they have recalled up to the 2008 mailbu but not the 2009 mailbu (ltz) for this issue. resolution to the issue would be replacing the switch with a new one not what they are doing now drilling a hole in the key, really. chevrolet has a massive issue with a lot more cars that need to be recalled which have no been yet. if they want to keep there customers they need to repair correctly and recall and fix it the right way. my call needs a recall for this now. *tr
Passenger doors (front and back) stopped locking/unlocking. although they click to reflect that it is attempting, it does not complete. i have read on countless sites that this is a problem for many 2009 chevrolet malibu's and voicing my complaint as well in hopes that gm is forced to deal with their growing and continued issue. *tr
Door will not open. i was locked in my own car at the gas station. i manually pulled up on the door lock and still couldn't get out. i rolled the window down and pulled on the outside door handle release and nothing. after pushing every button several times and putting the car in and out of park i finally managed to get out. 2 days later the same thing happened but i was outside the car. i had to crawl from the passengers side to get into the drivers seat to get to work. since the door locks were acting up i pulled the fuse and decided to do it old school and use the key to lock and unlock my car. good idea until i was leaving work and the key wouldn't open the door. great!!! hey, i will just unlock the passenger door and climb in. did you know there is no place to insert a key to unlock the door on the passenger side? i do now. after much cursing i managed to get in using the key but then the door wouldn't close. oh my god i thought. i had to use 2 bungee cords to hold the door close so i could drive the car 25 miles home. i didn't mention that the back door quit working over a year ago did i? i think it is time for a recall. being locked in your car in not a good thing. imagine if the first responders couldn't get you out of your car if you were in a accident because of faulty door actuators. i see multiple complaints of this defect and now it is time somebody has to step up and do their job and address this issue. apparently somebody has to die first and sue everyone involved to make something happen. *tr
I received a recall notice number13036. to my understanding the recall has not been sent out to the current dealers to deal with the recall. my car brakes lights illuminated and the traction control light comes on while i'm driving putting my life in danger. took the car to the dealer several times, but since the lights were not showing any defect they said there was nothing they could do. i have contacted the dealer several times, but since the recall is still in the notification process they tell me there is nothing they can do since the parts are not available. if and when i take my vehicle in if the lights are not coming on while the car is running or in park they told me there is nothing they can do. what am i left to do at this point i'm very concerned that before this is all over someone is going to lose their life. *tr
