A little over a year ago we noticed the drivers side power seat seemed to be moving at times. it has since broken loose from part of the frame. as long as the seat is in the down position it sits kinda steady. any attempt to move it up or down causes it to become dislodged. it happens regardless of the motion of the car. about the same time frame, the rear door locks started acting up. depends on their attitude of the day, they either will not lock or unlock by remote or switch. only way to access the rear seat area is to roll the window down and reach in from outside to unlock since the lock button is not located in a handy spot. could see a large problem in an accident with children in the backseat needing to exit quickly. have not reported to dealer as the blogs have numerous complaints and stories that are being ignored by the manufacturer. seat malfunction is a huge safety concern if any other bracing fails and car is in motion

Engine power reduced and car cranks but wont start. it also slowed down when that engine power reduced came on almost had an accident and my family was in the car.
There is something faulty in the system which is causing the battery to become completely drained if the car sits 2/3 days without being started. i have replaced my 3 times and still something in the car is continuing to drain the battery. there is hundreds of people all over the internet that are having this same issue. not even the dealership could fix the issue. i am not physically leaving anything on in the car but it continues to keep dying. this is definitely a defect with this car that needs to be fixed. my car is a 2009, and it has been dying 2011.

Driving at 65 mph on the interstate and esc light, check engine light, and security light came on. the speedometer needle and the fuel guage needle started jumping sporadically and then i lost power for a moment and could not accelerate. had to coast to the side of the road. very dangerous situation. turned the car off and restarted, and it happened numerous more times. had to end up having it towed. it is in the shop now, and they haven't determined what is wrong yet.

My door locks are locking and unlocking while i'm driving and also while the vehicle is parked.
Every now and then the dash lights will either go dim or brighten without touching the control.
When parked or when driving, doors randomly lock and unlock. have seen several other complaints online from consumers around the country with this exact same problem. they all say that chevrolet dealerships refuse to repair at their cost and that cost is too high for most consumers ($300/lock). i also believe this is a safety concern, my grandchildren often ride with me, what if they open the door on the freeway?! locked inside the car while it's on fire?! to say that this is not a safety concern is simply gross negligence! negligence case law has shown that failure to act with prior knowledge is complicity of/to manslaughter, and this turns an accidental death into manslaughter. gm! wake up, get into gear here. does your new ceo really want to deal with another recall cover up??!!!!
The ignition seems to shutoff going down the highway. i was doing 65 mph down the interstate and the car all of sudden shuts off for a second. the security light appears on the dash. then it fires back up and continue down the highway. happened multiple times on trip home. read on line how to fix the security light. did that ran fine for about a week. then did it again on another trip. believe it is the same issue that the other malibus are having with the ignition. just haven't recalled for 2009 as of yet.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the warning lights illuminated for the electronic stability control and the service stability traction control. the cruise control also failed to work. when the brake pedal was depressed, the lights did not illuminate and would remain illuminated when the contact was not applying the brakes. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control), manufacturer recall numbers: 103668 (exterior lighting brake lights) and 103664 (service brakes hydraulic and switches). the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
The door actuators don't lock. the car is open at all times. very unsafe for children and adults.
There have been multiple repairs done on this car because of recalls and potential recall items. i still owe $7,000 on this vehicle! i feel like the manufacturer owes me money as well as the dealership who fixed the recalled items and the items that are not yet in recall that need to be repaired are going to cause a complete accident if this is not handled promptly. i have two small children and organize volunteer work in my area and do not have the money to fix it. i feel like this is entitled to me and i should not have to have a faulty car when i am also paying on it. i can offer more details when you contact me.
Bought my 2009 chevy malibu ltz in april 2015 in may 2015 my service esc service traction control lights started to come on and my taillights are lighting up as if on the breaks when i am not.( they come on while i am stoped at a red light have never come on while moving) returned to the dealership where i got my car and the lights were off so they said they could not do anything until the lights were on(the lights reset when i shut my car off). they came on last night went to chevy dealership last night 7/20/2015 and they told me to replace the break pedal switch and we did that but my break lights are still coming on when they want,it looks like there was a recall for this before i got my car and i don't know if it was fixed or not and if it could be fixed again under the recall...... very unhappy about this.
Door actuators do not work by remote or when vehicle is placed in park. this possess a serious safety risk if in an accident or if the vehicle catches fire. dealer said that they have had many complaints and have also replaced actuators on many different types of gm vehicles. i have already had one replaced under warranty and the other three went out shortly after warranty expired. this potential safety issued needs to be considered aggressively and in a timely manner before fatalities happen because of this problem.
Door locks and windows stopped working in suspect due to some electrical problems. and when i'm on the gas it won't pick up any speed and i think that's due to the cam shaft. and i know im not the only one having the same problems with the same car. it's really becoming a problem

When i am driving the dashboard light would go black and then after a few minutes come back on then abs, brake lights, anti-theft, air pressure, and all the warning lights would flash! then come off and on while car is in motion and i have no signal or brake lights and gas gauge and speedometer goes to zero. if i turn the car off while those lights are on it won't restart. sometimes i cannot get into the car because the remote doesn't work, i would go back out after a few hours and sometimes it would work. i just got this 2009 chevy malibu 5 months ago from a dealer and been having this issue shortly after i bought it!! i am unemployed and my husband lost his job i can't afford the car payment and insurance and having to fix this problem!! i have been reading online thousand of chevy malibu are having this issue!! something needs to be done and not wait until someone gets killed!! updated 09/15/15*lj updated 10/30/2017*cn
Attempted to unlock passenger doors from driver door panel switch when the driver rear door lock failed to open. this occurred intermittently until it completely failed about 3 months later in which time the other doors began having the same issue progressing clockwise around the vehicle. if door lock-unlock is cycled more than twice, 3 (non-driver) doors fail about 95% of the time. this failure occurs both when the door is locked and unlocked. ref: cfr 571.206 s4.3.1
While driving on city street going maybe 35 mph my 3year old who was strapped into his car seat in the backseat began to choke. i immediately pulled over and got out to go to his aid but i couldn't unlock the back door. i panicked and had to try to climb through the small space from the front seat to the back but could not quickly get my choking child out of the car. later that day i checked the door locks after calming down and i am not able to lock or unlock the doors.i noticed clicking noises but never paid any attention to it as it was not a concern until i could not free my chocking child from the back seat.i just purchased the car used last month. after review the locks on this car is a know'n common problem that is a safety concern . my helpless child was locked in. *tr

I was driving home with my children in the car and my electrical power steering locked up and nearly caused an accident. happy that everyone made it home safely, i then tried to find probably causes in to what is the cause and what i can do. i saw nothing but gm recalls for 2008 -2009 chevy malibu's that are having this problem. no one can help but the dealership, so i drove down to the dealership on a saturday, and asked if anyone can take a look at the issue, and the gentleman was short and rude, as if he did not want to help me. i practically had to beg for them to look at my vehicle. so i patiently waited for 3 and a half hours in the lobby. to find out that the power steering module is going bad. that it will cost 480.00. the guy charged me 95.00 just for a diagnostic, and i didn't get a warning that this will be a charge, on top of it he wanted to charge me 800.00 to fix other things on my vehicle, when my main concern was the power steering. i felt taken advantage of, and no one explained to me as to why this took place. i am thinking it must be apart of the recall. so i sent a letter to corporate about this experience. i spoke with an agent and a senior adviser. i cannot wait years later for them to decide that they missed a vehicle. so they did try to give me options to see if they can help with the cost due to the inconvenience i've been through with my children and how i was treated at the terry cullen chevy dealership in georgia. hopefully they can cover half the cost so i can get this fix. i am currently driving dangerously on the road to get to and from work, and i have no other options nor extra money to get this fixed right now. i just do not understand how i can have the same issue in my vehicle and everyone else has a recall on theirs. is this a normal ware and tare issue. *tr
Abrupt power-steering failure. the steering wheel turns and jerks (shutters back and forth) on its own while the car is at rest at a stoplight or stop sign. took to chevy dealer and they advised me there is a recall for this issue but my vin and part# are not included as of now. dealer told me it is due to faulty positioning sensor part # 23232310 sensor ki. *tr
My 2009 malibu lost it's electronic power steering, and i now have to steer it manually, which is hard for me. my car was on a recall list on 4/2014 but i never received any notification and when i called gm they said there was no recall for my car. my cousin, who is a mechanic, got the recall info from the site alldata repair s3000. i would like to know if my car is on the recall and what i need to do. ty *tr
Service esc light comes on &power steering goes out. happens over and over randomly. dealership told me it was a battery issue since the power steering is electrical, however i replaced the battery and the issue persists. after searching the internet i saw a ton of other chevy malibu owners have the exact same issue. *tr
The same day i brought my car to my local chevrolet dealership for an oil change and a brake light malfunction recall, i had the first occurrence of the issue. while on the highway, a chime sounded, and the information display on the dash showed power steering and service esc. the power steering was turned off, and turning the steering wheel became extremely difficult. when i turned the car off and back on, the problem was gone. however, after driving for a few minutes, the same chime sounds, same errors come up, and power steering shuts off. this now happens every time i drive my car. i found out that there was a recall for several gm vehicles, including some 2009 malibus, for an electric power steering (eps) issue. in the recall, the description they give matches my issue perfectly. however, my specific 2009 malibu isn't part of the recall for some reason. *tr
While driving down the highway with my son going at rates of 70mph. my power steering gave out and i was unable to turn wheel. trying to find out what was wrong i found out the power steering torque sensor gave out. i contacted gm and my local dealer about incident because there has been reports of this happening on several of this year and model car. other gm cars have put recall on the power steering, not mine. i contacted dealer because they have me a price of $500-$1200. i contacted gm they refuse to help me at all. this is a safety issue and i feel unsafe driving my own car. i purchased the sensor on my own because the dealer mark up was double of what the part cost. gm refuses to help and i am now renting a car waiting for this to be fixed to sell it. i was with my young child on the highway when it locked up. please help! *tr
Started my car in jan 2015 and power steering service esc alarm comes on this makes second occurrence when i looked up my car it says there was a recall for this problem when i looked up the vin number it says it was repaired so why is it still happening there r several recalls for my 2009 chevy malibu so i want to know if i've owned it since 2010 why i've only received one recall notice for my vehicle. *tr
