Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet malibu. while driving, the steering wheel, accelerator pedal, and brake pedal seized. the failures made it difficult to turn the steering wheel, accelerate, and decelerate. the contact stated that the failure occurred multiple times. the dealer (5 star auto plaza, 3690 w clay st, st charles, mo 63301) stated that there were no open recalls on the vehicle. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 125,526.

Engine power reduced, traction control, service engine light the first time the issue occurred, my car was in park. i started my vehicle, it didnt turn over on the first try, i simply tried again and it started but a service message popped up stating "engine power reduced and my car would not accelerate at all, my traction control light came on as well as service engine soon. i let my car sit for a while and decided to turn my car off and try again, same message, several hours later it started fine, the heck engine light was on and i drove it with no issues, started my car again and the check engine light turned off. about a week later, this happened again, same circumstances. about 2 weeks later, while driving down the road, this happened again and my car slowed down drastically and wouldnt exceed 10 mph. the next time i drove the vehicle my car flashed a warned message simply stating " power steering" with no noticeable signs of loss of power steering, however last year i had to replace a sensor for my power steering that was a recall, when i brought it to a dealership to be fixed they claimed my recall was fixed and they wouldnt cover the cost, after replacing the recall affect sensor i no longer had the issue, i have replaced several parts to try to fix this issue, so the fault is currently unknown. i have researched this issue and seen that many other people have had this issue. gm has done nothing to fix this very dangerous condition.

Check engine warning & t/c control warning. warning lights will randomly illuminate and "engine power reduced" flashes. regardless of current mph traveling, the engine will lunge forward and immediately reduce speed to 10 mph. upon the first time this issue occurred, the vehicle was taken in to be checked. because the lights had gone back off, there was no way to indicate the problem. within the few following days, while in heavy traffic and pouring rain, again without warning, the warning lights illuminated, the vehicle lunged forward and reduced speed to 10 mph, very nearly causing an accident. this issue continued to occur every day for the following week, sometimes 2-3 times daily. the car is now in to be repaired, and almost hit a parked car because it lunged forward suddenly pulling into the dealership. according to the dealership's repair shop, the issue is several things related to the throttle body and associated sensors. as of right now, the beginning repair cost is $550 to replace the throttle body alone. there are 5 related codes and depending as to whether replacing the throttle body fixes the problem will determine if further repairs are needed. the car is definitely not safe to drive. on several of the malibu forums this is an ongoing complaint with this model. several recalls have been issued on this exact problem of model years before and after the 2006 model, and the 2006 should be addressed and recalled as well. this absolutely poses a safety risk to all in the vehicle and possibly others around it on the road.

No physical incidents have taken place as of yet, however when asking about part being replace for my two recalls i get nothing but attitude and "i don't know" answers. my recalls are on the transmission shift cable, body control module, brake apply sensor and electronic stability control. i still make car payments, single mother with a toddler in the vehicle and all i get is an " i don't know" when our safety is in question. if i could afford a rental i would get one and keep the car parked, however a rental is like another car payment....where do i go from here? *tr

I was driving my vehicle on the freeway in lunch hour traffic. as i exited the freeway to change to a connecting freeway, the engine shut off half way along the exchange ramp. at that point i noticed that i had poor breakage and no power steering. lucky, i was able to coast over and stop in the emergency lane mid ramp, put the car in park, restart the vehicle, and drive off without indecent. it was unsettling to say the least. *tr

I was driving at about 55 mph and my car stalled and the loss power came on. i was able to restart and took my car to a local car repair business. they put in a 3 part fuel system kit/acd12568796 throttle body assembly ele and the bill came to $654.92. the mileage at that time was 153101. i purchased my car from an individual. when i purchased the car april 2013 i knew the gas gauge didn't work but i thought that's ok i'll just keep the tank filled up at all time. but i've been having trouble when it is in idle position. it acts like it is going to stop on me. i've asked the car repair business and they told me it was the fuel pump and i would have to have it replaced which would cost me $700.00. also i had the calipers replaced at on 10/5/12 with a mileage of 147005 which cost me $531.92. it's always something. *tr

While driving vehicle i was being followed by my daughter who thought i was riding my brakes. it turns out that the brake lights are going off when the brakes are applied and coming on when brakes are released. this also affects the cruise control as it will not work when the brake lights come on. this is a very dangerous issue. people driving behind me don't know if i'm stopping or not! there are countless numbers of people with this same problem and the dealerships don't have the answer to fix it. this should be a recall if there ever was one! *tr

While driving at night, another driver stopped to let me know that my brake lights were not working. around this time i also noticed that my cruise control would stop working or not work at all. on several occasions after i first learned of the problem people following me would tell me that it looked like i was riding my brakes when i was not touching the brake pedal. when i would press the brakes they would go off. i tested this by backing up to my garage door and pressing the brakes. they come on when i lift my foot off the brake but go out when i press the pedal. around this time i also noticed that the gear shifter would sometimes stick/not move even though i had my foot on the brake pedal. my local dealer replaced a computer module and that seemed to correct the problem for a while but the problem has since come back. *tr

I just found out last night that my 2006 chevy malibu ltz brake lights illuminate without pressing the brake pedal and when i do press the pedal it goes out. this would cause anyone following my vehicle not to see that i am braking and could cause a crash. also my cruise control and my cigarette lighter went out. i am not sure if they are all connected somehow but the brakes are definitely a concern. i will say that my car does have a salvaged title but i don't know if that would cause the safety issue. i have owned the car for 4 months and they have worked until now. i have an appointment to get it fixed and am not driving it till than. *tr

Bought car new 2/06. once home and driving i noticed an electrical issues consisting of radio interference when using any electrical buttons in car, such as windows, and my charging outlets in the car blow fuses when used. when i turn my air or heat on my brake pedal drops down at least 2 if sitting at light. if driving and i turn on my air, the car lunges forward. this is at a critical level now. i took into their dealership from the first month i purchased the car until march of 2007. no one could fix the electrical issue and dealership could not supply me with even the paperwork to show me what they researched while it sat there for over 4 days. problem is now deadly and i need this electrical issue fixed. i received notice of recall 13036 but nothing concerning the problem with the brake petal and acceleration i have had since purchase. contacted dealership to get (lemon) replaced and they said, tough luck. purchased as is... *tr
