Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Car runs fine then without warning it will just die. does this while driving in motion. it is car used by two new teen drivers. it is very unsafe because they don't have a lot of driving time. i looked at a lot of wiring connections, cleaned up all ground connections with wire brush, replaced temp sensor, crank position sensor, been going thru and fixing bad wiring connections. replaced fuel pump. and fixed broken wires coming out of body that go to fuel gauge.

Was driving on city street approaching an intersection when the vehicle loss power, steering, and abs brakes

Ok steering in this car was good seen that it had a recall before for that. also when i called chevy they told me .but that's my most concern as seeing as much i have put into this car. it's weird i looked on your site before and had recalls now it don't. i just want to see how to get it fixed with braking my pockets.

Steering: electric power assist system steering electronic stability control vehicle speed control: cruise control exterior lighting: brake lights electrical system: wiring service brakes, hydraulic: switches: brake light steering: electric power assist system power train: automatic transmission: lever and linkage: floor shift power train: automatic transmission

Speedometer stops working while driving, security light comes on, engine ignition stops working and car doesn't turn over or start. this happens when in motion and not in motion.

I was driving in detroit mi i was at the light when my my car lights start blinking off and on and my air bag popped out

yesterday, when trying to park, i heard a chime and the message "power steering" popped up on the info screen. the car became incredibly hard to steer, so i'm thinking the power steering had shut off. i turned my car off, then back on, and the power steering came back on, so i was able to park the car correctly. when we were about to head home, as soon as i turn on a busy street, just before getting on the highway, the chime goes off, the message pops up, and my power steering shuts off again. i turned (with all my might) into an empty parking lot and turned the car off for a little bit. my family and i were looking under the hood, but we weren't sure what to check for. we eventually got back in the car and went home. thankfully, the power steering stayed on and we got home safely (17 miles on the highway). i'm just worried that it will eventually turn off on its own again. if i have to schedule a service appointment, i would like to go in prepared this time. a few months ago, when i had a brake light issue, one particular service department tried charging me $500+ for a part. the steering wheel shimmied on it's own only above 50 mph, i tried it out and i'll tell you, it's a two handed fight to keep the car under control.

Cannot turn the steering wheel in any direction. almost as if its locked in place. at first it just seemed like the power steering was going out, but the next morning when i went to leave for work it was gone all together

My 2006 chevy has been having some sort of electrical issue. the power lock door will not unlock by pressing the button and instead will on their own lock and unlock themselves without the buttons or car running for some instances of 1 minute up to 5 minutes. we have had to pry a window open to get inside the vehicle to turn the vehicle off. however sometimes you are unable to get the doors to unlock without turning the keys in the manual car lock located on the driver's side door. the lock pulse when sitting still or driving the car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet malibu. while the vehicle was stationary and while driving various speeds, it stalled without warning on several occasions. on each occasion, the contact immediately activated the hazard lights and coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. the contact stated that the anti-lock brake warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled and would not restart after several attempts. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. an independent mechanic replaced the alternator, ignition switch, starter, fuel tank, and the battery; however, the failures recurred. vandergriff chevrolet (1200 west interstate 20, arlington, texas 76017, (682) 323-2486) was made aware of the failures. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet malibu. on several occasions ,the vehicle would not start due to a faulty security system. during the failure the "security lock" message illuminated. the vehicle was towed to dick smith chevrolet (1601 us -52, moncks corner, sc) who unlocked the security. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

My car shuts off while driving. the low rpms will fluctuate and the power will turn off.

When accelerating around 2500-3500 rpm you will hear a chiming sound in the car all informational dash lights (brakes, check engine, low tire pressure.) will show up along with a power steering issue in the dic (driver information center.) with possible loss of power steering afterwards. the same issue on previous year and some 2006 models have a recall regarding this exact issue, but not all 2006 models thus causing a serious safety concern for those that are effected by the power steering issue, but not under the recall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 25 mph, the battery warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the bcm was controlling the charging of the alternator, which damaged the bearings and alternator. the bearings and alternator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. after the replacement of the alternator, the power steering, headlights, and all the instrument panel warning indicators intermittently illuminated. also, when the contact exited the vehicle, the doors independently locked while the engine was running. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v224000 (power train), 14v153000 (steering), and 14v252000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electrical system, exterior lighting, vehicle speed control, electronic stability control). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 199,000.

I was told that there was a power steering issue with many 2006 chevrolet malibu's and mine was not one of them. i have had issues with my power steering for the past 5 years and every year it goes out between the winter months of january-march. and every year i am told that my car is not one of the recalled vehicles. i have had lighting issues, electrical issues, and power steering issues back to back. this is a hazard because they all seem to malfunction all at the same time and/or while i'm driving or parked. i have children but i'm scared to have them in my car. please help me, i know that this is apart of the recall this car is a safety hazard. i will attach a photo but i also have video.

Periodically power steering light comes on while driving and power steering quits working. this would occur on medium to highway speeds. dealer stated sl-n-sensor needed replaced. replacement kit was 06552-pc. *tr

Takata recall/ i have a 2006 chevy malibu and in the past month every time i change the turn signals and brake light bulbs they are always blowing for no reason. and my car is starting to get a loud sound when i drive it and steering is getting hard sometime. i've looked for power steering to check fluid but everyone says mine is electric so i took it to auto zone and they said it was electric and i needed to fix the torque sensor assembly in my steering. i pretty sure there is a recall on that part. and also i think there a recall on a part on my transmutation. i'm trying to find out about recalls on my car. can someone help me cause i've got my kids and grandkids that ride in it every day. please help me.

While driving the traction control light comes on and the engine turns off completely. when brought in to be looked at the system said that there was never a problem in the first place. we cant use heater or a/c without the car dying 100% of the time.

The sometimes will not start. it's like it's not reading the key. i had the car for a month and bought 6 keys and that did not fix the problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet malibu. while driving at 30 mph, the speedometer gauge on the instrument panel failed to indicate the actual speed of the vehicle. the check engine warning light illuminated constantly. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

I bought this vehicle used from paul conte chevrolet in freeport, ny and it had 3 recalls that were not fixed before selling it to me. now my power steering system malfunctioned to the point where the steering wheel would twitch uncontrollably and then become stiff, making it very difficult and dangerous to steer. i ended up paying for the repairs to the tune of almost $1700.00 to replace the steering column and steering motor. after doing some research, i found that gm recalled many vehicles of the same year, make, and model as my car but for my specific vin only the steering torque sensor was recalled. i did get the steering torque sensor recall fixed but my steering was still messed up. this recall did not fix my very serious and potentially dangerous issue. it was only after i authorized the steering column and motor repairs that the issue was resolved. gm customer service is saying that even though i had the same exact issue as the gm recall for other malibu's, because my specific vin did not fall under the recall, i will not be getting reimbursed. it is not right that gm be able to get away with this. this serious steering issue could have caused me to crash. i would like to file a complaint against gm for failure to recall all vehicles that were affected by this power steering issue and also request that they reimburse me for fixing an issue that should have been taken care of before i even bought the car. the link below will take you to the official gm statement on this power steering issue. http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/vehicles.detail.html/content/pages/news/us/en/2014/mar/0331-power-steering.html

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet malibu. while driving 10 mph around a curve, the brakes did not respond and the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. the traction control light became illuminated and the vehicle accelerated and crashed into a ditch. the air bags did not deploy. the contact sustained an injury to the right arm that did not require medical attention. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 161,000.

In sept 2014, i had my 2006 malibu repaired under gm recall 13036. at the end of june 2015, i noticed that my brake lights were malfunctioning. i took my car to a local mechanic for repair, which was the same work that was done for the recall. at the end of july 2015, the malfunction return again. i contacted chevy via email and phone, and was first told that there wasn't a recall for this problem. i called again and explain that i was having the problem described in recall 13036 (" these fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed"). i was then told that there was a recall, but that mine was "closed" since i had already had it done once. i am concerned that i will be rear-ended because of the malfunctioning brake lights, which is a problem that chevy/gm is aware of, having already issued a recall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving at unknown speeds, the steering wheel became extremely difficult to maneuver as the power steering warning light illuminated. the contact mentioned that the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 15v064000 (steering). however, the failure recurred immediately after leaving the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 113,000. updated 08/17/16*lj the consumer stated all the lights on the dashboard flashed and bells went off, while losing power steering. upon accelerating. updated 10/25/16.*jb

Fuel pump problem, emissions vapor leak, gas cap, ignition switch, and gas tank sensor problem. my car is a 2006 chevy malibu v6. my car has all of these problems with it and i have seen many others with the same problems for this car . i believe there should be something done about it . it is showing up those codes. it also has electrical problems with the power mirrors and windows and trunk . stationary

Went to go get something to eat waiting in drive thru and all of a sudden gas gauge went from full to empty and the light came on and the display said low fuel and hte check engine light came on. me and my husband looked at each other i told him its full. so we got our food and went next door to the gas station went to put gas in and it would take any because it was full. so then all of a sudden the gas gauge said full. it did this off and on for a while then it started not wanting to start it would take 3-5 tries to finally get it started. then had the check engine light check it said it needed the fuel pump and relay i think that is what it said. so finally we found some one that would replace it we had to replace both the fuel pump and the relay that lets you know when the fuel is at in your gas tank. *tr

If you think gm had a big problem with the ignition switches here is a bigger one. i have owned gm since 1972 and have always found that the delco batteries are the best. you could go 8 to 8 1/2 years before you needed to replace the battery because an internal plate would separate from the bank of plates. but something changed in the 1990s.i have had two delco batteries do this and i read about a man in florida that died in his car because it happened to him. your get in your vehicle, start the engine, put the car in gear, the door locks activate, and the engine quits. you put the car back in park, and try starting the vehicle again, nothing !! all electrical circuits are dead. the positive battery cable and post have seperated from the battery. to get out of the car you have to trip the manual door locks. if someone holds the post back into the battery you will have power but as soon as they let go, all electrical circuits die. think of it this way. you are heading home after a holiday, on an expressway in the country, doing 70 mph, in the dark. bumper to bumper. the positive battery post breaks loose. you now have no head lights, no horn, no turn signals, no brake lights, no body lights,no power steering, no power brakes, all electrical circuits have died. you are the captain of a ghost ship and that driver that you know was behind you will only have a second to react when his headlights pick you up. gm needs to investigate and correct.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet malibu. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact mentioned that the traction control and engine shutting down warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the ignition switch was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 107,000.

While driving my car days after i purchased it , suddenly the instrument panel lights started flashing on and off. this includes gas gauge, oil light, check engine soon , abs, speedometer , dome light, radio,... also showed on instrument panel an image of a car and a lock. etc.. it flashed on and off for a while then completely went out. so i was unable to determine speed, how much gas was in the tank no inside light or radio.. the weather was below zero with a wind chill factor and i assumed it had something to do with that. after a few days everything came back except radio. an additional couple of days and radio came back . the car went in for inspection with in 10 days of purchase . nothing was said, about electrical or instrument panel. now on or about june 10th the same thing is happening more continuous flashing and electrical going out. it flashes when you start the car and continuously flashes while you drive sometimes just going blank for a while.. thank you.

I recently sent my car over to global auto mall in north plainfield, nj. it was there for a week without anyone calling me informing me if the car was finished when they were supposed to fix the recall. i came from the car mechanic today because my car was not working properly and the same items that were supposed to be fixed were not fixed and now i have to spend more money trying to fix it.i would like to be reimbursed for the work that i have done for my car immediately. i don't have money to keep fixing this car and i am willing to go to the media and other legal options that i have. i have kids and a wife to support and this recall did not help the situation. *tr

In the middle of driving the anti-theft system activates. the light for it comes on, my locks, and i cannot accelerate. this happened a few times over the course of a month and is now very frequent. i loose the ability to accelerate. this is very dangerous. it happens while on the interstate or when going slower. once i also lost power steering. i have taken it to the dealership just to be told no codes were noted. from speaking to other malibu owners this is all to frequent of an issue. *tr

On multiple occasions my 2006 chevy malibu has left me stranded. i ended up having it towed to my house where it has set for several months. i have asked different ones to look at it and try to start it. the security light comes on. i have gone to the expense of having the fuel pump replaced, ended up buying a new battery and am now told that the problem is the security system. i have seen this same problem listed on numerous sites on the internet. why hasn't this problem been addressed? i'm still paying for a vehicle that doesn't run if it ever starts. i have 3 more recalls on this car and can't even take it in to get it taken care of. *tr

I contacted chevrolet recall about my ignition switch. i could just put my key in the switch and it would just turn on without me even turning the switch and it would keep turning off and on. now my key is stuck in the switch and i can't turn my car off. i took it to my dealership and they so-called fixed it before but now it is messed up again and they want to charge me to fix it again. *tr

I parked my car and locked the doors up for the night, just like every other night, but the next morning when i tried to start my car the battery was dead. i knew i had not left anything on to run it down. after getting the battery charged and my car started i headed off to work about 5 minutes into my drive my door locks started going crazy unlocking them selves and making a clicking noise this continued for about 10 minutes when i got to work i locked the car up and went to work got off work to find out the battery again was dead. and this time my doors were unlocked. i had this problem on and off for the next week until i had to buy a new battery. the new battery seemed to fix the issue so i thought. but once again it started unlocking its self repeatedly, i have gotten use to it acting up and pretty much over look it when it does it, but it still happens a few times a week. *tr

2006 chevrolet malibu. consumer writes in regards to recall notices. *tgw the consumer stated two days after the first recall repair, because the repair was not fully completed, due to lack of parts, she experienced two episodes which she deemed unsafe. while sitting with her foot on the brake, and the vehicle in drive, she suddenly felt a slight shift, as if the vehicle was trying to move forward, which it did, without any warning. the vehicle bumped a car in front of her. the consumer referenced recall # 14v252000. *jb

I do not recall exact accident date as i received nothing from insurance. car was placed in park and turned off. car had been parked and sitting for 30 minutes. car came out of park and rolled into another parked car causing damage to that vehicle and to my vehicle.i do not think it went into park to start with. my insurance covered repair of the other vehicle and i repaired my own vehicle. my insurance told me that they would contact chevrolet concerning accident. later i noticed my insurance had listed this as a moving violation and raised my insurance. i have contacted my insurance concerning this as this was not a moving violation. i was not driving nor was i in the car and this seemed to involved a recall. i will report my insurance to the state insurance commission to look into this matter has i should not be punished for this problem. i had an excellent driving records for the past 30 years. i had taken car to dealer concerning recalls but was told parts not available. i took car on one occasion and part was ordered for recall. i took car back and was told my part given to some one else. i finally received final repair on 04/08/2015. i made several trips to have car looked at and parts to be ordered then had to take it back for repairs. i also had lose of steering at times for brief periods. i became fearful of driving this car after so many problems and was nervous and anxious when in the car. too many recalls on this vehicle after i had it for a long time. some one could have been hurt. why so longer to notify me of so many recalls and why so long for repairs. if recall is done, parts should be available at dealer. i should not have to take it to be looked at, then wait for a part, then have to take it back it. i will consider legal action. *tr
