Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and the key would not eject from the ignition. the dealer repaired the vehicle according to a recall for the ignition switch, but the failure recurred. the contact also stated that the brake lights failed to illuminate and the air conditioner did not function. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the nhtsa campaign number was unknown. the failure mileage was 33,345.

I have a 2003 chevrolet malibu that i purchased new on 12/27/02. the ignition switch had to be replaced on 7/23/2014 at 70,328 miles for $307.13. i would like gm to at least pay this amount. there is a gm 14350 recall on this car. in talking to gm they would only consider paying for this, if the problem was caused by rotation of the ignition key i am a man 71 years old and have owned many cars, most purchased new. i keep most cars 10 years and over 100,000 miles. i have never replaced and ignition switch until now. this problem took about 3 months to diagnose. the initial problem developed when the cruise control turned off while in use. it was very intermittent and not predictable. then the check engine lite came on. the codes indicate a problem with the oil pressure sending unit and the cruise control. the next time the check engine light came, there were no codes. the next set of problems was the power window, ventilation (ac and fan), and radio would not work. the main indicator of this problem was the fuel and temperature gauges would not work. i would get various warning lights after starting the engine including abs, battery and others. the problems got worse as the temperature got hotter. half way between milwaukee and appleton, 100 miles into a 200mile trip, we stopped at a rest stop. upon returning to the car, i couldn?t get the fan or windows to work or eliminate the battery warning light. fortunately, the back windows were open and inch when we left the rest stop. about 10 minutes after leaving the rest stop, everything came on. the car became unusable because of these problems. taking it to and independent shop the owner was very patient as day after day, nothing would fail. finally on a hot sunny day with the car in the sun, i was able to get the car to fail. replacing the ignition switch fixed all these problems. *tr

I have a 2003 chevrolet malibu and the theft system light comes on all the time. then i was coming out of work from working a long night shift and went to turn my car on but it would not turn on. i have read up on the theft system light and according to a lot of people this problem is quite frequent and nothing is being done about it. i am a single mother of 3 kids and i need my vehicle to work. i read that it will happen a lot and the gm people know of this and they don't do anything because they say there's not enough complaints. i want this problem fixed but i don't have the extra money to do it so it would be helpful if this problem was recalled so my car can be fixed from this annoying issue. i am afraid that if i get it to start i'm going to end up somewhere stranded with my kids. please i hope something is done about this issue because i have read it happens to a lot of people who own chevy malibus from the year 1997-2005. i hope this helps to get this problem resolved for me and everyone else who owns this vehicle. *tr

Chevy malibu 03 has issue with anti theft system. many many complains online concerning this. you get into the car; car will not start, you have to turn key to on position and leave it there; then turn car off and then start it the car. this has happened two times in the last 2 weeks. i am hoping this doesn't happen while my wife is driving. a recall should be made on this defect in all chevy malibu's 2003 before a horrendous traffic accident occurs from this defect. *tr

I had trouble with the car starting/stopping in traffic. replaced the key switch which solved the problem. also have had trouble with the heating/air-conditioning fan system. the system will lose the ability to run except on setting 4 or 5. also the switch that puts the system on recycled air has stopped working. this is the second time in 5 years that this has happened. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet malibu. the contact was driving at various speeds with the air conditioner on; however the air conditioner would only function when the air conditioner and the recirculation control devices were manually hand held. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated the failure could possibly be contributed to the electronic control module or faulty wiring. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 12,165.

I have had several issues with my car over the years. the first was when the fuel pump failed and my car stalled in traffic in 2006 and repair was $600. the intake manifold gaskets failed about 10 months later that was repaired at the dealer for $1200. i have replaced the engine twice ($600 each time) because of the head gaskets and too much oil inside the engine. now i have a strong odor of gasoline inside my car when i start it up that lasts for about 15-20 minutes each day. i've replaced the ignition switch twice now and the gear shift does not lock properly. now anti theft security light comes on often and i have to wait approximately 11 minutes to reset it before i can leave my location. the hood latch recently broke and now the wire must be replaced from the inside to the exterior of the car. *js

Car fails to start cranks and no starts took it to dealer and promise nothing spend almost 1000.00 dollars and it did it again today

At some point, i triggered my alarm system by not using the remote key and manually unlocked my car door. right after, i tried to restart my car, at which time it cranked, but did not start. since this incident of triggering my alarm, i have been daily reminded of this.. with the crank, no start. i have taken the car to the dealer who informed me that i need a pcm (power control module) which they replaced but to no avail. two days later, the car was crank/no start again and again. *jb

I have put 3 sets of brake pads and rotors on my malibu. i had the right front hub assembly changed twice. my cars brakes throw off alot of brake dust and must be pushed way down before stopping.*ak

Car has stalled numorus times in traffic. at city speeds and highway speeds, even in the fast lane at rush hour.have you ever seen a semi that is tailgating try to stop at sixty-five in your rearview mirror because your engine just stalled? i fear for my life every time the dealer calls and say's come pick it up i think we got it fixed? how can they send me out with a vehicle that they dont even know if its fixed? when they can't even find out what is causing it to happen? it's been in the shop eight times for stalling. they replace a part and send me out on the road like a test rat hoping the brand new car i bought keeps running so i don't die or worse cause someone else to. they have checked the wiring, computers, engine, even duplicated the problem.how do i ever feel like i can drive this car safley. i have no choice because the big car company dont care for me. it's sales they care about. it's been at the dealership for six days now, no problem i'll send my payment in even though it's been in the shop for about thirty days the last four months.

I have had to replace not only the brake pads but the rotors as well, every 20,000 miles dealer tells me it's the way i drive. it just so happens that i drive for a living and i'm sorry it's the product! *la
