There was a recall for the ignition on the hhr, i had the ignition changed but on the way home the locks unlocked and locked several times, then the cruse kicked off, the radio stopped working, the lights on the instrument cluster went off and on, and the motor stopped. i have contacted gm several times but they say the ignition change had nothing to do with it. this has happened several times since and also had to remove the fuse for the radio, because it would run the battery down. this has happened several times when we have driven it over the last couple of years. i former mechanic that worked for a gm dealer said that there is a electrical unit that the ignition controlled and that with the problem with the ignition caused the problem with the electrical unit. we do not drive the vehicle much because it doesn't feel safe driving it, nor would we sell it, because of the problems.

I contacted strosnider chevrolet (a dealer in hopewell, va) about the recent recall on my car and asked about a loaner. first they wanted to know where i got my information and then they told me that they have never heard of cars cutting off and that i did not need to worry. my car has lost power 4 times in the last 8 months and even though it did not cut off,it did not have power and was coasting for about a minute before it picked up power again and i don't feel safe in it anymore. this dealer acted like this recall is a joke and they do not want to have to deal with it. i will definitely not go to them for anything again even though i purchased my car from them back in 2006. i don't appreciate them making lite of my situation and if my car does cut off on the interstate and i am run over by the vehicle behind me, me or my family will be suing someone for this incident. *tr
This car has already been serviced due to recall on ignition. i specified to the service rep (when i dropped it for the recall service) of what we had experienced before we parked it: the first time while driving approximately 25 mph the theft deterrent alarm lit up, power started to fail, all gauges moved erratically up and down, dashboard display then flashed *****f, then flashed "power steering", and the engine light came on. we got off the road, found a 2 amp fuse to the ignition switch/pass-key blown, replaced #8 fuse from spare.that was the first time. we experienced the problem several more times but no blown fuses. after recall service was completed they made no note of any other electrical problems being found or serviced the problem has resurfaced, and nearly stranded us. no blown fuses in the engine compartment or under dash. . on 8/16/2014 the car decided to shut down at 55mph. luckily the power steering never went out totally, and the car behind us avoided our sudden slow down. a certified mechanic (not local chevy dealership where purchased and serviced fro 100,000 m) have suggested that i file this complaint. *tr

My car started giving me a charging system warning light. i had it checked, with no findings. the car stopped on me several times, yet always check out okay. the last time the battery was shorted, so i replaced it. the next day the car stopped while i was driving it. i had it towed to a shop, where it started up fine and didn't show anything on diagnostic. when i went to pick it up it started and then shorted out the computer. the computer was replaced, it started up, then started smoking and shorted out the new computer. i want to note that approximately two years ago, the power steering went out and shorted out the charging system, twice. it was repaired at chevrolet in bakersfield. *tr

Fuel leak in front of drivers side rear wheel. this is completely unacceptable in an 8 year old vehicle. the fuel line corroded and leaked heavily, cost me $254.22 to replace this faulty gas line. i am obviously not the only person this has happened to. i have also had all the other typical problems such as the key will not release from ignition, bad rotors, loose front end bushings and excessive front end vibration over typical street cracks. broken drivers side interior door handle, cracked windshield...... *tr updated 10/22/2014 *js
This began with the power steering warning light coming on just as the power steering cut out . after shutting off the engine and restarting all was normal for about two minutes then the same thing happened . after looking on-line i saw that there are many complaints on this same issue and also that chevrolet did issue a recall for this vehicle in canada but not in the usa , i also saw that there was a recall on another chevy model that uses the same power steering motor (which is the problem) . once the motor fails it is extremely hard to control the car and on a highway this could cause a serious situation . in my case i had a dealer fix the car and they had to replace the main computer along with the power steering motor costing me over nine hundred dollars ! i am submitting this complaint for my grandson who currently owns the hhr , i was the original owner . *tr
